I. Introduction

This thread is for sign-ups and plot/theory discussions for my work in progress fan fiction, currently titled as Descent into Darkness. This fan fiction is a sequel to “Enter the Arena,” but will not require prior knowledge of said work. Feel free to read it if you want, but I will not be providing a link to it.

This fan fiction has been many months in the making. Despite not thinking I'd make another SK fic, I ended up brainstorming for another after I finished Enter the Arena around the end of November/early December. I've been working on the story ever since, with a good month of hiatus with school. I recently began work on the story again.

As I noted in the last thread, I'm not big on “role-casting” or whatever you like to call it, but I thought I'd give it a try for this fan fiction. I wanted to start sign ups as early as possible to ensure higher possibility of those interested in joining being accepted. I feel it's easier to find spots for people the earlier in the creation process. I will try my best to accept anyone who enters, but I'm not guaranteeing that everyone will be accepted.

II. Story/Background

This fan fiction will be taking place around the time when the Swarm/Shadow Lairs patch was released. Focus will be on the changes the knights find with familiar boss lairs such as RJP or IMF, so Snarby will be rabid, Vanaduke will be using dark magic, Royal Jelly has been dethroned, etc. These changes are not the only thing though. A strange black substance has been corrupting the Clockworks and destroying anything/everything in the lowest depths. Now the knights will have to uncover the answers to this plague. Their journey will take them to new places, including the core, and possibly other areas such as the queen of the spookats and the gods of Cradle.

Although this takes place during the swarm invasion, I have been keeping track of recent patches and have been taking them into account. (Like the missions and new items/eyes)

III. Submissions

III. Submissions

All submissions will be given credit to, whenever I get to posting the fan fiction. I'm also currently accepting pretty much anything in terms of characters. So everything is pretty much fair game. Please try to detail your characters as much as possible; the more details, the better portrayal I can give.

You may submit as many characters as you want, but I would insist you submit things you are happy with – i.e. things that are polished and nice. Please also take into account the story's timeline so you can change things if needed. If you have any questions, feel free to ask.

>> What can/can't be submitted:

Knights – Your knight can be anything traditional that we see in game, or things such as magic users, dual-wielding knights, spears/other things not normally seen.

Monsters – Your fan monsters can be real things we see in game, or something you have made up. Monsters can also be deities or special monsters like vog cubs or sprites.

No Submission Limit – Submit as many or as little characters as you want, but please make sure you're satisfied with what you are posting and please don't make stuff up just because you want to be in the fan fic. Take your time and make sure you're happy with your characters.

No children of established knight characters – If your characters are children of characters in-game, such as a son of Feron, or a child of Vaelyn, please do not mention it. Since most of the important figures have made their appearances in the story, I don't want to rework things for children. Not to mention this gets on the grounds of couple shipping, my beliefs in “couples” may not be the same as yours. Pretty much if this is your case, just don't mention their relations, or say they are children from high ranking members.
However, I am fine with Skolver Cubs/Vog cubs, children of Crimson order members. Basically things that are more up in the air for creative purposes.

Editing Profiles -- I would prefer characters that are submitted to be about 90% complete or up to what you want to submit. I will however give some leeway, should you feel a need to edit said character. Any changes should be done so in the original post and a new reply about the changes, or just repost the character.
If you have already submitted in my last thread and feel the need to change information, I am still willing to work with changes. Please just let me know here.

VI. Concepts

VI. My Monster Designs/Concepts

This area is reserved for my concept art/ideas/theories. This is mainly here just to let people know what they might expect in the story and if they want to discuss their thoughts.

    Concept 1: Kat Leader/Kats

http://i.imgur.com/md7c8.png

Rough concept art of the Spookat leader. Currently doesn't have a name, but may just go by majesty, or some other royal title. Their leader is female and will either be pink or purple. Her behavior is more closely related to grimalkins, in the fact she appears out of the darkness and has a similar, but less sever fear of light. She prefers appearing into the shape of a dress to make her stand out from her followers. She does not have arms or legs, (or lady parts), she merely fits the form of the dress. She is just a very big kat with broken wings. She will have a russian or vampire style accent.

