The collaborative list of small suggestions

Usually I'm against collaboration threads due to the fact that they draw attention away from each idea and lack of reading feedback means that OPs usually lose control of their threads. However, I've noticed a large number of brilliant, yet small suggestions pop up, recieve good feedback, then disappear due to being complete. This makes me sad, as I'm not sure if the developers got to read said threads so I'm making a "clothesline" thread to keep some of those great ideas in one place, where they won't be lost forever. (and therefore duplicated many many times)
I'll be putting simple, undisputable, one-liner ideas up here, ones that are relatively easy to understand and possibly easy to implement. There won't be balancing suggestions here, as those requires indepth discussion. If you have anything to add, be that to existing suggestions or your own, leave a comment. If you disagree with any of these ideas, I'd like to hear why. 99% of these suggestions are not mine: I take no credit for them. (I'm actually working on a page on the wiki going over all the suggestions that have been added into the game, and who suggested them)
Ok, here we go:
▓▓▓▓▓ SECTION #1: UTILITY ▓▓▓▓▓
- ✔ Allow us to change our knight's name
- Make the original name unavailable for 30 days.
- During this 30 day period, have the original username as a biline on the Friend List and above the Knight themselves
- Add Brinks to the Guildhall: Probably into the Alchemy Room, or as a one-off purchasable piece of furniture that can be placed wherever you want
- Allow officers to invite non-guild members to the guild hall, regardless of its public status.
- Allow officers to add players to their guild's "block list", which prevents added players from entering the guild hall
- In the Guild Hall's Alchemy Room, replace one of the crafting machines with a pet food machine
- Spectating: Allow players to "join" their friends/guildmates who are spectating a match, and be able to spectate them if they are playing via a context menu in the Social Panel.
- Scoreboard: Allow people to access the Auction House while they wait for their next match to start
- Add a checkbox to the Spiral Uplink > Mail, that hides all guild invites
- Add a checkbox to the Spiral Uplink > Mail, that hides all guild invites
- Add a third button to Party Invite requests that allows you to ignore all party invites. The Activities tab would then turn red and a button deactivating this would appear where the Party Invite button is normally.
- Add a third button to Trade Requests that allows you to ignore all trade requests. The Activities tab would then turn red and a button deactivating this would appear where the Party Invite button is normally.
▒▒▒▒▒ #1.1: CLARITY ▒▒▒▒▒
- Fix the new GUI cutting party names too short
- Bring back the energy status circles for other knights in your party
- Give dead players an icon so you know they're dead
- Resort the depth ordering on the minimap so you can see party member icons over the huge map icons
- Bring back the "Standing on Elevator" indicator, and possibly one for "Standing on Party Button" (So we know when someone's in a Danger Room)
- Improve health and shield UI for teammates
▒▒▒▒▒ #1.2: TIME SAVING ▒▒▒▒▒
- Fix Duplicate Mail: Have patch notes and maintenance mails sent as an account-wide mail, just like promotional Haven Treasury mail, so we only have to accept them once
- Accept All Mail Attachments: When buying a lot of materials off the Auction House, this would help a lot. It could possibly only apply to Auction House mail so that players don't get narky at each other over items they don't recall accepting through the mail.
- ✔ Add Contact: When composing a mail, allow the player to click on names from the Social Panel to auto-complete the name entry for the letter (As some players have difficult to type names)
▒▒▒▒▒ #1.3: MECHANICS FLAWS ▒▒▒▒▒
- Disconnecting: If no other changes are made to alleviate the problem of leavers, make it so that disconnected players are not immediately kicked from a PvP match
- Recons: In Lockdown, remove recon's footprints
- Redo the killcam so you aren't able to track your killer after you're dead
- If you are spectating a GvG match in which your guild is taking part in, restrict spectating to your guild members only.
▓▓▓▓▓ SECTION #2: BUGS ▓▓▓▓▓
▓▓▓▓▓ SECTION #3: COSMETIC ▓▓▓▓▓
▓▓▓▓▓ SECTION #4: COMPILATION ▓▓▓▓▓
These ideas have been mentioned in earlier sections, but I've compiled them here if you want to view a specific theme of ideas.
- Fix the new GUI cutting party names too short
- Bring back the energy status circles for other knights in your party
- Give dead players an icon so you know they're dead
- Resort the depth ordering on the minimap so you can see party member icons over the huge map icons
- Allow vials to be shifted to slots that don't contain anything
- Bring back the "Standing on Elevator" indicator, and possibly one for "Standing on Party Button" (So we know when someone's in a Danger Room)
- Add Brinks to the Guildhall: Probably into the Alchemy Room, or as a one-off purchasable piece of furniture that can be placed wherever you want
- Have the server return if a guildhall is closed before we enter it, so we don't have to go through the loading screen of the Garrison again.
- Allow officers to invite non-guild members to the guild hall, regardless of its public status.
- Allow officers to add players to their guild's "block list", which prevents added players from entering the guild hall
- In the Guild Hall's Alchemy Room, replace one of the crafting machines with a pet food machine
- If a member of a guild makes any changes whatsoever in Design Mode, (such as picking up a piece of furniture) have a message in the Guild's record saying "[Member] made changes to the guild hall in design mode" so that Veterens who intentionally or unintentionally mess up the set out of things without publishing can be pinpointed
- Sent Mail: Allow us to re-read (and also resend to other people) mail that we have sent
- Have unaccepted attachments automatically returned to the sender's inventory after a month has passed, with a mail from the system notifying the player that the item has been returned to them. This prevents sent attachments from disappearing into thin air 60 days after they were sent and not accepted by either player.
- Add an option to mail multiple recipients for a linear cost. Only crowns and energy can be attached.
- Add an "export to txt" option to received mail
- Spectating: Allow players to "join" their friends/guildmates who are spectating a match, and be able to spectate them if they are playing via a context menu in the Social Panel.
- Disconnecting: If no other changes are made to alleviate the problem of leavers, (such as allowing a spectator to fill the slot) make it so that disconnected players are not immediately kicked from a PvP match
- Recons: In Lockdown, remove recon's footprints
- Damage Numbers: In Lockdown. (It's toggle-able of course)
- Loadout Bug: Fix the temperamental "Not in Locker Room" bug that prevents us from changing our loadouts, even when in the Locker Room.
- Redo the killcam so you aren't able to track your killer after you're dead
- If you are spectating a GvG match in which your guild is taking part in, restrict spectating to your guild members only.
- Scoreboard: Allow people to access the Auction House while they wait for their next match to start
- Split the Lockdown queue counters by tier so that players can tell if others are waiting on a match of the same tier as them.

