In all seriousness, why do you people care so much about the gunner update? What, more 5* items that you won't be able to heat and weapons that you'll swap out for their sword counterparts. If we're lucky, maybe we'll get some mechanics changes to make things more interesting (looking at you, magnus line/iron slug), but those are just more items, and guns at that.

But where is the noise for the Arcade Redux?

Here, I'll even quote it for you:

Arcade Redux:
After a great deal of evaluation we’ve decided to change the way the Arcade will work and the purpose it will serve to the SK community. After introducing missions, the Arcade has become a place of redundancy. It has also suffered from the recent sprite update, relying on mineral leftovers from the community.

Over several patches, we intend to transform the Arcade into the place it has always aspired to be:
- A sandbox-type experience where unexpected things can happen
- A place where players can farm materials and items in between missions
- A feature that gives players some degree of control over the experience

Like, look at it, they admit that Arcade got completely gimped by missions, then say a bunch of interesting things.
Sandbox-type experience? That sounds fun and refreshing compared to the levels as they are right now.
Place to farm materials- wait, farm materials and items between missions? Catering to gamer needs?
Control over the experience? Eh, if gate minerals were 'control over the experience', not as exciting, but whatever.

These all break away from the current flow of the game, which is a mad rush to get upgraded gear.
:|

It's gotten so much less exposure because the gunner update had so much stupid exposure from announcements and cancellations, but the Arcade Redux is going to be worth way more.

We expected it earlier

We got a date for the gunner update which kept being pushed back, and more talk was in the air. We talk about what we see. I can't wait for the arcade redux to be complete, but I see nothing really to discuss.

Oh I very much agree with you.

The only reason I even care about the gunner update at all is because it might have tortodrones and radiants in it... well, that and more stuff to argue about in the arsenal.

I'm not like, sitting here hungry for content to come out demanding that the devs feed me. I'm more wanting to see them do what is right for the game and actually succeed, rather than flailing about like they are so oft to do. Blah blah blah, level editor, I've spoken my side of this. Proceed.

Why gunner update?

Grim repeater. I'm interested in the mechanics and whether it will be balanced. Mostly mechanics.

there is no way they can work

there is no way they can work on the arcade redux if they are already struggling with the gunner update. with people leaving the SK team, it will be a long time until we can see either update.

unless... the arcade redux is included in the gunner update, then that would explain why it is taking so long

Actually, I've been under the impression that they were working on arcade redux and the boss stratum instead of the gunner update. If leaks are to be believed, then the models for the guns have been done for the longest time, meaning they were either stopped at stat tweaking or changing the gun mechanics.

Tweaking is important and all, but if that was all they were working on, it would have been out last year, or January. Mechanics changes, I can see that possibly taking a while.

But then they released the Tortodrone sneak peek.

While there's a good possibility that they could work on them at the same time, adding items and modifying the gun mechanics can't take more than 3 months unless they've actually put it on the backburner for something more important or huge game-changing mechanics are part of the gunner update.

I'm iffy on the gunner update being a huge game-changer, so I'm leaning more towards arcade redux/boss stratum as the more likely reasons behind the delays.

They could also be working on the challenge mode every single forumer forgot/doesn't care about.

Yeah, that's a possibility.

I foresee challenge mode as either another reincarnation of Blast Network or Prestige missions, in terms of role ._.

...unless there are things other than spikes, wheels, switches, and fire lol.

Arcade Redux is certainly the better of the two and a lot more to look forward to, it's just that the Gunner Update was at least closer to being released and was more at the front of our minds. Plus, it's still content. Not exactly playable content, but enough mechanical content to tide a lot of people over until the Redux hits.

Also, this may just be me, but I'm starting to get the feeling that both updates have been merged together. OOO has a rather bad habit of making really big updates as opposed to smaller ones and I wouldn't be surprised if they went that route here.

I'm just curious what they're planning at this point. It wouldn't hurt to let us in on some of the details, especially with this drought of new playable content we're having. Get the community excited and talking about it all again.

"- A sandbox-type experience where unexpected things can happen"

So, does this mean the Arcade is becoming a roguelike?

