Short post is short.

((@ Draykon and Tear: Glad we can be of entertainment. XD

@Azure: No repayment needed, for sure ... a good roleplay is one of my chief amusements in life, so this is really less work, more play. As long
as you'll indulge my being a drama llama every so often. XD Credit where it's due to Za-Ck, too, who is the best brainstorm partner ever, and has been really good about taking care of overreaching story stuff.

As far as the knights go ... I don't have any real desire to control all of them (especially being unsure what you have in mind for this), but I'll keep Brastley somewhat updated.

Also ... new page! This is short because I'm very tired. Going to let Vakros react to the message first, rather than Bettit. If I'm forgetting someone I should be writing, let me know.))

Brastley

Brastley grimaced as Captain Kara relayed her message to H.Q. Apart from the presence of the Defiler being a disaster in the making (particularly so close to Haven), he worried that any delay here could jeopardize his own mission. Surely the team he was supposed to meet would wait for him, but he wasn't positive of their timetable or the urgency of their message.

Going to the window to observe the scene with the new recruits, Brastley awaited orders.

Mialii

Mialii was perplexed. "No, I really don't know about the frozen gremlin ... I've been in this tent the whole time." Her spectral brow furrowed a bit and she paused. "Perhaps we do need a messenger. You're very swift, so I'm sure you'll be very good at it. Please do fill me in on what I've missed outside, though. I recall a bit of a commotion, but it was rather muffled."

Truth be told, the spookat nurse was usually a bit out of the loop; when she had a task, she tended to stick to it, and she didn't often attend much to anything else. As a result, gossip often went right over her head.

((Reply to Ninza, below: If a cycle is a day, I think a centi-cycle is closer to 15 minutes, give or take 5. I'm not feeling the mathing enough to pull out a calculator. :P That's my fault, though, having written "half a centi-cycle" as about an hour a couple pages ago when I meant "half a deci-cycle". Fixed it on page 9.

EDIT: lol ... what is a quicent-cycle?))

Doing some more IMF raiding

Trying to remember the layout of the munitions plant, Tickafir sneaked through the noise filled weapons factory. "Let's see, was it left up around right right left, or left left down over right under? Rust! This place gets more confusing every time!" He mumbled angrily in his head, "This will be easier when I don't need to watch out for surveillance. I hope." He decided to go left right down over around in, but it was a dead end, with a weird looking vehicle at the back. "This looks like that war tank project Dandir was working on, but smoother and more compact. Hey! If I bring the Renegades a working weapon, maybe that will help my case! I will have to find more." Marking this spot electrically with his Darkfang wand, Tickafir went back to looking for the security room, but with a small skip in his step. Not even paying attention very well, he failed to notice a small shadow, flickering from corner to corner behind him, until he heard a quiet buzz of a saw. Quickly rolling forward, a handsaw shot straight through where his neck was just instants before! "Ghostmane! he thought, jumping to his feet and whirling around, just barely dodging another saw, which cut his shoulder instead. Blocking a blow to his face, he kicked a gear behind the gremlin's foot, and hit at the devious ninja's chest. As the elite stepped back to avoid getting hit, he tripped over the gear, rolling backwards up onto his feet, then turned and ran towards an exit. "If he gets away, then the whole factory will know I'm here!" Thinking quickly, Tickafir shot a bolt from his wand at a hinge on a nearby door, knowing the Ghostmane would just dodge the bolt, but he couldn't dodge an entire door falling on him! Shedding his cloak, he took the others and put it on, putting his own in a bag, then dashed for the exit to the higher workers passages. Following the signs to the camera base, which couldn't be found in the normal working zone, the young gremlin stopped outside, and thought up a plan. Quietly opening the door, he slipped in and ghosted up to the leader, then grabbed him and twisted him around, snapping in the unfortunate employee's face, "Seerus wants you out, now!"
"Bu-bu-but sir, we have to stay here and guard the factory!" he stuttered, almost fainting from fear. "Do I have to show you how much I really care about that? Now get out! You can come back in two centi-cycles." he snarled at the guard, hurling him out, "And the rest of you, do I need to show you also?" Watching as they ran for the door, he felt a little bit sorry for playing on their fear of the Crimson Order, but he had work to do. Getting to said work, the mechanic opened the panels on the controls, and fiddled with the gears and wires, making it so the factory would appear all fine and dandy, and there would be no easy signs of tampering. Heading out, the disguised gremlin continued his mission.

((whoo! now i know why you guys post such long stories, that was fun! oh man, this is so long XD ok, im not sure how the whole time thing works, i got confused right at the start, but tev explained, so quicent-cycle is just a mix of words that basically means an hour. and that vehicle looks like the picture made by Robobucks, found here- http://forums.spiralknights.com/en/node/23657?page=4#comment-309304 -used with permission.))

((edit again-replay to above @tev a quicent-cycle was me making up a word for four centi-cycles, because quad is four. i was just screwin around i think))

idea for times

((looking back at tev's thing about what each time means, what is a cycle really?
Mercury=59 Earth days, Venus=243 Earth days Mars=24.5 Earth HOURS, etc, etc, etc.
lol, just trying to be complicated here, but y not let the cycles be how long it takes the elevators to cycle left 1 space in the arcade--> 2 days. just figured it would seem more relevant to the setting this way

then:
millicycle=3 minutes, centicycle= about 30 minutes,
decicycle= about 5 hours, semicycle=1 day, cycle=2 days,
decacycle=about a month (20 days, but whos counting anymore XD)
after that the increments increase too dramatically to be practical, so ima go out on a wing here and make up some sensible suggestions
arch (like that of a circle)=half year (by their standards, if u assume that if 2 of our days = 1 of theirs, then 2 years = 1 of theirs, and would make this a 1/4 revolution around an assumed central point such as the sun)
semiorbit=1 year, orbit=2 years
sensible enough? well im proud of it anyway... this took a bit of work, actually :3

HOORAY for overboard nerdiness XD
but if u really wanna stick with the 1-day thing, just divide these in half, but then u get really screwy times to work with))

((ALSO... IC))
Elias was thoroughly engrossed in thought as he approached Snarp, he wasnt even sure if the shiny bubble had even noticed him yet. "Are you Elias and Snarp?" a sudden voice piped, "You are to report immediately to the main tent for an important update to your impending reconnaissance mission." Elias barely had a chance to turn around and glance the purple streak as it dashed back to its next task.
"Really gotta get me some of their coffee..." he murmured. Snapping out of his daze with a shake of his head, he continued, "I guess we're on the move again, oh burnished blob." Meeting Terrar had made him feel more willing to talk, but he still felt awkward after his little alliterated attempt at humor. He started toward the central tent, hoping the quicksilver would follow.

Times and a little bit of a checkup

((That's a good idea for the times, Treaman. I don't really remember who came up with a cycle=a day, but at first I thought a cycle was a year. XD What does everyone else think?

... we seem to have fallen off the front page again. Hope everyone is doing alright, since I've seen some of our players (including those who are usually active posters throughout the Treasure Vault) missing from the forums entirely the past few days.))

Finally, enough time to post. :D

Mialii told Terarr that she didn't know about the frozen gremlin. "Well, I don't know much about it, ether, seeing that I just got here when it happened. I don't even know what it was about, but I can tell you all I know. When I got here, I was going to look for the leader, not thinking about how to find him. Then a pit boss told me to go chase after a gremlin. I didn't know why I was needed, because there was already a bunch of Renegades chasing him. He got to an elevator, and just before he left, he got frozen in place by who knows what." Answered Terarr. "That's all I know, sorry. And answering your fast comment, there is a lot of devilites faster then I am. I came to the Renegades before I started working in one of the factories, so I'm not as fast as I could be."

The Yesman darted off in a randow direction, probably to do some important task. Vakros wondered how anyone, or anything, could consantly live with a strict schedule, places to see, people to meet, things to do. He was much more of a layed back sorta guy, or at least he thought he was. Hoped he was.

"Soo.. do you think we'll finally get some sort of explanation as to what we're supposed to do?" As he finished, his brow furrowed in annoyance.

"They better, or I swear I'm gonna go to Rultaos personally and..." He stopped there, as he was uncertain of what he would do to Rultaos. Probably ask him nicely, considering it would be a giant stone horse-like knight thingy versus a Gremlin if it came to a fight. A Mender at that.

"We better get going before that Yesman comes back, they're pretty dangerous."

The yesman dashed off, leaving Elias and Snarp standing there to contemplate their new instructions.
The phantom made some remark about coffee and burnished blobs, but Snarp was already speeding towards the central tent as fast as one could when one was a conductive blob that went incredibly fast when shocked.
Snarp screeched to a halt near the entrance and waited for Elias and whoever else was being called.
((Bluh, incredibly short post since there's not much to do.))

