...the heat and alchemy changes.

I'm in the process of leveling up my 4* armor to get it to the point where I can upgrade it to 5*. I've been farming the jelly palace quite a bit, and even dropped some CE on a heat amplifier because of how dreadfully slow it is to level up items.

So, I logged on after the update, grabbed my sprite, and went back to it.

Then I found out I can't level it up without some crystals I have none of and have to pay a ridiculous amount of CE for. I'm not going to pay the equivalent of 20kcr just to get my armor ready to be transmuted to 5* which will cost the equivalent of 60kcr just in energy. Suddenly, the gear I prided myself on never paying real money for (outside of elevator passes) cannot be improved unless I spend an amount of CE that basically demands I pay money for it.

All of a sudden, the elevator pass seems like a bargain.

Now I see why a lot of people were whining and threatening to quit (as if anyone cares). Once I saw there was essentially a lock on my gear level, I immediately stopped wanting to play. It's too much grinding, too much work, and broke something that didn't need to be fixed.

I know they're drops, but I'm still rank 6-1 and I don't really like the missions at all. Now my choices are (A) do the missions, (B) buy CE, or (C) stop playing.

I'm torn between A and C. I like this game, but the game is now forcing me to do the part I don't like. That's work. I don't play games to do something I dislike. How about a tradeoff? I'll keep buying monthly elevator passes, you take off that stupid crystal BS. Sounds like a good option to me.

Edit: Please keep discussion and feedback about the release announcement in the discussion thread. Thank you!

fire crystals?

Are you talking about fire crystals? How many do you need? I found at least 9 of them (maybe 12) in a single run of Nature of the Beast on Elite difficulty.

Oops, I missed the part where you don't like missions at all. Are you aware that most missions are just rehashing of Clockworks levels? A few are different, and hence interesting. I don't understand how a player can dislike them but still like playing Spiral Knights. Maybe you can explain.

"I know they're drops, but I'm still rank 6-1"

What's the problem with that anyways? drops drop anywhere regardless of rank. If you have 4* armor you can do elite T3 arcades.

@Juances

Rank 6-1 is knight elite rank, which means you actually can't do T3 unless a friend invites you down past Emberlight.

But... if you have full 4* gear, shouldn't you just do the 4* HoH to get T3 clearance and do the T3 arcade? I don't like the missions either, but they've been mandatory since they were implemented.

Is it strange that i came

Is it strange that i came here assuming that this thread about picking your own loot? How can the fire/alchemy thing bother people... I actually like how they force people to grind appropriate tiers instead of just jelly palace.

Funnily enough...

I liked this update more then I thought I would: the revive system, which I thought was completely stupid, ends up working ok with the emergency revives and how frequently sparks of life drop. same for alchemy orbs; in one FSC, I managed to get enough eternal alchemy orbs to make 1 and a half 5* items. Battle sprites arent as useless as I thought (they are still REALLY useless in T3 thou) and a fun distraction, that I manage to make an easy 30k cr selling power and divine motes with all my spare luminite and crimsonite didnt hurt things either.

The one thing I did absolutely dreaded is the heat system; now that's a kind of horrible grind I thought I wouldnt see in this game. It makes me glad I managed to heat every weapon/armor/shield I wanted before the update, I can only feel terrible pity to anyone that has to heat multiple things at once.

When you guys will encounter

When you guys will encounter the fact of upgrading a lvl of your 5* equipment with those enormous amount of Fire Crystals and a big chance of throwing them all out in case of unlucky forge, or in case of paying x4 times of them for 100% chance of succesfull forge you will understand the biggest disadvantafe of this update.
Before this update you needed to spent 700 CE for craft 5* gear only ONCE.
Now, for succesfull lvl up of your gear to max 10 lvl you need to do this 10 TIMES! Exellent!)
Good luck with lvl up!

and people wondered why I heated and crafted everything into 5*'s before the update.

In fact, I did lots of crafting prior to the update. How long should I wait to sell off on the AH? Prices are surely going to shoot through the roof.

No need to exagerrate

I could see heating being a pain if it weren't for the fact that you're practically DROWNED in fire crystals if you run the arcade on Elite difficulty. Last night I got 63 Radiant Fire crystals in a single run to the core. SIXTY THREE and I wasn't even looking for them... you only need 9 for a 100% chance to upgrade a 5* weapon and in doing that one upgrade I got a rewarded a forge prize box which gave me 10 sparks of life, and elite alchemy orb and a 3 variant ticket out of the 1 box!

This new forge system is extremely rewarding for the effort you put in. Each level you heat your weapon up gives you the chance to get great prizes, or the chance to skip weapon levels, or get a unique variant. Now it's possible for ANYONE to make an awesome weapon and instead of it being pure chance by using tons of mist slaves. You can put in effort and get great results.

Tell me what's the problem

Tell me what's the problem with fire crystals? Because I don't see any.

@Lord-Bacon-Eater

Why would prices go through the roof? The initial crafting of equipment has actually gotten cheaper, it's just getting them to level 10 that is much more expensive.

I just wish these crystals would come from monster drops, and not just treasure boxes.

Pistol is best weapon in TF2

Behold, a reason to open those Energy gates with nothing but treasure blocks. Danger rooms oughta be really popular, as will Danger Missions- ALL THE TREASURE BLOCKS AT THE END.

(I am now saying "Treasure Blocks" because I kinda like "Treasure Blocks".)
