I am sure Three Rings, that you are not ignorant to these events. The many Australian / New Zealand players here deserve an update regarding this matter. I have been a loyal player since June 11th 2011. I like your game, I have stuck with it through all of the patches and updates. Unfortunately, after hearing there's a HK/TW server managed by Gamecyber , often forgotten and ignored members of the gaming community, it comes to great sadness that we start to write these kind of threads, just so that we can comfortably play without 200-300 latency.

I want to play Spiral Knights with <100 latency. Unfortunately, we are greatly lacking any information or updates from you regarding if or when we may be seeing some good news about our struggle to compete in a competitive game due to constant latency issues.

tl;dr: Requesting Three Rings to provide an update to Australian / Oceanic players regarding if or when we are going to see a server that is dedicated for our region.

Aussies and Kiwis, keep this thread bumped up for exposure so we can get a reply. Any bumps from the caring US/EU players would also be much appreciated.

I applaud for you, because you asked in a polite way, unlike others.

But... ask yourself : Are the Aussies only players that are lagging in-game ? I think not. Although I am nearer to EU server than you, but still I have 250-350 ping. There are many players around the globe that are having high latency, so the Australians aren't the only one suffering. Examples would be :

1. South Africa

2. Russia

3. Eastern Europe

4. Southwest Asia

5. Western Asia in general

6. South America ( Even though they are the nearest to the US server. )

7. Antarctica

So if you want to make a new server, OOO should check and see where is the highest playing rate, then they decide. And it would feel selfish if X got new server, while Y should keep suffering. So it will cause many problems that OOO wants to avoid. And the last thing, OOO doesn't have enough money to make even one server, they are a SMALL company.

You omitted Southeast Asia from the list.

Although there are servers operated by GameCyber, it's only for Hong Kong, Taiwan and Macau. People joining SK from other SEA locations will still be directed to the US/EU servers OOO operates.

Not to mention I spent plenty of time (grinding F2P way to full 5*) and money (bought one of each pack and then some more after being full 5*) here, and it is absurd to ask me to ditch all that investment and start over, when OOO and GameCyber do not offer account transfer.

And even if there is transfer, are you telling me to ditch all my friends and guild?

This whole GameCyber mess is shoving a giant /rude into SEA players' faces.

And no, I didn't ask you to go to the GameCyber server, knowing that it is hard. But please, be fair. You SEA people, have a problem, and can solve it, but with downsides. But others, like us, don't even have choice to fix their gameplay, even with downsides.

There is difference.

Southeastern Asia : Have high latency, but CAN fix this, but with sacrificing.

Other people : Have high latency, but CAN'T fix this, even with sacrificing.

I think what OOO is doing is fine for now, considering the size of the game.
Other games like spiral knights survive with US/EU servers only too. Multiple servers around the world are for bigger MMOs.

Asia is fairly close to you, would reduce the lag on your end, a lot of people could benefit from that, not only you...

OOO/SEGA allowed Gamecyber to run a server in HK and Taiwan is like a great insult to Asian players, I'd say it's adding further injuries to an existing wound. I nearly thought of quitting - as many of my Chinese friends already did when confronting this mean, annoying and sad news. They would rather gather Asian players up in an enclosed small community rather then letting them join or to play with a lower ping in the larger one. Unlike EU/HK server, HK/TW server don't share characters, which means that's 2 different accounts like the majority of Asian games I've played in the past. 1 server dedicated to one area, want to go on another one to meet a friend? (want to go on TW server while you got all that 5* in HK?) Good? Too bad make another account and donate more $$$ if you want to be quick.

I'm currently playing from China, the lag here is just as irritating as it is in Australia, endless time outs, black screens, teleporting and drifting. It's literally impossible to play during those laggy periods where all American players are on. Initially I thought playing from China might result in lower ping as a developing country has way better Internet than Australia which still relies on that old Telstra Copper chunks. My average ping on a good day is around 200~300ms, same as in Australia but as soon as it passes dinner time the ping increases to 500, sometimes approaching 800 or 900, this lag is impossible to deal with even with my 'fairly skillful 3000+ hours game time'. Normally shielding at the instant a monster releases its attack animation will work. However with this 800+ ms of ping I keep my shield on all the time. Therefore I chose an easy, the best alternate which is not to play this game during those insane laggy times.

I'm sure Asia, or Australia has a fairly large player base since I personally know many Asians and Aussies in this game. Lots of them. Why did OOO even allow Gamecyber to run their game? Because Asia has a tiny community, a small player base and they will not make any money? I don't think so.

Building Asian/Aussie server = more of us will play = more people from this laggy legion will be happy to throw their money in those 3 giant rings.

tl;dr: The lag zone needs a server, not ran by some random company but by ooo/SEGA itself. A server = more players = more payers = more $$$. Simple as that.
(I suck at business related stuff, correct me if I'm wrong.)

Not to be discouraging, but if you wish to play with a proper connection and enjoy the game to the fullest you probably wanna join us guys on the GameCyber server. The fact that OOO agreed to let SK be hosted by GC kind of shows that they have no plans to open their own servers down here, which is why they sold us out.