Moving along ....

Mialii

"Interesting ..." Mialii answered slowly once Terarr had run out of words. His explanation honestly didn't help much, but it was likely none of her business anyway. Gremlins were alive, after all.

The nurse was about to say something else when she heard a stirring and a faint "Mew" behind her. Turning, she saw Konjuring Kat opening his eyes blearily and gazing at her in a disoriented sort of way.

"Oh!" she squeaked, and turned to Terarr. "Excuse me- my patient is waking up." With that, she floated to Kat's bedside to do an examination.

"How are you feeling?" Mialii used her most soothing purr to speak to the groggy spookat. "You've been out for quite awhile."

((Either Terarr can do something here, or I'll do some fast-forwarding in my next post as Mialii.))

* * * * *

Bettit

Bettit stared after the Yesman for a moment - she had never actually seen one close up before, so this was really the first time she had seen one clearly - before picking herself up from the grass and dusting off her pants as she contemplated Vakros' question.

"I'm not sure ... he said it was an update, not a clarification," she said slowly, cocking her head to the side at the mender's aborted tirade. The young demo couldn't help but grin because he sounded so silly, and reached over to knock the back of her hand against his arm with a laugh.

"Yeah, let's just go."

((I'm going to leave it at this for the moment and write up the actual contents of the update meeting after I get a little sleep. See you guys in about four hours! XD EDIT (two hours later): Toddlers need to learn the fine art of sleeping in.))

* * * * *

The Update Meeting

The three Pit Bosses stood a ways behind Takun and watched the named mission members enter the tent.

First was the blue phantom, clutching his armful of scrolls and papers. He looked a bit contemplative, and was closely followed by a quicksilver (about whom the Pit Bosses could tell little ... they always had trouble reading slimes). A few moments later, a pair of gremlins arrived: an oddly-colored male and a small female. They were talking quietly, but became silent as the tent flap fell into place behind them. The male looked a bit annoyed, while the other seemed more amused.

"Thank you for arriving in such a timely manner," Takun greeting with his usual placid ease. "We've learned something which may affect your missions and it was important that we imparted it to you before you left to fulfull them."

He paused while his words were met with nods or murmurs of acknowledgement.

"After the unfortunate events this afternoon, Gassek, Fautren and Aslend-" here Takun indicated the Pit Bosses behind him "-recieved information from the perpetrator that the Crimson Order may have a way to track the movements of members of The Clockwork Renegades." He let this sink in a moment before continuing. "This has not been fully substantiated - and if it is the case, we do not know their methods - but with the four of you and any you choose to include on your missions going into gremlin territories, we felt it necessary to alert you to the possibility."

The Pit Bosses watched as the expression on the faces of the phantom and gremlins changed. They still couldn't figure out what the quicksilver was thinking.

Takun turned to Elias and Snarp. "You mission was already a dangerous one; this adds a certain additional risk. The specifics have not changed, but keep in mind the possibility that as watchers, you may be also watched."

The stranger then turned to Vakros and Bettit. "While you will not be going into Colony territory, it would be easy for agents of the Crimson Order to hide among the gremlins of Emberlight. Considering this, you will need to be particularly selective when speaking to possible recruits. Do any of you have questions?" He added to all four of them.

The Pit Bosses stood by; there was always the possibility that any questions would require answers from them.

Rising tension

((Managed to get some time for IC. Let's get a move on, I bet all the RP'ers are itching to get out of the vault by now :) ))

Rultaos

Rultaos had sharpened his sword, but refrained from cleaning his armor and shield. If he was going to play the part of a survivor, he had to look like one. [I just hope that this works, there's no way the 2 of us would survive the full force of the Citadel warriors bearing down on us] He thought as he emerged from his tent and was covered in the artificial light of of the vault.

He would find Hanaphs, tell him about their roles, and then begin the journey to Vanaduke's empire. He found the Slag guard with a Devilite once again. [Strange, it's the first time I've seen a Devilite that wasn't always busy, and I've lived with them for some time, back when I served The Citadel] Rultaos thought.

He approached the duo that was chatting merrily and spoke to the green Slag-guard. "Hanaphs, I never received a reply if you were coming with me to the Firestorm Citadel. If you are still interested, then get ready as we are to leave as soon as possible. I will explain the details of our mission on the way there. What do you say?" Rultaos asked the peculiar soldier. He stood patiently as he awaited a reply.

Tier 1 team

"Alright everyone listen up! The Spiral Order didn't train you just to have you soil your armor in the heat of battle. Keep calm and do as I say, understood?" Captain Kara said. "M-Ma'am yes ma'am!" The recruits said in unison, but with a noticeable fear in their voices. "I've contacted The Order about this and orders are as follows: Push forward and get to the nearest ascension elevator to return to Haven. Any questions?" She said to the team.

The recruits remained silent, but the one in a magic hood and cloak said "Ma'am, what was that 'thing' we saw leading the green monsters?". Kara sighed and said "That, was The Defiler. He's on the top of The Order's most wanted list and even put a large bounty for his head. This is an unknown enemy we're facing so be cautious." Kara looked towards the 2 recruits and said "Nomata, Trivoc, stick together and do as I say." She turned towards the Engineer and said "Brastley, stay close to me and provide supportive fire. Don't do anything rash".

Brastley could tell from the look in Kara's eyes the hidden message in her orders [Don't get yourself killed, or it's going to be on MY head]. He nodded and loaded his Kilowatt Pulsar and prepared his Shockburst Brandish. The other 3 did the same. Tension filled the air as their elevator drew to a halt.

"Trivoc, take point and take down anything before it gets too close." She said to the Magic knight wielding a Blaster. "Nomata, guard the rear and eliminate all hostiles that try to flank us." she said to the knight in Emberbreak armor holding a Calibur. "Me and Brastley will provide cover fire." Kara said as she produced a Blackhawk handgun. "Keep your eyes peeled, stick together, and listen for my orders; we should get through this alive. Now let's go!" Kara said as she ordered Trivoc to move up.

Brastley hoped that these recruits would be skilled enough to survive a scenario like this. Even if they were unprepared, the right skill can still pull a squad through a surprise.

A lot of thoughts.

The kat nurse, Mialii, went over and checked on Konjuring Kat and said that she would be busy for a bit. "No problem." Terarr said as he left the tent. He looked at the artificial sky. Was it just him, or did it seem to be darker then last time he saw it. "Oh well, if it's a problem then I'll leave it to the officials. It's probably my imagination." He thought to himself ((Not that he could think to someone else, but it sounded better then just "He thought")). Terarr wondered when the mission would start. It's already been a while, and it looked as if it was already planed. What was keeping everyone back? Terarr knew that he and a lot of others weren't going anywhere because nobody old them to, but what was keeping the leaders from telling everybody else to go now? Was it because the leaders thought that there was something out there so they only wanted to get the missions started if they had to? "This wait is making me think things. Come on, danger? What could stop the Renegades?" He mumbled. But he didn't convince himself. The wait was defiantly making Terarr nervous.

Mialii and Konjuring Kat

Once Mialii had examined Konjuring Kat and deemed him fit for travel, the two spookats emerged from the tent into the endless artificial sunshine of the Treasure Vault. Being ghosts, they didn't need much in the way of supplies, so their only luggage was a small pouch containing the nurse's tools that she carried by a strap.

"I'll go ahead and meet our escort," Konjuring Kat told his nurse. "Since you were going to go and find our devilite."

"Oh yes, Terarr should be around here somewhere," Mialii purred in response, watching Kat head toward the place they were slated to meet the contingent of zombies that were to accompany them to Moorcroft. The little devilite couldn't have gone far, so she didn't think it would take too terribly long to find him. Hopefully he would be ready to go when she did.

The Slag guard stood up with his spear and shield, and nodded. "Of course I'm coming." He replied Rultaos. "I'm ready anyways, it doesn't take much for undead to get ready." Hanaphs chuckled. It made 'life' so much easier not having to eat, drink, breathe, or anything like that. Maybe staying away from water was an exception.

The devlite saluted the higher authority. "Well, best of luck to you." The devlite wished. "My vacation will be over soon. I have to going now." The devlite then ran off as if he was late for something.

Hanaphs turned back to the Trojan. "I am ready. May I ask your reason for coming to Firestorm Citadel?" The Citadel Guardian asked, then waiting for an answer or a, 'not here, too many people around.'

Some more boring IC.

Terarr looked around and saw people all ready to go on their missions. "Oh, no!" Terarr cried. "Everybody's ready to go but me! I don't even know where to get supplies. Oh, I know! I'll ask Mialiii. I hope she knows where to get some stuff." Terarr did a detour and headed back to the medical tent. Then he saw Mialii already out. He rushed over to the female spookat. "Mialii, do you know where I could get some supplies? I just noticed that it's almost time to go!"

