Mhmm.
Gonna need Thin to review my Morai app too.
Return to Cradle 2 Discussion Thread (apps open)
@Ultimaknightz: Nathan acquires this power in his eyes and gets to use it. He later tries to activate it again with no success. He soon discovers that, while it sometimes activates on his command, it doesn't always. No matter how hard he tries, it never works consistently. It turns out that he derives this power from another spirit, whom he inadvertently bonded with (I'll touch more on that in your intro).
In practice, Nathan should occasionally try to activate the power, and I will decide when it works. Sometimes, I will activate it without any input from you.
Also, Gwen severed the bond with her avatar (intentionally this time). That avatar was Freya, Queen of the Valkyries. So Gwen is now isolated to her physical existence (that being the Core). Sonosuke had it right. ^_^
Speaking of the Core, the shell was opened 30 years ago, so the energy being (Gwen) living inside it can now move around freely, which she is undoubtedly taking advantage of.
@Edolas: App accepted!
Actually, when I had created Nathan, my backstory went like this: So Nathan is given this ability through inheritance(which I stated), as he is a direct heir to the power, for he was chosen amongst all those in his bloodline. This power is inadvertently awakened when his sister was killed before his eyes, and he mercilessly kills the assassins with his control over Primordial light and darkness. However, as this was when this power was uncontrollable, he is forced to watch as the power he controls kills his own parents. This leaves him scarred, and he vows to control this power as well as to stay distant from others in order to prevent such a tragic incident from occurring ever again.
He later tried to activate it again whilst in a forest, but finds that it is still as uncontrollable as it was before. He then destroys everything within a 3 kilometre radius around him with a pillar of light and darkness erupting from the ground, before he collapses from trying to combat the power with his will after regaining control of his body. He realizes that if he uses its complete power and if he succumbs to it, it will slowly alter his personality so that he will only wish for destruction. So Nathan, after a few failed tries, manages to limit its power through the use of a golden ring on his finger. Nathan gets better at controlling the light and darkness, but is still fearful of releasing its actual power.
The reason I want Nathan to have his own power and control it slightly is to create the atmosphere that Nathan has an immense power that has brought him many deaths before, but he is reluctant to use it. This relates well to his character, and still allows him to keep his fighting style. However, if we create the atmosphere that he has this immense power that actually comes from another being, and that he has trouble activating this ability, then his entire fighting style and character comes crashing down. I may not have expanded much on this, but his fighting style relies on the use of light and darkness, especially when fighting an opponent who can use magic. Also, the whole point of him having this distant personality and yet this air of being able to protect someone would be completely diminished.
I may have a suitable compromise, though. If we are to have a spirit who had inadvertently bonded with Nathan, it would be best for that spirit to be the one who had given him the golden ring on his finger that suppressed his powers. That would be the best option for both of us. It would create the air that the spirit is needed because it had prevented him from becoming a heartless monster, and Nathan would still have his own power, allowing him to retain his original atmosphere.
P.S
You still haven't answered my other questions. :P They can be found here.
The second question was intentionally left unanswered, as it was rather difficult to approach. Remind me again tomorrow?
The third question was sorta answered in a roundabout way through the prior discussions. Gwen no longer occupied the body of her avatar (cutting off that meeting), and I already have plans for her to meet Nathan, which are messed up by your backstory. So that question can't exactly be answered in full yet (which is why I didn't respond to it earlier).
When Gwen bonds with her avatar, the avatar's abilities are boosted, and it receives some (though not all) of her unique abilities. Coincidentally, that's exactly what your 'Eyes of God' do for Nathan. So I was thinking that Gwen is the spirit that he bonds with, and that she is the source of the 'Eyes of God' powers. Since he's obviously not her type (she prefers to bond to females with similar personalities), the bonding would have to be accidental.
