Not Magic (Hahn's lessons thread)

How do Gremlin Thwackers throw their axes at you, yet retain it at the same time?

Punch and Vise
Gremlins love to tinker with things. What better way to do so than to set up a shop and charge knights to modify their gear, claiming to "make it better"?
Unbinding just involves modifying the security protocols on weapons that allows them to be utilized by another entity. Apparently Gremlins have figured out how to overcome this system very easily (albeit with vast amounts of energy) while Knights essentially need to deconstruct the weapon entirely and rebuild it from scratch.
Poison
Poison doesn't "make" green bubbles, it's a passive scan built into our HUD that merely adds that visual effect when an entity is detected to be infected with the aforementioned bacteria. It makes the spread easily recognizable and allows the knight to take informed action to avoid becoming infected themselves.
Drop to the core
Technically you could parachute down, but there's a high risk you'll be knocked clean out by a swivelling Skydome Crane, get tangled up in the various frames and other doodads, or just in general be buffeted around by the unpredictable air motions down inside that ever-changing machine
Rock Jelly Merchandise
The Rock Jelly Shield is constructed with the slime's cytoplasm on the outside of the shield, and a semi-organic alloy containing the slime's nuclei on the inside.
Rocky Cores on the other hand are just the slime's nuclei.

Lol, get outta here Plat-Dragon, this isnt your thread.
Liking the nerdy explanations Hex, quite interesting speculation for a phcs student like me :P
Here is my question:
(Also, Platinum's answer if present will be ignored):
Why do gun bullets stop after a stupisly short distance? Why hasnt gun technology advanced so it actually does more damage than swords as well?

Multiple weapons:
Gremlins are known to have a comprehension of compression technologies similar to that of our own that allows them to maintain multiple copies of the same tool upon their person. We're just advanced enough to breakdown the essentials of each weapon enabling four different types of weapon and near-unlimited ammo upon minor adjustments of our suits and a physical action (most knights preferring an action that replicates "unsheathing" the weapon). Since gremlins are waging war and their technology isn't as plentiful, they can only make single-setting equipments. Hence the shield for thwackers (gotta keep axe heads somewhere safe), demos have helmets and suits providing enough space for multiple bombs at once but at the cost of a cooldown, menders' staves maintain an array of chemicals and reverse-engineered "poison" nanomachines, the new stalkers and knockers rely on energy producing rods which enable them the power to either cause catalyzm or produce enough energy to throw a compressed saw blade, leaving only their new artillery units, which seem to use heavier shields (likely containing microprocessors or some manner of ammo) to aid their cannons in firing bombs from farther away than their comparatively suicidal demo cousins.
Fiends and undead use dark matter to process and wield ammos and weapons of varying quality. From the trident to the familiar energy bullet is all likely a process of aforementioned "dark matter corruption". The haze that grievers produce would be explained by this concept as it is known to breach walls that would regularly be perceived as whole, the corruption may eat holes through these walls allowing the mist to pour through. I admittedly haven't done much solid research as the darker stratums give me the willies.
I believe the other manners of foe you encounter will be either relatively easy to infer or already explained. As all that remains are constructs, jellies, and beasts.

Do Gremlins have a cooldown on their axe throw? Or is it single use like the Mender revive? I haven't seen one use it enough for it to be illogical, it's perfectly possible that they simply carry around two axes at any one time.
I'm currently using the assumption that both Knights and Gremlins have a limited supply of ammunition, we're just not in combat for long enough to consume it all.
In lore, combat occurs infrequently and surviving the Clockworks itself is one of the bigger issues. This gives plenty of time for refashioning of new supplies, and other wargear maintenance.

@Annilaton and Hexzyle: tnx for the ingenious answers (mind blowing ones at that), really good and imaginative. Next!
*sits back, grabs a pop-corn, and waits for another question to be answered*

Gameplay-speaking, axe throw can be used multiple times. Unless patched, menders simply have a long cool down on revive and are rarely allowed to survive long enough.
Mixed up a portion of the lore and I am more than happy to retract the above if you can maintain an alternative. I also am under the assumption wargear maintenance takes place, but I more thought it would be with say a camp/ survival pack behind the scenes of our elevator ride. Once again, willing to retract to maintain thread composition.

Here's a question for you:
If we, the Knights of the Spiral Order, were able to be trained hard enough to share combat techniques and abilities of a forgotten, but legendary, warrior off in the land of Falana... would our power armor and/or energy suits be able to handle the pressures that this intense, blistering form of close-quarters combat might bring about to their internal energy systems?

