If you play your cards right, you'll never have to make content again

Ok, so here's what I'm thinking. Instead of releasing content at all, it would be easier to just fire the entire development team and pretend like content is being made. The new SK calender is as follows:

--Year One--

Jan.= xmas event ends midway through
Feb.= Celebrate valentines day, add "new" costume = various pink/red/whiteish reskins of whatever
Mar.= Tortodrones + remove a random rarity/change some random piece of gear to be absurdly strong

Apr.= S3cr3t GM forum + Anniversary event
May.= Run black kats towards the end of the month
Jun.= Test the handguns again, pretend like you're giving them to us... but don't.

Jul.= Winterfest in july event! One week only!
Aug.=Run apocrea as a stand alone from halloween.
Sep.=Tortodrones again

Oct.= Octoberfest! Oh wait no wrong thing. Dark harvest... whatever that thing was.
Nov.= Thanks giving + flash sales
Dec.= Big hype for xmas event.

--Year Two-- (Same for all months not listed)

Jan.= xmas event ends midway through
Mar.= change the random piece of gear changed last month back to how it was. Open testing server for this.

May.= Tease at "new content" once again, and then act like it didn't happen.
Jun.= Biscotti will occasionally walk around for a week or two as if hinting at something.
Jun.= Invent a staff member and have an existing staff member "quit". For instance, Eurydice could take on a new name and pretend to leave.

Jul.= Black kats
Aug.=Tortodrones
Sep.=Surprise caketastrophe!

--Year Three--

Start over at Year one again.
.
.
.
So as you can see, there won't ever actually be any need for content, because the players that "stick around" will all be gone by the next year regardless of whether you're working on actually improving things, and a fresh batch of players will be there to go through the Calendar. I really think that this could save you guys a lot of time and effort trying to save a dying game, and would give you time to work on a project that actually deserves it.

Move over! There's bubble-wrap to be popped!

You forgot the "Make whoever is the lead dev at the time quit their job" for January and the "Show secret forum and pretend it's not there despite how obvious it is" for April

Could you perhaps be a bit more descriptive? What is "No." Why do you disagree?

"it would be easier to just fire the entire development team and pretend like content is being made."

Firing the whole development team doesn't sound like a good idea because that would mean that all of the SK developers would lose their jobs. If the SK team were to pretend about making new content, then eventually (probably) everyone would know and nobody would want to play SK.

"So as you can see, there won't ever actually be any need for content, because the players that "stick around" will all be gone by the next year regardless of whether you're working on actually improving things, and a fresh batch of players will be there to go through the Calendar."

So basically, by implementing this suggestion, we'll lose a group of old players and have a fresh new players to come in where they would leave after a while. However, there's a flaw in that logic; how would the new players know about Spiral Knights if the old players have quit? Okay, maybe from time-to-time, there would be new players coming in. But Spiral Knights isn't advertised that much. For the SK team to do this move and succeed, they would need a lot of players to be in the player base, because nobody knows whenever new players would come in or not.

Sky y u take this so serious :P

Why is this a suggestion, though? It's been implemented for at least two years already.

@Skyguarder

But if we fire people from the development team, we can use the excuse of "the team is low on members, and content production is slow".

Almost everyone I knew from a few years ago have quit, and we still see people coming en mass... but they all leave anyway, so why bother pretending like we're retaining them? Just let it happen and milk them while they're there. We have a "good community" which means that it's just big enough to have people that won't be able to see the process (because its rather hard to see, though you can feel it) and will keep playing. These players will be the base from which newer players will stick around to encounter.. as for the early missions, those are already a ghost town so no loss there.

Another thing to consider is that the game will make more money on the whole if this happens-- the software engineer(s) that make(s) the update that occurs once per year and various "events" that occur constantly possible will move on, and find a better job somewhere with a group of people that actually care about something. Its a win win for everyone except me and you, so I see no problem there.

And if we're being serious

Then I refer back to this

@Klipik

Keep in mind that the current staff would all go on to produce newer and more successful products, like puzzle pirates... So the new project would have another shot at success and due to the nature of how coding things works, would probably have a better chance of working out than trying to fix up rusty old SK would anywho.

Another thing is that like you said, the veteran players are too dumb to realize what is happening, so it's ok to take advantage of them. In fact, whenever OOO introduces large grindwalls or ignores the playerbase or delays updates for 6+ months, they all actively stand up for OOO and excuse them for pretty much anything. All we need to do is provide a small excuse, and purchase some Nesquick to complement all of the milking we'll be set up to perform and we're set for life.

