Sleep status redux

Firstly, don't tell me to move the thread to suggestions or point out that others have said things vaguely similar because I don't really care that much.

My idea is that the status of sleep should be returned to the game. I don't know why it was removed ( if someone knows please tell me) but apart from that one slight mishap with the sloombargo floor I never got to experience it. I figure armours could be adapted slightly to give sleep res or something but that isn't important right now.

Along side the reinstatement of sleep, new enemies could be added such as sleep zombies, gorgos or kats. I think since we still have sleep vials then players would adapt pretty quick and some new sleep weapons would be great.

Imagine my personal dream of a weapon, an alchemer with a sleep status doing normal or maybe elemental damage like any other but with the chance of making you're enemies sleep. The 'sweet dreamer' as I would have it called could be just one of many weapons with the new old status.

000 could even reintroduce it in a big event to rake in as much cash as possible from us players.

I think it would be really great to bring back. Any feedback or suggestions for other weapon/gear is appreciated.

Well, I've heard it was

Well, I've heard it was removed because of 1) How broken it was, it's basically being frozen but you can't do anything and in tier 3 falling asleep would be the last thing you would want to happen since everything there can kill you in a couple of hits / seconds and you don't wake up when hit.
2) It was used as a way of healing one's self since when you fell asleep you regained health. (Not certain about this because, like I said, it's just what I've heard but I know for certain monsters get healed when asleep)

Also players with sleep inducing weapons would make Lockdown hell.

Move to suggestions. It's been suggested before.

The reason it's taken out is because it was horribly broken. If you were hit by a Sloom and fell asleep, you could not do a THING for 8 seconds. In Tier 3, a monster can kill you in half that time. And when you took damage you didn't wake up.

Plus Sleep is worse than Freeze because it makes monsters regenerate health.

"( if someone knows please tell me)"

It was removed it was outright broken. Imagine freeze, except you can't do anything, and getting hit doesn't get rid of the status. On top of that, there were very few armors in the game that had Sleep resistance, making it not only the least resisted status in the game, but also the most potent.

EDIT: Oh yeah, on the other hand, it could be abused, making it the most helpful status in the game (probably should have remembered that).

There was never really a middle for the Sleep status, whether it was being abused for its healing properties or being too overpowered due to it making your knight completely useless, it was always just broken.

Think 'Shock' but with a permanent spasm and an abusable healing mechanic.

All of you have said how

All of you have said how broken it is pretty much. I'm not saying reintroduce it the way it was because obviously they got rid of it for a reason however I still think it could be salvaged as a concept. Maybe by changing the effect of sleep to be drifting in and out of it like shock, but slightly differently. Don't you people want a challenging monster every once in a while?

How? We'd have to rework all the armors to reintroduce Sleep status, Plate Mail would become even more unused, etc.

Let's see how Sleep could've worked in Spiral Knights.

- Slowed down. Too bad stun.
- Dozing off. Too bad broken like it is right now.
- Visually impaired. Zeddy said something about alts or something, dunno where he said it, but hey, it's Zeddy.

A challenging monster? Those don't exist in Spiral Knights anymore besides Fiends in general (and that's only because most people don't have experience fighting them). And besides, a single status won't make a monster more deadly than, say, a Silversap. Dem Silversaps tho.

I want to see sleep again.

It would be nice to see a status that is punishing for those who don't resist it (other than curse). Add a sleep weakness to chaos and you've got the start of balance. Add sleep resistance to one of the new gunner sets or onto the kat hoods to spread the resistance around.

Sleep's health regeneration should be neglectable. Players simply don't gain enough health back to merit it being overpowered.

If I were to rework sleep, I would make it work as follows:

  • Give short durations
  • Similar to stun, this can have a shorter base duration than other statuses. Instead of lasting a base of 5 seconds in tier 3, have it last a base of 3 seconds.

  • Wake the player up
  • After the player takes X amount of damage or sleep's timer runs out, they wake up, but suffer from MSD and ASD medium for two seconds as they are groggy.

  • Heal players earlier, and revamp the healing
  • Make players gain a quarter of a pip after 2 seconds and have it stay at a constant .25 pips per tick.

  • Damage reduction
  • When players are asleep, they take 15% less damage from attacks, and the status cannot be reapplied.

Also, yes please to a sleepy promotion. Give us a nightcap accessory, sloom-themed costumes/accessories, new background music for the clockworks sleep-themed levels that sounds like a lullaby, and guildhall furniture that is sleep themed. Big, poofy mattresses.

Fangel's sleep seems ok

as long as there is no slef-inflicting sleep weapons because easily one could just spam self sleep to heal up before a super hard battle, it's a pretty abuseable system.

but then.... maybe make self-applied sleep non-healing?
/shrug

Fangel, Nice!

Or make self inflicting only Able to apply Weak Sleep, which has no healing.

Bring back sleep status!

I joined last year, so I never got to experience the sleep status and I would like to see/experience it.

+1 to Fangel
