Who said Magicka was a trading card game? It's a fast-paced, insanely intense game where you blow your friends up and stuff.

Why should Volcanic have Gremlin High? Don't they resist fire damage?

Not sure about Arcane having only Construct High, since that's Shadow Lair and all. That would be on par with the BKC, and still not as good universally as Wolver stuff.

Do you support removing ALL of Chaos's defense, except for maybe a small bit of Normal?

-Oh. Oops. THAT Magic something or other game. Yeah, I've seen some videos of it, but never played it.

-...Just because you're wearing Volcanic doesn't mean you have to use fire. It just resists it. Snort.

-I've always thought class-based gear should have slightly lower defense than everything else. It's true that it'd still be inferior without other changes, but hey, you just asked me about Chroma gear, so...

-Way too heavy of a nerf. I was thinking something more among the lines of cutting its CTR down a level, making a two-piece set give Medium instead of Very High, while keeping the VH damage bonus.

The thing with Chaos is that it's intended to be a glass-cannon/kamikaze/etc. set. CTR inadvertently makes it way safer than it should be, since many popular charge-attack weapons have large AoE (alongside the pure-damage charges). I'm not even gonna bring bombs into this, that stuff's too obvious.

If the CTR has to stay, I figure ASD Low on each piece would be enough.

Thing is, though, is this is just theorycrafting. If I were in charge of balancing and balance testing, I'd avoid making extremely heavy nerfs unless I was sure something was blatantly overpowered. Chaos shouldn't go from "top tier" to "trash tier", it should go to "sidegrade".

The entire point of different equipment is to promote different styles/approaches to play, anyway.. and Chaos doesn't strike me as the "safe, sweeping bonus" kind of gear.

@Draycos
I don't think the Valkyrie set would reduce the attacker's offensive stats. Because the set looks heavenly. So it's supposed to be something related to a blessing(buff), not a debuff. But, seriously, your idea is the best thing to the set that I can imagine, because I'm trying to figure out something that don't buff the entire party that resemble a blessing, because I noticed that everything that buffs the party is exploitable.

To Fallen, I agree with you are proposing.

-Massive team-wide buffs should be something Sprites do, honestly.

-The reason why I made Valkyrie and Fallen flip-sides of each other is... well, it's fitting. Yeah.

-Normal damage still needs some fixing (or is that split-damage?).

-Unique Variants are a bag of worms that I really wish never existed.

But they're already here.

And people would be mad if anything changed. Which sucks, because the game would be so much better without them.

While I can't think on anything to Valkyrie Set, let's talk about another set. What about Chroma set?
I thought that it should have invisibility, like a lot of other players think. But, to invisibility don't be OP, i thought in do it alternate, something like that:
When you equip one piece of Chroma set, you automatically got 9 seconds of invisibility and 12 seconds of visibility. Each piece of Chroma takes 3 seconds of the visibilty to invisibility. So, a full set would give 15 seconds of invisibility and 6 of visibility.
When you enter in a level, a counter begins to count 6 seconds of visibility. When it count 6, you become invisible and it count 15 seconds of invisibility. When it count 15, you become visible and the cycle begin again.
When you hit a enemy, you becomes visible.
So, is it reasonable?

Draycos's picture

Invisibility mechanics were already done with Maskeraith. It'd be kinda redundant.

Speaking seriously, a constant-switch invisibility mechanic would be absolute chaos with how monster aggro works.

If it were something like, say, two seconds of standing perfectly still gives you a brief ~4 seconds (with some random cooldown slapped on)... that might work a little better.

@Draycos

First time that I was imagining how would work invisibility, I thought on giving a counter just for visibility. So I thought:
"Nah. The guy can be running around, spamming charge attacks and waiting for invisibilty again". Sure, on this way, the player would take a large time doing it, but I thought it is exploitable. So, I decided to make it constant-switching to avoid it.
I'll do what you said: 4 seconds of visibility. So, each pieces takes 4 seconds instead of 3.
I forgot to say that you become visible if you get hit too.

I was thinking that Jelly set would have a chance of automatically bumps when attacked.

I see that you don't liked the Chroma set idea and don't have another idea to this set, so i changed the topic.

Whoa whoa whoa, let's not get too crazy with the on-hit stuff here! Debuffs are one thing, but auto-bumping is another, much more powerful mechanic. Can't just let the game play itself for you, right?

