Test Feedback: Stage 2 Weapon Adjustments

57 replies [Last post]

Welcome back brave testers!

This week we're opening the Preview Server again to test some more weapon adjustments. A few different weapons have been changed. Check them out and please give us your feedback. To help with your testing, the Supply Depot has the altered weapons for sale. The preview server will be open until October 26th unless there are some unforeseen circumstances.

All Calibur Combat Style weapons charge attack damage zones increased from four to six, damage zones synced more closely to animation. Enjoy the new punch of these legendary blades:

  • Leviathan Blade attack and charge attack damage moderately increased.
  • Cold Iron Vanquisher attack and charge attack damage moderately increased. Bonus Damage vs Undead increased from High to Very High.
  • Amputator Combat Style changed from Brandish to Calibur! Damage minorly increased, Bonus Damage vs Slime increased from High to Very High, chance of causing Fire added to charge attack.
  • Turbillion attack and charge attack damage minorly increased and bullet damage moderately increased. Charge attack bullet slowed, lifetime increased, damage zone minorly increased, and chance of causing Shock added.

Any reskins, visual changes associated with status, lower star versions of these weapons, or recipe changes due to change of combat style will be updated for future testing before a final release.

We look forward to hearing your thoughts on these changes. Go forth and test!

My feedback and ideas.

Leviathan Blade
I think buffing the damage of normal damage weapons is the right approach to make them more viable, while still allowing "specialized" weapons to serve their purpose. The idea of the Leviathan Blade dealing more neutral damage than, let's say, a Combuster is quite appealing, given how enemy defenses can ramp up in Elite difficulty and full parties, especially if we don't factor in levels and damage bonuses.

Cold Iron Vanquisher
I've read other people's feedback too and I must say, I also like the idea of it dealing Freeze status on charge. Quite fitting for its name too. It'd be more unique than its current iteration.

Amputator
I don't think this change would make it any more relevant than it currently is, mainly because it'd be "yet another normal damage Calibur" while also removing the only normal damage Brandish we currently have (which also has the highest flinching power).

I can see the Calibur type being a good fit for the Amputator, almost making it look like you're spinning around with a chainsaw in your hands. However I'd propose reworking its stats and purpose too. Rather than dealing pure Normal damage and being dedicated to Slimes (which can already be dealt with effectively using Acheron, Grim Repeater, Phantamos and many other shadow weapons), I'd suggest making the Amputator deal Normal + Piercing damage. This would fit its "spiky" look, make it quite effective against Beasts and Fiends as they have monsters that can jump at you from all directions, and it would fill a gap in the current roster of weapons as we currently lack a Piercing sword with basic attacks that behave like Caliburs/Brandishes.

Turbillion
In its current form, I don't think it would become relevant. Its charge attack could be seen as a weaker version of Voltedge, mainly because enemies can easily be pushed to the sides instead of being carried along by the tornado. I believe it lacks both identity and power.

I suggest making the tornado actually suck in and carry monsters along its path, dealing damage but not inflicting Shock status. Only when the tornado ends/explodes at the end it would have a high chance of inflicting Shock. This could make it feel almost like a mobile Electron Vortex, giving it a unique identity. In some ways it would also be a safer option, as it would ensure that monsters are dragged away from you before being shocked, assuming they even survive the entire charge.

Hi, just some few more about Trubillion

After some tests in PvP mode

Turbillion charge doesn't behave like when it is interacting with mobs. With a player, the charge disappears as soon as it hits the player

You can see from this clip Here

also Turbillion charge hit the wall if you use the charge attack next to the way backfacing.

@Ainog

This seems like a deliberate design choice. Same thing with DA/GF charge, Magnus line charges, etc, they all vanish on first hit in PvP rather than piercing through like in PvE

@Top-Platinum

+1 to Cold Iron Vanquisher dealing freeze, fits name. Would be cool to see more calibur style weapons with specialized damage or status.

@Thats-Rough-Buddy

More new SpinSwords would be nice, especially if we get a trio that mimics the Elemental Brandishes in a sense with differing knockback

Feedback

I still find these weapons lackluster, and would not use any of them in their current state.

Turbillion:
Just underwhelming. Give it something unique, make its charge attacks pull in enemies like an electron vortex or something. Damage could probably be bumped up a tiny bit as well, or maybe make it inflict shock on all attacks instead of just charge attacks. 100 % of the time. It needs some more sauce.

Levi blades:
My main problem with these is that they all may as well be the same sword. If you turned off damage numbers and reskinned them all to look the same, I would not be able to tell which was which. Differentiate them:
- Make Cold Iron deal elemental and freeze
- I really liked the idea of amputator giving a defense down, take away the fire or something to compensate. We have fang of vog already which is also quite similar.
- Levi is just kind of a boring sword by design I think. Its charge is decent, give it an inbuilt CTR M bonus on itself or something. I would use it in that case, as it would be cheap enough for me to not have to spend a bundle on a UV to make it usable.

amputator as a cutter?

If amputator ends up changing weapon families, I think cutter would suit it well.

If it became split elemental normal it would fill the missing elemental in the cutter line (FoV is a calibur line wep).
The name fits well with the line and it would imediately see some use unlike being the red-headed stepchild it is now as a brandish or another repetitive calibur variant, both of which it will continue to see less use.

With the buffs to the cutter family, they are quite fun to play with and use. I like using them over the more meta weapons and its a refreshing change of pace compared to the typical brandish/blitz spam.

I agree with Grandish mainly, he has many great points here.

Sierra-White is very correct too right above me, even though I rather Cold Iron Vanquisher become a normal/elemental hybrid that keeps the Damage vs Undead High. Pretty much giving it the Wild Hunting Blade treatment. But I agree on giving it freeze as well since it's perfect for it and how it's supposed to be "cold" iron as well.

I also see what Top-Platinum is saying too, but I feel that Amputator should still be a Brandish since changing it leaves a void for the Normal Damage Brandish.

Can it instead be buffed to be a decent starting Brandish? I still like the suggestion to give it defense down so it still has some utility with other players and weapons.