Spectate a friend in Lockdown from a context option in the friends list.
Pay 2 energy at an elevator to advance it by a cycle.

-Add VOIP to more places, Haven/PvP
-Make a Developer Blog of some sort so we have some semblance of an idea of what OOO is up to before they are 90% done with it
-Let steam accounts log in to the wiki

I love these ideas, admins need to look ideas like these that are player friendly and are easy to implement.

I am going to add somethings.
1.fix the recon bugs in LD
2.remove the screen shake caused by getting hit in LD
3.LD Customised lobbies.
4.improve the AH interface, nake if more functional.
5.seperating the mist and crystal energy storage.
6.add more rewards for prestige points
7.fix the new shard bombs knockback
8.fix the loadout bug in LD
I will add more later.

"Give dead players an icon so you know they're dead"
Also, put a little indicator somewhere to make it easy to tell if some one has split health with a player; I sometimes hover over players clicking the attack button because I'm not sure if some one has given them health and feel I have a big enough opening to use chat to ask and/or time to wait for a reply.
Shrink the player portrait to the size of the other party member portraits? It's not obtrusive enough to make me feel like I'm wearing blinders, but it does strike me as rather obnoxious.
Re: swipe "attack" for bombs, I'd suggest instead giving shield-bump the ability to break up ore spires- one fix for all weapon combos, including heavy swords and Magnus-types. Also Re: bomb swipe, I'd like an actual attack with maybe half of a typical gun's damage per hit, but that's getting outside the realm of small suggestions...

