The new orb drop rate is ridiculously low. I haven't found a single elite orb in over a week, and I've been doing the danger missions daily. I've been doing T3 treasure vault runs non-stop. I've been doing Jelly King runs on elite (I do everything on elite anyways), and I haven't found a single orb above advanced in a week. This is absolutely ridiculous. It's gotten to the point where in order to get a 4*, I have to buy the recipe of course (10Kcr), and then buy the orbs as well (~28Kcr in energy). If this is what the orbs have reduced crafting to, then why in the world did we change it in the first place? It now costs about 38Kcr to craft a 3* into a 4*! Let alone a 4* to a 5* (25kcr + 62kcr)! So why didn't we just stay on the mist energy system? It's ridiculous. I loved the orb system after I got used to it, but since they've dropped the rate to next to none, it's just as maddening as the first time they implemented orbs. There is absolutely no change from the old system outside of it costing even more crowns to craft. I spend about 38kcr on crafting a 3* into a 4* simply because I'm forced to buy the orbs with energy. It's maddening how many danger missions I've completed (about once a day for a week), to absolutely no avail.

Sorry for the rant of unexpected proportions, I'm just really fed up with spending so much time trying to get even enough orbs to craft 4*, let alone 5* equipment. I realize that we dropped it because some people did runs all day long, but as the orbs are untradeable, it makes no sense to punish the entire community because items that dropped at a good rate could be farmed by people playing 5 hours a day doing vana non-stop.

Once again sorry for the rant, I probably seem like a pissed off little kid who didn't get what they wanted for christmas, but does anyone else think that the drop rate is ridiculously low now?

You need happiness.

Have you tried speedrunning Roarmulous Twins on elite? Theres more boxes there than JK. And for eternals, have you tried doing Alone In The Dark on elite? If you have unlocked it, you should do it and just skip to boxes. Yes, itll take some time to get enough orbs, but itll be worth it in the end.

Not me.
I have noticed a change which I havent noted my linked data: in the danger missions there seems to be almost no orb drop rates (I do them 2-3 times a day helping friends). For the 52 reward boxes, it is extremely low. In the clockworks (or missions that exist in the clockworks) I've noticed there are more lucky and unlucky streaks, but the average comes out not as bad as you are suggesting.
There have been days that I dont find orbs, while other days I'll find 5+.

My lucky days consist of finding 2 advanced, and then the week compensates for that by not giving me anything else. I'm probably just as unlucky as it gets...

I mean in 1 week i got all the orbs i needed to craft 3* to a 4*, and I considered myself UNLUCKY?

Sheesh.....That is....Wow...

I mean i bought like 3 or 4 of them in the auction house for 12k each....but all the other were lucky drop, you're just very unlucky man o-o

PS:Rarities bought through the suply depot are tradeable.

Since the beginning of the Halloween event, I have put in about 50-60 hours of gameplay and I haven't found a single orb of ANY tier...i think OOO has a genuine hate for me =|. I always run everything on elite, I've done entire clockworks runs, vana runs, jelly runs, twins runs, even snarby runs; but alas, NOT. ONE. ORB.

I'm getting close to the point of ragequitting this game entirely if I can't find any orbs, the radiant thing was bad enough, but I cant even freaking craft anything without spending a load of energy on orbs from the supply depot, and the sad thing is that is EXACTLY how OOO wants it to be.

I began the personal statistics on elite drop and atm it loooks like:

JK 100 runs
Adv. - 4
Elite. - 21
~ 1 orb/4run

Twins 44 runs
Adv. - 0
Elite. - 7
Etern. - 1
~ 1 orb/5.5 run

Atm JK farm looks better + its faster then Twins >_<

p.s. 100 JK runs + 44 twins < 50 hours

Orbs are far too common if you ask me. The option of buying orbs with CE, just like the old system, is still there if you're so bloody impatient.

My problem is not with spending some money on orbs every once in a while, my problem is that orbs are supposed to drop, and even if it is supposed to be a somewhat rare occurrence, 50+ hours of grinding for orbs without finding a single one is infuriating. IDK, maybe I'm just the most unlucky sob out there but seriously, orbs are supposed to be RARITIES, not statistical impossibilities. Oh and to answer your question of what I'm doing with my crowns, I'm making up for the orbs that I cant find, buying recipes, and having to buy radiants (which aren't cheap if you haven't noticed) because EA-oops I mean OOO seems to like laying waste to its entire player base.

I'm not kidding, 50+ hours, no orbs. Also, don't let the mods catch you swearing, they don't take to kindly to that.

Orbs are supposed to be rare. Sure, you've gotten unlucky, but that's how Spiral Knights go.
People are so greedy nowadays..back in my day, I HAD to pay 400/800 energy to craft stuff.

I have found a few here and there, running the clockworks is a great way to find what you need. The drop rate really doesnt feel that nerfed, it does however if the only thing you do is hunt for them. If you just play the game and enjoy yourself you will find more than enough, and if not just buy orbs with CE.

Orbs are not meant to be the only way to craft, they are meant to be a free craft now and then. Relying on them too heavily is not a good idea, as it will slow you down and often makes you upset. The crafting process has not changed so buying orbs is not a bad thing, it still cost the same CE we have always used to craft, now just in orbs. Refusing to buy orbs because you may find some ingame is not a stable argument and you are purposely gimping yourself in the process.

I've played since SK first came out on steam, I remember energy crafting all too well. I'm not being greedy, I'm fine with paying for orbs, I just don't like being taunted by orbs "that you can find while playing"...honestly I would be less upset if the only way you could get orbs was by paying for them, then I wouldn't set out searching for the darn things and just farm for crowns, it makes gameplay far less disappointing.

It sounds as if the problem is in your expectations. Before 2013-07-30, you were content to pay for crafting, and you would have been thrilled not to have to pay sometimes. On 2013-07-30, you dramatically altered your expectations. So now you are content when you get free crafting, and disappointed/frustrated when you have to pay for crafting.

I'm not saying this to pick on you. You're not alone in having these expectations. Probably Three Rings could have done a better job in managing the switch.

Anyway, now that you recognize that finding orbs is rare, you are presumably altering your expectations back to having to pay for crafting. Look on the bright side: At least elevators are free now. (On the other hand, heating is not...)

IMO

I think that finding orbs is meant to be a much more "Hey, I found an orb, nice" Thing than solely depending on the orb drops to craft things. It's effectively letting us craft things exactly as we used to, but, every so often (and not very often, that's the point) we'll get a free craft. If you're really fussed about crafting being nigh-impossible using only dropped orbs then maybe you should just save up your CE and buy weapons from the supply depot? You'll earn the crowns in the same amount of time as it would take you to find the orbs for a whole alchemy line ;D

If there is one thing I wish we could do with the orbs, is craft them down, just like Fire Crystals. Since 5* Orbs are literally the most common (being that I can find them as early as Strata 3, haha) this makes the most sense. And the cost would stay the same. 3 Eternals turn into 6 Elites (800 ce -> 400 + 400), 6 Elites turn into 12 Advanced (400 + 400 -> 200 + 200 + 200 + 200), etc.

Otherwise, I am perfectly happy with the drop rate and the system.

I always run the Ironclaw

I always run the Ironclaw Factory and Jelly Palace on Elite mode for my elite orbs. Works out well if you put your mind and effort into it.
