Warning Big wall of text Ahead (and with some flaws since i dont speak english very well)

Bot. Personal. Assistant B.P.A.

Introduction

Its seem everyone wants Pet. Its like something that “must be” on every MMO. Spiral Knights on my View Point I don’t see knights with “wolvers” or “spookats” at their side like other pets do on other MMO and Also it don’t fit very well. Here comes B.P.A (Bot, Personal Assistant). also i see more logical we come with our own technology and not like "farmers" to "tame" the wilderness here and make them our pets.

Back story

B.P.A it’s a small floating Bot that its given to every new recruit in the spiral knights order their works as small data info for the knight as well a support for them. (NOTE: THIS ITS JUST A BACK STORY NOT THE REAL FUCTION OF THE BOT THAT WILL BE DEFINED LATER). Giving them advices and some useful info on any environment they would meet on their travels. Their energy its unlimited due to a advanced and complexe engineering behind their creation. Being the ideal partner of the knights on their first day as well long life company.

In Game Fuction

Description:
Your bot will be give to you when you start in the game. It will be a easy design for them. Somewhat simple like the knight do when they start. Nothing special it float near to your knight and hoovers as the same speed as the knight move (or could be a little less like 5% less than the knight speed) wish I could put some artwork but I imagine something like this: http://i46.tinypic.com/35b802p.png
NOTE: i dont mean exact as phantasy star online but something similar and that can go along with the spiral knight artwork.

What they do:
Basically the bot can bring some Useful tips and info for new players (this can be deactivated later in Options, yeah imagine a “Navi” but without the annoying “Hey”) here in options will added those basic options:

Give new players advices from the game: if this enabled, the bot will give useful tips about the game. From weapons or about monsters etc. anything that can be useful for the player and Rank Missions tutorial don’t have (lets say about Shield cancel as example).

Talkative Random B.P.A: if the option to give advices from the game its disabled this will be the “voice our B.P.A” they will say some fun facts about the mechanism, kinda like the talkative monsters but more about a informative B.P.A since theyre our source of info lets say some thing random like “Did you know Wolvers (fun fact here)”?.

No talkative B.P.A: this disabled bot options making our B.P.A Completely Muted

NOTE: Due Posibble Spam Chat of those little beings in a big heaven, they only will display the Info Towards You like PM. (prolly in a light blue but not like cyan color).

Customizable B.P.A: Body and Accessories.

Since our B.P.A means to be supportive and informative here comes the supportive part:

Body:
Don’t misunderstand this its not like we going to give them bodies or like that it just a way to said. The body will use a Trinket Slot. So this would mean players that want their B.P.A supportive must use a Trinket Slot, the body will be crafteable giving our B.P.A minimal. Here comes another thing: Unique Circuit. This will work as Uv`s but this its only for B.P.A and with a low chance to get a Uc`s .

What kind of stats will give our B.P.A? well its hard to tell since we have trinkets and I don’t know how much Defense they provde to the player but since our B.P.A are supportive and informative then it comes 2 options:

A) I imagine for better because their give info, so they can give a bonus Vs monster. (they get info so its logical their info will be useful for the knight to know more about their surroundings). Every crafted body will give med vs monster bonus. If the body when is crafted get Uc`s then instead of low vs monster bonus will get high vs monster bonus.

I mean:

Common: low vs monster bonus
Rare: high vs monster bonus.

B) Second option it’s the same but instead of only VS monster attributes:

Common: low vs monster bonus
Rare: high vs monster bonus.

We can mix some resistances for example (It can be defense against the damage that monsters inflict)

Common: low vs monster bonus + low (resistance here)

Example: Damage vs beast: Low
Increase Piercing Defense: low

Rare: High vs monster bonus + low (resistance here)
Med vs Monster bonus + Med (resitance here)
Low vs monster bonus + high resitance here.

Example: Damage vs Beast: Med
Increase Piercing defense: Med

BUT Never High on everything (to avoid OP on them)

Acessories:
We can Customize our B.P.A to make them more Personal. Like armors have their accessories they can have their own accessories to make your P.B.A look as how you would like. What kind of accessories well its kinda hard to tell but I guess that’s OOO part. (of course if this idea works). But a idea for accessories would be like Bot wolver head (just and example).