Mission: Go!

Dagren finally let out a snarl of exasperation. The gremlin mechanic and his 2 construct party members could find no trace of their supposed final member at all, no matter where they looked. When they had asked around about an odd Retrode, they didn't find much; just that a few Renegades had seen it causing a commotion at the combat training area earlier. It was as if the construct had just vanished into thin air.

"ARGH! We don't have time for this!" Dagren exclaimed, obviously both stressed-out and in a very bad mood. The gremlin sat down on a rock, burying his face in his hands. Fridge, feeling sorry for him, began to pat him gently on the back in a comforting gesture. Dagren then gave Fridge a death-glare that the naive and oblivious Cryo Knight simply missed.

Rubbing his hands over his face again, Dagren stood up.
"Alright, it is obvious that we aren't getting anywhere with this search," He said. "We'll simply have to go without him."

He motioned for the Lumber and the Mecha Knight to follow his lead, and they all stepped onto an unoccupied elevator. Dagren took out a sheet of paper that had both the current elevator schedule and the location of the terminal they were supposed to meet their knight escort at. After deftly punching several buttons, the elevator shuddered into motion and they began their ascent.

---a bit later---

After taking a ride on several elevators, they finally came across a gloomy and dark place, lit only by a scant few magical candles. The entire area had a somewhat creepy and foreboding feel to it, although it also strangely gave an air of a place that once held great wisdom. Dagren scanned the area carefully and stepped out of the hidden elevator shaft, followed by his teammates.
"Alright, last stop before we get to our destination." He muttered as he glanced around cautiously. "There should be an elevator here that takes us directly to the terminal we are shooting for."

Dagren couldn't help but shake the feeling that something was wrong though. It wasn't just the normal uneasiness that accompanied these Candlestick Keeps; there was also the feeling that something was here that shouldn't be. Dagren's instincts constantly screamed "Danger!" at him, and he didn't like it one bit. Fridge was a bit confused at Dagren's nervousness, but he trusted that Dagren knew what he was doing. As they explored deeper into the level, Dagren's feeling of uneasiness just grew.

The keep was strangely empty for one thing; normally they would have encountered the native inhabitants of this realm, chiefly being Spookats and Grimalkins. However, there were none to be seen at all. In addition, they ran into the occasional cloud of hazy green mist that left Dagren in a coughing fit. It also seemed to have corrosive properties, seeing as both TS13 and Fridge were beginning to show signs of rusting on their metallic components.

At last, they came across some sort of sound instead of the uneasy silence that had permeated the area so far: the sound of battle.

Dagren and his team carefully peered around the corner, and what they saw shocked them. It was a small squad of knights valiantly defending themselves against a horde of sickly green creatures, all lead by a grotesque abomination of mismatched monsters. Fridge immediately remembered its name: The Defiler. Their last conflict with it still was fresh in his memory banks.
Dagren had heard of the mutant himself, but had never seen it with his own eyes. He grimaced. The descriptions didn't come anywhere close to conveying the malformed horror that was its body.

Dagren took a closer look at the team of knights. Among them, he saw a knight that fit the description of the knight that was supposed to be their escort.... "Brastley" if he remembered right. At this rate, the knights would tire themselves out and succumb to the endless swarm of infected Clockworks creatures. Dagren didn't like it, but it looked like they had no choice.

"We're going to have to rescue them." stated Dagren with a grim look on his face. It was strictly forbidden to reveal themselves to knights, but in this case, he thought it was necessary to bend the rules a little, especially if it meant both the success of the mission and saving some innocent lives. Dagren reached back and unstrapped his Thwack Hammer and got himself into a ready stance.
Fridge could see the seriousness of the situation and got into a ready position as well, drawing his sword and shield.

"Alright, we have the element of surprise," Dagren stated, still observing the situation. "Our goal isn't to defeat the enemy, it is to merely provide an opening for those knights to escape to the elevator." He then pointed at Fridge.
"You are the most battle-capable here, lead the opening assault and serve as a distraction; take the big guy as backup, you'll need it." With this, he pointed a thumb back at the large Lumber behind them. Fridge nodded in understanding. "I'll go and grab the knights and lead 'em to the elevator. When I give the signal, break away from the enemy and run to the elevator yourselves. Got it?" Both constructs gave their signs of affirmation.

Fridge then immediately ran out into the open, charging his sword on the way there. The enemy was startled, and they turned away from the cornered knights for a second. With a battle cry, Fridge got ready to leap and use his signature "flash-freeze" move that he had used on that gremlin traitor earier.

Unfortunately, things didn't go as planned.

A random malfuction ran through Fridge's system, causing him to trip and fall on his face halfway there, sending his sword spiraling into the air. Everyone was in a stupefied silence as they stared the Mecha Knight lying there on the ground. Dagren facepalmed.
Just as the enemy snapped out of their stupor and were about to swarm the Mecha Knight though, his sword landed and impacted with the ground, blasting a gale of frigid air in all directions. Even though it wasn't as strong as if Fridge was actually holding the weapon itself, it did manage to freeze quite a few enemies in place and disoriented a few more from the blast. TS13 then took this opportunity to enter the battle fray itself.
Dagren proceeded to sneak around the commotion, trying to reach the knights who were still stuck in their position. He just hoped he could reach them in time...

((And that's that. Windsickle, once again I took minor control of your character; but you were okay with it last time, so I just went with it here. Azure-Orbit, now it is your time to write on what happens next from both the Defiler and the Knights' points of view. I look forward to it!))

Scharr Scharr had a natural

Scharr

Scharr had a natural connection to the IMF, a certain wireless access that let him into any systems of the factory. He could access the surveillance cameras without having to directly plug into the mainframe. He could disable certain security mechanisms. Sometimes, he nullify a construct threat entirely by simply overriding its code. All of this was because he was build here, built to be the first of a line of ultimate protectors of the IMF.

At some point, the Gremlins had actually believed that the IMF would win them the war. Being sent to work there was a great honor, and for a time, it seemed certain that the factory would produce endless rows of invincible constructs.

The first of these constructs to be fully completed was the Roarmulus project. It seemed perfect. Knights hate gun puppies, so why not make them bigger? It seemed like a good idea at the time. But alas, they were fatally flawed. It ended up that any competent squad of knights could breeze through them with minor troubles.

After this, hopes for the IMF's success were crushed. Combined with dwindling gremlin support for the war, the IMF fell nearly into ruin. Eventually, Seerus took it over and turned it into his personal workshop.

But none of that history mattered now to Scharr. He tapped into the cameras once again, in order to check whether the path ahead was clear of gremlins. As he did so, there was a flicker, and the cameras went dead for a moment. When they came back online, Scharr noticed that certain hallways were set to play an empty loop of hallway.

One of those hallways was the one he was in. Behind him, he heard the distinctive footsteps of a gremlin, about to come around the corner.

Re connection and combat

((Sorry for my absence, my internet died and we had quite the time trying to get it back on >_<. Hopefully it won't happen as often. Now back to RP'ing))

Rultaos

"Of course I'm coming. I'm ready anyways, it doesn't take much for undead to get ready." The Slag guard replied with a chuckle. He was definitely different from the others Rultaos had seen; most the other warriors of The Citadel were serious and brutal, seeing one that wasn't was a refresher.

"Well best of luck to you. My vacation is almost over and I have to get going now" The Devilite said as he saluted. The small worker then proceeded to run off in the same fashion as his brethren. Hanaphs then turned back to Rultaos. "I am ready. May I ask your reason for coming to Firestorm Citadel?" He said. Rultaos nodded and replied "I will explain on the way, I want to get this finished as soon as possible- wait, I almost forgot." He interrupted himself as he called a Gremlin artisan. "I want you to paint my mane grey. If you want an explanation then listen as I speak to him." Rultaos said, pointing at the Slag guard.

As the Gremlin returned with a container of grey liquid, Rultaos spoke. "I am sure that you are familiar with the missions to Moorcroft, Emberlight, and Haven correct? What we are going to do is similar to that. We are heading to Firestorm Citadel to gain recruits for the assault on the Grand palace. I've contacted one of my friends there and he has agreed to disguise us as members of the 28th Ember Phalanx. they are supposed to be KIA and we are to pose as survivors." Rultaos paused as the Gremlin stepped on his crystal making him grunt; the artisan apologized quickly as he finished off the paint. "Once inside, we will meet with Captain Achilles; the Knightmare that's helping us get inside. Hopefully, he can help us get some friends on the inside too..." Rultaos finished as he walked to the nearest elevator and gestured for Hanaphs to follow.

As the two of them boarded, Rultaos hit the descend button. "If we're lucky, maybe we can find someone who knows something about The Grand colony that we don't." He said as their elevator went deeper into the Clockworks. First stop, Dark City.

