I know that you are busy with Guild Hall updates, fixing bugs that have been around since a long time ago, and you are working really hard. I truly appreciate it, in fact the news of the Guild Hall update is what brought me back into playing this game after taking a break.

There is just one, very small detail that still bugs me though....

The forums.

Okay, more specifically, the avatars. They are great! They are nice! But you know what they are lacking? Updates. The most recent armor set on there, in terms of relativity, would probably be Mercurial. And Fanart! I love what is in there, but there is a TON of new fanart out there to choose from.

My small and humble request is simply adding in the armor sets that exist currently. None of the SL armors are available as an avatar, let alone a lot of the costumes that have come out (now, I'm not asking for something ridiculous, like putting in all the variants of the Hunter Box / Hallow Box armor sets...thats silly).

And, furthermore, does it take that long to do it? I don't think so. Wait, where is my proof that it doesn't take long? It's somewhere...around....here.

Yeah...made those within a few hours. Not hard. Making fanart avatars would take less time too, due to simpy resizing and cropping being all that needs to be done (most of the time).

If, for some reason this is an impossibility, I would like to know why this is the case. I don't see how it is. OOO, I know you are busy, but a consideration of updating the forums with more recent avatars would be great.

Or, of course, just give us damn custom avatars. Like seriously, OOO wouldn't even need to care for new avatar-pics, we'd make some ourself.

Regarding the forums, we also need some more functionalitys in general. Right now it's so simplistic it's not even funny. No PMs, no sigs(ESPECIALLY sigs, Luguiru for instance could just walk around with the link to his thread being tatoo'd on his forehead, essentially halving his work. I can well imagine this to be helpful especially here in the suggestion forums), no ranks to reward and predict someones activity and thus adding some more emphasis on the words of the forum veterans here, better, advanced search and overall, the only thing that this forum does reliably is posting messages on threads and creating said threads. It's just so primitive. For an MMO, this is in my opinion not acceptable.

Custom avatars allows players to use inappropriate avatars, and many of the avatars in use wouldn't fit the theme of the SK website, which is one of the cool features of the forums. This doesn't seem like it'd take too long, for the armorsets, that is. Fanart could take some serious time to dredge up, and more time still to update. Even if players were submitting art for approval regularly so the GMs didn't have to go through every treasure vault thread in existence, it would still take some time to decide which art goes up as an avatar.

I would like to have a link to my hat, but not necessarily as a signature. Maybe as a list of favorited threads opened by clicking your name to make those blue letters do something more useful. Even then I would still have to link specific posts because checking the index for something is too difficult apparently.

Custom avatars (not custom as in uploaded by the user, custom as in you can pick X helmet, Y torso, Z personal color, and W eye style) would be nice. It would take time with no output, but it would make us forumers a little happier. We might even do a musical number.

I also can agree on a total revamp on the forums. Drupal, IMO, is one of the worst I have seen.

However.

This demands a lot more work, considering that they would have to:

  • 1. Find something else more suitable.
  • 2. Optimize it to be coherent with the current website.
  • 3. Transfer all the previous posts on over to the new site.
  • #3 would be the hardest, because that requires the most amount of work to make sure it all transfers correctly.

Going back to the topic of discussion...

Custom avatars would be nice. I like using them myself, because if I didn't like the ones I was presented with, I just made my own! But, as Addisond said, this opens up for some inappropriate avatars, and with the staff of OOO as small as it is, it only puts more work on those that pay attention to the forums.

That said though, some form of submitting fanart to be considered for use as a forum avatar is an idea all on it's own. It could lessen the work needed by those who would become dedicated to finding what to use as possible forum avatars.

I was thinking about such as well. Unfortunately, I have only seen one forum that has successfully incorporated something akin to this, and that was the WoW forums, where it took what your character looked like in-game, and made an avatar out of it.

However, a system that allows one to choose from existing helms, armors...and possibly accessories, would be nice. If not that, perhaps then a way to get how you look in-game onto the forums. Me personally, I would love that. Considering I don't have any of the Rose Regalia, it would be nice to show what I do have instead.

Although for creating such a thing, they would need the backdrop, easy. Then they would need to use something....akin to Spiral-Spy, but much more user-friendly. Once the helm and armor were set, eyes could be chosen, then personal color...and once that is all done, the system turns all the information into a PNG, which can then be used on the forums. Unfortunately, I'm not too program savy, so I personally would not know how to make such a thing.

    I don't know why you can't

I don't know why you can't use a pic of your own knight.