@Skold-The-Drac
but I more thought it would be with say a camp/ survival pack behind the scenes of our elevator ride.
Yeah, something like that. The recon modules imply that the path, and the Clockworks itself is more dangerous than the actual monsters.
@Cyberpony
The reason that Knights are not required to be incredibly acrobatic is because wargear training comes first. Mastering the sword and shield is more practical than being very nimble and flexible: sometimes you cannot avoid being hit, and knowing when and where to deploy a shield, how to parry a blow or what section of your armor can take the most beating is very important. Additionally, Knights aren't always fighting on the planet they were trained. You cannot account for all the different environments you will be in: varying gravities, underwater, different atmospheric gases, your footing, in confined spaces, or near hazards. Honor your wargear. Walk softly and carry a big gun.

Honestly I'm trying to work a method to explain both. But any explanation suiting one I come up with doesn't exactly make sense on the other.
Kinda like why snarby appears in his gear/fov doesn't have phantasmal blades Which I'm attempting to work a full explanation for that eludes me but I know exists.

What is the reason for the mutualism between the Snipes and the Strangers?
How are Gremlins capable of being immune to their own bombs and axe attacks?
What is the reason for Devilites and Gremlins, probably the two other most intelligent hostile species, for working together? Frankly, one of them alone is so dysfunctional, let alone two.
Why is it that Recon Knight Rhendon is capable is regenerating health? Why won't he restore you as well?
If you should fight fire with fire, why won't a Combuster put out a Slag?
How does a Spark of Life work? Why is it that we don't die, but many knights we interact with will often be found deceased?
If Silversap blows are incredibly lethal to knights, why do they barely stun their allies?
How do Health and Remedy Capsules work?

Why do monsters at different tiers change appearances? How does the recon cloak disable defenses entirely? Why can't we trade minerals/crystals?

@Krakob
Sorry, I was answering some other ones that were easier and forget to get around to you.
Cutters
The cutter series was invented shortly after the great age of energy weapons began: quite an old piece of technology. The sword records the knight's swing and superimposes the blade of the sword forwards roughly a quarter of a second. Further iterations of superposition was used but most instances the weapon was used, such as against hostile wildlife on Isora, the enemy has reflexes that enable it to dodge the third blow. Additionally, the energy consumption for each consecutive superposition was exponential.
It became a staple for strikers who got a thrill out of hitting their enemies in a flurry of blows.
Back when hologram technology became cheaply available to the general public, savvy technicians and rulebreaking Knight recruits would often graffiti their weapons or wargear with holographic projectors, carvings, or various industrial paints. Isora had a uniform military at the time, so such actions were not tolerated. Now though that events have become dire, personal customizations of armors or weapons is permitted as it improves fighting spirit.
Snipes and Strangers
It's hinted at that Strangers are robotic machines installed with pre-recorded messages and were either created by the Snipes, or by a race that had a good relationship with the Snipes, but it's not confirmed.
Gremlin Friendly Fire
We have friendly fire disabled bombs, I don't see why the Gremlins haven't come up with something similar.
Either that or they've just experienced enough of their own explosions that it doesn't even phase them anymore. Elemental damage, remember?
Gremlins and Devilites
Gremlins have a genetic structure that causes them to be of no interest to the devilites. I don't even think the devilites can see the Gremlins due to their unique predicament.
Why is it that Recon Knight Rhendon is capable is regenerating health? Why won't he restore you as well?
Because Rhendon is a tightwad and a showoff.
If you should fight fire with fire, why won't a Combuster put out a Slag?
I think you're getting philosophy confused with physics.
Sparks of Life
When you reach zero health, that doesn't mean that you are "dead", but rather your power suit has reached a state at which it is inoperable, either due to damage or it has run out of power. The old system was just to feed power into the suit's power cells until the suit zapped back to life. However, this resulted in a large wastage of energy and the process became more and more inefficient the more the suit was damaged because of energy leaks and such.
Recently though, Spiral Technicians had a breakthrough in the autorepair systems, greatly improving its effectiveness. Now, to power the autorepair systems, E&Matter caps are used, dubbed "Sparks of Life". These provide the fuel to clear the area of hostiles, boost the autorepair speed, and contain the necessary materials to get your power suit up and running again.
Dead knights however, are knights that are dead. I pray that you do not meet your end in the clockworks, but unfortunately my prayers are not answered for all of you.

