Discuss, it's obviously that we are anouther being, far far away from the nearest human. There is no chance that knights are humans, but rather, other beings.

We're pretty much anything until we get some concrete lore that says otherwise.

-autonomous robots
-ghosts controlling suits of armor
-tiny things piloting giant suits
-jell-O encased in armor
-something completely different hiding behind an elaborate cloaking device

Pick one.

Or more than one. We could be ghost robot jell-O dragons for all anyone knows.

The knights are for all practical purposes, human.

Kind of like how Doctor Who is a human. No, he isn't technically a human... but for all practical purposes, he behaves like a human with "additional properties".

Well, for starters they are humanoid, possess all known senses and have varying personalities and traits. Because of this they are easy to empathize with as if they were fellow humans, and for all practical purposes might as well be.

The only thing we know is that they seem to hail from a place called "Isora", presumably their home planet. (I forget whether this was specified or not.) So I suppose we could call them Isorans?

Knights are not humans.

They are knights, and if we use the wiki definition of what knights are e.g. how they have hair and are warm blooded we could say with some certainty that they are mammals.

Assuming they are mammals would mean knights while not really humans are in a way like humans.

Also, where are these theories about knights being robots being controlled by a smaller creature come from?

Spiral Knights are cats.

All Spiral Knights are actually cats. It's not even a secret. I just walk down Haven and there is a cat, there is a cat, he's a cat, she's a cat, they are cats, your a cat, I'm a cat! I could link a picture of my true cat form if it wasn't broken and not showing anything right now...

Anyways, there really are just so many cat Knights in this game. OOO is simply supporting the cause by making the OP stuff (Black Kat Cowl) and fancy accessories (Cat Tails) all cat-like.

Oh yeah, Seraphynx.

The wiki is the wiki, you can't trust it.

From what I know, players made the lore. There is no proof that any of that is right, except for some parts.

Don't use the wiki for all your assumtions, unless you can find proof that it is true

Wiki. Then verified in game.

There are multiple items that describe knights. I have compiled multiple items that describe knight physical features.

Cooling cell's item description says: "A small device used in complex machines to keep them from overheating. Also handy to keep in your pockets on hot summer days." there for, arguably they are warm blooded.

Phial of Phear's item description: "A glass tube containing a small dose of phearium, a strange chemical said to induce panic into anyone who even gets so much as a whiff of the stuff." there for they can smell.

Vita Suit Deluxe's item description says: "High-tech mail that provides the wearer with myriad medical boons, including bonus health, glossier hair, and fresher breath." there for they have hair and mouths.

Enamorock's item description: "A strange stone that makes you have warm and fuzzy feelings inside just by holding it." arguably knights can feel emotions.

Warp Dust's item description: "A light dust left behind when a creature travels at unbelievable speed. It tastes great in dip." they eat.

Fused Demo Helm's item description: "An upgraded Demo Helm fused dangerously with the unstable core from a powerful Blast Cube. It produces an unpleasant hum in your ears." they can hear.

Behold, the evil squares take over the world!

I never said that everything on the wiki is false, we all know that all living creatures need:

To breath

To eat

To drink

Shelter

-----

They probably don't have hair just on their head, they probably actually have it all over their body like most mammals, that is probably the most likely place they could have hair, but I could be wrong

As for accessory hair, that is fake hair. How would someone be able to grow real hair over their armor?

5Pi, lies!

-Creatures do not necessarily need to breath to stay alive. What about underwater? They don't breath, but automatically filter the water.
-Creatures also don't necessarily have to eat. Plants simply convert things into energy, avoiding the messy process of putting stuff into your mouth and crushing it about a hundred times before forcing it down your gullet.
-Ditto with shelter. Because, y'know, bacteria totally need to go to a house during the night.

Also, if you claim that knights most likely have hair all over the body, don't also say they don't have any on their head. Have you ever seen a bald bear?

Wow, just, wow

*Facepalms at all of Sandwich's examples, which nothing there has anything to do with knights*

-Knights have nothing to do with fish, if they were, they would be dead.
-When I say eat and drink, I mean energy basicly. Knights don't have anything to do with plants either
-You seriously fail right now on guessing what knights are. Bacteria use living things as their shelter.
-Of course they have equal amounts of hair on their head as on their body, did I say they didn't?

-Says who? You don't have any proof that Isora was not an aquatic-based planet that eventually developed into a more terraform one that caused natural evolution to produce legs. Heck, the eyes could be bio-luminescence, a memento from spending eons in gloomy depths where the sun don't shine. Earth is a prime example of aquatic to not-so-aquatic.
-Also no proof. I could say that the knights are secretly walking talking plants that evolved into sentient beings. There's no way to disprove me, as there isn't exactly much canon dealing with that topic.
-Right, because bacteria on Mars totally used each other as shelter.
-Huh, I guess I read that part wrong. However, I still tend to disagree, as you'd think the hair would show THROUGH the armor, if it's thick and bushy enough to be noticeably glossier enough to include as a little advertisement.