The Defiler

The Defiler could almost laugh at how weak the Keep's defense was. The attack certainly didn't last long, and now they just had to finish off a squad of Knights that unluckily stumbled upon them.

His army of assimilated creatures continued bearing down on the Knights that were fighting for their lives.

The Defiler launched a pack of missiles at the group but didn't have time to notice what happened as he looked behind him. The Cryo Knight and Redward from Moorcroft. He glared at them as he thought [They just don't give up do they?]. "This time you wont escape!" He shouted at them as he charged at the Mecha Knight lying on the floor, his jelly arm taking the form of a battering ram.

Tier 1 team

Kara was dazed from the chaos of the battle, and so were the recruits. Apparently, the monsters of the Keep didn't like the Defiler as much as the Knights did and had battled with his mindless army. Unfortunately, Candlestick Keep's defenses just weren't enough to push back The Defiler's forces and soon it was only their team fighting a losing battle against the seemingly endless horde of assimilated.

They had taken their share of casualties. Trivoc was incapacitated and was lying on a wall, shooting down anything that came close. Nomata was fighting bravely with her Brandish and punch gun, but she was losing stamina; it was only a matter of time before she collapsed. Brastley was having a hard time as anyone, He was fighting back several enemies with his Shockburst and his Kilowatt Pulsar was running low on ammo.

As she thought about all of that and trying to think of how to get her squad out of there, an assimilated Droul leaps from a ledge in an attempt to grab her. She shoots it out of the air with the Blackhawk. [If we ever get out of here alive, I'm going straight to the Order about them letting a team of recruits into a fight against The Defiler!] she thought.

In the middle of her fighting, she notices a Gremlin Thwacker that didn't seem assimilated, and heading towards them. [Well, the enemy of my enemy is a friend] she thought as she fired at another group glowing a sickly green that had also taken notice of the Gremlin and was moving up behind it. "Get over here! I'll cover you!" She shouted at the Gremlin, hoping that it would be able to assist them.

So much for maps

Everything had happened so fast; he had gotten lost, finally found some maps, ended up sidetracked by Terrar, and found Snarp only to be called back without getting a good 5 minutes glance at any one of the charts... and now he already had to LEAVE!
He approached the tall cloaked figure at the head of the room, "uhmm..." he held up the armful of charts.
Takun received them under his own arm and reminded Elias of his name, "did you get a chance to check through them?" Elias dropped his head in distress. "Might i suggest just taking routes that will lead down and northward? That is probably where you'll find the easiest point of entry, Just as long as you dont go too far." He handed back 3 of the scrolls to Elias. "These should help more than those others, it should lead you somewhat close the Grand Palace perimeter, though there are a few locations you will have to pass that may not be on them, so that could cause problems. Best of luck to you both, farewell."
Elias checked the charts, and saw tunnels and wilderness, and luckily no haunted areas... though that may be part of the 'unmapped sectors.' "Well Snarp, you ready?"

As Elias conversed with Takun, Snarp was already getting ready to go. The quicksilver had slung a satchel filled with video and data modules over its main mass, using one of its thorns to keep the bag on itself. Then it went over to Elias, saying,"Hey, Elias, let's get going. You done yet?"

((Good luck, Azure! Have fun! And hopefully an internet connection.))

Blargh ... I am so slow this week

((Sorry to be unusually slow to update ... this last week has been hectic and my brain has not wanted to write much of anything coherent. The Bettit and Vakros part of the post was an in-game joint effort between Isis and I, so that's why I'm dialoguing Vakky here.))

Mialii

Mialii smiled reassuringly at the little devilite. "Don't worry. We can get all the supplies we need when we meet up with our escort."

The spookat nurse led Terrar to where Konjuring Kat was waiting with half a dozen zombies and made sure he recieved any supplies he felt that he needed. The selection of items available in the Treasure Vault was, by necessity, fairly eclectic; with so many different kinds of creatures all working out of one place, it was hard to tell just what would come in handy.

While Terrar chose his supplies, Mialii floated over to check on Kat and converse briefly with their contingent of zombies; the plan was apprently to recruit in the deeper levels of Moorcroft, where the majority of the undead resided and Knights were unlikely to go. That made sense to Mialii ... Knights never seemed to know what to do with Clockworks denziens that weren't attacking them, and often ended up going on the offensive. It was one of the reasons she had joined the Renegades to begin with; seeing one too many innocent Mewkats cut down. Mialii's ears twitched just thinking about it, making her tiny hat hop a bit.

Once all the supplies were collected and the spookats had a good idea of what they were up to, the group of spookats, zombies, and one little devilite made their way to the elevator. Mialii still wasn't entirely sure what to do with Terarr, as he didn't seem the diplomatic sort, but figured that he was probably right when he said that he would make a good messenger. She and Konjuring Kat may be working in seperate areas, or need to tell the desk clerk something, and the little devilite would probably be the perfect way to take care of that.

Bettit and Vakros

Bettit stood silently as Takun conveyed his message. Yet another people of Cradle she had never seen up close before (he was still rather blurry, but it was closer than she had ever been). When he had finished speaking, the young gremlin furrowed her brows. This didn't clear things up much, but certainly made it a bit harder. She waited until the blue phantom and the quicksilver had left, leaving the two gremlins.

She nudged Vakros. "Do you think we should ask him what we were going to ask Torx, since we don't know where he is?" she whispered to her friend, not wanting to speak aloud to the Stranger if she didn't have to, especially with the three devilites present.

Vakros couldn't help but agree; Torx wasn't around and no one else was forthcoming with the information.

"Could you do it?" Bettit asked in a small voice, looking scared.

The mender was also feeling a bit nervous around Takun, but hesitantly edged over to the towering figure anyway. Bettit stuck by his side (nearly clinging to his sleeve), able to tell that he wasn't too keen on speaking to the Stranger, either.

"Did you have a question?" Takun asked in his usual placid manner as he looked down at the two nervous gremlins.

Vakros stammered something unintelligible, then collected himself and asked Takun if he knew where Torx was, hoping that the old gremlin could explain the situation to the Stranger so that he wouldn't have to do so himself.

Takun cocked his head to the side. "Indeed I don't; we have been unable to contact him regarding the change in plans from his original orders. No doubt you're curious about them yourselves." The Stranger regarded the two gremlins for a moment. "Torx had originally planned to have a mass assault cover his - and subsequently, your - entrance into Emberlight from the Crimson Order. We - Rultaos and I - belived it would be better to shore up our forces before doing so. Even with these extra hands you all are recruiting, there will unfortunately be a great loss of life."

Bettit looked almost horrified at this information. "Do you guys always do things like this?" she whispered loudly.

"What's in that box?" Vakros asked in return, looking at Bettit. He was suddenly a little bit scared of a gremlin who'd sacrifice so much life for a box and couldn't help but wonder what was in something worth the lives of his allies.

"I-I'm not sure..." the younger gremlin stammered. "It's something that my uncle was working on before the Order took him away. It was the reason they did, I guess." She bit her lower lip. "I don't even know if it's as important as Torx thinks it is. Maybe we should go straight there and try to get it anyway. Without Torx. I don't want so many people to fight and die because of it."

"I don't know about that; Torx is the only one who knows what it is," Vakros replied, still whispering, before noticing Takun. The stranger obviously heard him.

Takun merely shook his head. "With the information I just gave you concerning the Crimson Order possibly being able to track our activities ... do what you think is right, but consider what may happen if they do find you and take it."

Vakros thanked Takun and turned to leave with Bettit, who glanced apprehensively over her shoulder at the Stranger as they left. "I really don't know what to do," she said, sounding worried.

The mender didn't know how to answer her; although he wanted to say something comforting, he was also worried.

"Well," Bettit said after a long silence as they walked in what she assumed was no particular direction. "I guess we have until we get down there to think about it."

"Yeah," Vakros replied. "I guess we should do one last check for Torx before leaving."

"You're right," Bettit agreed. "If he's there, maybe he can tell us what's in the box and we can decide what to do based on that. If not ... I guess we just go?" She was silent for a moment. "I don't really want to do this mission," she added in a small voice.

"Just think of all the happy new recruits walking in with us," the mender whispered in return, his eyes somewhere else entirely.

Bettit tried to follow his gaze, then decided he was probably seeing something she never could; something buried in his memory. "Yeah. Happy new recruits," she echoed dully.

Vs. The Defiler

Fridge was currently face-down on the ground, wondering what had happened. One moment he was charging towards the enemy, the next, he was on the floor. However, before he could process anything more, his proximity sensors alerted him to something approaching really REALLY rapidly. At the last second, Fridge rolled out of the way before a large, gelatinous, and thorny mass impacted with the ground, fracturing the floor where his head was a moment before.

