My 2cents:
I understand Sega wishes to make money, but seriously I do not understand why they just won't help promote this game and develop actual playable content for this game. The last big update I think we had this year was the Tortodrone event which lasted two weeks if you missed out on the event you pretty much came back to the same game with a bunch of re-skins costumes, a few new accessories, and a few new re-skinned (pets, guns, etc.). I mean it is great that I can now wear a swimsuit and use a super soaker to kill Vana, but I mean at this point and time he been pretty much the same end-game content I been killing for 3+ years.
Perro & many others that I know who are in Eos pretty much feel the same we don't care that they are pushing promo after promo since in reality we just won't buy into the promos if we don't like them, but we are all pretty much sad that Promos seem to be the #1 priority of this game instead of actual content. As far as real money going into this game I am pretty sure Eos has given the most money to Sega + Three Rings, and when I can easily say we spent in total at most 1.5k the past two promos well that is saying something since well most of the time we would have just two players spending close to that amount per promo if they really liked it.
I know the boxes have changed, and what not and you can say yay you are getting more boxes thus less spending, that is a valid point, but then again most of our big spenders rather not waste their money on promos knowing in the next two weeks we will have a new promo.....two weeks after that another one (Most of them will be re-skins of items we already have or just might throw in old items from past promos which were 60% drop rate n make them 9% drop).
Short-Version:
Please give us actual playable content if you wish to just push promo after promo it is great that my knight has a new costume every two weeks, but its pretty lame he has to waste his new outfit killing the same monsters and running the same clockwork levels....(which he been running for the past 3+ years). Spice up the clockworks, create new bosses, new mini-bosses, new anything which isn't buyable-content & most people will be happy.
Ps:
Yellow Snipes and all those other colored snipes add them to the Birdsong Emporium already!
Well in the end if the content remains slow (or just costumes), it's alright if people come and go. Perhaps I just wanted the fun to last and not end, but who doesn't? Hopefully the memories here will remain with me in the future. I probably just fear I won't find another game like this.
>___> look at me talking like this is the end. I'll be around. The big update could renew the feeling of when I first started playing this game and realized it wasn't a mindless hack and slash for kids. If not, it's best to know when to move on and let the new generation of knights take my place with the "spark of life" I once had.
Welp for now, see you guys in the game. /e waves and walks off into the night . . . . well morning now. . . .
@Retequizzle
Am I really so bad? Really?
@Njthug
I think personally, you are running into the same wall as Draycos, who sadly left us a few weeks ago :(. I can see that you and him share the same trait, you two both urges to see changes happen, both in the game as well as in the gamers, but please, sometimes, changes come with time, but perhaps, it is better off with no changes at all. And also, if I was the OOO developer, I would never listen to some guy typing behind the computer tell me how to make my game, and I certainly wouldn't care how many Pros and Cons you listed. It is my game, you play it, if you like it, you pay some money to support it, end of story.
LEAVE THE GAME BE, OOO WILL WORK IT OUT.
@Fehzor
Great to know your opinion, but being who I am I would never listen to some guy or girl typing behind the computer attempting to well make me realize their opinion is valid. You can feel free to do the same if you wish <69.
Content Rant
Have any of you actually seen the gunner update ? As a game developer myself I can say it's absurd that it's taking almost a year now to finish it. I mean, have they ever heard of how to reuse already existing code ? If so the update should have been out when it was planned in November. It doesn't take long to make models for guns and it certainly doesn't take long to basically copy and past the same code, modify a bit of it and swap in the new model for the gun.
^ that is for everyone saying "maybe OOO needs more man power"
Also for those who are going to say : "Well they might have other content releases in there too like the new boss, new missions and arcade redux. They also done promos with new content bla bla".
