"If you have questions for me specifically today, give me a shout on the forum (in a single thread, please)."

To keep the oncoming bombardment to one place, we can make it here....

So, Eurydice!

First question: Are you, in fact, trapped in the underworld because some twit couldn't keep his eyes forward?

Poor Basil.

Hey guys, thanks for the welcome. Here are some answers.

Q: First question: Are you, in fact, trapped in the underworld because some twit couldn't keep his eyes forward?

A: Yes, but I have internet access, and that's all anyone needs, right? Sunlight is so mainstream.

Q: Do you think that the snipes are the most gosh-darned adorable things you ever did see?

A: I want to squeeze them.

Q: Do you think Basil will ever try to throw all those vials back at us?

A: Basil is a paragon of forgiveness. You should fear the day he snaps.

Q: Just posting to say welcome to the community, and thanks in advance for helping us out. (and also wading through the BS.) :p

A: Thanks! I have been tempered in raw sewage by the internet and am at this point largely immune.

Q: Would you kiss Boswick?

A: I wouldn't dream of violating Boswick's personal boundaries!

Q: I have a real question I guess. When you aren't working, are you playing Spiral Knights? :P

A: I admit it: I take time out to eat and sleep and attend to personal hygiene. (So yes, I do play Spiral Knights, and will continue to do so!)

Regarding cryptic tweets

By the way, regarding the comments about tweets--I think we will have a mixture of the playful and the informational there. The goal is to have a professional, official feed without becoming robotic or dry.

Hmm. So, if you're going to be around the forums...

Any chance I can convince you to put up a "Frequently Suggested" sticky in the suggestions forum (probably a locked thread), with quick replies to the regularly-repeating stuff?

By replies, I mean like:
"This is working as intended",
"While minor tweaks may be made here, large overhauls won't",
"This is something we're developing towards, and have a plan on",
and
"This is something being chewed on; suggestions on this topic would be especially welcome.",
that kind of thing.

Dev blog request duly noted.

Dev blog request duly noted. There has been some talk of this before, and we'd like to consider it after our dust settles.

With regard to replies to feature suggestions: tricky issue, there. We certainly don't want to present you with a wall of silence. Yet similarly, we don't want to jerk players' expectations around. Things change constantly during development--priorities, schedules, feature mechanics, plans, even the idea that something is "working as intended" can change over time.

I'll actively seek out information for you. The compromise is that I won't say anything that could be seen to commit the devs to specific features, fixes, or timeframes without their signoff. If the devs themselves wish to comment and commit to things as they come up, they'll do that.

A repository of SK team comments could be set up on the Spiral Knights wiki similar to Puzzle Pirates' http://yppedia.puzzlepirates.com/The_List and http://yppedia.puzzlepirates.com/The_Anti-list and http://yppedia.puzzlepirates.com/Category:Commonly_Discussed_Ideas. This would of course be with the disclaimer that just because something is included, doesn't mean it's written in stone.

Does that seem fair?

The list and anti-list setups

The list and anti-list setups from YPP would, I think, work well and make a *lot* of people happy. Absolutely including me, yep.

It'd also slay a lot of "Oh god another ________ thread." Which I can only think would be useful in terms of your level-of-overwhelmed when browsing suggestions.

Baptism of fire aside, i know its not your fault though, but...people need someone to scream enough exemplatives that the filter would be having a field day. So...yeah, question.

Do you have a favourate armor set in the game? Also, why do you like that set?

Regarding armor, well, huh. My favorite changes around. For a while it was the jelly armor sets, because I could make "U JELLY?" jokes. It's based upon what makes me laugh.

The Angelic line is the best.

The Angelic line is the best. Stylish dress and cute ponytail with a side of looking like Saber from Fate/Stay Night.

But anyway, I'm curious: how does the Three Rings staff deal with community opinion? I'm not very happy with the changes to crafting, and from the looks of it most people aren't. Will the players get an indication if anything is changing? I think the shock value of the update is what made people start frothing at the mouth. Nobody saw /that/ coming.

They use a LOIC and burn the heathens off the face of the Earth.

how does the Three Rings staff deal with community opinion?

They usually take opinions, have a meeting then choose where to go from there.
Sort of example.

Just because there is a massive community outcry for something to change doesn't mean it will (though it has in the past), there may be an addendum to this update in another update that adds certain functions that aren't here now.
It usually takes a legitimate reason for something to change, a reasonable, logical one.
Like the one presented in that thread.

For the most part, player communication isn't the job of developers or Game Masters, but a community representative. Somebody who is the face on the dartboard of all players.
I use Boswick right now, but I'm sure there is a much uglier face to poke holes in with sharp needles.

But they do read posts, they take the time to discuss the concerns of players and they will sometimes change things to reflect this.

I don't recall Three Rings

I don't recall Three Rings dealing with a hit THIS bad. On YPP, some updates made the vocal community froth at the mouth but they were a severe minority and for the most part, everything worked itself out. Bang! Howdy is limping atm, I don't really know anything about that other than people weren't too much of a fan of the playstyle. (I was though!). No clue about Whirled either. But yeah, this update takes the cake.

My question! Cake, or pie? And what kind?

@Satonakaja To determine

@Satonakaja To determine player reaction and the effect of updates on the game, you look at player feedback in the venues such as the forums, and you look at player behavior in the game, both of them over time. Sometimes player feedback and player behavior contradict each other, and sometimes not, so it's essential to keep an eye on both.

You're quite correct about the shock value. Updates of this nature produce what we could call "emphatic initial responses." When possible, we want to tell the community what's coming down the road. Sometimes that simply won't be possible, though. An example of that would be when advance info would cause droves of people to exploit a mechanic that, once the release came, would allow them to accrue economy-wrecking amounts of energy/crowns/resources. (And people DO do this, sadly.)

Dear Eurydice, Warm welcome

Dear Eurydice,

Warm welcome to the team.

IMO you suck at your job. As a community manager all you do is make matters worse for players in concern. If your intent is to make the community hate you from the very start, you're not far from your goal.

I can see that you're trying to group things together, however you dont seem to have the capacity to process and categorize stuffs properly. (sorry to be rude, but in which part does "Voicing your dissatisfaction regarding to the crafting changes" resemble any part of the "feedback on our new awesome AH feature" thread? well that was what the titles basically say when you locked the threads at least).

Anyways hope you make a great addition to this soon-to-be-history game.

Well, that was a bit uncalled for. If you really want to bash the community manager for trying to do their job after a fanbase-shattering update then perhaps it would be better for you to shut up and calm down. Do you think yelling at the admins like that is going to get anything changed?

The community has already fiercely provided an opinion: we can't expect a reaction immediately.
