Kataclysmic Confrontation DLC suggestion (simple, really)

I have a suggestion for Kataclysmic Confrontation DLC:

Instead of making us grind for TWO books per ONE 5-star item (seriously), make them more affordable!

My suggestion for the DLC:
1. Make it purchase-able, infinite even when you feel like playing it. Levels the playing field and makes everyone able to get their black book of Kat science.
2. No more book. Yes, you got that right - the book is out of existence.
3. DLC features 3-4 levels, for example - candlestick levels, followed by a boss battle, followed by a shadow lair end level (with the black thingy), followed by something like sanctuary - a place where you can craft Kat items, or exchange tokens.
4. Tier 1 rewards: only 3-5 ancient pages at the end of the run. Tier 2 reward: 1 ancient page from Black Kats, 3-5 pages for the boss. Tier 3 reward: 3 pages per black kat, 1 x Book of Dark Rituals. Bound. Cannot be traded. Complete DLC 6 times to get 6 books to get 6 wiskers per 1 armor at 5-star level. There you go - some grinding.
5. DLC book doesn't give you Black Kat Cowl, you have to craft it from 3-star item. And you have to get Kat fetishes from ancient pages, and wicked wiskers for defeating Margel.

The benefit of this DLC: players who did not receive a Book of Dark Rituals during these infinitely long events will have a chance to enjoy the game at their own pace.

The downside of giving a shortcut for these items: anything you craft within DLC is not tradeable. Token items are also non-tradeable. You get the DLC for your own benefit only. This will allow players to spend $$ on the game and support it without having to spend hundreds of dollars for a book (lets face it: there won't be many players who'll buy $100 energy several times in a row just to get a book or two).

Now, explanation to "you need 2 books" thing:
If you want a Black Kat Raiment, you need no less than two books. Why: you need 1+2+3=6 wiskers to craft final level of armor. This means, if there are 4 players in the party, so you get 4 wiskers. This means, you can make cloak with one wisker and trade the other 3 slots for 3 margel fight invites (if books weren't as rare). With 3 more invites you get 4 wiskers bound to you. You buy cloak, saving one wisker. You spend 2 more to upgrade cloak to 4-star item. And you still need 1 more wisker (2 if you crafted cloak instead of buying it) to make 5-star Black Kat Raiment!

A bad design. Such is my opinion.

Please post your opinions here.

Best idea I've seen for a bit of a while. In fact (and now that you mention it), instead of wasting their time stuffing cash-only gear into the prize boxes -- while at the same time detaching the boxes themselves from their energy sales promotions (for no good reason whatsoever, I might add) -- in order to "convince" players to spend more money, what they SHOULD do is add all of the non-holiday events (Shroud of the Apocrea/Kataclysmic Confrontation/March of the Tortodrones/whatever else they decide to come up with in order to turn the game into even more of a grindfest) to the DLC page, and charge a varied fee (similar to Operation: Crimson Hammer or slightly lower) for the permanent purchase & unlocking/activation of each individual "mission pack". >_> <_< >_>

But with the dlc, you could just grind and have pages guaranteed so it would put a huge sad face to those who don't have it. This is cheating in a way.

Three Rings puts chance into the game because they want you to play more.

More is fine but how much more are we talking about, really?

I calculated here:
http://forums.spiralknights.com/en/node/104985
that I would need at least 80 years (20 if I were a party of 4, 10 if I went all-out, 7 if even happened 3 times a year) to get a book of dark rituals with 100% success rate. One book. 7 years minimum, 80 years at my current rate.

Loved what you did there >:D
I completely agree with you, adding DLCs for Apocrea/March of the Tortodrones would allow me to play those events without having to worry about time constraints, and I missed both of those.

At the same time, various holiday events should happen periodically, but 2 weeks or less time for event is just too small, IMO. If they want us to play more, they should have some event for 1-3 months every season (season-based events, for example, and within them other kinds of events that are 1-2 weeks long). Winter event - Xmas, New year, festive costume items, winter theme. Various types of items, including costumes and accessories and re-skinned weapons and gear. Summer event - summer holidays, beach, camping ect. Spring and autumn can be similar. Short time events can be new bosses that aren't tied to the event itself, one fight a day, or more, rewarding tokens and rare costumes/cosmetics only.

Gosh, its almost a crime to give Three Rings these ideas free of charge! :D

+1 to OP, -1 to ShinigamiJr

I like the core idea. I just think it's not hard enough.

The BK set is SK's true post-end-game gear set. It's the set that everyone wants--because it's so powerful. It *should* be rare and hard to obtain, available to only the highest ranked players who have completed everything else and have loads of gear already.
It shouldn't be impossible though. This BK event firmly convinced me that without a lot of CE or hunting trickery your average player will never get the set on their own. That's not right.

I would be happy if this DLC mission were harder than UFSC and DFVana. Make the mission have 6-7 levels so it has a big time commitment. Start with two random-theme Candlesticks, make the third a triple-length candlestick with five or six fight rooms, then make the final three weird--some fiend cities loaded with BKs that don't drop pages. Have the fiends "summon" fight rooms full of grems, constructs, and wolvers into the levels so no one gear loadout is best. Take Margrel, put him at the end of the mission as the boss, and crank him up to 11--maybe two or three Margrels at once. Make it CRAZY.
(You can find a random book during the event and fight an easy Margrel, or do the DLC mission and fight a guaranteed crazy Margrel fight. That's a fair balance.)

Because that's my complaint with this event--there are no guarantees. If you put in the time and effort you can get the regular Kat helms--yay, whatever. The rest is in the hands of the Dark God RNG (quake with fear at his name, and may his favor fall upon you). If there were some guarantee of getting the BK set (even if it takes a lot of time and energy) then people will stop complaining about the Kataclysms.

the only problem I see is only payers earn books, possibly make it cost 3600 energy like OCH
also it should not have a tier 1, the armors and things start at 2, allow people of any rank to buy it, but lock it until tier 2
