Believe it or not, it took me TWO YEARS. I enjoyed the nooby life, always sold stuff which crippled my progress, bought stuff I shouldn't have bought, was a lockdown addict, was a Jelly King addict (If i wasn't doing LD I was doing Jelly King. I know every and wasted my money in dumb ways. And I have played since beta too.... Then again, I took a break for 2 moths twice.
Anyway, what is your story and say how it took you. Making this thread was dumb as to it will make me feel sad looking at the small times during which people became Vanguards.
How long did it take YOU to become a Vanguard?
A week and a half.
I had played when SK first came out, but then I quit shortly after. I came back, and got to Vanguard in a week and a half, although I had been carried through enough Vana runs that I used Ancient Plate shield as my 5* shield, and I had OCH at the time as well, granting me a free 5* weapon as well.
Two weeks later the Sprite update came out.
Thus why my only Level 10 5* gear besides Vog and WMRH is my Voltedge...
Really? 1.5 weeks? You have sucessfully took all of my self-esteem. Thanks.
From when I first started? 3 years. But I became a vanguard 3 times in that time. (Many alts)
2 days.
Of course, I'd been playing for quite some time before vanguard was a thing too.
Let's see...
Joined 4/??(3 days after beta)/2011, took 8 month hiatus upon joining which = December when I was 2*,
Moved to new house on 2012 which I stayed 4* for a long time as I was stuck on those 8-3 missions, couldn't do anything about it and I was just fooling around doing stuff that was totally irrelevant,
Upon February of 2013 is when I achieved it so about almost 1 and 1/4 years if not 1 and 1/2.
I still have yet to achieve this. I look at alts as a way to "cheat" the game which I believe is wrong. (Besides other forums ban alts)
Look up my Champion-Vanguard survey. I started playing around Halloween 2011, ditched for a month or so then continued until I became vanguard last thanksgiving.
A week... What?? I was full 5* and stop from January 2012 to November 2012... so I simply rushed my missions as full bomber and skipping most content...
"oh hey a T1 arena"
*put 2-3 nitronomes*
*move along*
I post under my alt, which has yet to reach haven. My normal account (which i don't post as for privacy reasons), I joined June 2011, and reached vanguard January of 2014, so 2.5 years. In the meantime I took a break for 17 months and nearly forgot about the game. Before the break I stopped playing missions and just played the arcade, and even then I never went past t3 Basil, as I was running merchant runs for recipes and was trying to conserve my mist energy. It actually worked out pretty well and I had an efficient system going and I made a killing, it's harder these days to make money with recipes, I'm not sure why...
Took me for around 2 years to become Vanguard
When I got enough ce to craft 4* or 5 * gear ,Then I look at chat box
XXXXXX: WTS TF2 hat for xxxce,PM meh!
me: I want that!.....
.....
Well I got a hat and lost rank progress.
Also I can't do RJP even with 4* equipment, So I stuck at knight rank <---took me 5 months to defeated him( what a noob)
/e sheds a tear.
That was a fun day, since I was there! :)
They grow up so fast, thought you've been playing for years before I... It is still pretty funny.
@OP
I have answered this already on that Champ-Vangard thingy...
But around 1.5 months I believe.
a year or so, but I can't be certain. I also was semi inactive from march to may 2013, but at that time I was trying to pass the 5* HoH with wolver caps because of school.
hm... i think it was numbered in months... maybe 6-8 of them. I remember that i had for the longest time not known about the mission button (i kid you not), and simply sat about. It was only a few months after that i figured it out, and by then i had progressed so far i couldn't find it in me to bother to do the missions. It had become a joke in the guild, where people would shout to "do your missions" usually followed by widespread laughter, and i had grown accustomed to the many "how are you still a recruit" comments (if they had only known it was to laziness and noobiness, they would have revered me a lot less). I know what got me to finally move for it as well, which was also my first post to the forums. i remember it was the sprite update, when i had finally heard the level limits were coming to be specific. Of course, by that time, my 4-5* gear mix made it a 1.5 day cakewalk.
Ah... the memories.
*Then realizes that trivially, both of the people who helped me out the most on it and encouraged me to give completing them in time the old college try have both quit and deleted (one due to life circumstances, and one out of simple spite for the devs and their constant dissapointments, i believe it was).