-Typing indicator (". . ." text bubble or something, different colors for different types of chats, disable-able)
-Option to rescale GUI to match resolution
-Alternative to the "1 dmg punch" thing... why not make blocks/minerals have a certain amount of HP, so you can OHKO them with enough damage?

"Pay 2 energy at an elevator to advance it by a cycle."
Not too sure about this one, seeing as all the Domes cycle simultaneously for every player (due to it being server-wide a.k.a cradle-wide)
I don't see how players can shove several gigatonnes of steel and stone (and therefore disturbing other players who were trying to get to the elevator leading to the level you're switching off) with just 2 mist energy. (Sorry, I wanted to go off onto a realistic tangent with that ^_^)
@Klipik
-Fix Guardian Shield
Eh, that's a lockdown balancing thread... kinda don't want to touch that seeing as it's heavily debatable all the different ways that lockdown can be balanced, so I'll leave someone else to discuss that or make a "lockdown balancing megathread".
-Add VOIP to more places, Haven/PvP
I think the main reasons for not having more than 4 people connected via voice chat is 1. Lag. 2. Abusing (especially in lockdown) 3. Absolute noise spam. 4. Inability for OOO staff to be able to track down complaints officially without having to record audio conversations
@Dragneel-Wiki
Those are all balance suggestions, which probably need their own threads (and do have their own threads which extensive discussion has taken place in), I'm trying to keep this thread for simple but useful ideas that only require one or two sentences to explain.

I went through the first 50 or so pages of suggestions to get most of them ^_^ some of the others were from memory

P.S. Also allow shields to cut down the bushes that are too low to stop projectiles, it feels wrong IMO to be tempted to bring a sword or bomb for that when I happen to feel like using just guns. More generally, I don't like feeling pressured to choose one weapon over another simply for cutting down on the tedium of those wastes of time I'm compulsively driven to do.
Move the spawn-in point for returning to Town Hall. The points for Bazaar and Arcade are not my ideal, but I can easily imagine them to be ideal for a lot of poeps, but I can't say the same for Town Hall; it's as far as possible from the AH and all the doors to other places peops are likely to want to go, except for when some promos are going, which is a minority of the time.
Maybe add to the mission rewards recipes (for first completion of missions) some bombs that are better for newbie bombers to PUG and solo with safely? I think it would be nice to encourage investing in more newb-friendly bombs; Snarble Bomb and Shock Vapouriser are token rewards and the other nice low- and no-knockback bombs might not be easy first weapons to get into, so I guess that leaves the Fire Vapouriser and Graviton lines.

Yes, fix the loadout bug. Several games I played today I couldn't change loadouts even after five consecutive deaths

- Limit GvG spectating to your team, also killcams
-Not sure if this is a problem for many people, but my SK client doesn't like the steam overlay.

Not sure if this is a problem for many people, but my SK client doesn't like the steam overlay.
Yeah, mine locks up alt-tabbing, moving window, and various other sillyness.

I would like it if Three Rings made it so the switch speed of assigned slots and prev/next are the same.
Right now, using assigned slots is way faster to switch than using prev/next.

You have a thread detailing every single refutation against the reasons for not being able to change your name?
I would very much like to see this thread.

@Hex: I meant, I press Shift+Tab to open the steam overlay, and instead I just toggle autoaim and open a bunch of menus. Still doesn't work if I bind those keys to do nothing, still doesn't work if I change the overlay keys to something else, but it works fine on every other computer I've tried it on. (a.k.a. my dad's laptop)
Also +1 to Qwote :)

Buff Haze status chance to 100%
Because it's annoying when enemies not catch status or even harmlessly pass through cloud

Haze has 100% chance. Enemies are immune because they have resistance to it.