Kats and most other fiends were apparently not native to ancient Cradle. They were drawn to the planet for unknown reasons. The Kats were drawn due to the large magical force they felt. They feed on magic on powerful energies.

    Concept 2: Rektilians

No Image Yet

Rektilians are the same species that King Krogmo affiliates with and he is their leader, they are cousins to the Chromalisk. Most rektilians are not as large as him and are usually more thinner/lithe. Rektilians are bipedal reptiles that vary in looks (various lizard/reptile/dinosaur looks). The Rektilians lost their homeland long ago and were rumored to be extincted. There is no clear cut answer as to what destroyed their homeland and most rumors point to the kats being responsible. The Rektilian Nation was said to be great weaponsmiths and they house powerful magics.
Recent discoveries have shed light on the existence of the Rektilians, who make their home in a poor run down area of the Clockworks known as the slums, along with a few areas that were possible ruins of their former land. Krogmo is believed to be using his Coliseum as a means to help his people survive. Due to his absence in his homeland, a high ranking general keeps the peace while he is gone.
Most Rektilians are spies and wear ninja garb. This was a means of survival after their homes were destroyed. They retreated to the shadows and began to use stealth and other methods to keep low profiles from their enemies. Despite being mainly melee/stealthy they also have other ranks/jobs.
Their former home has an oriental theme to it (pagodas, shrines, etc.)

Not official names of ranks:
Spies/Ninjas – Deal piercing damage and are weak to piercing (Resist elemental). They use shuriken/throwing stars, but ca also strike foes for extra damage when not noticed. They wear ninja garb.
Spell Casters/Mages – Deal elemental damage and are weak to piercing (Resist elemental). They use magical spell tags to cripple their foes at a range. Spell tags can be tossed on the ground and cause AOE damage in a small radius, or can be used to silence/pacify their foes (actions cannot be taken for a few seconds). They wear hoods/cloaks/robes.
Healers – Deal no damage and are weak to shadow. (Resist pierce) These rektilians support their allies by passively healing their nearby friends. As long as they are nearby, their friends will gain some health back. They can also use spell tags, which they breathe on with fire breath. This ignites the spell tag and heals allies in front of the healer. They wear straw hats and robes.

    Concept 3: Magic

Magic is a foreign concept to the Spiral Knights, but it does exist on Cradle. Not many beings that currently exist on Cradle can tap into this magic though. Those that use magic are supplementing it, such as gremlins with technology, or the energy that flows around Cradle. The Owlites were masters of magic, but have long since disappeared after their fight with the Kats. With their disappearance, so too did true magic vanish.
Magic is harnessed from the minerals in the depths of the Clockworks. There are 5 magic sources, but four are currently usable by Spiral Knights. Most magics seem to reflect their user.

Crimsonite – Calls upon mainly fire magic or shock magic, with possible ties to Vog. Most Knights who pick this magic are short tempered or energetic.
Moonstone – Calls upon mainly arcane magic, ice magic and rarely water magic, may have relations to skolvers or a currently unknown deity.
Valestone – Calls upon nature magic or water magic and has ties with sprites and all of life on Cradle. This magic also seems to have a more offense oriented type in the form of poison magic.
Luminite – Calls upon holy magic, with possible ties to the creator of Cradle.

Dark Matter – Calls upon dark/shadow magic. The exact opposite of Luminite and possibly a corrupted form of the mineral. This magic is currently not usable by knights for some reason – its potential hasn't been unlocked. Most undead/fiends can use this magic though.

Magic use is currently being handled under a secret sect known as Arcana, which studies in an underground academy. Members are either Clockwork Chroniclers or Researchers who have been studying Owlite culture. Those willing to be guinea pigs for magic use and its benefits are required to wear special armor fitted for contact/use of the minerals. Minerals used for magic purposes seem to have some negative impact on Knight-users. Once a mineral is used for magic purposes, it must be place in a device and kept out of direct contact of a Knight's actual body -- or will result in a burn. Certain magics seem to be addictive and require continued contact with the magic artifact used. It also causes users eyes to glow a bit more than what standard eyes look like.
Arcana is a very secluded group in the knight's order and membership is only given by current members. Knights who practice Owlite magic and go out in public must wear normal gear, so as not to draw to much attention. Outsiders who encounter Arcana members are also required to sign "Non-disclosure" papers and keep the group a secret. Encounters in the Clockworks with outsiders is fairly rare.

