An idea for reducing CE prices

There are more players coming into the game, pouring more crowns into the market, and the real life price of the dollar is going up due to inflation, but the value of each of the CE packs has still remained the same.

Maybe the value of all CE packs could be increased by 15% permanently? So you'd then get 4015 Crystal Energy for the $9.95 pack.

Discuss.

@Ddffcz

I'm not sure what you said, but I'm going to assume you're saying to make it impossible to trade ce so that I have an excuse to chastise you.

You are stupid, how the hell will that lower ce? Seriously, you know nothing about economics.

I think he means that the OOO should make it impossible to trade ce and junk? but that kinda kills the Spiral kngiths because then F2P ppls cant get ce...

@Ddffcz How would that change anything? That would just make it a pain to deal with.

Dukeplatypus, of course ce

Dukeplatypus, of course ce market have to work, but people can trade ce over the market.
if trade between players will be implemented only through crowns, then p2p will be forced to sell ce.

That would also ruin the entire ce trade market. Look at the Bazaar forum for a second and you will realize that ce is the primary and most stable currency in the game. And steam trade would still work so your argument is invalid.

Dukeplatypus, its big problem

Dukeplatypus, its big problem of this game, p2p can buy ce, but it doesnt mean reducing price, because they have to convert it to crowns.

No, they don't have to

No, they don't have to convert it to crowns. Auctions are literally the only thing they can't buy with ce. That's why you see folks walking around with 100kce and not 8mil cr.

So far there has been no feedback on how this would negatively/postitively affect the economy. Back on topic please?

The 15% was just an example. Good point rounding stuff off.

Don't forget UV rolling though. That's a massive crown sink.

The only person with the same avatar as me had to reply to me :P

I realise crown sinks are an effective way to reduce the costs of CE, however, the only thing I'm concerned about here is the permanent increase in value of CE packs.

Is this a good idea?
Would it solve the CE problem once and for all?
Would it cause other problems such as CE price crashing, Auction House flooded with higher star equipment, or endgame reached faster, leading to an increase in CE again?
Would it cause a rage in the community due to crashing CE prices?

DDFFCZ brings a good, but poorly written point. I don't blame him; English probably isn't his first language.

What he wants is for CE to only be sold over the CE Depot for crowns. This means that it could not be traded to other players directly, and that it could not be traded for items.

This would work wonders on the in game economy, and would probably be neutral for OOO's business.. what we've got, is a group of players that buys and uses CE to do all trades. You don't sell a red chap for 3.2 million crowns (which it is literally worth right now), but you sell it for 40K CE. This means that a huge portion of the energy is held up by rich players trading with each other. If someone wants to buy in, they buy in- but they aren't influencing the CE market at all, unless they sell their promotional item for CR, in which case they are acting as a crown sink. Featured auctions were a step in this direction of valuing items in terms of crowns over energy, DDFFCZ is suggesting we go the rest of the way there.

--------------------

I think that rather than raising the energy given by OOO, we should lower the prices within the game. Perhaps lower the cost to craft an item in energy, and raise the cost in terms of materials. We all complain that materials aren't what they used to be... and being able to sell them higher would benefit the players running the levels.

So many ideas, so few results.

On Topic

Hexzyle, this idea is more or less the same as reducing the conversion rate of real money to CE. OOO will never do this because:

Copied from my own thread:

The reasoning behind this is very simple. If they were to reduce CE prices permanently, and not through a promo, while it might induce a whole load of people to buy CE in the short run, after a while, when people get used to these CE prices and start complaining, they will expect OOO to reduce CE prices again because, hey, they did it before.

So you see it becomes a vicious cycle. The first time OOO permanently reduces CE prices, lots of people buy, and after a while things go back to normal. But when people get dissatisfied again, they expect OOO to permanently reduce CE prices again, which, eventually, is going to kill their source of income.

-end copy-

In addition, Derpules has pointed out in my thread that if OOO were to give more CE for your money, current players who have bought CE for pre-edit prices will rage as they feel that they have been cheated somewhat.
Admittedly, it will solve a lot of problems related to increased crown prices but sadly it's not going to happen.

Feel free to read my on the economy thread here: http://forums.spiralknights.com/en/node/56442 , it should help most people gain an insight into how the economy works and what doing certain things will do to the market.

I actually like Fehzor's (explanation of Ddffcz's) idea.

That is all.

I've metioned this before

I've mentioned this before, but whether you agree with me or not, consider, what if 3 rings offered avatar complete packages?
I mean something enticing, a complete package that comes with all the essentials, and offer a variety of avatar types, Hell, I'd buy one, or two, or three.. xD.