So you mean that, it takes a year so write new AI for a boss mechanic ? I could write 1 line of code lets say 15 minutes and be done by the end month with time to spare. And any programmer worth a damn writes a ton more. (just fyi, that'd be 2880 lines of code in a normal 30 day month). There's already available map generation code available for reuse in new dungeon's, just modify it. All boss levels are pre-mapped any ways which doesn't even require code... So you got a new boss AI, new dungeon's, gunner update and that's like lets we also throw in new monster AI so lets that's say a few months tops. Also can't really say anything about the arcade redux because so far all we've gotten for it are the barriers and buffs for the knights which should take a laughable amount of time to program.... otherwise since I don't really know the extent of the update I cannot really comment on how long it should take.
-Grinch was essentially gremlins and a new mapped place.... only the boss had different behaviour.
-Anniversary event did have new content, kudos.
-Torto event probably had a ton of code back from which to work with from back in the beta.
-AND our last event iirc which required actual man power was apocrea which didn't require much code in my opinion really cause it's mostly new maps, rekins and there's just 2 new monsters...
also a reskin for me is a weapon which holds the same behaviour as another but may or may not have another damage type of status attached to it than the original so for those that might say, apocrea wasn't a rekskin event well it is for me.
Promo Rant
So lets talk about promo's now and to be quite frank, I couldn't care less about them. They can be there or not be there. From a business stand point, yes they do bring in lots of money but so would DLC's and other items which could be added for money(adding an option to buy them with energy also removes that whole BS concept of content existing which is just for pay to win people which would make others mad, items such as the forge pass which paintool suggestion or depot only weapons).
Overall however I do think that OOO does reuse resources in promo's(especially coding ones) and that may be a cheaper and less resource intensive alternative to make money, but then you'd ask where's the resources which are being conserved going cause they don't really seem to be going into the actual content updates.
And also, if I was the OOO developer, I would never listen to some guy typing behind the computer tell me how to make my game, and I certainly wouldn't care how many Pros and Cons you listed. It is my game, you play it, if you like it, you pay some money to support it, end of story.
Is that why you're always bursting with such positivity every time they update?
I want more DLC like OCH, but from what I've heard, promo boxes don't effect the content updates, so I don't think they hurt anyone. I would just prefer more new stuff, like the books of rage. Weapon/armor reskins are cool too.
I personally see nothing wrong with constant promotions; it keeps the game afloat and it's better than not seeing anything at all. They're completely optional and people can choose to either check it out or not. Aside from that, Fehzor pretty much hit the nail on the head.
Aphodite; along the lines it honestly seems... weird that you still have it there if it was a misake. Unless you feel as though the damage has been done and it is redundant to move it at this point... Or you plan on releasing that new content sometime soon.
@Fyedka
Why is this relevant?
@Glacies/Aphrodite
Yes yes, there's nothing wrong with a nice Thursday release.
Well, Aphrodite has made my butthurt about that comment fade away, and coming from a higher up that there is actually changes in motion, makes me feel like my butthurt just got a large ice pack.
Many thanks to Aphrodite.
/Cheer
now that perro has his icepack:
Why is this relevant?
the fact that you're choosing to ask this not only answers your question earlier about whether or not you're "really so bad" as i asserted with the few things i did say, but it also just shores up the foundation of the belief that you (more often than not) genuinely don't know what you're talking about
but i'll break it down for you
it is relevant because if you're going to constantly critique the staff's decisions as if your opinion mattered, and then simultaneously say you would ignore what people are talking about on the other end of the computer screen (which for the record, i would pay to see you do since you've yet to prove you have that level of restraint) then that leaves one of two possibilities:
a) you're openly admitting that your opinion as a player is invalid and that you're wasting your time now, thus making you an idiot
b) that you're getting upset with the staff for doing what you would do if you were in their shoes, thus making you a hypocrite
oh i guess there's the third option:
for the record, option c is the one i'm actually inclined to go with considering a majority of your posts in this thread alone have said essentially a whole lot of nothing. considering the size of these posts, that's a lot of nothing to account for. but i digress. this leads me to believe that if you do have an opinion on something, you're more inclined to draw it out for as long as possible and just "win" a discussion - for lack of a better term - by going on and on about things that are nigh irrelevant. i don't need to point out examples of this, but we can just go to the first post in the thread and how you harped on one single sentence about speaking for majorities instead of the actual discussion. hell, the fact that we're even discussing you as opposed to the promo at this point serves to inflate that point more than anything, since you're keen on making the discussion about yourself.
now if there's ever going to be a time where you try to prove that you can ignore what someone "types behind the computer screen", i'm going to make a suggestion and say let it be now. or not, if you're really that dead set on defending yourself on points that you led people to ask about.