How are Battle Sprites able to consume materials like Waste Modules, Primal Ores, and generally any item that appears to not be a form of edible matter?
Also, since the original E-Class Sprites basically evolved/mutated into the three animalistic Sprites knights are able to befriend nowadays, does that mean that the new Sprites are basically robots and not adorable kittens, fierce dragons, or shadowy ghosts?
Why can certain Battle Sprites only utilize specific harnesses and how does a harness cause a Sprite's damage to switch from, say, elemental to normal?

@Kathrine-Dragon
Your "how come monsters change appearances in different tiers" interests me. I would leave this to Hahn, but I want to put my two crowns in. I'm assuming the Core must influence the change somehow. Either some monsters (i.e. the Chromalisk, Wolvers) essentially "grow up" or the Core's energy causes monsters to evolve. Take a Vilewood or Electreant for instance. In T1, they appear to just be wooden constructs but as you go down further, they gain more and more little changes in their appearance (more "cracks") and inflict more damage.

Here's a tricky one. Since someone has asked about how sparks of life work, can i ask something related that has bothered me for quite a time now? The thing is, sparks of life, energy, or whatever system that was used or is being used to power our suits and make it operable again after it has been badly damaged, are all limited. As such, it can only be used for a number of times.
Now my question dear sirs is this: if i dont have any more sparks of life with me, why is it that i always return to haven with no memory of how i even escaped? (I know this is just a game but since we are all in character here can someone give a try as to what the answer may be?).
Tnx :3

Health Capsules
Health Capsules are similar to E&Matter capsules except they are an older technology, aren't as effective and are way cheaper to mass produce. They contain replacements for the most frequently damaged parts for a knight's power suit. They also contain various rations and some basic first aid supplies.
Remedy Capsules
"Remedy Capsule" is a general term for any piece of activatable technology that provides instant relief from one or many various anomalies. Each type has a specific method of application (Usually these take the form of suit-boosters, small capsules that are loaded into the suit on the right-hand side of the neck, an action that requires the Knight to cease using their weapon) and one or more functions may be combined for each one. Let's just talk about the relevant ones:
Stun Remedy
This is a suit-booster that contains a currently-running snapshot of a functional suit's computer's RAM. This is swapped with the suit's computer's RAM, recovering the computer instantly from any malfunctioning programs. Simultaneously, a variation of the adrenaline drug is shot into the knight, temporarily relieving them from any concussion or dizziness.
Fire Remedy
Another suit-booster that contains compressed carbon dioxide. When loaded into the suit-booster slot, the carbon dioxide is ejected in a powerful blast from various points of the armor, extinguishing any flames.
Freeze Remedy
Previously a suit-booster containing flammable materials, when hydro-steel was invented, this remedy was improved to vibrate the power suit's motors at certain frequencies that fracture various inflexible substances while leaving the user's organics unharmed.
Unfortunately this function needs to remain as a user-engaged system as nearly any substance can be frozen to hold a Knight in place and the suit's AI currently does not exhibit the functionality required to detect these in dynamic situations, and having the suit vibrate excessively causes extreme discomfort to the Knight.
Shock Remedy
Similar to the Stun Remedy, the Shock Remedy contains a fresh RAM replacement in addition to a small amount of electronically charged, hyper-dense heavy metal. For this reason they tend to be considerably weighty. When connected to the suit, it is used as a ground by absorbing the excess current via the suit's metallic surface.
Poison Remedy
Similar to the Fire Remedy, except an anti-bacterial serum is contained in the suit-booster and is ejected when used.
A remedy capsule existed for sleep but the technician who proposed its development was fired shortly after.
Monster Appearance
As I mentioned earlier, the power signatures emitted from the core has a currently unstudied effect on the monsters of the clockworks.
Recon Cloak
The recon cloak is inbuilt with an advanced A.I that synchronizes with the recon's squadmate's suits. It analyses hostiles in its radius of effect, identifying their vulnerable points at any point of their motion or pose, then modifies squadmate Adaptive Auto in order to hit these vulnerable points. Only fully trained squads are permitted to employ this "puppet" mode of the Recon Cloak's A.I, as it requires experience with the Adaptive Auto function.
"Why can't we trade minerals/crystals?"
Minerals are speculated to be the key to opening the core. They're pretty much the biggest part of our mission. Do you give your homework and assignments away for other people to hand in?
Boss Respawn
Bosses don't "respawn", you merely "relive" fighting them. It's pretty much a fundamental to MMOs.

actually on bosses, there is an explanation.
there is more than one snarbolax, you only see one at a time because they are very territorial. each one has it's wood. usually when one dies another one takes its place. this is helped by the fact they reproduce very often.
there are more than one royal jellies. they are royal, but it doesn't mean they are few.
the Roarmulus Twins are always in production, only we destroy them fast enough to prevent an actual attack.
Vanaduke's ashes are cursed to stay forever in his royal room. when knights approach it, they turn into vanaduke again.
wait, this last one isn't exactly scientifical...