Concerning the compromise:
Nathan has an immense power - in fact, his power governs the two main opposing forces of the universe: Primordial Darkness and Primordial Light. It has power so great that it can only be entrusted to one who has the soul of the legendary 'Hero'. There are two conditions to be met: They must have the appropriate soul, and they must have descended from the original wielder with a pure bloodline.
Gwen, as the core incarnate, naturally has the abilities of using plasma(in this case, fire), and she has a multitude of other abilities as well.
Gwen can bond with her avatar to boost his/her abilities, whilst giving them more abilities.
Nathan already has power. However, Nathan's power is extremely hard to control.
Perhaps Gwen makes a ring that she intended to restrain someone's powers. However, Nathan stumbles upon it accidentally, and wears it. He finds that it manages to restrain his powers - and he uses it from then on. Anyhow, Gwen notices that the ring she created is gone. She tracks its location(as it has her energy signature) and finds that it is worn by a person with a power from the gods. This intrigues her, and she confronts him.
I believe that this is a good solution. :P
I think I'm going to start calling Ultima "Venny-boy," for the sake of one I lost as a game ended abruptly. Or Raic. Meh.
I don't think it's fair to the other players to let Nathan be preselected as a 'legend' or 'Hero', particularly as he didn't have to work for it like the other players have. In fact, the goal of the game is to kill the 'legendary' characters (White Council members); Nathan's powers would likely have put him and his ancestors on the Council, which would essentially plant a giant target on his head.
White Council members don't get much screen time here.
I don't think it's a good compromise for either of us.
It appears you have a small misconception.
Nathan is not a 'legend' himself; rather, he has a power that is 'legendary'. So basically, it's not that he is a legend, but rather that he has the abilities of one. However, the abilities of a legend alone do not make someone a legend. To become a legend one requires not only the ability of one, but the patience and heart to do something legendary.
Also, many believe that his powers are but a myth. However, this is not the only reason that he is not being hunted. His ancestors have also died, meaning that the one who can use the Eyes of God changes. Furthermore, since his powers do not stem from the Core - or any spirit. This is unthinkable for many, and thus it relates to the first point; they believe that his powers are but a myth.
I think the compromise I offered works well. But if you can offer a compromise that still allows Nathan to have his ocular ability without any external aid(basically what I suggested), I'd be happy to hear it.
So that's the non-negotiable element in play here. I was wondering about that.
See though, your reasoning around Nathan's powers is kind of implausible IMO. First off, in order for a power to be legendary, it needs to be...you know, 'legendary', or well-known in-universe.
It isn't.
Other arcane powers, like telepathic bonding and various types of summoning, are well-known and legendary because they've been used repeatedly throughout multiple RPs. You can't just say, "It's legendary!" and expect everyone to believe you.
"...his powers do not stem from the Core - or any spirit. This is unthinkable for many..."
^Hardly anybody in-universe thinks that deeply. As far as anyone else is concerned, powers can come from a wide variety of sources. The only people you're going to shock with that kind of information are students of the arcane, which most people aren't. Gwen is probably the only one (see Return to Cradle: Origins). Most other people just use their powers without studying them.
Furthermore, attributing the 'Eyes of God' to Gwen's possession of Nathan still makes sense in-universe. See, the reason she prefers bonding with people who have similar personalities is because they are easier to control. If she bonds with someone like Nathan who has a very different personality, control becomes a chore. In fact, depending on the individual situation, Gwen might find the bond working in reverse, with Nathan controlling her instead of vice-versa. The end result is that Nathan cannot fully control his power, which is precisely the effect you wanted out of it.
But we don't have to do this. I can find other uses for Gwen. But I was hoping to have Nathan's power be more than just a "look at me, I'm so awesome!" gimmick.
@Ultimaknightz
And you did say "rumors of the 'God Slayer'"
So he would be legendary by default.

Playing Skullgirls, reminds me of how sad Sienna "Squigly" Continello's story is. I cry every time I play it.
Dexmina's name is actually my name mixed up with an x added. Sneaky, Huh?