The Defiler slowly stood up and grinned at Fridge in a somewhat grotesque way. It was especially creepy seeing that twisted smile on his eerily zombie-like head. With little warning, the monstrous mutant went on the offensive, as his construct arm opened up to reveal an array of missiles, and shot them all towards the Mecha Knight who was still trying to recover from the Defiler's battering ram attack. Fridge raised his shield as the projectiles launched towards him. Although his shield was small, he quickly maneuvered it to intercept the shots towards him. He managed to deflect most of the missiles, but a few still managed to hit him. Luckily the damage done was relatively minor, but he knew he wouldn't last if he kept taking hits like that. With a running leap, Fridge reclaimed his sword from where it had impacted the ground, and once again got into a battle stance. After a moment of sizing up each other, the two opponents charged together to begin their clash anew.

---000---

Dagren was still trying to make his way to the knights. Luckily, one of the knights (the leader probably) was helping keep the enemy off of his back with her gun, but still some enemies were managing to get uncomfortably close. Dagren snarled at a Jelly Cube that was approaching him and smashed it to slimy chunks with a swing of his Thwack Hammer. As he finished off the jelly though, he noticed that some missiles were headed this way!
(This is happening right before the Defiler attacks Fridge and the missiles he had shot at the group before being distracted)

Alarmed, Dagren saw that they were on a direct course with the knight party! As fast as his legs could carry him, he leaped and pushed the knights out of the way, causing the missiles to impact with the wall instead. Unfortunately, they were also incendiary missles, so he caught on fire from the splash damage.

"ARGH!" Dagren flailed around a bit as he attempted to put out the flames that were licking at his fur and clothes. He eventually managed to get control over the flames, but now he was even more singed than before. "This day just keeps getting better and better!" Dagren grumbled to himself.

However, he still had a task at hand, and he took a quick look at the situation. The enemies were still coming, there was no way out, and all he had at the moment was his Thwack Hammer. Maybe he should have thought this out a bit better...
He took a glance at the knights who were staring at him with a sense of curiosity and hope. As much as he didn't want to admit it, he didn't want to let them down. He paused in thought.
Dagren then got an idea. A very dangerous idea, but it might just provide the opportunity to escape.

"Catch!" He yelled at the Defiler, who was currently sparring with Fridge, who was surprisingly holding his own. The Defiler had only a moment to wonder who said that, when he caught a Thwack Hammer to the face. Dagren had flung his Thwack Hammer at the Defiler!

As the knights looked on in horror at what the gremlin had done, the Defiler slowly turned around to face them. His jaw was dislocated and was missing a few of his teeth. And he looked PISSED.
He immediately sent a laser beam at Dagren who quickly dodged. It instead blasted apart an unfortunate infected zombie instead.
Dagren smiled slightly to himself. If he could pull this off, then they should have a way out of this situation.
"Hey you misshapen moron! Ya missed me!" He taunted in an extremely derisive voice.

The Defiler was livid now and while growling in frustration, sent an even bigger laser beam at the impudent gremlin. Again Dagren dodged, and a cluster of infected monsters were vaporized by the intense heat.

"How's that zombie head holding up for ya; how do you even live without a brain?" Yet another blast of energy ensued, and the Defiler was breathing extremely heavily, toxic gasses beginning to seep out of the various holes in its torso.

"You know, I've seen some stupid monsters before, but you really are something else!" Dagren remarked while pretending to strut around arrogantly. "I'd compare you to a slime in the no-brain category, but that would be an insult to slimes really..."

That did it. The Defiler could take no more. Insulting his intelligence was the last mistake this gremlin would make; the Defiler was once a renowned scientist for crying out loud, and NO ONE would demean him like that! (refer to the Defiler's original bio)
With a feral scream of rage, he began attacking anything and EVERYTHING wildly. He shot of lasers, missiles, spiked projectiles, blasts of energy, and various noxious gases were jettisoned into the surrounding air.

"Are you CRAZY?!" yelled the knight in Angelic armor to Dagren. "You just made things worse!"
Dagren in response pointed at the surrounding horde. They were getting caught in the crossfire, greatly decreasing their numbers and in many cases incapacitating them to the point of beyond recovery. Dagren then spotted an opening in the crowd, and began leading the squad out towards the nearest elevator. One of the knights had to be supported by a teammate as they fled from the scene.

Unfortunately, although violent, the Defiler's tantrum was short-lived. As it regained clarity, it noticed that the Knights were escaping! As he got ready to pounce upon them and finally rid himself of the irksome gremlin, he was knocked down by a stunning blow from behind. Not to mention, he was suddenly on fire.

---000---

TS13 had stuck up behind the Defiler while it was distracted and decided to do something useful. With a mighty swing of its arm, the Redward bludgeoned the unsuspecting monster, temporarily stunning the Defiler and also lighting it on fire. In fact, the fire was proving to be an excellent distraction, seeing as the gasses leaking from the Defiler were actually quite flammable and the Defiler was rolling on the ground in pain. TS13 turned towards the retreating knights and saw that one was injured and was currently being supported by a teammate, slowing the entire group down. TS13 approached them, scooped the knight up in its arm, and begun carrying the knight to the elevator much to the knight's surprise.

---000---

Fridge was exhausted from the fight and really needed a recharge. While Dagren was taunting the Defiler, he had retreated and had begun helping holding back the horde alongside TS13. However, he noticed that Dagren was now retreating and waved at him to signal the full retreat. TS13 was already with them, holding an injured knight. Fridge trotted as fast as he could away from the field of battle, now littered with corpses, injured infected creatures, and a screaming, flaming Defiler. Fridge saw everyone get on the elevator, and Dagren was already punching in the coordinates to get everyone out of there. Fridge sped up his trot to a run as he rushed to get on the elevator as well.

On the way there unfortunately, his damaged and stressed systems let out yet another malfunction, sending him careening into the group, thoroughly shocking all of them as well with his body. The group collapsed into a tangled mess of bodies and limbs.

Dagren let out a weak gasp from underneath the body of TS13 as the elevator ascended.
"I really hate that Mecha Knight."

Battle

TS13 watched as they entered the Candlestick Keep. Something had originally held up the team of TS13 but it did not know what, but then, there were many things it did not know. It had never been to a Keep but it was interesting in that it was not entirely different from Moorcraft Manor. The haze around the Keep appeared to be corrosive and possibly harmful though so it decided that they had best rendezvous with their Knight and move on as soon as they could.

They had continued through the Keep with haste but also caution for a time until something changed. Sounds. That was it. There were other signs of change. Signs of battle. They turned a corner and found the source. Sure enough, a battle was in action and beginning to close. A small team of Knights, including the escort of the team of TS13, was quickly being overwhelmed by a large force of assorted sickly creatures. Their Gremlin decided to intervene so they began a surprise attack against the army of poisonous creatures so as to rescue their escort. Q-77 lead their attack with a charge but fell over from a malfunction, sword landing on the floor with an icy blast. The unfrozen enemies began to surround Q-77 but TS13 walked over to protect it slamming its arm into a Droul and a Toxilargo. The Droul was immediately crushed completely but the Toxilargo barely survived the Smash only to be burned away by the combustive powder released from the arm. This was the first time TS13 had ever struck a creature. It was not sure what to think then but thinking back it remembered that it had felt both unpleasant and pleasant at the same time.

The battle was fierce amongst such a variety of enemies of different type and Tier level. TS13 took very large amounts of damage, more than it ever had received. At first it had started by attacking the larger enemies first but it was starting to doubt if this was the most effective. At one time it had been completely surrounded by all manner of hostile monsters and its processor was nearly overloaded with information as it could not decide what to do. It fell to the ground to recover and protect itself thankfully as the surrounding enemies were blown apart by a series of missiles, lasers, and a variety of other projectiles and harmful attacks. It looked to the source and saw the chimera it had encountered earlier recovering from its sudden release of energy. TS13 walked through the smoke and swung down its arm with a final burst of energy atop the chimera before it could attack their Gremlin. TS13 backed away as the chimera attempted to put out the fire. Seeing the Knights and the Gremlin retreat to the exit elevator, TS13 withdrew from the battle to assist the retreat. A couple of the Knights were falling behind the others however, moving slower than even TS13. TS13 saw that the reason for this was that one of them was more badly injured so it picked up the Knight without stopping (it thought that it was getting really good at this) and carried the Knight to the elevator. It knew from the mission information and many other sources that the Clockworks Renegades were supposed to be a secret from the general Knight populace and hoped nothing very bad would happen because of what they had done. Its thoughts were interrupted however as Q-77 finally arrived at the elevator only to malfunction again and electrocute all of which was being carried up the elevator including TS13.

((Apologies once more. I have no excuse. Just hadn't got around to posting. I'll try to be a bit more active and post smaller chunks as appropriate instead of all at once like the above.))