That's pretty dang interesting. /clap
I'll have to come up with more hard to answer questions!

I'm going to pass on the Battle Sprite question for now as that requires me to explain all the workings of all three sprites, something that will take me several hours to write (See the hour difference between post 116 and 120? I was thinking/typing that whole time. Same goes for other consecutive posts in this thread)
One of the Recon Ranger's side roles is to recover the equipment of fallen or incapacitated Knights. Recon Ranger selection is an extremely exclusive system: a knight has to exceed their fellow knights at least threefold in both mind and body. It's not unheard of for a duo of Recon Rangers to drag an unconscious 4-man squad up vertical surfaces like clockwork shafts or malfunctioning elevators merely using tools fashioned from their own teeth and armor (and I mean literally), or things they raided from the clockworks or its denizens.

'Tis okay. I get that sometimes questions are a little, well, too in depth (hurrhurr).

Remedy capsules: Drugs
Health capsules: Drugs
Nuff said.

Where did those Overtimers get all those pitchforks?
How do T1 Polyps shoot spikes if they are spikeless?
How did Love Puppies form?
What is the science/myth/magic of Grimalkins?
Why do Lumbers attack faster and deal WAAAY more damage than Beasts, Jellies, and even Greavers?

Why are Beasts unable to turn towards you when attacking after only one attempt?
If a Recon Ranger supposedly is threefold an average knight in strength and mind, why do those signalled by flares stand around stupidly in tier 3 with an Autogun?
Why don't you encounter Owlite ghosts, as you frequently encounter remnants of the Kat Tribe as specters?
Why can other knights exceed the four-man limit? (as shown by geo-teams)
How did those trapped knights with sub-Proto gear end up in Tier 3? How can they take so much more of a beating than we can?
How does getting whacked by a piece of frozen wood (Silversap) cause a circle of incredibly binding frost completely trap your lower limbs?
How do Jellies unleash their spike attacks? (Not the Poylps, the melee grunts)

Ahh so recon knights are the ones responsible for the rescue of downed and incapacitated knights, my mind is now at peace...

Devilites can shift both inanimate and living matter through their webway system to seemingly anywhere near where a gate is painted.
Polyps
The hardened cytoplasm Slimes shoot is generated shortly before they are required. The spikes seen on Slimes in lower depths is created to protect the slimes from physical attacks and to ward off predators.
Love Puppies
It's unknown if Love Puppies are a result of a Gremlin prank or some A.I. malfunction, but they are intentionally a repair turret that for some reason identify Knights as high-priority friendlies.
Owlites & Grimalkins
There are too many large gaps in our information sources to make any deductions on anything related to the species that were obliterated in the Kataclysm.
Lumbers are part machine. It stands to reason that they can hit both faster and harder than medium-sized canines, large collaborations of unicell organisms, or small flying creatures with wings that don't operate on a mechanical-like system.

Why are Constructs immune to Sleep, but not Poison?

Why are knights not allowed to carry Striker Dashes and Recon Cloaks and Guardian Shields out into the field?
Why do Devilities require a commute despite their incredibly speed while moving?
How are normal gun shots able to hit Royal Minis, when they're so short the bullet should whizz over them?

