Sword Duel(PvP)

I thought of a small PvP game that Three Rings could all called sword duel. You are inside of a circle and there are only up to FOUR players and you have to duel them with a sword. Now, "what about people who don't use swords?" You're probably asking that but like Blast Network, I want this game to come with its own special weapons and equipment.
I think a tournament should be assembled. When there are enough people in the tournament, a timed match starts to see who can get the most kills and points. Only two people fight per tournament round and once the timer goes off you go up and fight the next person.
You can play this on free-for-all or teams but if it's on the tournament, you're on your own of course.
You can also select your sword style if you want it to look a certain way. You may make it look like a Flourish like blade or a regular looking sword like Calibur. You can even make it large like a Troika. Each sword style can have it's own ability but it will also have negatives to it also.
There are no charge attacks with the swords, you just fight and do basic hits.
Also, a question to people who support this idea.
Would you like for shields to be added?
If I think of any exclusive information, I'll add it.
If mostly disagreed with I will graveyard it.
This is a way you can have a fight to the death sword slashing balanced PvP mode. Everyone starts out with the same health and trinkets aren't aloud, everything is at the same rate so it wouldn't have to be divided by tier.
Feedback and Improvement Tips appreciated!

Hehe, that's funny and true but shields don't have to be included, I'm just asking that if people would like using shields. It could be like a lightsaber duel and their swords can cling and clash until eventually someone gets hit.

To clear a few things up from what I can tell, the rules are:
- Personal equipment does not help anyone in any way like in Blast Network
- Everyone starts with the same health and defense
- Participants can only choose among a few swords (Calibur, Troika, Flourish) but none allow use of the charge attack
- Each tournament/round only has four players, one on one with two people benched at a time (unless someone leaves)
- Basically Super Brawl in terms of sword sausagefest
- Maybe shields
And here are some questions:
- Are Calibur, Troika, and Flourish the only choices?
- Do all available swords have the same damage type or does everyone have zero defense to everything making damage type differences pointless?
- Why would anyone use a Calibur/Troika when they could use a Flourish and spam the attack to interrupt you forever, since the fights are only one on one?
- Are there any upgrades/temporary bonuses available during rounds to make the game more fast paced or is it just slashing at each other mindlessly?
- If shields are allowed, would there be options or just a generic shield for everyone?
And here are my suggestions for this:
- Instead of one on one, have two on two or three on three for teamplay
- Change the Flourish to have pure normal damage but start everyone with zero defenses
- Calibur, Troika, and Flourish have their 2* damage values (except Flourish deals pure normal instead of pierce); Troika has slightly higher damage than the other two
- If only the three main swords (Calibur, Troika, Flourish) are available, create bonuses for your team if you use a Calibur or Troika:
- Using a Calibur gives you and all team members +1 sword damage
- Using a Troika gives you and all team members +3 bars of normal defense (no more than three players per team)
- Flourish gives no bonus
- Every time your team kills an enemy (respawns with the same system existing Krogmo minigames have) your entire party gets +1 sword attack speed for ten seconds
- Three different shields available:
- Offense, has no defense and 3 bars of health but gives +2 sword damage
- Defense, has 6 bars normal defense and 3 bars of health but gives -1 sword damage and -1 sword attack speed
- Support, has 2 bars normal defense and 1.5 bars of health but gives all allies +1 sword damage (including yourself); only one team member may use this shield at a time
Now they need something to do.

1.No Calibur, Flourish, and Troika-like blades aren't the only choices. You can get a blade like a striker(Wild Hunting Blade and Dread Venom Striker) and I can't really find any other sword types besides blades like those but if you have another sword idea, please tell me.
2.You'll have health, swords will just have different advantages or some disadvantages to make it fair.
3.Like I said, each swords have different abilities. For example, the Troika-like sword will be slow but powerful.
4.I want to add some upgrades but I haven't thought of any ones but maybe there could be attack speed increase or movement increase things on the ground that pop up like with Blast Network.
5.Everyone would use the same shield.
Thanks for your feedback and suggestions! I agree with them but it won't always be on teams, you can play on free-for-all if you want to.
You're probably wondering where people would spawn. They'd spawn anywhere but they would have to refresh and you can't hit them until they're done spawning.
You're a genius.

Maybe, not only add swords but what about adding different types of melee weapons like hammers(Not like Warmaster Hammers),spears, or small daggers and knives.