@Onekone
No balancing suggestions, thankyou.
@Juances
It isn't 100% chance. It's 45% chance rolled every half a second.

Actually it's a 45% chance per tick. It ticks about 2 times per second.

Bleargh, remove Haze Bomb from easily available recipes so that unwary peops who are not into PvP aren't so likely to waste money on a 2-star bomb that's going nowhere.
Also, add an option to ask for confirmation when buying a known recipe. I know it's easy to see, but I tend to misremember that I've been meaning to grab something even after I get it. It's especially painful when grabbing it from HoH, since it's bound on acquisition. (Yes, I've done that. Several times. I know, I'm a stoopid airhead, but I'm not the only airhead in the playerbase!)

If you remove Haze Bomb because it's going nowhere, then you might as well remove everything from the entire right side of the HoH, plus Izola and half of the inventories of the guys on the right.
+1 on the confirmation part though.

I dunno about "everything," since there's a lot of stuff there that I want, but I'll go take a look and see since how much dead-end stuff is there since I might just have forgotten about it if it's off my radar. What I meant re: Haze Bomb, though, is that you can only get the upgrade recipes through Sullivan. If you don't like the PvP offerings, you SOL if you didn't do your homework before getting the Haze Bomb recipe. I was lucky enough to be warned before buying it that that line is exceptional in being Krogmo-based except for the intro 2-star bomb, but I could easily have wasted some crowns and bother getting and heating that item instead of something that will help fill out my arsenal all the way to the core. The other gear with longevity or acquisition issues is not deviant from patterns established by gobs of closely related gear. :/
Back on-topic, I'd really like an ability to drag and drop pills, grenades and kittens with a button that does not activate them if I let go at a wrong time/place. Also, restore ability to put an item in a slot other than the lowest-numbered empty one for those of us who like to have some items on specific buttons. This is probably a bigger issue for me than for the average player because my keyboard, mouse and gamepad inputs just randomly fail very often, and it's not an SK-specific problem, but since it might be a problem for others...

Also let people see if someone is low on energy the new UI does not have this until you get to the elevator.

@Geosmin
At first you made a good point with the Haze Bomb recipe, but then I realised that it's just a two star recipe (1,400 crowns and 50 energy for the craft in total) and it's useful for players to test out the bomb. If they like it, they can look into where to get the future recipes. If they're disappointed by it being Krogmo only, it's not much of a loss anyway.
I've already covered your recipe point in the Hall of Heroes idea near the end of the post.
@Father Frost
I've already covered this in the New GUI Fixes idea near the start of the post.

Ah, derp. I even remember reading about a cluster of practical solutions. Thanks.
P.S. I keep forgetting to mention, I think a bit of extra energy could make in-fiction sense for diverting the elevator a bit rather than diverting the whole level you're descending to, if that's the main problem. It already seems to be tracking a destination socket and jumping from one to the next as the ground rolls by, so I just imagine its reach covering one insertion point in either direction of the "default" target being tracked, with an option to divert to a secondary target at need.

"Bending the rails", so to speak? I'll add it in, but my original discomfort with the idea was that it might be a gripe of Three Rings to change the clockworks mechanics like that.

Suggestion) You know about the Energy Market tab, yes? You know how it shows the amount of crowns offered for 100 Energy in the center of the "Buy energy" side, yes? And you know how the "Buy Crowns" side instead shows how much energy you can buy (despite the fact it only allows you to buy 100 Energy at a time)? Maybe you could make the two sides more symmetrical, yes?
What the bloody hell are you ranting about?
In the "Need Crowns?" half of the Trade tab in the Energy Depot, switch the "Current Offer:" and "Buy " values so that it looks similar to the "Need Energy?" half of the Trade Tab.
Suggestion for your Suggestion) Have patch notes not sent to your account, but instead sent to the character selection screen. Although forcing Three Rings to learn how to connect emails across accounts would benefit them.

I'd prefer if server time was only visible while the inventory is. As for gunslinger hats, just palette swap the black one brown for now. Justifier having a corny Sheriff's star on it is fine.
Does making the price wheel not award hearts or vials at the end of a mission count as minor?

