Quick Intro, I'm the GM of a new and rising guild and I've found that for a game as well developed as Spiral Knights there is very little attention to community building. Now, don't get me wrong - I've been able to meet many people on Spiral Knights and I feel as if my guild is becoming a bit of a community however, it has been FAR more difficult than it should be.
Right now Spiral Knights is suffering from a severe lack of of tools available to guild masters and officers. Tools which would drastically improve the communication abilities of guilds and allow for a much stronger community with greater opportunities for relationship building and of course clockwork diving.
Much needed features include:
- A Guild Interface Window - Similar to the SK message board. A place where GMs and Officers may post up information about the guild, including announcements, upcoming events, a calendar, and news about their community. Another viable tab in the Guild Interface Window would be a place for knights to organize their PVP team members and matches
- Multiple-Recipient In-Game Mail System - It can be difficult when a message needs to be sent out between 5+ members of an organization and the message must be replicated multiple times. A system like this could function well within a guild (to avoid mass spammers) and allow for heightened communications between players
The Implementation of a Guild Interface Window which allows a range of organization functions would DRASTICALLY improve the quality of guild communities in Spiral Knights and will result in a greater environment for all knights.
Other features that, though not necessary, many guilds may consider to be desirable -
- an optional tax system. I've played in guilds in the past in which there were membership dues or automatic deductions from the players income (normally .5% to 1%). Money is set aside in a guild bank for purchase such as (in SK) Keys, Recipes, Rare Materials, UVs, etc...
- Greater diversity in ranks! As things currently stand there is no difference between recruit, member, and veteran; I think guilds may appreciate a greater range in differing responsibilities and privileges between ranks (editable by officers and GMs) as well as the ability to change the names of guild ranks.
Right now Guilds embody the vast majority of a player's experience in Spiral Knights. I believe that it is of critical importance to take the time to create tools for players and their Guild's officers to foster better and stronger communities and to allow for their knights to enjoy a greater experience in Spiral Knights than before.
Have a cashew.