From Body part: if those attributes seems to be overpowered or useless then the body we can craft can be use to customize our P.B.A.

Crafting:
In order to avoid more CE Sink. In the bazaar we can have a new NPC knight specialized on Engineering and maintenance of the P.B.A would work like a alchemy machine but it will have the recipes for our P.B.A bodies and it will cost only Materials + Crowns to make a Crown sink.

Materials I guess would be better and logical to use: metal and mechanical kind material + 1 monster resource material. For example (NOTE ITS AN EXAMPLE NOT THE REAL RECIPE)

5 iron gear + 4 broze bolt + 2 Force Dynamo + Monster bone + Amount of Crowns.
Create:
Fang Body: Damage Vs beast: low

Note: if body will make a difference on your B.P.A I hope will only be a Skin change for example Fang Body will give to your B.P.A a Color Skin like wolver. And their accessories will take that color or related colors.

Note2: To avoid easy crafting (since this it just a Crown sink) players would need a new material like mod calibrator. I mean the new material would be like Mod Stabilizer and only can be obtained with Krogmo coins (maybe 50 or 75 tokens).

A high Crown price to craft these will be nice.

How they will be used:
In order to use the armor of your B.P.A you will need a trinket slot (this to avoid to make a new slot for them and to avoid to have like 3 “trinket slot”).

Q “you said every player its given a B.P.A since they start the game so they will have a trinket slot from start?”
A: No, in order only to use the armor you craft for your B.P.A you need a trinket slot. If you don’t have one your B.P.A will stay with you but you cannot use their supportive Bonuses. Also you can keep using your trinkets if you don’t want the B.P.A bonuses

Where they will be used:
Since their supportive help its only for the Knight safety I don’t think they will be used in PvP. So B.P.A aren’t allowed in the PvP Field. Only in the PvE environment.

Bad side i only see i guess is the lag but anything added will make us lag anyway if it bad coded. and prolly many other bad side im not looking right now.

I guess i put everything I thought about this matter any ideas its welcomed as well opinions and im certainly aware about I can get flames too because ideas have that tendency but I welcome bad and good opinions as well.

Added it or not its all good. but i only see this as the most viable way to have "company" than "tame pets" as other wants

This is so grossly incorrect that I should have really just stopped reading at this point. I'm going to link my comment on this other pet thread, but I'll also write up a fresh response for your thread because you seem to have put a decent amount of effort into it.

1) No, not really.
2) Spiral Knights is not "every MMO". Spiral Knights is Spiral Knights. If I wanted to play "every MMO", I would not be playing Spiral Knights.

1) Have you seen these? There's a type of Spookat there.
2) Again, Spiral Knights is not "other MMO", so arguments involving this hardly matter.

Eh, this is partly true I suppose. Although Knights do have their own technology, there are plenty of cases in which Knights have adapted other technologies (e.g. Pulsar, Sealed Sword).

Right. So Knights built things that have unlimited energy, yet Knights' own armor requires external energy to function (source). This makes a ton of sense.

[B.P.A. will provide advice (e.g. how to shield cancel) and random facts]
1) I'm personally against this because it would likely take away part of what's left of the community's coherence. For example, part of the reason why shield canceling is a common practice comes as a result of the good of the community. People tell each other about shield canceling, or people look at the community-made wiki and find out about shield canceling. If B.P.A. provided knowledge and advice like this, community bonds would probably weaken.
2) Because a good portion of Spiral Knights tactical advice is made by the community, there's no telling what's right and wrong. What works for some people may not work for others. Since it's impossible to tell what the "best" advice is, it's infeasible for B.P.A. to provide any advice that's not already in the game as a sign module or as NPC speech.
3) Since B.P.A. are supposedly lifelong partners, it seems illogical that they would have any advanced knowledge of Cradle's inhabitants or of combat techniques. They arrived on Cradle with the same amount of knowledge as their owners/partners, so they shouldn't know anything their owners/partners don't know.

