New Weapon Classes

I had an idea for a few weapon classes and sub-classes.

Spears:
My first suggestion was having a new weapon class called the Spear. The spear can attack the same way as a sword, but it can reach farther while fighting. Also i thought of the spear with a charged ability. What i was thinking was that, when charged the spear is released from the knight and is thrown as a ranged attack. Upon releasing the spear it will go through the air and land or hit an enemy. The ranged attack won't go as far as a handgun attack (Maybe it will fly only a few spaces away from the player). Upon landing on the ground after the charged attack the spear will deal different status damage. The type of damage will vary from spear to spear. Some spears will deal fire damage, poison, stun, shadow, etc. I know the sword and handgun already have melee and ranged capabilities but the spear provides a weapon that can deal melee and ranged attacks without switching. I also feel that players will fell a greater sense of freedom and the ability to choose different weapon choices.

Bow:
My second suggestion was a weapon class called the Bow. Obviously the Bow will have ranged capabilities. Now, I know there are already handguns, but having the ability to choose from a variety of weapon types gives players a wider range of weapons to choose from. The Bow will be able to shoot arrows. The charged attack will vary from bow to bow and damage will vary as well. Some Bows will deal elemental, fire, poison, stun, shadow, etc. i was also thinking of a charged attack that would shoot a small volley of arrows(somewhat like the autogun). Or a charged attack that would shoot a single large beam that has the capability to shoot though multiple enemies. I also thought of the bow as a weapon that could shoot ranged attacks not as far a handgun bot maybe more powerful that the average handgun attack.

Others:
The last thing I thought about a weapon as a crossbow. It could be a class of it's own or as a sub-class of the bow. it is the "inbetweener" of the hand gun and the bow. I t will be able to shoot farther than the bow, but less that the handgun. It could also do less damage than the bow but more that handgun bullets.

I hope That there are a few open minded people out there who will support this idea. I also Hope the game people could Integrate this into the game

In my personal opinion, -1 to the Spears, -1 to the bows, but +1 to Crossbows.
Basic logic would seem to actually make a bow more like a bomb, as you'd have to pull back the bow string before firing (and assuming you have a quiver, you have to pull the arrows out of that, too). I.E., it would have to be purely charge attacks.

Spears have been recommended tons of times, there's not much more to be said.
Crossbows seem fine, even if they were completely beside the point of the weapons you wanted to add.

the classes in a nutshell

Spears=swords overall mechanically, see also almirian crusader's reskinned flourish.
bow technology essentially would be reskinned Magnus. (Magnus normal shots are weak and a single bullet appears after charge.) which you could change to pierce. Mechanically speaking this would still be a gun.

gods ain't gonna help you, son.

your spear is a GF/DA.
your bow idea is flawed a bit. first up, to fire a bow you need to pull the string all the way. secondly, it should have more range and less damage than handguns, not vice-versa; study weapon history. third, shoot lasers? it's a bow.
study weapon history again on crossbows. they aren't high-ranged weapons, it's mid range. high range are bows.
we also could just implement them into the game as swords or handguns, as a hammer and a wrench wand are swords and DR is a bomb.
one last note: there are 4 damage types (normal, elemental, shadow, and piercing). statuses are something different entierly. don't say "dealing fire damage" cause only fire inflicts fire damage.

@ Thuner-The-Bright
Just curious, but how is the DR not bomb like, for you to put it up for that comparison?

DR has a little explosion, then it has freaking rotating orbs that spawn like that. show me a bomb like DR.

Point taken

EDIT: Oh wait, future tech that allows the manipulation of gravity fields and anti-matter would allow this.

You Gotta Think Unique.

You gotta think on what the game already has. If you are going for new weapon types they have to be different not just, as Terrty said, an excuse not to use swords or guns. I'm pretty sure this isnt the first time this hasn't come across anyone else's mind.

Dual Wielding

What I mean by this is not just taking two random swords and allowing them to be dual wielded. I mean having a specified weapon when equipped it would have two swords. Similar to the way the Dual Blades worked in Infinity Blade II, in the inventory its one weapon but when equipped has two of that sword. This dosent mean you cant have a black and a white sword, I mean the blades come as a pair that appear in your inventory as 1 weapon. What I think dual swords would be is dropping defenses for offences obviously. I think Dual Swords should have maybe a higher attack rate and less attack power. Blocking could be replaced with counter attacks or parrying such as once you hit the block key you would raise your swords for a very small amount of time a second maybe a less. If hit during that time you do a counter attack that is like a critical hit.

Somehow, this guy's opinion

Somehow, this guy's opinion on Dual Wielding is convincing... Being on a separate class of its own, so there could be a weapon listed as Twin Revolvers for Dual Wielding guns similar to two Sentenzas.

Dual Wielding +1

Bow/Crossbow +1

Spear - 1 = It's sort of thin Troika-type weapons.

no hearth, that is the only Nick approved way of Dual Wielding, i.e. creating a whole new class of weapons.
"whole" means that it would require a lot of time and balancing.

Magic?

i talked about this on a SUPER old thread.i thought of magic, basically a support class - with speed buffs and the like, but also has SOME damage spells to keep them not relient on friends. YES - this is flawed. it need reworking. but thats the point, lets improve if u dont just say WHADDAFA is this , no.

skillkid, the "insta no" reaction is just for ideas that have been discussed already and turned out bad.
the answers to this thread (exept pipi which I don't understand) were discussing about the idea, not refusing it.

I believe it was Autofire who made the big thread about weapons that were dual-wielded cosmetically only, in the way Oraxs described.
http://forums.spiralknights.com/en/node/82386 <-- thread
So +1 to that.

As for the actual OP, the weapon mechanics you detailed are too similar to existing swords and guns to justify making them an entirely separate class. If there was to be a spear or bow weapon, it would just fall under the sword or gun class, which means it would be affected by the same bonuses. I believe SK benefits from the fairly simple weapon system, because you don't get the confusion common in larger MMORPGs or ARPGs(diablo-esque games) of classes that can use a one-handed axe but not a two-handed one, and a shortbow but not a longbow or a crossbow, or a rifle and not a pistol. It's very straightforward - Swords, guns and bombs. You can use all three, and you can get bonuses that affect one of the three or all three. Adding more classes would make it more confusing as well as make UVs even more broken.

One last thing, keep in mind that not all guns or swords have the same range and damage. You can't say that a class of weapon would do "less damage than a gun", when the damage of guns ranges from Callahan damage versus a construct to Blitz needle versus a beast.