You always wait forever and see no server or move over here, and experience SK with a proper connection. (Which is basically like a different game)

TL;DR A server from OOO, very very very very very unlikely to happen.

Note : OOO doesn't open servers. They plainly develop the game. Sega buys their publishing rights, and opened 2 servers that are sync-ed together. OOO also sold GC publishing rights, and they open their servers there.

Why oh why...

... do Asian and Aussie has trouble with 300 pings, but when I get 300 pings (for various reason). I have no trouble actually dealing with it because I was USED TO PLAY WITH LAG WHEN THE GAME FIRST CAME OUT.

UK players has tremendous lag too, but I know a lot who can play with those lags, because it's been like that for months and they got used to it. I thought Asian and Aussies could do that too. I mean... yeah it's sad, but you can still play and enjoy it. I have 2-5 seconds disconection because my internet provider was routing up fiber glass (which I don't have nor use at this point).

That's worth raging... but constant 300 pings... meh, you get used to it and you get good with it

Yeah i am in Pakistan here and i experience alot of lag but i got used to it and learned to be a good player in more challenging conditions which will make me better then players who aren't experiencing lag as the won't be as agile or swift as a lagger i think.

Australia really goes under the radar in forms of all gaming, yet people don't realize that the majority of Oceania/SEA players would be playing on say the US servers and yet would still be rather skilled in their games. Being skilled plus having terrible ping, by having a Oceania/SEA server, it would create a gateway to great potential and amazing players for pvp

If there will be an Oceanic server. It would be an independent region and crossovers between servers do not mean improved ping for Oceanic players playing in NA or EU side. An Oceania would have it's own player base dungeoning and LD'ing with each other with proper connection. In other words, an Aussie player who wants to play in NA LD would still suffer that red bar. It's too bad really, but it's better than always suffering that red bar.

Your Problems Are Now Solved

Well actually in about 3 years for stage one ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

The NBN (National Broadband Network) http://www.nbn.gov.au/
is now on a rollout in most parts of Australia and still a lot of construction to go.
With this it would help with the Lag and Latency but that will be an approximate 5 years wait for that to happen.

But that won't fix our biggest problems OOO.
Please OOO do a survey on how well the servers are running and what improvement you can input.

I do believe that you are a small company and your budget might not be big, but you are with SEGA with your games so maybe a bit of help from there side. It will improve play time and also will encourage new players to join the game allowing you to gain more money throughout the transactions.

Wasting money on new servers will be really costly but on a long run it will really help you to gain money and popularity in this game will increase allowing a whole bunch of new players daily.

playerbase in australia is too small to make a server here but one in SEA would be perfect. Nobody knows for sure whether it will boost the game's revenue/popularity mainly because this game is dwarfed in comparison by other MMOs.

I'm in Perth and as you can see lewl, my data passes through a heavily congested zone with high population density. East Aussies and NZers appear to have a better situation passing through a more direct route.

I guess l've gotten the furthest over Australian latency, better then any other Australian player l know of anyway. In terms of lockdown l've been able to put up with the lag and become a competent bomber, at least, l think so anyway, nothing pro but decent. As for clockworks, that's all cake. It has taken a stupidly long time though for me to get as far as l have, according to steam, over 4000 hours.

Most aussies just play the typical skolver GF/DA hammer FF and polaris. If youre referring to stolidly then no, the best aussie at striker melee tactics is currently funnybunnys.

the ping doesnt matter much when youre playing with swords. i've tried it myself and found it relatively easy to break the 10k mark while still capping just by swinging around a DA or a flourish, its all about the volume of swings. its all relatively easy until you start fighting people with tremendously low ping and awesome UVs but even then skill is of little importance because even the most skilled players with best server connection can die from being lag-trapped in a GF being swung by some guy half a world away.

most of the aussies that complain about lag are just the guys trying to do precision tactics like gunning or some highly unorthodox tactics which require very low pings; very hard to do when the server receives delayed packets.

I Can look at a friends screen and mine, I can be on both sides of a arena apparently...

I think you mean almost everyone. Aussies aren't some special kind of being. We play the same game, in the same sets, that give the same benefits. Why should we do any differently? Yes, we have high-latency. Doesn't mean everyone has to suck at it... I suck at it, but that's not the point.

That was one of the most ridiculous things I've read in a while. Trying to hit something that isn't where you see it is damn hard. Being a swordie is easier than a gunner, yes, but it's no where near easy... maybe I'm just not used to my 700ms+ latency.

Most aussies that complain are the ones that have high-latency, and suffer from phantom attacks and just randomly missing when they see a hit. The sad part is I've seen way too many US players complaining about lag, when chances are, few of them have to put up with bad lag.

Regardless, I can't believe people are against this server because they're not in the Oceania/Asian region. The server is intended to boost players in the Eastern side of the world. Of course it isn't going to help everyone, but it does help some.

Also, hitting some enemies may not bee too much trouble with high latency, but it's mainly what comes After that, it's impossible to know when or where things are going to attack at the worst, sometimes we can get damaged before the enemy starts charging. With lag and latency, it's timing the shield with hitting that makes it hard.

I know it's many others, not just people in the Oceania/Asia regions, shouldn't just be one area, but what's wrong with fixing a problem in any area?