You guys really need to loosen up a bit... I mean, nothing is ever quite true anyways.

You're really just not reading into this enough. Of course I'm not going to say what I mean, that just isn't how I roll. If I did that, then people would understand what I'm saying and maybe even agree with some of it. That would be terrifying and besides- you guys don't really care what I have to think or put into it, so why should I try?
As for "knowing what we're talking about", I don't think any of us really know what we're talking about to the extent really needed much of the time, and the developers most certainly know this and act on it. On certain less development oriented things I do feel that most of us could be reputable. For instance "The brandishes are OP", we can show exactly why we think that with real numbers etc. But for things like "There are too many promotions", yeah, that one isn't gonna go anywhere.
--------------
And what's with the whole gif + name calling thing? Its kind of incredibly disheartening, like I really feel like you're trying to make me feel like garbage on a forums about video games. That is like, the definition of cyber bullying, right there- on the internet + attacking my self esteem. Is there something you would like to talk about?
There isn't much left for me to say here. I think it's all been said with various degrees of finesse. I don't feel as if I'm entitled to any compensation; it was an honest mistake. (Although that isn't saying I wouldn't like compensation. How do you go wrong with no-strings-attached free stuff?)
...I just thought of something else for the art team to do. TO THE SUGGESTIONS FORUM!
So anyway, y'all thinking the Gunner Update will be out by next Wednesday?
Can't you see? It's NEVER coming! They intend on stringing us along forever. And you have Fehzor to thank for that.
well its nice to see that they release the promo and not the content that will come with the promo, i mean who would want to play such content? all what we care its costumes! im glad they released it. probably the content wouldnt worth anyway the time spent. i mean we obviosly want to look sooo fancyyy and fashion! instead playing something new. ;) *wink*
I'm actually very happy for the fact that there was no update this week because quite some of the people playing SK right now have exams so it won't be a very wise move for OOO to announce the update this weeks or next week since people will be too busy having their exams.
So I really hope the update will come 2 weeks later or so,plus raging as never solved any kind of problem in life,by having players raging you are influencing the poor developers who are working so hard for the community. REMEMBER quality update =lots of dedicated time working on it :)
BTW I really like the books and I have the feeling that the books are somehow linked and related to the Owlites, which if it easy that is some sweet detail ;3
it also makes me more excited that we might see some more magic and huge style variations in the next updates of SK X3 .
"inb4 Aphrodite gets a two day ban for posting spoilers ヽ( 。 ヮ゚)ノ"
She rather should get increase, two days of holiday and box of chocolates, cause she's only OOO employee that actually decided to write something useful on forums. Aphrodite is GM of the week for me now. ;w; /hug
This thread has salt and sarcasm leaking from every edge of it.
It smells awful in here.
Small developnt team, high expectations. Best of luck to you guys/girls/martians at OOO. Gunner powah!
Also, whoever posted the comment that upset Aphrodite must feel like a real %*#&@/% right now. No one upsets the goddess of lurve. NOBODY.
Would you eat me?
OMG NEW CONTENT WAS DELAYED!
NO WAY!
That like... NEVER happened before :O
Hey, at least they were semi transparant about the affair this time.
That's like a 50% improvement.
Sorry for the snark in that, but to me that's still the biggest issue that has never been addressed.
> art team =/= coding team
So? Spoiler alert, Gunner update last time it was on test server had *exactly 0* totally new stuff. Unless OOO hardcoded everything to be exact "that", all there was could be done in month or two. It's not rocket science to switch around a few numbers and have game acknowledge some new items that have exactly the same functionality.
*exactly 0* totally new stuff.
I think you're forgetting about the parts that are not guns.
Because those new armor sets are pretty much "totally new" in my book.
