Not spoiling anyone or anything, but I think some of us (including me) know what's going to be in the update.
But how big is the update really? We know there is supposed to be new guns and armors, maybe some rebalancing.
But how big is it really?
I'm not pointing fingers nor doubting the power the devs have, but let's all put on our tin-foil thinking caps for a minute and speculate if it really needed all the time it's taken up till now. Arcade Redux aside, how much time would need to be set aside to implement just "New Gear"? I mean we've generated 21 seperate new items from Apocrea, Mt. Winterfest Double Death 2000, and Torto-moan update. What's another 21 or so right?
Did we really need 5 months, or can I rest snug with my hot cocoa bomb knowng OOO is putting it off (for better or worse) till the last possible moment to keep you here on your feet 24/7 knowing every knight is going to be raptured into kingdom come like Nick less the game starts raining guns out of the core like prismatic bolted vees.
Feel free to disagree with me.
Or not.
If we are to believe what they are saying, the gun update features balance changes among all the new toys. This may include much more than tweaking a couple of damage values, I'm willing to bet, as the main issue seems to be the mechanics of the guns themselves. How does one buff Iron Slug to make it on par with how Nick imagined it to be? How does one fix the Alchemers to be more consistent? How does one make a Pepperbox more favorable than Blitz? What are the armors going to look like? What are they going to do? How are they going to be balanced with the rest of gunslinger armor? Are their aesthetics suitable for this game? Do old weapons fall victim to power creep? How do we stop that?
Or, if they're not working too hard on any of the above, chances are they're more likely than not emphasizing focus on the Arcade Redux and Rank Mission Rework.