If anything, the developers should work on a single patch or two before they all move on to work on better more worthy projects. I suggest finishing the gunner update up, then implementing a casino of some sort and perhaps some kind of "super UV", wherein you can get random added effects onto your weapon with complete disregard to balance... for a huge price, of course! I'm thinking something easy to pick up, like a lottery ticket.. basically, it'd be like punch but harder to gamble for and more worth it. This will be used to trap the stupid veteran players that don't know any better into the calendar cycle.

@Fehzor

So, are you suggesting to fire the development team just because the game isn't worthy?!

Seriously Fehzor, try to put yourself on Nick's place. When he created this game, I'm certainly that he didn't want that the game finishes on something that isn't worthy. I'm certainly that he wanted to see the game bigger, a world to explore, all sort of weapons and gear to craft!

Fehzor, it isn't about a game being worthy on money-terms, but on realization-terms.

If the game grow and become bigger, certainly the dev team will look to it and say: "The hardest game we made, but the best one". It's about having a dream and try to make it reality!

So, Fehzor, don't make such suggestion. I know that YOU are a person of big and great ideas and I saw and read a lot of your threads. Your threads are very well-thought. YOU wants the game better like everyone on this forum, I know it. Please, don't give up of this game.

Done! I said what I wanted to say.

@Trats-Romra

Or perhaps YOU are the one giving up on all of the brilliant future endeavors the various artists and programmer(s) and game designer(s) could potentially make, if they would only choose to liberate themselves from the failure that is Spiral Knights and move along in their lives.

The general consensus is that I'm garbage, lying to me like that could easily qualify as 'cruel and unusual' if not naive. Most of the things I say are completely without basis, and the rest have little to begin with.

@Tsubasa

Whatever potential there is or was or will be is clearly not being lived up to. The developers would be better off leaving the game and finding a new project.

@Pip

I don't mention those because every time there isn't an update, a promotion will be added to the game.

Woosh...

I do believe this is appropriate right now.

We need to make this on an every 2-week calendar, because then we could have promos in those slots instead of just letting it fall into a month period.

Don't forget bringing back old prize boxes via the surprise prize box too!

If the dev team have another plans, it they have another dreams, I'm OK with that. I just got angry, because you pratically said on their faces to give up, because the game isn't worthy. Maybe the game isn't on the best moments now, but maybe they want that it becomes a great game. I don't know what are their plans and dreams, but I just wish that they to follow them.

The general consensus is that I'm garbage, lying to me like that could easily qualify as 'cruel and unusual' if not naive. Most of the things I say are completely without basis, and the rest have little to begin with.

Fehzor, I not said it without base. Look, I'll point out some of your threads:

http://forums.spiralknights.com/en/node/100937
http://forums.spiralknights.com/en/node/74848

And, oh man, the video made by you of "Statusless weapons VS Jelly King". Incridible.

I believe that every people is born with potential, with something special. A potential that needs to be discovered and that make yourself happy. So, NO ONE IS GARBAGE!

You have potential Fehzor. I see it on your thoughts and your well-thought threads. You just need to believe that you have potential, a potential that just you will discover for your own.

I'm being sincere.

As a suggestion to add on, if you make level 10 weapons degrade into level 9 and slowly lose.heat over time (and cool.off) then you'll have even MORE of.a.market for fire crystals with the vets that already have level 10 max UV armor and weapons.

@Paris Thesia
That's actually a good point, and could be used to help keep veterans in the game longer.

Another good point is that this isn't an election in 'Murica, which means that "+1" and "-1" are meaningless. I'll go over the difference.

'Murica Poll: "+1". Why? Because Obama is black. SOUNDS GREAT. "-1". Why? Because Obama might have come from not the US. SOUNDS GREAT. "+1". Why? Because actually I just wanted to vote and did so randomly. Hooray for being 18! SOUNDS GREAT.

Discussion post: "+1". Oh, you all want for OOO to do the thing? You don't have a legitimate reason for it? YOU HAVE ADDED NOTHING.

Have OOO hint at re-releasing Super Brawl, and then show a video of Super Smash Bros Brawl where a random link showing off game play is and say you forgot to put Smash Bros in there, even though in no time has a update ever shown gameplay.

Afterwards, go get sued by Nintendo and give yourself a pat on the back, and a snipe BBQ
