I currently have NO intention in paying for this game so early ( i was thinking about it, but all of the energy advertisements are a turn off, and i usually pay for games i play)

So for me this is going to be a wait to play game? only play 2 hours worth of dungeons every 24 hours? I obviously cant afford 5k per myst energy to be able to continue playing the amount i want too.

How do you guys play? do you just spend money and advance until you're higher than everyone else and you can settle / slow down and wait for new content once you have you're 5* equips?

I also am about to craft my first 2* sword item. 50 energy, ... WHAT are you kidding me? I had to spend energy to get crowns and mats, spend crowns to get swordstones because i didnt have any in my inventory, didnt want to farm them because i would have spent another 30+ energy just getting the items, and now i have to wait to get energy back so i can craft a sword... a sword....

I plan on crafting everything i use. (i dont like buying items when i can craft them)

ridiculous. unless im looking at the game from a different angle then you guys. Any tips on how to be more efficient with my energy?

Buying your 2* equipment

Buying your 2* equipment would be much more efficient. If you don't want to do that just because you want to craft it yourself that's a limit you're placing on yourself.

Sell your materials on the AH to make some extra money. Even in T1 you should be able to make more than 5k per 100 energy.

Try to aim for arenas, and don't skip danger rooms.

Don't revive yourself if the cost is 10+ energy.

Join a party. They can revive with half of their HP, you won't have to spend anything to revive yourself.

Get to Tier 2 as soon as possible. Doing jelly runs is really good money and more than pays for 100 energy.

Yeah, for new players, there

Yeah, for new players, there are a few basic tips to always keep in mind:

  1. You're in the first part of the game (tier 1), but the profitable part is the "second half" of a tier. In this case, try to keep playing until you reach floor 8, as you get more crowns when you reach the deeper floors.
  2. Revive at most twice, or three times since you are in the first tier. Remember that each floor costs 10 energy, so there's a certain point where reviving is less worth it than just starting over.

I've been F2P all the way up

I've been F2P all the way up to 3* and some 4* gear. I just bought a little bit of CE to support the game now that I've played long enough to know that I enjoy it. But I made it all the way through T1 and close to T3 without paying a dime. I haven't had any problems playing, so obviously you CAN get somewhere as a F2P player. I also crafted all of my gear, but after a few updates to the AH, it seems you can just buy 2* gear for way cheaper than the material, recipe, and CE cost of crafting your own.

So, take it from someone who has played free until a point where I could sustain a respectable profit from dungeons, it IS possible.

But, do NOT revive at all, instead refine your technique. Time your attacks and dodge / shield when the enemy swings, then swing at them once they finish. 100 CE currently costs ~5,000 crowns, which means every dungeon (10 CE to enter) costs ~500 crowns. To go through all six levels of Tier 1 will cost 60 CE, or 3,000 crowns. The earlier levels, you will not likely earn 500 crowns to cover the cost of entrance, so you'll have to make up for the difference in the later levels, and every time you revive you increase that threshhold to be able to make profit.

Also, don't let your party rush ahead without exploring. If anybody wants to rush through a level without maximizing their revenue, they're playing the game wrong.

I dont mind paying at a certain point. but if they expect me to dish out 3 hours into playing then thats ridiculous.

It wasn't too clear (rather, hidden at the end of a post) but basically, when you get to Tier 2 (armor, helm, shield, and at least one weapon 2* or higher), you can play and get enough money (arenas and challenge rooms are super good) to buy CE in-game using crowns.

Aside from me crafting his shield, my brother got to Tier 2 by his 2nd day. He can play to his heart's content now.

When I started, it was during school, so I'd play, then go do HW, then go to sleep and repeat lol. It was so convenient having a limit on my play time because otherwise I'd play forever and bad things would happen to my grades, I thought.

..then I got to T2 and discovered jelly runs and reselling recipes for profit.

When you just start out you

When you just start out you cannot play as much as you want for free.
The way to play more for free is, as others here have said, learn to earn more than 5000cr with your free 100me and use it to buy ce.
Crafting will seriously slow you down though.

I have crafted most of my gear and I only play for free but I don't have the time to play all day so the limits don't bug me too much. Usually right after I craft something I need to not play for a bit to recharge. Though I still "play" in that I work the auction house, try to find crafting jobs from other players, sell the occasional material to another player, etc. If you consider this part of the game then you can play 24/7 for free.

It doesn't take a deeper Tier

You can play indefinitely on crown-bought crystal energy in T1... just don't die, or at least, don't rez for energy. If you can't make it without dying, go in parties where someone will rez you (they get a portion of your heat, so there's good incentive to raise you, while you collect crowns and materials even while laying there dead.)

If you can complete T1 top to bottom, you should be able to buy crystal energy for crowns faster than you are using energy. Not a -lot- faster, and it would take a lot of runs to accumulate much in the way of crowns directly, -but-, you can sell all the materials you collect, because you're going to go to the auction house and check the prices on the 2* and 3* gear that you think you want, and see if you can buy it for below the cost of crafting. If you are patient enough to buy 3* outright (and it's available for less than the cost of crafting), you'll be in a good position to run T2 top to bottom.

OTOH, 3* stuff isn't on nearly the kind of fire-sale that 2* stuff is, so you may not be able to find deeply discounted 3* items, but take a look anyway.

Anyhow, it may take you 1.5 T1 runs (top to bottom and down to the terminal again) to afford a block of 100 crystal energy, but that's 90 energy expended and now you can buy 100 and have crowns leftover, -and- you can access the crystal energy market from any level so you can continue your run after buying energy for crowns and get that profitable bottom-half again.

I don't agree with 'never revive for energy' though. If you are early in the level, paying 5 energy to get the other 3/4ths of the level is better than paying 10 energy to start over. If you are in the bottom half of a tier (and not the last level of it) paying 10 energy to continue is better than going back to the poorly paying top half. More than that is not strictly worthwhile in crowns, I think, and unless you have energy to waste on things like 'I want to get to Basil' or 'I need more practice fighting greavers' then don't revive for more than 10 ce.

Senshi has a point about

Senshi has a point about reviving, and is hinting at something I was trying to hint at as well. Revive if you feel it will be profitable to do so, though it is still better to just not die so much ;)

Even better, you shouldn't have to worry about reviving if you are in a party. Just wait for players to come by and revive you. And you SHOULD play with a full party regardless! The difficulty (and crowns dropped) increases for each player in your party, and all crowns and heat picked up by any player are shared with the entire party. So you'll end up earning more crowns per dungeon with 3 other players, than you would playing by yourself.

hehe lol. Well that's an option too. I remember giving in paying for the cheapest as well and that really gave me a nice boost. After you master the game a bit, progress further to tier 2, making profit will be easier. A tip, try to make use of the market. The auction house is a good way of earning money.

Succes on getting better with the game!

@aeolianmode

Not really since there hasn't change much for the beginners.