Terarr followed Mialii to where the supplies were. When the supplies came into sight range, he gasped. "I do NOT need that many supplies," was Terarr's first thought. The second was "Why do we need to recruit undead if we have enough Renegades to need this many supplies?" He examined the supplies and saw some REAL traps. "These traps make mine seem like silkwing food." he said to himself as he picked one up. "Surely I'm not aloud to use these things!" But Mialii took him to these things, and nobody was making him leave, as well as the fact that he was going on the mission was all for him taking them. Actually, the fact that he wanted them so badly was mostly the reason he took them without asking, but that's besides the point. He looked at the bombs, and took a few. He also saw some furniture in the supplies. He chuckled at the thought of actually THROWING some. Then he thought, "Why not? All the other devilites do it." But he decided not to. After all, he could throw his traps. Wait, he was on to something. Throwing traps? He always placed them before hand, before. But THROWING them. It was perfect! He thought about that on the way to the elevator. The elevator closed around them, and they plunged into the depths of the clockworks.

((Woah, that was a lot of typing. I now REALLY wish I could do this all the time. It is AWESOME!!! :D))

@Ebilbunny: Exactly how I feel after writing a long IC post :D. Just try not to get too carried away while writing and end up breaking the rules.))

The Defiler
The gelatinous siege weapon smashed into the ground as the Cryo Knight evaded the strike. The attack had put the Defiler into a kneeling position but he had slowly recovered, and was once again ready to fight. He smiled evilly at his foe as he thought to himself [I'm going to make this slow and painful]. Without waiting for a reaction from the Mech, The Defiler fired a swarm of missiles at the constructs. however, the Cry Knight was skilled with his shield and was able to deflect majority of the projectiles that were heading directly at his body.

While his construct arm was cooling down from the attack, The Cryo Knight leaped towards it's sword that was driven in the ground. The two combatants then stared at each other for a good few milli-cycles before charging at one another to continue the fight. The Defiler swung his jelly arm once more at Fridge who dodged out of the way and retaliated with a jumping sword attack to his torso.

The attack caused him to be pushed back. Before he could go back on the offensive someone yelled "Catch!".

The Defiler turned around and before he could react, a Thwack Hammer smashed him on the face. He didn't grunt, but his jaw was out of place and he was so angry that his zombie head could be mistaken for a Slag Walker. Without warning, The Defiler fired a laser beam at the Gremlin that had done it, but the enemy had dodged out of the way and he instead blasted apart one of his assimilated zombies.

"Hey you misshapen moron! Ya missed me!" The Gremlin taunted. The Defiler growled in frustration, charged his construct arm and shot an even more powerful laser at the confident Thwacker, who in turn dodged and The Defiler once more destroyed more of his creatures.

"How's that zombie head holding up for ya; how do you even live without a brain?". This time he wasted no time in charging and firing and destroying more of his army. The thing was, he didn't care anymore. His anger was growing that toxins were involuntarily seeping out of his torso.

"You know, I've seen some stupid monsters before, but you really are something else! I'd compare you to a slime in the no-brain category, but that would be an insult to slimes really..." The Gremlin said as he walked around with an arrogant aura. This was the last straw. He had been working with chemicals before most of these creatures were even born. [He. Is. Going. to. Die...] The Defiler thought angrily as he gave everything he had in an attempt to eliminate the Knights and The Renegades.

His infected forces were fleeing in fear of their master's anger, but they could not escape his frenzy. Soon, the Knights led by the Gremlin had made their way to the elevator. Eventually, his rage ran out of fuel and he realized that the Knights were running for the elevator. At this revelation, he attempted to intercept them by leaping forward with his Snarbolax legs.

However, he was caught off guard by a blunt attack from behind and he realized that he was on fire.

He screamed and fell to the floor in an attempt to put out the fire; it was dangerously close to the Trojan crystal, one of his weak points. when The fire was put out, he looked around and surveyed the carnage. Two-thirds of his army was gone. he could still create a forward base from here, but unless he consolidated his numbers an attack on Haven was suicide [Damn those Renegades. When I'm through with The Knights I'll hunt them all down, I won't leave any survivors...]

Tier 1 team

Kara and her team watched in horror of The Gremlin's antics. Not only did he throw his only weapon at the beast, he was also making it angry. After several taunts and attacks which had caused the destruction of large amounts of assimilated, The Defiler howled in rage and was using every weapon in his arsenal in a frenzied attack.

"Are you CRAZY?! You just made things worse!" Kara told the Thwacker who in turn pointed at The Defiler's horde that was getting torn apart by their own master. Seeing the logic of the Gremlin's actions, they went through an opening in the enemy ranks and made a run for the elevator. "Nomata, support Trivoc and head for the elevator as fast as you can we'll cover you!" Kara said as she and Brastley moved behind the recruits gunning and slicing down anything that got too close.

Nomata almost shouted in surprise when Trivoc was lifted by a Redward that was also heading for the elevator. Not even thinking about why this was happening, she quickened her pace and ran for the lift. Trivoc on the other hand was scared out of his wits, probably since he was almost killed by a Lumber in one of his runs. Once everyone was inside, Kara was about to hit the ascend button when she saw the Gremlin putting in specific coordinates on the elevator [Never tried that before...] she thought.

As they held back what was left from the horde, a Cryo Knight ran inside the elevator and suddenly malfunctioned, shocking everyone and making them all collapse. Luckily, the elevator was already moving. Kara heard the gremlin mutter "I really hate that Mecha Knight."

Rultaos

Rultaos and hanaphs walked out of the elevator as they entered Dark City, one of their stops on the way to The Citadel. There was something different about the place though; it was silent and empty. Usually it would be full of Devilites running around trying to meet their deadlines or quotas, but not a sound could be heard and Rultaos swore that he smelled acid in the air. "Something's not right here... Keep your eyes open." He told Hanaphs.

The duo walked cautiously across the Devilite city with quiet office buildings looming over the the broken streets. [What is going on here? something's happened to this place...] Rultaos thought as he wondered if there were any immediate threats to the two of them within the abandoned city. Something green and fast caught Rultaos' eye. "Stay here and call out if anything hostile comes along." Rultaos told the slag Guard that stood sentinel on the sidewalk as Rultaos followed the flash of green into an alleyway.

The alleyway turned to the right but before he turned the corner, he drew his sword. Counting down inside his head he quickly turns to the right with a battle stance. What he saw wasn't what he expected; a Yesman was cowering in a corner of the dead-end alley. "Please! Don't kill me!" He squealed at Rultaos. "Calm down, I'm not going to hurt you." The Trojan said as he sheathed his sword.

The Yesman stood up but was still shaking.

"Tell me, what happened here? Where have all the Devilites gone?" Rultaos asked the small green office-worker. "Th-they w-were taken away by- No! not taken away. They volunteered to- No no no! They... aargh!" The Yesman stammered. Rultaos grabbed the Yesman with his stone hands and said "Calm down! Calm down and tell me exactly what happened here."

The Yesman took a deep breath and said "The Defiler... He 'changed' The Devilites here. It was a regular day in the office. running to and fro delivering papers and preparing for the next Knight attack. Suddenly, the Trojans outside sounded the alarm, we thought it was the Knights but it wasn't. It was, something else. It was unlike anything we had seen before, we tried to kill it but it was too powerful. The fallen Devilites stood up again, but it wasn't 'them' anymore. Ever since then I've been running around Dark city living off the scraps. One day, The Defiler and all of the others he had transformed upped and left leaving me alone here." The Yesman seemed a little sad when he finished his story.

Rultaos felt sorry for the poor worker "Tell me, any of those changed Devilites, did they leave some behind?" he said. "They might've, I don't know. I'm not a spy I'm just a worker for crying out loud!" The yesman said, breaking down. "Look, there's nothing left for you in this City. why don't you come with us, The Clockwork Renegades. We're trying to get the Knights to leave instead of killing them. When they're gone the war will be over and we can rebuild and repopulate everything, including Dark City; but not today. What do you say?" Rultaos offered the Yesman. "Well... I did hear that there was a lot of work and other Devilites there... Alright, I've got nothing else to do here anyway." The green Devilite replied.

"We'll take you to the elevator." Rultaos said as the two exited the alleyway. He hoped that nothing happened to Hanaphs while he was in the alley.

Blarful gang

The quartet of Blarfuls were swimming inside a dumpster. "Ever since those prim office-workers left, this City belongs to us!" one of them, perhaps the leader, said. "Cheers to that!" one of the replied. Their conversation was interrupted by loud footsteps coming from the next street. they shut the dumpster and peeked outside. they saw a Trojan and a Slag Guard walking around. The Trojan turned towards an alleyway and entered it while the Slag Guard stood outside.