Would the Tortodrone fall under the Gunner or Arcade one? From the picture, it seems they're already mostly done, and are just testing out the mechanics.

Tortodrone would definitely be Arcade.

What I want to know about, is where is the noise for that new T3 Boss, that is post-vanguard.

That'd be pretty amazing! Finding gear along the road and whatnot but just losing it all at the end would be tons of fun, in my opinion.

<- This guy would be totally psyched for an arcade redux.

Or any update really.

Anyone remember the flop that was Duke Nukem3D? They took so long with the game that the hype actually died with the generation that wanted it, as the company tried to do everything at once and not focus on one quality product.

I really hope that isn't what kills this game.

Anyway guns have plenty of power, and swords dominate them as far as sheer explosive damage output - as it should be.

I'm just gona gobble up the minerals in clockworks runs with the party open in hopes to meet new people and get to play in the sandbox. Should be fun!

Well with Nick gone, and only

Well with Nick gone, and only the gunner update seemingly confirmed by admins, it's hard to say anything about arcade redux. From the looks of things it all seems to be in the drawing board except for the gunner update, which, differently from the other talked about content, seems to be actively being worked on. I think that's why the gunner update is getting more exposure, because it seems to be the closest upcoming thing for the game compared to that other stuff, which feels to me like it's in heavy and expansive development and planning. I could see it coming round in a year assuming the idea hasn't been scrapped or repurposed for minor arcade modification.

Tortodrone is part of an Arcade Redux. Also I'll send you some in-game mail about the arcade redux for reasons I cannot discuss on the forums.

For people who think that the

For people who think that the arcade redux is in the "drawing up" part of the process... it's not. If you dig through SK files you'll find that even the models for the new boss levels are done, the new token and lots more. And honestly the new guns are just remodels of the existing ones which have new status slapped onto them or damage type which I can't see them working on for so long. This sort of means that they are working on the arcade redux at the same time as the gunner update(or want to release it at the same time). Also fun fact, everyone forgot about the new gunner sets(armours and helms) which are also supposed to be in the gunner update(which aren't in the game files yet)

Sounds like the arcade is turning into some sort of arena in which a lot of types of enemies can spawn at once (Vana + RJ + RT at once pl0x.)

respect is earned not given.

This might be all very obvious to you but I'll say it anyway. Expect the radiant problem to me solved in the Arcade Redux. How else does OOO expect to revive the Arcade? Do you really think people will run Arcade more than FSC just to beat Tortodone over and over again. Remember those set piece things you only come across randomly in the Arcade? That got old quick. Danger missions got old quick. The only way to get more people doing Arcade runs will be to make it so that you have the best chance of getting the most radiants from an Arcade run.

Sorry if this has all been mentioned before in here.

The arcade redux can solve SK.

Think of it this way. Before Arcade Redux part 1 and after, even before the mission update, the progression of this game has always hinged around tier clearance. Getting from T2 to T3. More recently it's also been getting from 4* to 5*. Before the mission update it was less of a problem, because you could just keep doing what you had already been doing and get enough money eventually. But, ever since missions, the main focus of the game has been progressing though the suddenly vey linear story. The progression walls that kind of made sense before missions now were a very noticeable stopping point in the story. To progress past them, you had to either pay money, replay the exact same mission over and over again, or run the arcade. But the arcade, which was supposed to be the kind of freeform exploration place, has two major problems.

One: Lack of content and uniqueness. Many of the mission levels are just reorganized clockworks levels. This makes it feel like there's no reason to do the arcade over missions, and it makes it feel more like grinding because half the time you're playing either a Compounds or a Clockworks Tunnels variant. Apart from boss levels, the only new levels have been Compounds... For over a year.

Two: Payout. No one wants to play the arcade when two levels of Royal Jelly Palace pays more than a Stratum 5 run and takes half as long.

If the arcade redux part II fixes both of these things, it could not only make the arcade less boring, but solve the problem of the paywalls at Halls of Heroes by making the Arcade a fun, interesting, viable place to play when you run out of missions.