Damage vs x/asi/damage/ctr for handguns/bombs/swords and movement speed are all things we've seen before. If the handgun armors focus exclusively on these things, and don't add to the way handguns/armor really work at all , then I'd hardly consider them to be the "great big new thing" that we're all wanting for.
New weapons will have new stats switched around, but might have new features to their attack pattern. Armors and helmets get the short end of the stick as they have no direct offensive capabilities(for chaos to be an offensive item, you need a weapon. Shields have a shield bash).
The art is new, the stat setup is new. In my book, that is "totally new". There's only so much you can do with armors and helmets.
Tortodrone shields were totally new in my book as well, as they gave us new stats to work with on shields while also giving a unique(ish) shield bash. Pulsars were totally new when the roarmulus twins came out, as they were new weapons with new a new bullet. In the same respect, quicksilver gear (not just mercurial) was totally new, as it gave us armor that defended against a status mixed with a defense type that had no shock resistance prior.
Our definitions differ.
For me, new is an odd word in this game. It could mean the same thing with different stats such as the Obsidian Carbine, or, a innovatively new weapon such as the Pulsar.
Maybe for the armors to be completely "new" is that rather then putting on things such as ASI and MSI, maybe add some new things to the bunch, such as reload speeds and magazine sizes.
This however would come with problems such as Blitz Needle getting +3 volleys along with things like the Antigua line getting 9 bullets and a virtually nonexistent reload time. Making a knight some kinda extremely mobile machine pistol wielding death machine.
Anyways, the weapons/armors that are coming out either way will still be fresh and new if they have status and resistance combos that are not currently in the game. Not innovative, but surely new.
The reason I point this out is that all of the stats you could possibly want are already in game right now and then some. Since armor does NOT maintain a fine balance that works and promotes use of more than a handful of sets, any and all sets added into the game at this point would be relatively meaningless unless they made some sort of a tradeoff or otherwise did something out of the ordinary.
The best example of this is shadow armor- Dread Skelly Helmet is basically a downgrade from the kat hats, which are in turn basically worse in every way than the black kat cowl. You don't need, and shouldn't need, to get all of these items to be able to beat content. So what if I made another kat cowl? Would that really improve the situation? Maybe it would be the best thing, but that would be power creep and we don't need that.
So if the devs were to release some new gunner armor without considering this, it would either:
A) Make something useless
B) Be useless itself
Lets see, what new gunner armors are we all hoping for... something for FSC:
CTR+Fire+Elemental = conflicts with mask of seerus
CTR+Fire+Shadow = conflicts with armor of the fallen
Damage+Fire+Shadow = Shadowsun is now useless
Damage+Fire+Elemental = Volcanic/Arcane Salamander just took a huge blow; 3 class armors to outclass them easily
There just isn't a way around it, because the developers haven't planned this out for there to be. If anything, they shouldn't be doing a "gunner update" at all-- what we need is an armor/shields+bomber update.
>unique(ish) shield bash
Which is kind of "new". But not really
>For me, new is an odd word in this game. It could mean the same thing with different stats such as the Obsidian Carbine, or, a innovatively new weapon such as the Pulsar.
I defined "new" as a "new gimmick/feature that never was before". New would be dual wielding, critical hits, HP regen, all that stuff that is not rebalanced/switched around gear. Gunner update as of now affords while something different in relation to balance (actually piercing Iron Slug [BAH SPOILER ALERT], switched around Catalyzer, new and yet redundant sets of armor bada bada bada) nothing REALLY new. I could slap Fire on my Polaris or making Shadow Blitz while having a tea - that's not hard and that's not new
And while art team did a good job with armors (they're badS looking), coding wise - eh?
Considering the job posting has been up for a very long time and content-based releases while being talked about, are constantly being delayed, it's a pretty safe assumption to go by.
But, remember: without money you can't hire more people. There's a balance that needs to be struck and until they can safely start bringing in money, hiring more people can be risky. (More paychecks to write, etc. Plus nobody wants to work for a company that isn't sure they can afford to keep you!)