Personality: mostly keeps to himself in Haven but will converse freely in the Clockworks. sways in the breeze when he stands still long enough and looks up to the strangers with reverence, treating them with an almost fan-boyish respect. he doesn't carry much in term of weapons, with only a sword and two guns, both of which deal "normal" damage. it takes something extreme to change his emotional state, but he tends to stay in one emotional state for quite a while, be it anger or happiness, sadness or neutrality. Is an optimist

He has been avoiding the Firestorm Citadel since he heard of it, the horror stories about it keeping him well away from any paths leading to it. for now he bides his time in the first half of tier 3, working to rustle up enough funds to upgrade his equiptment to five stars and work up the courage to finally defeat the citadel.

He celebrated his birthday during the siege on the grand arsenal, fleeing in terror from a swarm of Ghostmane Stalkers.

.... I edited a bit.

Oh uh... I edited Ace a little bit. Idk if its still good, but... I added some more detail.

Name: nicknamed "Ace" for his striker skills, but his real name is Kazu.

Species: Spiral knight

Age: 14

Gender: male

Alliance: good

Rank: Champion

Affiliation: Ghostknight (basically a mix of a recon and striker, usually assassinates and ambushes enemies, but is very good at head-on charges as well.)

(Well, the appearance parts i just put as beginning and end, thinking that the characters would upgrade their gear over the course of the story. If this isnt so, then just ignore beginning appearance and skip to end appearance for his gear for the whole story.)

Beginning Appearance: well, at the beginning he wears a seraphic helm and ash tail coat with one gold and one platinum version of the nightblade. The gold deals divine elemental damage while the platinum dishes out wind power. Has a Mighty Defender and pair of Silversixes. Aqua colored eyes.

End appearance: valkyrie helm and skolver coat. Still has the gold and platinum nightblades, only they now have wings and their power and speed are even more advanced then before. Twin Argent Peacemakers and an Aegis. Same Aqua colored eyes.
Another little thing: now the two swords have auras around them, like the divine avenger and gran faust do, only the auras are their respective colors: gold and platinum. Now the platinum sword can whip up mild winds, just semi-powerful buffets that can distract you and throw you off balance a bit, while the gold one just combines the strength of the other elements, one strike being somewhat hot, the other being mildly poisonous and sickening, another icy cold, etc.

Feel free to nerf the end swords a bit and keep them as strong as just the beginning swords, i dont want them to seem too powerful. Just a little thing, the gold sword just irritates you with all the elements, basically like a Glacius, occasionally sstriking with a random status effect and the wind from the platinum sword just buffets you a little bit.

Personality: fun to be around and kind to others; is very polite and hates to see someone being bullied or hurt. Somehow, kind of breaks under pressure and isnt that good at leading, more like a second in command. He always sticks up for his friends and allies. Is also slightly more intelligent than normal knights, but only in battle strategy. Hes very good at coming up with plans that trap the enemy or give his team the advantage and stuff like that. Other than that, though, hes just as smart as a normal guy of his age.

Slightly more detailed bio: will put in later

Side note: he is a novice with both luminite and dark matter magic, but can use small tricks with their powers, such as disappearing into shadows, a useful trick for ghostknights, and sometimes healing with the divine magic of luminite. The one thing hes really good at that involves magic isnt really from him, its a shard of a wind type mineral that is infused into his platinum katana and basically gives it a speed and dmg boost. Its the same thing with the golden one, only with divine Luminite that gives pure damage boost.
(if u need a name for the wind mineral, i have an idea.... Mayhaps the name of it will be Heleite? Pronounced as Heel-ee-ite.)

____________
Will edit and finish later.... I gtg for now.

Another Side note: a ninja garb is known traditionally as a shinobi, just so u know.