Also, knights and humans share SEVERAL similar characteristics:

-General anatomy. Two arms, two legs, same general body in terms of flesh and such, two eyes, etc.
-Sentience.
-A language that seems more word-based than body language.
-Written documentary. Sprite naming by Rhendon, Alpha Squad logs, etc.
-Sarcasm, as indicated by some Recon Knights.
-Finger positioning, as they have opposable thumbs.
-Able to travel via Shank's mare.
-Technology; communicators are a good example.
-Intelligence; able to figure out that the Cautery Sword is bad in damage. Well, most of us. More seriously, how to enhance our combat capabilities and reason enemy battle tactics.
-Economy; quickly able to figure out the Stranger's method of exchanging with crowns.
-Honor; Arkus had his Guardian Oath.
-Recklessness; those noobs in T3 Prestige Rescue missions.
-Generosity; the Prestige mission where you donate some spare stuff indicates that the knights are not so ruthless as it appears to those random Beasts trying to defend their home turf.
-Curiosity; they explore the world, partly out of need to escape, partly out of curiosity. 'Today, I am going to leave my bed! I SHALL VENTURE TO THE ARMORY AND DON MY ARMOR!'

And a lot more.

-The creatures that evolved from the ocean evolved to have lungs, not gills. If they did, they would still be in the water
-Plant's don't have hair, mammals are the only known type to have hair, unless they are some kind of unknown type to us
-There is a diffrence between a plain amoeba and bacteria. As a matter of fact, Mars may not even have bacteria but only amobea, just a thought. /mutters to self, it's not like knights are amoeba or bacteria anyway
-Yet they have diffrences in body shape, hands are different, feet are stubby, and more
-Probably every intelligent lifeform has most of those

-They could still have gills,

-They could still have gills, but they would have been DEAD, and then technology was used to revive them so they could die an infinite amount of times
-Peaches have hair. Well, it's fuzz, but it's close enough.
-Correct. How could we have hinges AND be single-celled?
-I think the hands are pretty similar, other than the color and MAYBE the material. Speculation here.

Oh yeah Poomph?

Vaelyn is purple. GM's are associated with purple.

VAELYN IS A GM IN DISGUISE TO SEE HOW MANY PEOPLE ACTUALLY GO TO THE COREEEEE!

5Pi:

-Oxygen tanks anyone? Just me? Maybe those Mist Tanks were converted for other uses? No?
-Plants have hair. Take a look at the Venus Fly Trap, which possesses trigger hairs. Also, trichomes.
-Says who that knights couldn't be a collective mass of bacteria as a swarm? Schools of fish are an example of cooperation for survival. Scientific scanners on Mars detected BACTERIA, the prokariotic stuff, not amoeba, the eurykariotic stuff.
-Considering the trillions of different creatures on Earth with widely varying anatomy, I'd be surprised if an extraterrestrial within this galaxy had binocular vision, exactly two hands and legs, ten toes and fingers, sentience, and everything else I described. The similarities are astounding, considering the likelihood of life, especially SENTIENT life developing on Earth.
-Sharks. Or if you think they're stupid, orcas.

I miss understood the topic. Knights are defiantly not humans, they are Isorans (or whatever kind of "Isora" with some weird suffix.)

Now listen here...

All that we can say is that knights are living creatures that have many characteristics alike to humans, and so appear humanoid. Of course they aren't humans, because they don't come from earth, and the way their life is sustained by their suits. Apart from that, you can go ahead and fantasize anything about knights, as long as it makes any kind of sense. I like reading everyone's imaginations. What I don't like reading is people arguing like this forum thread.

The new Celestial costumes give some room for speculation.

They are transparent, and it can obviously be seen that there's no body inside.

It adds some ground to my long-term suspicion that Knights are just heads which can be attached to different armors.

There are some additional things which could confirm this idea:

1) Ghosts are known to reproduce the physical shape of person they were in living. Knights' ghosts... well, you know how Lost Souls look like.

2) E-class Battle Sprites also look that way (an orb with eyes, or, actually, head). It's quite natural for some race to create robots which resemble themselves. A human's first idea of a robot would be an android, you know.

In reply to Ryheen

When knights take enough damage, they lie on the ground, requiring - before the energy and revive overhaul - another knight to share their health with them so they could continue, or a revive using energy, which would power their suit. This lead me to believe that knights are kinda fragile creatures that rely on their suits for movement and other physical actions. They don't exactly need their armor to LIVE, but they use the suits as an external object to aid them. I never found this anywhere, my thoughts had just led themselves here by thinking.

I like to imagine that knights are just mechanical suits that are controlled by something else somewhere else, either a person on another planet, or a non-physical, conscious being that created their suit and so it seems that someone is wearing the armor. Although, for practical purposes, it's better to think that knights are humanoid creatures that actually don the armor that we see.

I don't want to get in an argument with anyone, either, Ryheen.

EDIT: I like your speculations, Jendar-Nox. It made me think, and it shows your creativity and attention to detail.

Thanks Shadow-Warlock.

Thank you for clarifying Shadow-Warlock. After reading your explanation about knights I got thinking and have come up with two theories based off of yours and one of my own.

#1: A knight's armor is a tool they requires energy to power up and provide defense or, like certain specialist armor, direct the energy into the knight's weapons. After sustaining a critical amount of damage the armor shorts out and enters a "safety mode" to protect the knight from further harm. This "safety mode" can be overwritten by manually applying energy or by having another knight transfer some of their armor's energy into their fallen squad mate. (In this theory I assume that we have the old energy system.)

#2: What if knight's have used their armor so much they have become almost completely dependent on it?

#3: Knights are humanoid creatures that without their armor live like humans live. Their armor is made to increase survivability in hostile environments and improve their ability to eliminate hostile creatures.

@Jendar-Nox. I like the theory the only part I feel is slightly off is the lost souls. Are you talking about the lost souls in the Apocrian mission or the ones that are found in the clock-works and try to kill you?

Well, considering all player characters of the Knight class, with the exception of reclassed Manaketes and Taguel, are human, I'd say Knights are human.
