Changes to the Thwack Hammer

Hello forumites!

Contrary to popular belief, not only am I a man of fashion, I am also a man of HAMMERS.

I come bearing a PROPOSITION! A change to the Thwack Hammer...not-line.

At the moment, it's pretty darn useless. It's pretty much a Heavy Hatchet with a construct UV, making it easily outclasses in Lockdown. What can be done to saved this magnificent specimen of hammer? SIMPLE. We change it COMPLETELY.

The Rocket Hammer line is an amazing one, a shame it's limited to paying players! If only I could swing and dash like they can...oh, what's that? I COULD? Hear me out, and I'll tell ya!

Firstly, bump up the Thwack Hammer to 3*. We don't need a Heavy Hatchet clone. What we need is a way to spread the mechanics of the Rocket Hammer in a way that Free to Play players can us. SO, my proposition, is to give the Thwack Hammer the same mechanics as Warmaster Seerus' line of rocket hammers. Now, onto the pictures!

My idea in picture format!

The Rocket hammer line is definitely different compared to the Troika/Sealed Sword lines, so give them a different icon! I made a little one to give an idea of what I'm talking about, with THESE being an example of what the rocket hammer lines new icons would look like. Of course, the Thwack Hammer line's gonna have the same icon, they ARE both Gremlin hammers, after all!

NOW, onto the fancy stat details.

3* variant: Whack Hammer
Normal/Elemental (to make it less powerful than the Seerus hammers, but more functional in comparison)
-Uses the same attack animations as the Seerus hammer, but without the rocket sounds/explosions. Instead, replace the dashing sound with a Gremlin's dash, and leave the explosions outta the charge attack.
-Resembles the Tenderfoot Hammer, of course. This will give the Tenderfoot Thwackers their own unique hammer model, rather than reusing the Ironclaw Hammer model
-All levels, save for the Twins Maw, retains it's ability to deal stun, but only Minor Stun. Stunning Heavy Swords is the Sudaruska's forte
-Also retains the construct bonus?

4* variant: Thwack Hammer
Normal/Elemental as well
-Same animations as rocket hammer, with the changes described in the variant above
-Typical Ironclaw hammer, and the one we know and love!

5* variant path 1: Darkfang Cudgel
Normal/Elemental
-See above variant, too lazy to retype
-Give the Darkfang hammers some flavor with the same ribbon ya gave to the Beast Basher/Slime Slasher lines, but with a purple twist!

5* variant path 2: Twins Maw
Normal/Elemental
-A unique hammer model, designed after the Roarmulus Twins, since the closest thing to a piece of equipment based on them is the Mercurial Demo Set, and that's just WROOONG.
-"An experimental weapon designed by Gremlin scientists to scrap their losses from the destruction of the Roarmulus Twins, this powerful hammer is known to inflict a nasty shock on anyone unfortunate enough to be hit by it, and loves to be scratched behind the ears."
-Replaces the idea of a Shock Troika with something a bit different for variation, meanin' this will be able to deal moderate shock compared to the minor stun of it's previous stages
-Did I mention it's a hammer based on two giant robot dog turrents?
-That's pretty freakin' awesome
-But I'm sure you already know that
-Probably change the charge attack to one similar to the Troika, but with the "explosion" being a vertical laser? Just tossin' in some more ideas here
-Is weaker than the Darkfang Cudgel due to gaining a more damaging status effect.

P.S. If anyone's got any good name ideas, do share! In case ya can't tell, I'm beyond horrible with naming things.

I +1 to any improvement to the gremlin swords. You've done a good job here, I'd like to see the Thwak Hammer/Wrench Wand's useability improved ingame.

I love the pixel art, and there's not much to dispute in this except that the weapon itself isn't particularly creative.

Nonetheless, it would make the Thwack Hammer more useful.

Question:

Is there any reason people would choose the Darkfang over the Twins? Since stun is kind of broken (enemies hitting twice, enemies hitting before their attack animation, etc.), shock seems like the better option (it even deals extra damage). Maybe the Darkfang could simply have a higher base damage output?

Seems like a decent idea, though. +1

EDIT: I feel the need to mention that I can't shake the fact that this thread immediately reminded me of your disturbing tsundere moment in that other thread, Stevo

I would rather give the Hammer attack combo to the Suda... although slower...

I applaud your idea of making the thwack hammer actually useful.Now if only somebody could make the wrench wand useful.But the twins maw sounds pretty cool.

Wait, are they really going

Wait, are they really going to make a weapon unique to only paying players, and then have a clone for that weapon, making players who paid for the DLC just to get the hammer feel cheated because they don't have to pay for it? It's a neat idea, but they can't change a weapon that is 1 star and make it 3-5 star. People could craft the hammer before hand, then sell it for a lot of money. I vote keep the current setup. It helps noobs who have trouble with constructs.

He probably took that into consideration as well.
Notice that the weapons deal Normal/Elemental; ergo it won't dish out quite as much damage to constructs or undead.

Sure, there will be a fair few P2Pers that won't be too happy about this, but then again they can't really complain because this is an inferior version of that weapon.

Again, if anything my sole objection is that this idea isn't very creative, using recycled mechanics.

To avoid any problems with the original's 1 starness, perhaps all current existing Thwack hammers can be converted into Heavy Hatchets with a vs Construct UV high?

That way, new players who "need help with constructs" will still be able to dish out the same amount of damage WITH a higher change of stun.

@Kentard:

Very observant! I personally believe that this game should not be shovelling content to Pay-2-Players only. If the game advertises itself as free to play, I at least expect it to offer the same thing to it's free-to-players. The only exception I would be okay with is cosmetic apparel, but actual gameplay items and mechancis should be shared, not reserved.

Besides, why use a code for only one exclusive item, when more variations can be made? This variation of the Rocket Hammer is a more "balanced" out one; unlike the original, which trades usability for power, this one trades power for usability, making it a go-to Elemental weapon for those with only two weapon slots, and a good Anti-Construct weapon rather than your average Divine Avenger/Blizzbrand.

That, and I really like hammers. N-not that I'm i-implyin' anythin, you i-idiot...

Mhmm grapefruit...

Just make the thwack hammer everytime it connects have a large *THWACK* sound, or instead of every hit only the final blow to a enemy. That way in LD when you're halfway across the map and hear it you can say lol someone just got thwacked
