Don't worry bro. You can still take a break from this game - I don't expect anything from things mentioned by Nick until Spring/Summer 2015 (that's optimistic estimation). And I do mean 2015, not 2014 - it's not typo.
New T3 Boss? Brilliant idea and totally non-obvious and non-expected one! Chapeau bas OOO! I'm amazed nobody suggested it since April 2011 (you can tell by now I'm in sarcastic mood today).

Er... as far as I can say Arcade is already sandbox-type experience+place where players can farm materials+some degree of control feature. It always was like this. Yes, you screw it up a bit with introduction of missions but it's still there for sandbox-lovers like myself. I really don't know what are you going to change it, but after UI change I've lost all my trust in OOO, so I'm expecting worst. Maybe introducing new interesting levels would do the job? Smart, funny, challenging and ever-changing levels are all that Arcade is (and always was) about. You should accept some players are not aspiring enough to play a sandbox game - let them grind KoA over and over if they find it funny. Yes, I'm pity them, but there's nothing we can do for poor bastards.

You want to compensate something that makes me die more often by restricting the amount of Sparks I can pile up to revive myself? Where's the logic in that?
I other words, you want something that is optional, but bad if executed, compensated by something that's bad in any case. No thanks, leave my Sparks alone. Use something that doesn't concern me.
(This feels like you demanding free CoA Recipes, and as compensation for your freebie random not-you players get their Crowns reduced by 25k each time. Keep your fingers out of my pocket!)
I don't mind instanced loot. In actual parties, rather than everyone running around by themselves, it doesn't really make any difference. But it does curb alt-dragging, which is nice.
I wouldn't mind everyone getting the same instanced loot as long as they qualify to get any loot at all.
I play with friends for company, and the tough stuff is still easier with a better player around. (And no, I'm not doing FSC outside speciall occasions every few months.)
Only now I also enjoy playing alone.
(Now, if only the only way to view my Crowns and Energy wouldn't block the Minimap...)

Until I've seen someone in this thread mention the pre-Haven Missions, I thought Artifact meant the texts we get copied into Arsenal first time we're at the end of a boss level (if you don't forget to click the thing).
I guess that just highlights the point: If it's some other Artifact, characters like my main (Mickmane) better get access to experience the whole story, or they won't know what on earth's being continued.
Those of my alts that did get to see some Artifact in the Rescue Camp Mission still think some Gremlin ran off with it, after that Rhendon noob handed it over. Then they saw it in the Lab. Huh?
I guess I'll have to wake good old Karmarama, the character I made to welcome friends that join me after inviting them to the game in Steam, and who's destined to forever stay in the Rescue Camp. (The one true Forever Noob!) Maybe he can shed some light on what changed there.
Won't change the situation for any non-Rescue Camp character though.

Everyone is happy about OOO sharing information about future updates, and then Feller comes in and shouts "What about the coliseum?". I imagine the tape-going-back sound at the moment. This truly shows how some people are clayed to LD. No offense tough, buddy. Hopefully the things Nick was talking about will keep you and the others out of there for at least two weeks.

I'm glad to hear we'll be getting some new playable content, it's been a really long string of overhauling parts, of the game, fixing bugs and adding new toys which was great, but it's definitely past time to be adding more levels and such.
(I think lots of people in here need to remember, that just because they tell us what they're working on doesn't mean they aren't working on all those other things too, these are just the things that are on the horizon that they feel comfortable announcing right now.)

I had hopes that modifications to Lockdown would be in place, but I think I am more in favor of a new competitive team challenge mode. This allows people to still compete amongst each other, but not directly against each other, while encouraging more of a team atmosphere: to work together to accomplish a goal faster than others.
Overall, I'm still looking forward to a version of Lockdown that does not include UVs for more balanced play, but I do agree it is a lower priority than updating the Arcade and getting everything else in the game to synchronize with the pet/energy/etc updates.
Some time frame would be nice--but I can see the problem with giving out too much info and its effect on the economy/players.

Personally, I think the best part of this is all the new lore and stuff that's gonna come with all the content. As a guy who writes stories about SK, I can never have too much lore ;). Although it'll prolly mean I have to change some of my own lore to blend in the in-game lore that'll be coming in. Meh.
But yeah. Tortodrone = T3 boss, most likely. Can't wait for the Arcade's revival :o. Post-vanguard missions, meh. Challenge mode seems interesting...

When the new boss comes out, we will need:
To test dificulty and payout,
to see how much tokens it needs to get a 5* thing from Brinks and sell it for 30K,
a Shadow Lair version of the new boss levels,
its own boss tokens (obviously)
Its own statue to put in guild halls.
A 5th gate slot in the Arcade.
...New music?
Then will see if FSC still holds up.

I don't know if they'll make a shadow lair of the new boss levels. If they are, well I hope they can fit the area for the new boss (Shadow Lair version).
Also, OOO has to come up with a new material and a new shadow lair set for that SL.

I guess this also means my suggestion on reorganizing arcade gates so the even-numbered strata all have "story" gates (boss, scarlet fortress, concrete jungle, aurora isles, etc) will have to be scrapped... Well, I guess it's nice to know in a way that I didn't waste my time fleshing out a suggestion that wouldn't have happened anyway.