"What are they doing here?" one of the Blarfuls asked. "Well whatever they're doing, they don't belong here." The leader said. "Let's show them what we think of outsiders..." he continued as they prepared to throw garbage at the unfortunate Slag Guard on the sidewalk. "On my go, 3, 2, 1, now!" The dumpster flew open and they threw everything they had at The Citadel Guardian before he had time to react.

((Well, I just got over my lazy disease. So, I'm posting :D ))

Hanaphs followed the Trojan through the lifeless city. [What the heck happened to all the Devlites? It's like the parts of the Citadel that's been recently burned out!] The Slag guard thought. He was confused more than he was afraid, making his slag a dark yellow. The city seemed so eriee. He was used to much more active places.

Rultaos told him to stay, so he did as ordered. He stood there waiting, looking around him every once in a while. Suddey, a variety of trash was thrown at him. He lost all hints of fear, and was now just purely confused; yellow. He was too late to block with his sheild, so that, along with his spear, was knocked out of his hands. He sheilded his face with his arms, and yelled, "What the heck?! Evil dumpster!?"

The nonstop garbage projectiles were starting to annoy him. Slowly, he turned from yellow to a crimson red. "Stupid trash-spewing monster! DIE!" He yelled as he uncovered his face, and grabbed a trashed-filled bag from the air. His eyes were a slanted and anger-filled. Being hotter than usual when mad, the bag caught on fire. He tossed the flaming trash straight into the dumpster.

((I love Hanaphs's mood swings XD ))

Moorcroft Team: Go!

The elevator came to a stop at Moorcroft Manor with the same slight bump it always did, and the zombie escort piled off before the two spookats drifted out behind them, followed by Terrar. This was neither of the public elevators accessible by the knights that used the Manor as a stopping place between sections of the Clockworks; it was a bit deeper, and nearer the areas where the bulk of the undead spent their time.

The far wall of the room, which adjoined the library, was being reinforced by a crew of zombies taking directions from a pair of gremlin contractors, who appeared to have been brought in from Emberlight. The wall itself bore a few large cracks, and looked as though it had been pushed in slightly from the other side. Konjuring Kat floated over.

"What happened here?" he asked, a bit concerned for his library, as no one had filled him in on the details of what had happened when he had been retrieved earlier.

The zombies took little notice of the question, although two did recognize Kat and waved a greeting as they worked. One of the contractors glanced over his shoulder that the spookat.

"The Defiler happened. Or those Renegade guys ... I'm not even sure what they're called, exactly. Or both. Most of the damage was to the library ceiling, but we had a bit of a blowout here when one of the beams fell." The gremlin swiped at a bit of plaster that had stuck on the fur of his ear and dried there. "Where've you been? Some of the others have been asking about you."

"Oh dear," Mialii commented fretfully, floating up behind Kat as he pondered how best to reply. "No wonder everyone was such a mess when they came back. The ones that did."

The gremlin swiped at his plastered ear impatiently again, eyeing the golden gear behind the nurse's symbol on the spookat's hat. "Don't know what business you're on this time, but your people has better make nice with a few of the residents and hope you can pin the bulk of this mess on the Defiler. Otherwise you're not likely to get anything done."

The story was the same after Mialii had chatted up a few of the zombie work crew; there weren't a lot of details on what happened, exactly, so no one was sure just who to hold accountable.

Returning to Terarr and their own zombie escort, Mialii looked contemplative. Konjuring Kat was agitated that the library had been messed with, and even more so that he wasn't allowed to go in and look at it right then. Mialii explained the situation to their team.

"So we're going to have to smooth things over, first," she finished, and turned to their escort. "I don't suppose any of you were on the last trip to Moorcroft?"

Two of the six zombies raised their hands, and did their best to explain what, exactly, had happened. Not being particularly intelligent, they weren't able to supply a lot of nuance, but they were able to supply the gist of it; if the Defiler hadn't shown up, the library would have been left perfectly intact.

Mialii sighed as the plaster-eared gremlin and the handful of zombies from his crew that had come over to listen went back to work. "Well, that's that," she said with an air of finality. "I suppose we had better get to explaining ourselves before we ask for help."

((Ebil- I know you hadn't read the earlier pages last time I checked. Now might be a good time, since Terarr was just filled in on what happened.))

A Shocking Ride to Haven

As terrified as he was of The Defiler, Brastley managed to be thoroughly impressed by the strange gremlin's incredible display of audacity; witnessing that alone was actually rather worth the trip down here, he thought.

The engineer assumed that the redward that joined them in their escape, hefting the injured Trivoc as they ran for the elevator, was part of the team of constructs he was sent to meet ... which explained the presence of the gremlin. The group was completed with the unfortunate entry of the malfunctioning mecha knight.

"There you guys are," he said to the two constructs as he nudged Nomata into helping him assist Trivoc down from the redward. Once the terrified knight was safe on the ground, Brastley looked pointedly at the gremlin. "How's that reprogramming holding up?"

Knock, Knock ... anyone home?

The rest of the walk had been filled with dismal silence as Bettit and Vakros each attended to their own weighty thoughts. They had noticed, on the way, that a small group of other gremlins was meeting up by the elevator, but didn't immediately think much of it, and arrived at Torx's tent soon thereafter.

((I had initially intended to introduce the group of NPCs also going to Emberlight in this post, but it didn't flow well before the last attempt to chat up Torx. I'll finish that bit up after hearing one way or the other from you, Necroterra.))

((Tev, I actually already know what happened to moorcraft, but thanks for the heads up. ;) ))
Mialii asked who was here on the last trip, and some of the zombies told what happened. "Wow, this defiler guy must be really good. To bad he won't join us in the Renegades. I bet we could really get something done that way. Oh, well." Terarr looked around the ruined library. It looked even worse than last time. Wait... It was! Somebody messed with it. Probably some gremlins or something. He thought about setting some traps for them if they try again. Some of the traps that get someone stuck there would be good. He shook his head. He needed to focus on the mission at hand. "I was here a while ago, and I did a bit of exploring. The place that spiralians aren't aloud is that way. That's where you'll find the good fighters. Th elders are over there, and I once went with a few of my friends there to here some of their stories. They're great story tellers, but that's about it."

So far, so bad, that's how we gooo

((Man you guys are inactive. Then again I haven't been posting much either too lately, haha.))
Snarp slid out of the tent, trailing behind Elias. The two gremlins had stayed behind; most probably to ask that Takun stranger some questions. The quicksilver pondered about his old brethren. Were they looking for this morphing rebel, or were they simply undergoing the daily routine branded into their simple minds? Would more lichen arrive from the Hive Planet? They had said something about giving an all-clear signal...
The quicksilver snapped out of it and sped up, getting next to Elias. It looked(?) at the armful of scrolls under the phantom's arm. Maps. Many of them were marked as entrances to the Grand Colony.
[So that's where he went while I was talking...] thought Snarp.
What if this mission failed?
What if Snarp died?
What was after death? Oblivion? Nothingness?
Snarp shook off the thought.[I shouldn't think of morbid things like this, I've still got a long lichen life left to live!]
[...I hope.]

A march through ruins

Rultaos

The Trojan and The Yesman were walking out of the alleyway when a familiar voice shouted "Stupid Trash-spewing monster! DIE!". [What's happening to Hanaphs?] Rultaos thought as he quickened his pace with the small Devilite following suit. When they emerged, they saw the Slag-guard burning a bright red with a blazing trash bag in its hand.

The angry soldier threw the fiery projectile at a nearby dumpster with amazing accuracy which caused a group of Blarfuls to disperse and hide in the many alleyways, the look of panic in their eyes as they caught fire.

Rultaos waited for his ally to cool down before approaching him while the Yesman looked downright scared. Eventually, the red glow began to lower and Rultaos deemed it safe to speak with him. He gave him a pat on the shoulder and said "Fine work, we'll make a warrior out of you yet. Just control your anger or you might end up dying before doing any damage." He advised as a small smile formed on his stone face.

It was rare enough to see a Citadel soldier with feelings, but even more rare was one who also had skill in battle.

"Move forward and secure the elevator on the other side so that we can continue our journey, I have to escort our little friend to the elevator we came in from. I'm sure you can handle yourself for a while, with the way you took care of that situation." Rultaos told Hanaphs. A small gang of Blarfuls wasn't really such a big feat, but he had to show his men that he believed in them otherwise their morale and skill would suffer.

"Follow me" He said, turning to the Yesman. The duo walked in the opposite direction of the Slag-Guard; Rultaos wasn't too fond of the detour, but every extra help they get could mean the difference between the survival and destruction of the Renegades. The city remained eerily quiet as the two continued walking through what remained of Dark City.

"I remember that office..." the Yesman would say occasionally. "Igref used to work there. Drika would sometimes bring in papers from the south district... sigh." Rultaos could not help but feel sorry for his companion, he had lost everything when Dark City fell, he was lucky just to know that Firestorm Citadel was still standing even if he was just an outcast.