Beasts
Whistles emitting certain frequencies of high pitched sounds were originally used on Isora as it confounded the senses of certain species of beasts. They eventually became ineffective as evolution won out.
It seems to work on certain monsters on Cradle, at least for now.
Recon Rangers
Another fundamental to most MMOs that can't be explained with any amount of science is that the player is supposed to be the hero.
Squad Sizes
Squad sizes can vary depending on the task. The most commonly assembled squads are:
- Tactical Squad of two to four generally equipped Knights
- Specialist Squad consisting exactly four Knights, conventionally a Guardian, Recon, Striker and a Technician
- Recon Squad containing two recons and up to two light or medium-armored Tactical Knights.
- Command Squad containing a Drill Sergeant and up to five Initiates.
An Officer can replace any Knight in a squad provided they have training in that field.
This list is not exhaustive.
Clockworks Travel
Power, Bio-Fuel, General Supplies, Construction Materials, Gremlins and Monsters are all moved around the Clockworks via the vast interconnected system of Clockwork Tunnels, Elevators and Skydome Cranes. It's likely that prisoners are loaded into this same system, causing them to end up a long way away from where they were captured.
Silversaps
Being frozen by the legs is only the game's representation of you being immobilized by the freeze (as opposed to the ice forming somewhere that doesn't hinder your movement or attack)
Silversaps employ a chemical called Hailite. It's a crystalline substance and has a mostly one-way high conductivity: it absorbs heat from the surrounding area at a rapid rate. As it absorbs energy, its crystalline structure forms stronger bonds which changes it to a solid. It's this very substance that we used to develop the aptly named Hail Driver. Reserve Hailite is stored in vacuum sealed Cooling Cells to ensure the Hailite doesn't absorb heat before it's needed.
Jelly Cubes
As mentioned earlier, members of the slime family exhibit an unknown means of communication. Any unicell organisms related to the slime family in the surrounding area can respond to the Jelly Cube's influence. This is especially dangerous in areas where the floor is lined with these, as it means that at any point in time Knights can find the ground underneath them forming into deadly spikes of hardened ectoplasm.

"Why are knights not allowed to carry Striker Dashes and Recon Cloaks and Guardian Shields out into the field?"
By "Knights", I'm presuming you're talking about Tactical Knights. Tactical Knights are trained to be effective in any combat situation, toting both a strong shield and a powerful weapon of their choice. Tactical Knights make up the bulk of the Spiral Army: Guardians, Strikers, and Recons are specialists and go through a different training regime, while Technicians are Knights who excel in academics and thus focus their training on utilizing equipment rather than combat.
"Why do Devilities require a commute despite their incredibly speed while moving?"
That's like asking why do we have aeroplanes and are working on space flight when we have automobiles.
The webway allows them to travel through the clockworks regardless of accessibility by ahem foot. Greavers and Gorgos may be able to fly, but devilites cannot, Trojan walk speed being even more of a problem, and since they're made out of matter, none of them can naturally pass freely through solid steel or cross-dimension.
"How are normal gun shots able to hit Royal Minis, when they're so short the bullet should whizz over them?"
I think that's more of a design and graphics oversight rather than an explainable science issue. I mean, techincally we'd just aim down at them, but the game doesn't know if you're actually aiming at them or not (unless you have autotarget enabled) so a generic animation is used.

Why do chromalisks apparently migrate downwards nearer to the core as they age? Also, being that they are cold blooded and completely capable of living in freezing conditions, is it possible they use energy to thermoregulate?

They don't migrate down as they get older, rather, Chromalisks with a greater exposure to the core grow to larger sizes.
Your thermoregulation assumption is correct: slimes are also created by some method unknown to us that serves as a primary foodsource for them.

Why do Undead target Knights, but not Gremlins?
How does a Zombie bite attack work? It apparently does no non-superficial damage, yet the knights is unable to do any action whatsoever for a period of time.
How does a Zombie breath attack work?
Why can Menders resurrect Gremlins, but Knights can't take the same wands and resurrect fallen allies (AKA nameless mooks in The Rotting Metropolis)?
How does a Leviathan Blade's charge attack hit stationary enemies up to three times?
Where do Rocket Puppies store their rockets?
How do statues become Gun Puppies?
What is a Soul Jelly? It seems to have the head of a Phantom.
Why can Phantoms reform and instantly teleport onto buildings?
How does the Curse status effect work?