I completely forgot about Cutters.
Okay, weapon recap:
- Calibur
- ~3.2 bars normal damage
- Gives all team members (including yourself) +1 sword damage
- Troika
- ~3.6 bars normal damage
- Gives all team members (still including yourself) +3 bars normal defense
- Flourish
- ~3.2 bars normal damage
- Cutter
- ~2.6 bars normal damage
- Gives all team members (including yourself again) +1 sword attack speed but -1 sword damage
Nothing inflicts statuses, nothing deals anything other than normal damage, and Flourish gives no bonuses to your party. No tier separation because everyone is using stock equipment. You can wear whatever armor you want only as a costume but your actual defenses are based on what your party has (Troikas giving defense buffs).
In terms of upgrades there could be some of these:
- Hearts of varying sizes (one, two, or three pips worth)
- Vitapods up to +3 (only lasts thirty seconds)
- +1 attack speed, damage, or movement speed (only lasts ten seconds, bonus applies to your whole team regardless of which member picked it up to encourage teamwork)
The second and third basic attacks from a Flourish is effectively a spear and Cutters are effectively daggers. No Seerus hammers in here, it would get too silly.

That's pretty much the point and how the game is gonna go, thanks for the positive feedback and I really appreciate it and you helped improve this suggestion!

Funny how Three Rings hasn't made King Krogmo's Coliseum a 'real' coliseum yet.
PS: can I bump my previous thread again, although I didn't really work on it, just thinking that I might be scrapping off Arcade Gallery. Halloween is gone soon. ;n;

Go ahead!
Also, I thought I was the only one who said that. They call it a coliseum but really I don't see exploding people with bombs and capturing bases with technology that can make you boost, turn invisible, and build a force field around you. We really need a real coliseum.

Problem is, why only 3 weapons? Are we allowed to give 1 2* and 3* sword? Like calibur and shockburst brandish?

There are like four types of swords if you read one of my posts. I really want this to be more of a basic PvP, they'll just be like Flourishs, Troikas, Caliburs, and Cutters for the game, not the actual versions of them. It's supposed to be a basic PvP mode, no extra gear, it's not based on stars or tiers like that. You come with four types of swords to use like there are classes on Lockdown.

I'm still trying to think of my weapons though. Like I said, I might add more melee weapons that are not only swords.
The reason why I'm not adding any of your weapons to be used so it doesn't cause drama and starts to get unbalanced.

Most coliseums offer ye their spare swords and shields.
If ye know what I mean, Incization's theory would be selecting swords with varies. Sword selections includes on Luguiru's post, the Calibur, Troika, Flourish and Cutter.
Calibur offers normal damages and the damage and speed is fair.
Troika is a heavy weapon which is slower compared to other swords, however the slower speed is put to sacrifice for their weapon's strength.
Flourish has piercing damage, and is a threat to non-piercing armour users. This sword claims to be faster than Calibur, yet the damage is equal with Calibur. Not recommended against piercing armour users. (ye guys should reconsider having flourish, i think that having a normal damage dueling can be awesome, so flourish should left out)
Cutter is another normal damage sword, faster than any sword listed above, the damage is sacrificed for greater speed.
------
If we are to use every equipment selected from the coliseum's, it'll balance everything and de-allow user's gears to be brought into the coliseum battle. Including armor as well. But I'd like to clarify about trinkets, what are ye all opinions on trinkets?
Still, having a normal damage and armor duel is definitely at my fun to do with. I support of this PvP suggestion!
EDIT: Copying from my various PvP suggestion thread: http://forums.spiralknights.com/en/node/58490
Regarding about the powerups, Luguiru made some ten seconds powerups, which I really do think that it'll make a good balance as well, however compared to mines on the link given above were thirty seconds.
These were my powerup suggestions before:
• Health Recovery +10
• Increased Attack Speed Bonus for 30 seconds
• Increased Damage Bonus for 30 seconds
• Flame Module(Inflicts Fire to opponent)
• Freezing Module(Inflicts Freeze to opponent)
• Shock Module(Inflicts Shock to opponent)
• Haze Module(Inflicts Stun to opponent)
• Venomous Module(Inflicts Poison to opponent)
• Evil Module(Inflicts Curse to opponent)
Let's, maybe... give yer all opinions on adding these powerups and status ailment modules a discussion, as I would balance things below:
• Health Recovery decreased from +10 to +5.
• Increased Attack Speed Bonus duration decreased from 30 seconds to 10 seconds. (From Luguiru's)
• Increased Damage Bonus duration decreased from 30 seconds to 10 seconds. (From Luguiru's)
• All status ailments module, excluding Evil Module which will be removed, are subject to change from community's discussion on this thread.
• Vitapods? (not sure, really, i'm confused)
Give us yer opinions on this powerups ideas. What should include and what should be removed?