Since a few other debuff themes are already in use for SLs (Poison, Ice, Fire, and curse), my only guess is that they'd put shock in it. Stun would just be silly :\

Arcade revamp:

this doesn't seem like much of a change. but if you look closely...
It has also suffered from the recent sprite update, relying on mineral leftovers from the community.

so, arcade won't need minerals anymore. or at least that will be one, and not the most important, of the things that will give us "some degree of control". right now, after the sprite update, the community has no practical control over the gates. everyone is pumping down their "mineral leftovers", and nobody can do anything about it: minerals are used with sprites, and nobody got the minerals to counter all the unused valestone and moonstone out there.
so, more control over the arcade. no more blizzard, yay.
new rank missions: well, at least we got something. new enemies, new threats, maybe more ranks. anyone wants to become commander?
new T3 boss: well, what klipik said. but, erm, will it be implemented into the arcade? cause that's what all the fuss was about. well, half of it.
Challenge mode:
will allow players to work as a team in cooperative scenarios and compete with other teams for a high score
anyone noticed something strange? no? ok.
what precisely is challenge mode again? it may be me but I don't understand.

Now, just because the many of you Knights theorize that much new content is coming just because it's announced in the works by Nick and that you read all that doesn't mean it has to be more than a year or so away from now as many of you think it would be. You never know if much of that new stuff may be here quite sooner than the many of you think. It's quite predictable, but no one knows.
Also, Nick, it's been a very long time since you placed a "What's in Development" article! Finally good to see a new installment about it again, and hope you continue that on once again. And, I do hope that means we get to see another Expansion Mission or more Danger Missions soon as part of the many things to come! Other than that, I'm looking forward to the new Tier 3 boss! This may be the first one ever made and added since the game launched, and it's quite about time, too!

Well, that, and they'd have to expand the Clockwork Terminal's layout in Depth 23 shortly after any of the new Tier boss' release to add in a new entrance to the new Tier boss' Shadow Lair counterpart in the lineup and make new requirements in order to enter that new Shadow Lair.

For a new gun token reward, maybe..? If we get a new gun type that is remotely fun to use I'll totally start playing SK again, as is lost interest in all weapons sk had to offer after around 200 hours gametime.
Pls sk, I luv u but I'm bored of everything we already got, all I want 4 christmas is a new gun.

Adding to what Nearo said, why not add a new bomb? The only bomb bought with tokens is the spine cone (the 2* version of the Dark Briar Barrage). Or a new shield? New armor and helm set maybe as well? Only time will time. Overall, I am pleased with what is in the works. And I'm glad that they didn't give us a deadline. As we know what happened with the battle sprites. I do have questions as well, mostly about the arcade revamp and the new Challenge Mode, but I have some faith in OOO that they will do ok with it.

New loot would be nice, but I'm just looking forward to the idea of being able to farm somewhere else outside of FSC.
All this news is awesome a time frame or guess as to when this will be coming would be nice, after Halloween?, after christmas?
I speculate that the new antagonist will be either Herex who has had much build up and mystery around his name or the infamous King Tinkazar perhaps? with the full force of the order after the spiral knights. Tortodrones appear to be coming but will they be a common enemy, miniboss, or the new tier 3 boss all together. In one scenario room it did appear fiends were trying to revive one... interesting.
I love the arcade as is so I definitely can't wait to see these improvements of epic proportions.

Things that still need done:
- Bring back health revives, or at least provide a reasoning for removing them that actually corresponds to reality.
- Upgrade the servers. Deploy a US East server at the Philadelphia office, move the HDDs for the existing rig onto a beefier rig with a faster interconnect, buy a VPS, just do something to make the game playable at peak hours again.
- Nerf things. Blitz Needle? Nerf it. Shivermist Buster? Nerf it. Polaris? Nerf it. Offensive armor? Nerf it all.
- Buff things. The reason that offensive armor is used so much past the lowest levels of play is because dodging attacks is easy and trivializes everything you will ever face outside of maybe Shadow Lairs, thereby rendering defensive gear meaningless in comparison. Buff defensive armor. Revert the mass lobotomy of the game AI that has been conducted since launch.
- Upgrade the servers. So important it needs mentioned twice.
Also, personalized Arcade would be an extremely bad idea. It would take away the limited sense of community from things like Project UJelly of yore and the more recent shenanigans of Iron Skull Gate. If this happens I will be extremely disappointed.

Do you think they can do that out of love and air? If you haven't paid a single $ into this game, you shouldn't expect much.

That's why your intelligence needs a buff, because yours got nerfed (again no offense, just my opinion). Nerfing is one of the most stupid popular ideas that ever exist. "Buff all the things" = extremely childish point of view. Sometimes things need to get nerfed. Sometimes it is the healthiest thing for the game.

Actually I want the energy revive system replaced with sparks but the normal rev system with the health rev. Er was a good idea too.

Nerfing killed the fun out of many games like Dcuo at least for me. If you can't put any effort into your posts or any sense then please get out. Buffing over nerfing is most of the time is how all games should go. Use your brain please.

And the post-Vanguard missions included--just epic. I cant wait for a true enemy of the Spiral Knights. Hopefully the new boss is something harder than Snarby, Jelly King, RT, Vanaduke, Seerus, and Herex combined! But make sure its not a fiend. THAT would suck.
This Challenge mode seems cool too. By any chance, does it involve a kind of Arena/Survival concept? Because playing against other knights to survive the longest in a certain type (or types) arena like the Gauntlet would be awesome competition and training! But will this also go under King Krogmo's games?

But the only question is: WHEN???
No changes to the loot or Revive systems, though? More focus on missions? Sigh... I like missions, but still... Hopefully the Arcade changes will be good, and definitely keep gates, because if the only way to enter the Clockworks is through missions, there goes the point of most of the game, there.
Seerusly, though OOO, bring back health revives, (tag a cap on the SoL you can carry to compensate) make loot so not everyone has to pick up every single stupid crown and ember and make all drops the same for everyone.
Please OOO, this is meant to be a team game, not a "basically always play solo but have the option to play in a team if you want to change absolutely nothing other than enemy hp and make Vanaduck easier" game.