Truth; or a little white lie that makes us all feel better inside?
I feel as though this RP is starting to die already. Which saddens me since Sir Snarble hasn't even been taken out yet.
Not dead, but getting close. I have the feeling Thin has writers block :L (NOT CONFIRMED)
Although you may need an Anagram maker to figure out what my name is.
But that aside, Right now the forums are just kinda... Turning into inactive goop.
Oh so only a day later and you think this is dying?! That's so cynical. O_o
That's why I made my RP, might make a guild dedicated to the Treasure Vault...should help a bit.
YOu might want to just go ahead and start the Story Thread so that way we can get it going. At least we can get some story in and maybe like Thinslayer you will get more people as the story goes on.
I am a Kuudere.
This might take a while... Three bloody Story threads.
THREE.
Affraiel: "OH, OH, OH!!!"
Elzilia: "What is wrong old man?!"
Affraiel: "OHHHHHH!!!"
Elzilia: "Oh my sweet val'sor! Affraiel is having a heart attack!!! Ursulan! Get over here! We need some medical help!"
Ursulan: "Ugh... okay... are you sure Affraiel is having a heart attack?"
Affraiel: "Of course not you idiots! I was just about to say something that is all!"
Elzilia: "Okay, what was it that you have to say?"
Affraiel: "OhhhHhh!!! Another RP thread is on life support!!! Damn it GWEN! Oh, for all those out there that cares about the awesome story Midnight is writting, go check out the special investigator thread and see the progress my buddy Serris and his assassin girlfriend are making! WOOO!!!"
Serris: "She is not my girlfriend!"
The Curse of Thin.
If ever an RP is created by Thinslayer, tis doomed to never find completion.
Thin made two successful RPs. I give him that. ;-;
Can't remember the second. First was Return to Cradle.
Wait. If Blesse's fire is so hot it's invisible, wouldn't that sorta make her burn through the ground?
Dirt is amasing thing, it won't burn threw, but it will start to melt. Remember its made of tiny rocks. And at some point they where part of bigger rocks. Now I am not 100% sure but I would venture to say that if Blesse stood still too long yes, the dirt would start to get magmatic.
Thin I have a question: Is the Vlog creature some kinda Parasite? If it is, since Blesse is naturally atune to fire might she be at risk of getting one stuck inside her. IDK I was thinking since she is able to control fire, perhaps she would be a good conductor of this sort of thing. I should ask you more in a PM but for right now mind if I ask these questions.
Vog is a spirit capable of possessing other beings or manifesting himself in physical form.
Ah, thank you.
Also I sent you a message via PM. Also a Admin sent me a message, why did no one tell me I was cursing too much :L
Damnit, you put me on a spot :L I don't think I could make something epic. The best she could do would be to extingush all the flames around her causing a sudden change in air preasure...Well that or send fire at him and quickly kill it causing the air around the two of them to shift to fill the void left behind making a shockwave large enough (depending on the flames) to do a lot of damage to them both...
You actually don't need to do anything epic just yet. Find a way to pin Sir Snarble to the ground so Blesse is physically close to him. He has something really important to say before he dies.
Well damn, which I would have read this before hand. Now Snarble is kinda in the middle of a Shock-wave fest with him being center stage :L
And yes I did phrase it like that to show how much damage sound can really do to the human body.
Do the others get notified now that Sir Snarble is dead? Like a missing silhouette of him from the Minimap or a blipping noise?
Not unless they are on the same level. But the problem is she is in need of a medic as quick as possible.
Would it happen to Sono if he was passing by the depth on the way up?
Unless you heard the message or just decided to stop. YOu would just keep going, remember those elevator's are a one way trip up in most cases.
Freya is Gwen's host body, but Gwen left it. I think. Gonna need Thin to clarify this.
EDIT:
@Colray Anguis has already burrowed into the ground at that point, so Luke is striking at nothing.