As they reached the elevator, Rultaos gave the green Devilite instructions on how to get to Renegade Vault. "And what do I tell them? How do I assure them that I mean no harm?" By chance, he remembered his shield and thought [Damn, I forgot about leaving this thing behind. Looks like the spirits guided us when we met this Yesman, otherwise I wouldn't have known what to do with this until later]. He unequipped his weapon and put it on the elevator. "Show them my shield, tell them that I sent you. If none of them are convinced, talk to Takun, the stranger in charge there. He knows me and I'm sure that he will vouch for you." Rultaos advised the small creature.

The two waved goodbye as the elevator ascended. Rultaos turned away and started marching in the direction of the next elevator. Hopefully, Hanaphs had made sure by now that nothing else would interrupt them

Elevator

Hanaphs watched the Blarful Devlites run away. "Well that makes more sense." He said as calmed down into a green, satified with his work. He heard fimmiliar footsteps and got a pat on the shoulder. The Slag Guard took his advice, and would try not to get himself killed with mood swings. Even though Blarful Devlites wern't that strong, netheir was Hanaphs.

With Rultaos's directions, Hanaphs grabbed his spear and shield, and walked causually to the elevator. He steprd onto the metal machine and took an idle guard stance, a position that looked causual and off-guard, but really made him ready for anything. Except being pushed off a cliff. That didn't really have a position to save yourself.

finally gonna post, but its a short one O.o

Silently padding through the passages of IMF, Tickafir envied the Ghostmane Strikers for their cloaks, which were very comfortable. Well, he had one now. While thinking about this, he failed to pay total attention to his surroundings, and tripped over a bump on the floor. Stepping slightly heavier while correcting himself, he rounded a corner and almost ran right into a Retrode that had paused in the hallway. "Get back to your station!" he commanded, then he saw the golden gear. "You...you're a Renegade?"

:(

((Well guys, I am sorry about being SO LAZY that I couldn't do this earlier, but...

I am officially resigning from the roleplay. :(

I thought that I may as well take a minute to tell you all why I'm leaving, so here it it:

1. I am overextended. Between making time for just plain playing games for fun, big exams coming soon, my Minecraft server that I recently started dedicating, music, and real life in general, I NEVER have the time to do what I need to do. I decided after careful consideration that I would drop this.

2. The roleplay and becoming a mod has made into work. Like Tev said a while back, "A good roleplay is one of my chief amusements in life, so this is really less work, more play." If this isn't fun for me anymore, why would I do it? I have much more, to be honest, important responsibilities elsewhere. While I was posting regularly, I put a lot of time into my posts. I couldn't just log on, post some story, and leave. When i post a section, I am thinking about it for hours or days beforehand, thinking about how it will benefit the story as a whole, what kind of scenes would fit, what my character should do. That is simply more time than I am willing to invest in this.

3. It is becoming harder and harder for me to try NOT to simply take over the story. Since the first few pages when I joined in, I have had a master plan of how I wanted the story to go, with this particular description and that scene and whatnot. But I have been able to force myself so far to let others join in and direct how they want, even if its contrary to my designs. That has been a little difficult for me, and its just not something I want to have to stress about right now.

4. I am just kind of done with it. I believe that almost all people can eventually get tired of roleplays, and even in this one we have had several people drop out already. I have managed to stay for the longest other than Azure, Windsickle, and Za-cK, but it just isn't as fun as it used to be. I have been in my share of roleplays; this is not my first. This is the sad but inevitable truth, that I will eventually tire of them and move on.

These are my reasons for leaving. I sincerely had a ton of fun with you guys, even the ones that left. I have always found forum roleplays as kind of wonderful, as they provide an opportunity for people of any skill level in writing to jump in and experiment, without having to worry about big plot designs and all that stuff that comes with writing a full story. Tev, Zack, and Azure, I hope to you the best luck in moderating the roleplay.

Tevokkia, keep it together, I know you ended up taking over a lot of that work while Azure was gone, and kind of clung to the job after he returned. You saved this roleplay from page two a few times, and certainly it would be dead if not for you.

Zack, you have stuck to it from the beginning. You had, I believe the first or second reply for a character application, and never once did you give up on it. Thanks a lot for helping out and making it fun.

Azure, I thank you for, again, being loyal to the RP and also just providing us with the opportunity to write. You kind of stated up a wave of Creature bases fanfictions, of which I believe were rare before you stated this. If we had been knights instead, it surely would have become boring and we all might have left. Good thinking.

Windsickle, you stuck to the roleplay even though you weren't really able to post anything real for about 5+ pages. That's just plain cool.

Flyingninza, I have a special apology for you. I stopped posting right when you needed me to be there for our encounter, and I believe that it slowed down your posting quite a bit. I am really sorry that it worked out that way.

To everyone else (of which I'm not going to list, because I will miss someone): All of you are what make the roleplay from a pitch to a story. Thank you all for giving me a really fun time.

As for my characters, of course the mods can decide, but I think I owe Scharr to Flyingninza, as my laziness and bad timing held him up for a while. As for Torx, he can be controlled by Tevokkia and Isis, as they have done the most for helping me develop his character and background.

Keep up the good work guys, and don't let the Renegades fall out of memory! I will be checking from time to time (I hope) to see how the story's been going. You will still see me in game occasionally too, but I don't play that much.

Bye!

Ever Onward

((That's good then, Ebil ... I had just remembered you saying awhile back that you were only going to read the first page and the last three. And very sorry to have taken so long to get this up. D:))

Let's Split Up!

Mialii heaved a sigh, which made her ghost bell ring. "Well, let's get going that way, then," she said in reply to Terarr, and they all headed in the direction that the little devilite had pointed.

"Why don't we split up?" the spookat nurse suggested as she and Konjuring Kat floated along in the middle of the group of shambling zombies, Terarr trotting along between the two ghosts. "Kat and I will each take part of the escort and start talking to anyone we meet, while Terarr can take the rest and see if there are any fiends around that he can talk to."

((I figure this will be a good way to assume that the NPCs do their job without my having to type out every little detail, and still let Terarr have his adventure in Moorcroft ... so let's just follow the devilite for now, shall we?))

Of Gremlins and Gossip

It turned out that Torx was not, in fact, home, so Bettit and Vakros headed back to the elevator. By the looks on their faces, most observers would assume that they were headed to a funeral.

As the two approached, they noticed that the small group of gremlins that had been loitering near the elevator earlier was still there. They were all dressed either in neutral gear or that which identified them as Emberlighters, and some of them were carrying the sorts of backpacks that meant they were expecting a bit of a trip.

* * * * *

Merrett had been waiting for a short while with the seven other gremlins for the last two of the recruitment party to show up; if they hadn't planned on splitting up which areas of Emberlight the different teams were headed towards, most of them probably would have left by now.

But as it stood, they were waiting on Vakros, who Merrett knew by name and face even though be didn't know the gremlin personally (it was always a good plan to recognize your local menders), and his partner, whose name was unfamiliar. The thwacker wondered briefly whether it was a new recruit or just some nobody.

Finally, he spotted them coming, both of them looking as though they had swallowed a chunk of Dark Matter. Merrett waved at them. "Nice of you to join us!" he called, appraising this new gremlin as they walked up. She responded to his scrutiny with a watery smile and took a half step behind Vakros, so he mentally dismissed her as uninteresting and turned his attention back to the mender.

The rumors seemed to be true; Vakros was looking a bit ... different, nowadays. Merret didn't have much tact, but he did have enough not to say anything about it.

Someone else, however, did not.

"So uh ... how'd you manage to turn yourself the wrong color?"

The question came from Kostlo, a recent exile from the Colony, who was promptly elbowed in the ribs by the female next to him. Asteria was a quick-footed albino who no one had ever heard speak, and was constantly at Kostlo's side. Despite this, no one seemed particularly sure whether the two were a couple.

The rest of the party seemed to be torn between interest at the potential gossip and rolling their eyes at yet another delay.

* * * * *

Bettit hadn't realized that there would be others on this trip, and she didn't much like the way that the big thwacker who had called out to Vakros and herself was looking at her. She tried to put on her cheerful face, failed, and sidestepped behind her friend ... maybe he knew the guy.

She didn't get to find out, however, because another gremlin in the back called out a question that she didn't understand, at first; she had mostly assumed that Vakros' coloring had been an unusual family trait. She stepped back out from where she had taken refuge from the thwacker's gaze and looked up at the mender, hoping the question wasn't going to be something upsetting ... especially considering the mood he was already in.

((Sorry to put Vakky on the spot there, Isis ... I just thought it was kinda' weird that he changed color literally overnight and nobody had actually said anything about it. >.> *ducks and hides*))