I startend in late 2011, played for ~4 months and after a huuuuge break (surge and hunter event and Mission update in the meantime) i came back in Fall 2012 and became vanguard in early summer 2013. Btw everything was better back then... no LD... No missions... Good ui... You had to get all recipes from basil(not the Cobalt set though)...
Two weeks, though I was also already fully five-star ready (and FSC-ready) before the mission system was added. I had a lot of class work so it was just a couple hours a day, then about a week of struggling to solo FSC. I finally bit the bullet and tried a random party to actually get my vanguard status.
From start to finish , it took me 31 days, 1 hour, 50 minutes, and 55 milliseconds. The date I reached Vanguard, was may 29, 2013. Started in june or august 2012. I didn't and still haven't spent any money into this game. I'm thinking about spending some money (the warden helms...) but will probably not.
@Tweeter
No really, it took me 2 days to get to vanguard, because I was already 5* and it was just a matter of finding time to play the update... and I had school stuff that week, so I couldn't do it immediately.
Took me 1.5 years. In beta I was really bad, and I didn't play that much. When the new weapons were added, I was really confused and had no good armor.
It took me exactly 1 year 43 weeks
I was stuck on getting to 3 star, and then getting to 5 star.
Could you like do this thing.
It's called timestamps.
You should read them.
Yeah, that would really be nice. Necroing is generally looked down upon.
Also, back when you made all of your threads and whatnot, I think I explained one or two times (maybe less, maybe more) why you shouldn't buy equipment from the depot, as well as there being a thread (that you made) full of people saying you shouldn't.
Here. For what I mentioned earlier, look at posts #1, 2, 4, 8, 9, 10, 14, and 19.
Or did you mean you crafted them?
Joined in December 2011.
Became Vanguard in August 2012.
I did pay a few times before getting T3 clearance, especially for the Metal Sonic Armor.
Took me.... How long..? From the time vertical vents, extra vertical vents, and cat tails came to two months after the forge catastrophe. I quit for eight months in between... so maybe like... eight months? But then again, I was trying to get a shadow cat tail, and snarbolax set without five star armor. I had four five star weapons before I got to vanaguard though. And a divine halo, prismatic halo, divine cat tail, volcanic dragon wings, two mewkat monster pockets... etc... I guess I just didn't want to get to vanaguard that badly. After I finished five star hall of heroes, I finished in like two hours.
tl;dr - Eight months.
It took me less than a year, but that was when I had only azure armor. Now I have vog and snarby set with shadow Dragon wings and cat tail
First knight was deleted before missions.
Second, i was 4* when missions released and it took about 2 months, without paying.
Third from 0* with elevator passes- about 1.5 months.
On the test server 2-3 days with infinite CE.
Didn't try to make new vanguard after 30 july update, but i guess that with forge system it will take more than 2 months even with some bought energy.
I think it took me a year and a half-ish. Took like a 4 month break because mist energy bored me. Went back until I reached vanguard. One story that I have of this was I used to be a beggar. One time thing, to get materials to make a nightblade so I could farm Jelly King to no end. After that, I didn't need to beg anymore. What's ironic is that I hate beggars now. But that's mostly because nowadays, elevators are free, so you current beggars go farm it yourself. You have no idea what pain and suffering the Mist Energy Era brought us veterans ;-;. Either way, yes, I'm a hypocrite.
I think like many of the first Vanguards it took us 2 weeks.
2 days, I think i should go out more......
2 days, I think i should go out more......
A few hours after the Missions were released, though that doesn't say much more than that I was already decked to plow through them all.
Realistically, by the time I had cleared the Firestorm Citadel for the first time about two or three months had passed. I enjoyed playing around with different types of gear so progression wasn't too big of a focus. It wasn't until I was becoming more adept at handling the Tier 3 enemies that I decided to start making preparations towards raiding the Firestorm Citadel and take down Lord Vanaduke.
@ Shidara how did you get Vanguard a few hours after missions came out?? Did you hack the game? Took the fastest of us 2 weeks.
I got vanguard in about 4 days total of playing time. Took me a month and a half of playing 1-2 hours a day(ish)
Did I say 2? I meant 4 because of dat 2 month ban the GMs gave me
(falsely of course)
Also, I wouldv'e been faster if I wasn't so stubborn and wanting to get that Ice queen set as my first 5star...