Jelly might be better suited for doing something more interesting and practical... like increasing the knockback you deal and take.

Why isn't Azure Guardian Armor protecting against ALL defense types, even if only by a little bit? It's supposed to be a jack-of-all-trades, but the Constructs and Fiends laugh mockingly.

Drakon would be my favorite if its abilities did what they were intended to do, instead of having the same damage as other Sprites and nothing else appealing... which is a shame. Wait a minute, who am I kidding. Backfire Barrier is the most fun ability in the game.

Speaking logically, though, Maskeraith is the strongest overall.

I tried to eat an ownerless Maskeraith once. Apparently, they take great offense to being eaten and will hurt you.

It tasted like grape jello and cloth.

-That's only assuming you're constantly in something's face. You just can't do that with every enemy; and the ones that let you are likely easy enough that you're just wasting your cooldowns.

Having Backfire Barrier lets you do some very strange things, like dashing to the backline of a wave of enemies to murder a healer, avoid damage you should have taken otherwise, or other movement-based gimmicky tricks. It amps your defense by the same amount, too; all you're losing out on is orb-damage.

And I'll say again: that damage is too situational, and such situations aren't worth cooldowns.

-More shadow bombs would be great! I'd also like the current Shadow bombs to get tweaks too, though. All vortex bombs should lose their explosion knockback, and Shards are... well, they're Shards.

______

-I don't blame them for their choices, but it makes me sad there are so few "top tier" sets to choose from.

I don't want to talk about Lockdown, ever. It's an evil place, but perhaps a necessary evil.

I can't take videos. Sorry.

I can tell you, however, that I'm pretty sure the MSI from Backfire and a pickup doesn't stack. I might be wrong, but... yeah.

I've tried VH MSI with Backfire before, and it's absolutely hilarious what stupid things you can pull off, like charging a Vortex at more-than-regular movespeed. It's that fast.

Speaking of which, I almost never use anything but an MSI perk on my Sprite. I've never used health trinkets or perks.

Which Trinkets do you recommend for a swordsman who thinks it's too mainstream to get health trinkets/perks?

Now I kinda want to test that out. As soon as I get another Ultimate Evo...

Have you ever tried using your Explosive Firestorm with a Crystal Harness on FSC Slags stuck in a Vortex?

Tue, 02/11/2014 - 18:43

Draycos's picture
Draycos

Like I personally said earlier in the thread, I use Sword ASI and Bomb CTR. I'd probably use another ASI trinket if I didn't need the CTR.

I've done extensive testing for the sake of a megathread on Sprites and what I would like them to be as opposed to what they are now. You can see a multi-month thread here with a lot of relevant discussion.

I pretty much found out that it's almost better to just keep whacking things with hammers/more vortexes/other AoE than it is to stop and cast Explosive Firestorm.

Explosive Firestorm is only better than actual attacks when it's too dangerous to do anything with the vortex yourself, and those moments are few and far between... since, y'know, there are times where vortexing isn't the best idea anyway.

Draycos's picture
Draycos

I think there's a lot of value between all different party sizes between 1 and 3 players. 4 is too chaotic and makes me feel like I'm attacking things with styrofoam peanuts.

Playing alone lets me take as much time as I want, idle whenever I want, and attempt stupid things that might annoy other players in a group (unless it's some of my good friends. When you've "beaten" the game, reinventing the wheel can be fun, but not when you're trying to actually accomplish something).

Playing in a duo gives me all the joys of co-op while still having a lot more leniency in how I want to play. Many enemies die only a couple hits later than when playing alone, so it's not that annoying just yet.

In a trio, I can do even wonkier things than in a duo, but it's also at the point where my attacks start feeling really weak.

Generally speaking, playing in a duo is the most fun for me.

Dragon Scale armor isn't very draconic, but the helmet certainly is.

I don't like the Salamander armor too much; the tail doesn't look right, to me, and the hands are pretty disproportionate.

I usually end up using the helmets, and color-associated armor.

Arcane/Iron Dragon + Obsidian,
Surge Dragon + Surge Coat,
Arcane + Polar Night,
Storm Dragon + Heavenly Guardian,
Volcanic Salamander + Vog Coat,
etc. etc.

I use a darker shade of blue as my personal color, which is why I don't use the other Salamander helmets much.
