The Worlds in Time game will cease operation on February 28th, 2014.

Looks like one of Three Rings' games is ending, no other announcements yet on their forum
Maybe it's a sign of things to come, or maybe it will mean more development time for SK.

If Spiral Knights does end, I wonder if they'll ever think back to us when they close the game and be like "oh man, we should have listened to those pesky forum goers instead of just finding silly reasons to ban them, could have nerfed those brandishes, now we're on the streets, could have advertised more and made the game into something more, but no we had to take away their shard bombs and push them around..." Wouldn't that be something indeed?

I suppose this isn't the first time they've failed like this though- I mean, look at Bang! Howdy! So I suppose they wouldn't. I hope it doesn't come to ending us though, it'd be nice to get more development time.

I just want to let you know when we together we can take it slow

This game was a joint venture with BBC, so pretty much BBC paid three rings to develop this game using their specifications ofc, and well the end-result was the game was pretty meh. I don't think its a sign of things to come at all makes sense to shut down a game with a very small player-base, and something that isn't generating great profit. (The call most likely came from BBC tho).

Side-Note:

Forum community of Sk doesn't even build up 10% of the Sk community

@Njthug

First, are you Eurydice?

Second, I now feel special that the forum doesn't build up 10%, perhaps not even 5%. I feel really, really special.

Let us not hope OOO will close down SK!

My brothers and sisters! We shall unite under the one flag of those who has fought before us! We shall preserve a dream long lived by the guardians of the age! For the CHAIIINNN! For Spiral Knights! For the benefit of our OOO, who works hard to keep the community intact and keep food on their table! For Boswick, who creates amazing art! For Prometheus, who created the great SK steam trading cards! For Eurydice, who managed....uh...answered posts? wutever ._. For the GLORY OF SK! SK FOREVER!!!!!!!!!!!

@Njthug's Side Note

Go read my thread about that- you're thankfully right. It makes up the part of SK that has some issue with the game, as well as a handful of other people commenting on these things. In a perfect world, opinions on the forum would be polled by OOO and proven legitimate before being swiftly dealt with.

Not that it matters whether there is a majority's support in this case. Its not like there are 15 players on the forums going "I hate the acheron buff because acheron looked nicer doing slightly less damage", its even fewer players taking numbers and carefully examining them to determine that the game is in fact broken to some extent.

Maybe they'll say "If only we hired Zeddy to do Science for our game..." instead? But I think Spiral Knights is doing fine. WiT had no udpates for a year or so prior to the announcement of its closure.

You are experiencing a PICNIC ERROR!

@Njthug Forum community of Sk doesn't even build up 10% of the Sk community

So true. I wish others would understand this.

Anyway, I'm surprised! I thought the Docter Who game was kinda new...I didn't think it would get the sock so fast.

I might give it a quick try while it lasts. I was a tad curious, but I've never watched the show.

La La La Girl you be everything you want let me get up there =0

@Annilation -- The world will never know the truth about who Eury really is, and you should be proud you make up a very small % of Sk forum community, and Boswick doesn't work for Three Rings anymore just saying.

@Fehzor --- Sadly not all of those old vets feel the same man. The game has its flaws, but hiring Zeddy to fix it isn't the solution. Most of the time players even like myself assume its easy to fix something which we feel is simple, but we don't realize the work, time, and other projects going on with the team to well fully "take care of a problem as in balancing" (Most games aren't so balanced as it is tbh that perfect balance we all seek is basically trying to build an utopia for online games).

@Auto --- The game is meh its hard to get a grasp of at the start not much of a social aspect to it as well, and it runs a bit slow, but it is worth checking out if you have some free time considering it will go poof soon.

I think they'll do fine in the end and I see your point. I'm willing to let them take their time and work through any issues holding them up, but when they never address such proven concerns it makes me question their judgement. I'm really hoping that they'll come through with the gunner update to-morrow or next week by dealing with this radiant business, or at least deal with it whenever the next arcade redux comes out... though that might be as far off as next fall.

I'm under the impression that hiring someone to do quick fixes might not be such a bad idea though... like with mad bomber armor. Its been how long since that was made obsolete? A year? It'd be cool if they'd give it some kind of a temporary buff until they figure out what they really want with it.

Like, look at it this way- Armor balance is extremely messy due to unique variants, heating requirements, misleading stats and lack of standardization. The only real way to fix it would be to redo most of it, which is impossible due to the bit where players are heavily invested in it... so OOO will at some point need to do something about this, but like you said, they've got a lot on their plate and that's understandable. But in the mean time, why not entertain us and smooth out some of the kinks until a better solution is found?

More on topic- anyone know why Doctor Who: WiT is closing?

Pffft, have you seen how active their forums are? There's barely one thread every month in General Discussion, while we get 3 or 4 a day.

great, more devs for us (hopefully). I'm sorry for OOO cause they just lost a game, but we can do nothing about it.

Maybe they'll be thinking "Oh man we should have made those bans permabans so the other 90% weren't trolled down, attack and felt they were able to use the forum maybe even enjoying posting there."

I played Dr Who for awhile when it first came out. So did someone else I know in rl. For both of us, it was a short play. Our take on it was it was too much puzzle and not enough of anything else especially Dr Whoish type play. It was like a puzzle game in the disguise of Dr Who.

There's obviously some reason

There's obviously some reason they are shutting it down. I would be willing to wager that it has something to do with the BBC end of things. Why? Because this is the first game OOO has shut down. Not even Bang! Howdy has been shut down and their playerbase is smaller than 20. Bang! Howdy doesn't have a big source of income either since it's basically a "pay once and yer done" sort of thing. I'm sure those <20 people have already made that purchase or probably won't.

Rolling this over to Gremlin

Rolling this over to Gremlin Chatter, because Worlds in Time's closing does not impact Spiral Knights.