You missed the part where Flourish deals pure normal instead of pierce both here and there and everywhere all over the ceiling. We need to get a ladder to get it off there.
This may not have been made clear, but at least from my version each player is only allowed one sword for the entire match. No "oh I want to switch but the round has only been a couple minutes in". People would just counter what the other team has and it would end up being a dress up competition, whoever has the prettiest dress wins.
Maybe as an alternative for the team defense buff from Troika, it just has a little more damage to compensate; that would interfere with the "balance" of the swords even outside the minigame, but it would make slightly more sense than my idea. A giant cleaver should hit harder than a metal pencil.
Before going into upgrades we need specific starting values: how much health and defense would we start with? Ten bars of health and no defense (though with the Troika effect it gives you some defense)? According to this each health bar/pip is 40 health and each pip can be divided into eighths, each fraction worth five health. If we compare that to, say, Calibur at D1 (lowest damage without defense interfering), it does about 30 on the first couple basic swings. We want people to live long enough to take at least a few hits, though considering how damage taken by enemies varies and the values on the Wiki may not be universally consistent, what amount of swings do we want someone to drop by if they have no health modifiers? If they have those ten bars, each with 40 health for a total of 400 health, and a single swing from a Calibur (Flourish has the same base neutral damage also) deals around 30 damage, that would end up taking a little over 13 swings to kill. Those are some slow solids, so tone the health down to only five bars. Now it only takes a little over two basic combos to finish someone off.
So if everyone has only five bars of health and no defense to start with, we need pretty small upgrades to prevent massive battle shifting from a single pickup. For health recover, since everyone would have no more than ten bars, the normal three sizes of hearts are enough for healing. A single heart practically heals more than a single basic swing from everything.
For attack speed, damage, and movement speed there would be varying ranges:
-
- +1 attack speed for 10 seconds
- +1 attack speed for 30 seconds
- +2 attack speed, -1 damage for 15 seconds
-
- +1 damage for 10 seconds
- +1 damage for 30 seconds
- +2 damage, -1 attack speed for 15 seconds
- +1 movement speed for 15 seconds
- +2 movement speed, -1 damage, -1 attack speed for 15 seconds
These upgrades would stack up to +6 like normal bonuses and apply to your whole team.
For statuses, maybe something that lets you inflict one of the basic statuses for ten seconds for your next attack which makes contact (guaranteed to afflict on impact), but if you fail to use it within thirty seconds it inflicts the status on yourself for ten seconds instead. It would make picking them up a risk, so these would not apply to your whole party like the attack bonuses do.
Vitapods increase your max health. Since there are no trinkets, how else are people going to get more max health? Singing? It would only be +1, +2, and +3 sizes and only apply to the individual but only lasts thirty seconds. You can only have one of these active at a time as usual.

These are nifty indeed, thanks.
I don't know about it, if ye put Flourish in normal damage that way, I have nothing to talk about it then.
Yeah, having one sword (no shields right?) will do for this PvP suggestion. About the Troika, it gives defense buffs to players, but sacrifices speed and damage? :o
I wanna clarify something as well, what's the initation of every player's exact health be allowed on a match, excluding vitapods?
For the status ailments, it seems like a time bomb. *shrudders*
Is it fine to just make a status ailment enchant for 10 seconds and when the time ticks off or contacts a hostile(hit once), could we remove the penalty? :o
I'm fine with anything actually, others above, I'm just not really sure.

We can't look over the past that has been scrapped off.

True, this is like Super Brawl but it's the best way for it to be balanced.

I kinda have an idea for Flourish users, if you use the Flourish-like blade there'll be a catch. You wouldn't be able to use a shield.

what about my hatchet or my wand, are they not included or even seerus huge rocket hammer. is it only swords, does hatchet not count as a sword?
and theres always that small little axe or the shovel you could buy at the begining of the game. all the weapons i mentioned swing almost the same way as swords but just look differently.

You can't use your own weapons but I have thought of adding more melee weapons besides swords with different abilities.
It'll be a staring contest. If you take the initiative and run towards the enemy, he'll just wait till you come close enough (or shield till you finish combo) and SLASH.
LD capture system and the speed of strikers kinda hide that.