The Undead
Hex does not explain Lore, and I will explain. Long ago Vanaduke and many other living warriors have made a pact with the gremlins of the Great Colony of not to attack them, so once they are reborn, they will keep their word....for all eternity!
Zombie Breath Attacks
The zombie has an infused element inside them that makes them unique. Energy of that sort is stored inside the zombie, no matter how hollow one seems. The gas will travel up the zombie, right out of his mouth, inflicting PURE status effects upon the player.
Menders and Knights
Like Hex said before, knights are not entirely dead. That also means that gremlins are also not entirely dead. Like a gremlin can revive a gremlin. We can revive a knight, as long we have a spark to share.
Leviathan Blade
This would take me forever, but here it is: The Leviathan Blade goes with the force of gravity in a parallel motion, with its weight carrying the knight arm itself to swing three times before the knight can finally control the sword. The movement is so perfected, three hits with the blade is extremely fast, and do not hold the knight to some deadly enemy that takes advantage of the knight's daze.
Rocket puppies
As you know, rocket puppies come out of the ground in a flap. If there is a flap, there is a giant machines under each one. We knights assume there is a storage of missiles under there, but no one wants to come close to one without getting set on fire.
Status and puppies
Simple. Gremlins infuse these statuses into the puppies. They put a deadly bacteria inside poison puppies, liquid nitrogen inside slush puppies, and so on.
Soul Jellies
A jelly from the past, except then Soul Jellies are extremely rare. Why? It is because if there is a Soul Jelly, it has likely lived for a very, very long time. Enough time to consume its unfortunate victim, evolve enough to replace the Core with a skull, and change its color. Unlike other organisms, jellies can evolve...without reproduction.
Phantoms
They can't teleport because it is very, very unsafe. Transferring molecules from one place to another takes time. Even more so, you are never guaranteed that all your body parts will return to you once your are done teleporting.
Curse
Hex does not explain magic because he says it does not exist. Me, on the other side, disagrees. Curse is the arcane status of longing and power exerted by a powerful lifeform bent on merciless hell and sold its soul to some devilish lifeform. Curse is a magical status, meaning it can carry easily from claw, to even a zombie breath, even enchanted upon by a weapon. Curse usually have to develop over centuries of work, because curse can only be developed over a incredible crime in the past. Curse does not permit anybody to attack, as well as use items. Attacking or using items will result in consequences beyond belief. Since Curse is caused by a guilty crime, Curse will inflict those so that they can't attack, thus trying to prevent another guilty crime.

Why won't you answer my question about how the Bite Attack works?
Why are you beating the bush around the Phantom teleport? Haven't you ever knocked one back into a building, only to see the Phantom on top of it instantly?
Why did you ignore my question about why knights can't use the Wrench Wand?

/sigh I see why Hex stresses out so much. Do you think I can type that much?

You're fired.
Move aside. I'll replace you now. Bai.

That's a bug. It was supposed to be removed, but now it's even buggier.

Wrench Wands
Mender Wrench Wands contain Ionoprocessors: mineral structures formed in a way in which the arrangements of the atoms are ordered specifically to operate as a powerful yoctocomputer. These are hardcoded with Gremlin's relatively simple and intentionally replicatable genetic structure. When held at specific angles relative to the magnetic poles, the Ionoprocessors trigger reactions in nearby compatable matter; a specific reconstruction of said matter. This allows Gremlins to be reconstructed from the matter of dead Gremlins.
Leviathan Blade
Possibly named after the extremophilic space-dwelling predator of the same name, the Leviathan Blade was designed to rupture through heavy armor by increasing its local gravity. A miniature warp-drive core rod is embedded into the blade, and balances the weight of the sword by equally effecting the gravity on either edge of the sword. As the core rod on full-boar becomes fairly weighty on both the power suit's motors and its energy reserves, the core rod is coded to increase the effect relative to how quickly the sword is swung. A full 360 spin will cause the spacetime in the front of the blade to disrupt the matter of the target, the physical blade hits and deals the impact damage, and then the spacetime behind the blade messes up any nonrigid matter (such as biological tissue of any degree of toughness) after the wound has been dealt, preventing the rapid healing of some specific organisms.
Rocket Puppies load their rockets from a munitions feed. This, and various other minor supply systems run in small passageways in and underneath the platforms of Clockwork Tunnels.
"How do statues become Gun Puppies?"
When do statues become Gun Puppies?
Soul Jellies are elusively heavy, so so far none have been able to be recovered for study. (Read: Lore could be involved, so I don't want to shut off anyone's speculation yet)
"Why can Phantoms reform and instantly teleport onto buildings?"
They're incorporeal. They can do whatever they please and it doesn't have to strictly obey physical laws.

