We should have a messanger for Spiral Knights which we can download so that we don't really have to log on to the game itself to talk to our guildies or friends. An easy way to have discussions and we should be able to add friends and remove friends from our lists.
Please check this post out and try to put in the next update. After it has been put you should send a mail to all knights asking if they want to download it. And for new knights ask them if they want to download it after they made a new account just like you ask if they want to make a shortcut.

Having a program connect to Spiral Knights would be kinda creepy, especially when you look at your friendslist and half of them are "connected via SpiralNet"

Agreed with U77 on this one. If you're asking for other people to download a chat program anyway, there's no reason for it to be linked to SK. My guild was looking for software like this recently, we found something called C3 that you might want to check out.
or something along the lines of a chat dashboard, or a chat room somewhere here in the forums. cause making everyone download something for that is kind of ridiculous for me.