@Ghret
I don't understand what you're talking about. Paint me a picture.
Also your second point seems kinda far-stretched, I mean, Spiral Knights already contains the code to receive account-wide messages, (if you've ever purchased energy during a item promo you'd get one) why waste time coding more GUI stuff? Also, if it were only viewable from the character select screen, then we couldn't read patch notes the moment they're released, ingame, while we're waiting for stuff like for people to reach the elevator or for LockDown to abduct us.
@Putkinen
Added at the end of Section 1.3.

So in addition to all the amazing things I see in the first post, I'd like to add one (which I believe I've seen a few times on the forum, but wanted to let you put it into this thread):
- Make the player's crowns/CE a menu that is separate from the Arsenal menu (maybe add it to the bottom-right with the ability to hide it, just like the bottom-left menu can be hidden).
Why? Well... of the plenty of reasons I've heard before, it just makes sense that you should be able to see that at any point without requiring the arsenal menu (with the ability to hide it, if a player doesn't want to see it for whatever reason).

I kinda just wanted to cover the critical GUI issues... I didn't really want to make this thread into a "ideas on how to fix the GUI" thread because there's already plenty of those...

Swap the information in the green circle with the information from the red circle.

Not only Steam players have problem with wiki.
Kongregate players (and maybe armor game or other places where SK is) are completly cut off from official site:
- they cant take part in previev server tests
- they cant log in to foum
- they cant log in to support portal
- they cant fill in GM requests (support portal)
- they cant open CE history
- they cant use wiki
Bugs:
- blitz needle can kill enemies from behind energy barrier
- charge of certain weapons: Divine Avenger, Gran Faust, Callahan, Polaris, Argent Peacemaker, Sententza
Is exploding immediately upon releasing when knight is standing with his back next to a wall or other obstacle.
- zombies in FSC can get pushed away from the map when hit by wheels

that is all kong's fault.
all transactions are made with kreds (kong's currency), so they have all CE related issues. (aka test servers, ce history)
you can have only one knight per account. so it's not a normal account, and it's not recognized by the forum, support and wiki.

Unfortunatly you are wrong Thunder, but i also wasnt accurate on what i wrote. Kong players are not completely cut off from official site.
The more accurate would be that they have no means to log in to forum and support portal, it is possible but there is no interface to do it. It is fact that kong user ID is used as username but kongregate users 'dont have passwords' or rather dont know their passwords? Its quite fuzzy.
http://forums.spiralknights.com/en/node/33259
One time i managed to log in into official site with kongregate account. At the moment when i registred to SK newsletter, at one point i had to confirm my e-mail adress. When i clicked link in my mail (to confirm my e-mail) it redirected me to main site of SK where in top right corner, where ususally is my forum login i saw my kongregate user id, it was kongregate:xxxxxxxxxxxx (numbers). Yes, i was logged in on SK mainsite/forum with my kongregate user id. I didnt typed a password, yet i was logged in, in the process of confirming email adress for newsletter. Also i checked and i could link my SK knightname to use it to post on forum. Therefore it seems there IS an option to somehow let kong users to post on forum without second account.
Account was recognised by official site, it could use forum, link knights, i didnt check it at that time but most likely acces to CE history, support portal might be possible aswell.

"Technically, we could allow Kongregate players access to the forums (etc.) from within the game, since they're authenticated at that point. We may look into doing so in the future."

When I opened this post, I stopped writing my poetry.
I closed all of my music tabs
I clicked all of the links
I nodded after every point
I read all of the comments
I even logged into forums just to post here.
+100.
Everything here, I support. Especially bomber Iron Buckler.

Guies... don't bump
None the less I like these suggestions so +1
Add special little events to the arcade, mostly cosmetic. Like a gremlin running through the place before hoping down the little shoot behind this thing.
Maybe even have him push a few knights over c:?

I won't read it, because I know that it's fine as long as Hex is the one who wrote it.