Wait, the first question was directed towards Annilaton, who is now fired. He answered a few questions, but not the others.
When do statues become Gun Puppies?
http://wiki.spiralknights.com/Gun_Puppy
Why do Phantoms move slower when in orb form, then?
How come Alpha Wolvers cannot be knocked down, even by a Suduruska slam charge attack and in tier 1?
How does the Backfire Barrier work? Fire speeds you up? Whuh?
Why can't knights eat the candy they get from the Dark Harvest Event?
Why does it say that Jelly Gems/Rocky Cores are delicious? Are they purposely made out of sugar or something?
How do Slimes detect knights?
How do the Wheels in the Firestorm Citadel function?
How come Vanaduke becomes stronger yet after his mask is destroyed? The Recon Module states that the mask is a source of power; shouldn't its destruction weaken the lord?
Why is a Blackhawk capable of destroying a Rocket Puppy's missile, yet its elemental counterpart, the shiny Silversix cannot?
Why do Trojan hits seriously wound a knight, leaving xyr in a daze, yet other monsters shrug it off unless hit successively several times?
Why is Rhendon's Blitz Needle apparently possessing several invisible chambers? He can unleash several bursts, before reloading several times in rapid succession. Is it because he's still a tightwad/showoff?
Why do Grinchlins paint themselves green?
Why does an Alchemy Machine require crowns?
Why do some Snipes have the ability to float like a helicopter while others don't?
Why are the stronger Gremlins always several times larger than their allies/people they decide to not murder for now? Doesn't it make them a much larger target for hostile bullets?
How do Owlite tomes work? Margrel used one to summon an unintentional apocalypse.
Where do Treasure Boxes come from?
Why can knights not join parties that are in Treasure Vaults?
How do Treasure Boxes store confetti?
Why do weapons bind to knights? Why can Strangers still buy them?
What are Golden Monsters? I thought gold was a relatively soft metal, compared to what most Constructs are designed of.
How do Chromalisks shoot acid?
How do Greavers create their status-inducing haze?
Why can't knights quickly dash across shadow fire?

I dunno about that since tier 1 chromalisks are considered whelps which apparently means puppy and that Tier 3 chromalisks are called "Bull Chromalisks"(atleast for a while it was). I also am more inline with the speculation that tier 3 chromalisks go into a breeding season since it is very very unusual to have all chromalisk types in a single biodome that has no status theme. Also that I believe that chromalisks are always agitated to the proximity of the core outside of the lizard lounge.

Answer this magical hooligan, hexzy.
How much spiral spirals can a spiral Spiral Knight spiral if a spiral Spiral Knight could spiral a spiral spiral?

Why does dashing make invincible to EVERYTHING (especially things like being smashed by a trojan) but small things on the floor A.K.A. traps?

That's like asking why heavy plate armor makes you nearly immune to all crushing/slashing blows, yet still vulnerable to piercing.