[Bonuses]
I can't say I quite understand what you've written here. First it seems like you want these to basically act like trinkets, but then somewhere else you seemed against that idea.
I'm not seeing a whole lot of good coming from these bonuses.
On one hand the damage vs family bonuses seem useless because you could simply use existing damage trinkets to achieve a broader effect for your weapons. On the other, family bonuses could prove to be stronger because they would affect more than just one type of weapon (i.e. bombs, swords, and guns instead of just swords). Additionally, they would potentially render existing damage vs family armor sets obsolete. See further discussion here.
Regarding Option B for bonuses, this definitely renders existing "specialist" armor sets as obsolete. Why would I bother crafting Dragon Scale Mail when I could achieve a similar effect for a drastically reduced cost (because of the lack of an energy cost)?

Again, not entirely sure what you're saying here.
My points on bonuses still stand.
if you put the bonuses aside, it now seems like you're essentially paying to craft accessories for your B.P.A.. This goes against the existing accessory market structure, so I'm going to say "no" to this part of the idea.

Yes, lag is definitely an issue. Having more things for servers to keep track of means more potential lag. Additionally, having more rendered objects means a reduced framerate on some computers.

In short, the potential issues I see with this idea vastly outweigh the benefits. I feel that if there's any way to properly implement pets in Spiral Knights, it's as cosmetic items, and this implementation already exists.

introduction:
The Technology-Part is kinda interesting. But instead of a solid body i would recommend that the *Bot* that flies around you is a hologram that gets projected by an item you can Put in the Accessory slot. On this way you would not be able to epquip the bot directly but you can get many different Bot-Projecters which (possibly) different functions and skins.

Back Story:
sounds good, but i would change the "unlimited energy"-part:
since it is not an own living it would rather count as a gun or Pendant and it can travel with the attached knight without the need of own costs. (you dont pay for your swords, too)

Function:
You could get a standart bot in the start mission that will be given away by reaching haven.

But i would completely redesign the functionally part and make it removeable:
it can give useful tips and explanations - that is okay, but dont make it increase anything since it would mess up the current game balance entirely.
The "Support"-Part of the bot could be
1. Explain Tactics (shoot with weapon to kill enemies, better bots will explain Shield Break etc.)
2. Entertaining (fun facts, leaving randome notes). but instead of spamming anything it shall just appear a bubble above the bot that is only readable by the own user. whispers would spamm your own chat, too.
3. Scouting (lower bots would say: this deep is Beast Themed, better bots could say wolvers and the best bots could give you the additional hint that besides wolvers and normal beasts there will be jellies)
4. Camera adjustment (changing the camera in given directions. i have something in mind what happens automatically while fighting vana)
5. Information Data Base (giving Information about weapons and amor, their use, better box could give more detailed infos)
6. Improved Scouting (this can be used to move freely in passable places but ignores gates and obstacles. while you use this function, your knight stands ilde and is attackable. Of course, you can not collect anything on this way and monster spowns will not trigger. it is not possible to interact with anything and buttons will not be pressed by floating over them. by pressing shield or attack the bot hologram will get unloaded and you get after a short delay (a half secound) controll over your knight again. it will need 30 secounds until you can use this ability again. as better the bot, as higher distance between the knight and hologram is possible)

Crafting:
i suggest that the basic form of each bot can get crafted by only crowns and material. (for example 100k cr, any hologram stuff, and certain materials from monsters. so if you want to have a spookat-holo, you can use owlite feathers etc)
advanced forms would require energie as well.

For once something "pet" related without having them directly assist you in any way; all they do is tell you what to do and/or give bonuses. Not that either should be implemented for reasons here.

The fact of the matter is pets would contribute nothing fair or useful for the game. In combat they would make the game too easy. In storage they would be useless because our knights have infinite storage. In any form of stat bonuses they would essentially be another form of trinket, which would mean giving people even more stats to glue to themselves. In giving advice to new users it would encourage isolation. We already have a cosmetic involving "pets" somewhat.

No giant post this time. You can all go home now.