Because I wasn't addicted and i was F2P... I was a efender for 5 months... LOL
Technically 1 week, once the word "Vanguard" actually meant something... (Update, hint hint)
Let's see,
I started playing shortly after Beta, I think it was right around the time when the auction House was first Introduced.
At that time, Crown payouts were extremely robust, and so was the Heat for your weapons and armors, so In no time at all, after I was carried thru many Vanaduke Runs, I got to 5-star in no time flat. Then I stopped, this was after that update which gave Jelly-cubes Ranged attacks, and the added poly-ups, god awful monsters..
So I took a LONG break, then I came back, and Found some pretty neat updates, we have pets now(YAYYY), and even more terrible monsters and traps. :( One thing does puzzle me, IF explosive cubes do damage to anything surrounding it, so should all traps, but that's just my opinion.
Now I started a New character, and IMO, it's even more difficult to get to 5-star than it was before the Pet update, Now IF you get lucky, you have to collect crystals to heat your gear, ( Before that, you could get a Heat booster, and heat all your gear in no time flat..).
It's more of a struggle now, crown payouts are extremely Nerfed, from what they used to be. When I used to play, I could easily make on a daily basis 3000 Crystal Energy, and that was just from doing everyday runs, Like Vanaduke, and even Jelly King.
Now- a complete run from 1 all the way to JK , for example, only pays 2K crowns, or almost 3K, and it doesn't help that we have to pay Guild Upkeep. LIKE WTH? It's almost like SK co-insides with Fuel Prices, everyone is going to complain, but everyone still Grumbles and buys it anyway. XD
So my new character is stuck at 4 star, trying to buy those "OTHER" things to craft armors, and weapons, it was so much simpler with Just CE.
( *Sigh*... It really discourages me from playing, I feel pressured into Getting enough crowns to pay Guild Upkeep, let alone the fact that I need to craft things for myself, It goes hand in hand with real life scenario, " It's the first of the Month, rent is due, and so are bills"... I don't want to play SK to feel like this, I want to play SK to Get away from all this BS, but Here i am... :( )
Oh so true right? You are playing this game to get away from the practical things like you mentioned: " It's the first of the Month, rent is due, and so are bills"... I don't want to play SK to feel like this, I want to play SK to Get away from all this BS, but Here i am... :( )"
I don't want to feel like that when I play SK either. D:
Sometimes when I play, I start thinking more and more about taking a long break from SK. Last time I did, I think I stopped right when they were introducing the missions, then I was gone for quite a while. When I came back, there were pets, more missions (I'm assuming there were less back then) and this new forging. I agree with you that it was much faster to get to 5* and level before all of this. Yes, I do like that I can run the clockworks for free, but I think really, I would like to go back to the mist/ce method. Even though the playtime would be limited (if you strictly only used mist) I still miss how we leveled our gear.
I started a new character about a month ago, and I have yet to see how it will be getting to 3*-5* gear. I had a friend that needed advanced orbs of alchemy to make his gear for the HoH (Hall of Heroes) mission, but poor guy was getting frustrated because we would run TONS of missions (RT, JK, or the required depth at which the advanced orbs have a chance of dropping) and nothing would drop, so he would resort to buying the orbs.
Anyways, I just wanted to add that I liked your post, and got me pondering again about the new way things work. Oh and I already had 5* gear as well when I left for a while, so it was easier for me to get through the ranks. :|

Two years, because T2 LD came out in the middle of one of the years.
^_^ IKR?
Well, when I left... I made the hard choice of deleting my character,, LOL- ( and I do mean Everything, and everything associated with it.. But that's Another story..)
I think when I came back, the Mist system was still in place, and I could easily still make 1000 CE a day, but it all changed.
The problem is, when something New is introduced, for example- another completely NEW accessory, at first CE prices Drop, then
Over the course of a few days, once the Pay-to-win Players acquire such items, they post in the Auction House for Ridiculous prices. ( LOL- Kinda reminds me of How OPEC works with oil and gas.. XD.)
I understand that 3 rings is a business, BUT- and this is a big BUT- Shouldn't the CE, and the market alike be put into a more User friendly manner?
I mean something Not so out-of-reach, that would entice more players into SK?
Hikaru~
We've had this topic before. So many times before.
