"Most people are ineffective with using the Leviathan". The stigma arises from the failure of players to utilize it well in a team. The thought, is that Leviathan users will not care about teammates and push enemies haphazardly causing problems much like Nitrodome spam.
There's also that trick to get consistent 2 hits on the charge attack on mobile targets that most players are ignorant of, but that's not really part of this problem.
Leviathan's biggest problem is because it deals normal damage, making it generally worse than a specialized weapon, particularly the Brandish series; a close relative of Leviathan due to the normal strokes, only stronger. It's other problem is the obnoxious knockback with it's charge attacks.
Leviathan has little to offer you; it just has sappy normal attacks and a chaotic charge attack that flings enemies around. If you try using the charge (which is it's only thing that makes it worth using) in a party, you'll more often than not do more harm to your members than the enemies you're trying to kill, which results in you getting scolded or kicked...but if you're not a complete knucklehead, you can use the charge attack to great effectiveness and people will only hate you slightly less.
It's a decent weapon in solo since it can do a good job protecting you with it's charge attack. It's also cheap to create and gets the job done with it's jack of all trades damage as well as being able to synergize with most weapons, but still, you'll want to leave it at home since other swords (Brandish) can do it's job better.
I'm not sure that the original poster was looking for a serious answer, but Shadowstarkirby gave it perfectly.
Another thing is that since it has normal damage it cannot do split normal and something else. This means that it receives less of a damage boost than something like a brandish or sealed sword line, so is generally less worth boosting with attack ups etc.
Its charge can be used to separate menders from crowds and finish them off, so it isn't a bad weapon to pick up as a bomber- especially if you leave it at 4*. But that's just me.

There is nothing inherently wrong with Leviathan Blade except that it tends to be used by less experienced players who have little regard for their teammates and will start charge spamming. People don't hate on other normal swords like the Cutters because they aren't associated with counterproductive charge spamming.
I don't know why people dislike Levi, but maybe it's because it deals normal damage, and many users don't know how to use Levi effectively, like as falcon stated above, by knocking everything away from your teammates. Also, read shadowstarkirby's post, because his post details it so well, it makes this one completely and utterly redundant.
Course, this doesn't apply to everyone, but it does seem to be disliked for that. Course, i'm probably late in saying that, but oh well.
I don't know why people dislike it, it's great for cutting bread in the morning for your toast, with a side of cupcakes of course.
People hate Levi swords because of the misuse of the charge attack and the fact that it has no specialized damage. Levi sword is a great sword for general purposes but when you reach endgame you will craft weapons with different damage types.
I like my Leviathan Blade. I don't use it nearly as often as I do my other trusty swords, but when I'm feeling nostalgic and pick it up for a spin, it's always a really solid weapon. It beats the air like a drum and smites my foes with a satisfying smack. Rarely misses, feels strong. I never regret taking it anywhere.
The denim makes my legs chafe. I don't really like Levi's. More of a track pants kinda guy myself.
Why wear pants at all? This Valkyrie Mail is as comfortable as a dress.

This can only mean that the Gunner Update is a lie! It is actually an update that will change the Spiral knights into the Wolver Knights. Gun slinging and bombing will be outlawed, only furries with Brandishes are allowed to paly.