Fixed. I looked into the origins of the edit, it was fanon.
"How come Alpha Wolvers cannot be knocked down, even by a Suduruska slam charge attack and in tier 1?"
Some monsters have an astounding sense of balance and ignorance of pain.
"How does the Backfire Barrier work? Fire speeds you up? Whuh?"
A power transfer occurs between the Battle Sprite and Knight at the time of the Barrier's erection that gives a temporary boost to the Power Suit's motors.
Why can't knights eat the candy they get from the Dark Harvest Event?
What do you think happens at the "expiry date"? Do you really believe that confectionery expires that fast? The strangers make a killing in toothpaste sales every November.
"Why does it say that Jelly Gems/Rocky Cores are delicious? Are they purposely made out of sugar or something?"
What do you think unicell organisms store food and energy as? Chicken drumsticks? Vegetables? Complex fat molecule chains?
The most simplest forms of food are Sucrose, Glucose and Fructose.
"How do Slimes detect knights?"
If you're laying on a floor, and someone walks on you, you're going to cry out in pain.
Same thing with slimes. They might not have a sense of touch, but having cells near them randomly die is reason enough to be annoyed at the attacker.
"How do the Wheels in the Firestorm Citadel function?"
A wheel works by rolling. Rolling is an extremely effective way of reducing friction caused by sliding.
How come Vanaduke becomes stronger yet after his mask is destroyed? The Recon Module states that the mask is a source of power; shouldn't its destruction weaken the lord?
Source, not output. Depending on how long it takes for power to travel from the source to the output, the output can run for some time without the source, especially with a sink/tank.
Why is a Blackhawk capable of destroying a Rocket Puppy's missile, yet its elemental counterpart, the shiny Silversix cannot?
I'd like to confirm this before answering it.
Why do Trojan hits seriously wound a knight, leaving xyr in a daze, yet other monsters shrug it off unless hit successively several times?
Do you have any idea how much health monsters have in comparison to Knights? Not to mention they're all that without needing to depend on complex armor that if any part malfunctions, the whole thing goes down. You thump a computer really hard, even with your hand, and what happens? 9 times out of 10, the computer freezes.
Why is Rhendon's Blitz Needle apparently possessing several invisible chambers? He can unleash several bursts, before reloading several times in rapid succession. Is it because he's still a tightwad/showoff?
Probably.
Why do Grinchlins paint themselves green?
The humbug leeches every color from them except the color green, which it can't see. The humbug is a humbug because it doesn't like looking at ugly monochrome Christmas trees.
"Why does an Alchemy Machine require crowns?"
Who do you think put it there?
Why do some Snipes have the ability to float like a helicopter while others don't?
All snipes do. Some are just Lazy Snipes.
Why are the stronger Gremlins always several times larger than their allies/people they decide to not murder for now? Doesn't it make them a much larger target for hostile bullets?
Yeah, so? Larger gremlins means they're stronger and can build more stuff with ease. Who cares if they're easier to hit, Gremlins are easily rebuildable after all.
How do Owlite tomes work? Margrel used one to summon an unintentional apocalypse.
When you see apocalypse-causing tomes in common use by the Spiral Knights, that is when I'll explain.
Where do Treasure Boxes come from?
They're storage containers for various small scale parts and crowns belonging to the (now dead) inhabitants of the level. If a Gremlin needs to store a Gyroscopic Jiggeristinator, he's not going to put it underneath that stack of 27200mm Tri-support beams.
Why do weapons bind to knights? Why can Strangers still buy them?
It's a security protocol that the Spiral Knights utilize on a large scale. It's a custom encryption for every single weapon that prevents large-scale remote hacking of weapons or allowing weapons to be utilized by an enemy.
No clue why the strangers want them though. If they're offering good coin, and they've proved very useful to us thus far, they're trustable.
What are Golden Monsters? I thought gold was a relatively soft metal, compared to what most Constructs are designed of.
Tell you what. You find a "Gold" Monster, and I'll run a diagnostic of it remotely via your Power Suit's scanners.
If you're talking about Gold Shankles, they only shine gold because they're so brilliant. Get it? Because they don't show their weak points like idiots?

Dashing
Dashing is sort of a jump/dodge maneuver. Of course, this is a videogame, with limited resources so an animation can't be made for every single different dodge type. Essentially what it means is your knight repositions themselves in the jump so that they do not get hit by an attack. However, jumping over traps long-ways is always going to be trouble: It's the difference between diving through a large hole in a wall without being touched by the wall, and diving over a very wide waist-heigh hedge without being touched by the leaves. You can't jump over extremely hot substances either because you'll be cooked.
"How much spiral spirals can a spiral Spiral Knight spiral if a spiral Spiral Knight could spiral a spiral spiral?"
Isn't it "How much Spiral could a Spiral Knight spiral if a Spiral Knight could spiral spirals?
Saying it any other way just doesn't make sense. Plus it doesn't retain the overall feel of that tonguetwister.

@Sandwich-Potato how about with silversix? We need proof of the conditions in the question to answer it.
[EDIT] Scratch all that, responded to questions because I didn't see the third page, ^^;
Punch and Vise are two very intelligent gremlins. Punch figured out how to alter the standard mechanics of our gear that dictate its stats(the way Hex described UVLs before); however, he did not completely master his technique, thus it is randomized in type and strength. As for Vice, he did something similar, but with the system in place that doesn't let our enemies use our weapons we have equipped. We're not entirely sure how though.
Referring to the research of biotech Hahn (Hex), as the tiny (vog danger it, forgot the word) little particles of the poison status eventually disperse, they do so in the bubbles you see when poisoned.
That is true contradictory to Spiral HQ's info on the fire status; it says "Get close and share the love!" It is possible this used to be the case.

Here's a tricky one.
Gremlin Goggles
Have we seen gremlin eyes?
Why do gremlins wear goggles all the time?
Why don't they reveal their eyes?
Do they even have eyes?
Knights' eyes
What about our knights' eyes?
Why are they glowing?
Are we some alternate species of gremlins that do not reveal their true body form but wear goggles too?
How can we change eye colors as we please?
Language
Why do we even speak the same language as gremlins do?
Why are devilites also capable of conversing in our language?
Stuff
If we wear the same goggles that makes glowing eyes as gremlins do, why do we have eye accessories such as goggles? Goggleception?
What causes the phantasmal blades and ghost wolvers to appear behind the DVS and WHB, respectively?
