Pick a time. Anytime after Noon EST (-5 GMT) will be fine for I will be at collage. Hopefully I will have fuel to get home...
Skylark Down RP (discussion thread)(apps open)
Urm.. Thinslayer. I was going to not join again, cuz your roleplays (No offense intended) always.. die off.... and.... there's always a lot of people. but I'll give it a try. Oh, and I'm applying for mother teresa. *Evil laugh*
Name: Mother Teresa.
Character: Topoyozariane
Personailty: Crazy, evil, but sometimes act insanely insane. But she is sane.
Loadout: A Dagger hidden on a sheath on her hip, and a sidearm for self defense.
Strengths: Evil genius.
Weakness: Lack of strength and fighting skill.
Biography: Once a Intel Agent, like Kora, she was captured in the war against the Morai. She was tortured to give up information. She was strong, but in the end, she broke. That was how the Morai sucessfully won the war against the Spirals. They gave her serums and brainwashed her, making her against the Spirals. If someone could somehow reverse the serums and brainwashing, she would be free, and would be fighting the Morai again.
Damn: Well I suppose we let Thin decide this one. To be honest I was hoping to have that role by default. Mah, IDK in this I must look to Thin.
Also: Topoyozariane, don't get me wrong. But the Bio for her just comes off as wrong. Being brain washed would normally not put some one in that kind of mood. If all said, if she was in this for her personal gain, like she wanted to be this way it would be more believe able as well as give into the fact she truly is beyond help. To make the decision herself to make the plunge would make her more complex as a villain then just brain washing.
Short, well written, and needless of an overly over done app, such as mine- The apps people make if they're trying to hide their failures by adding TOO MUCH detail.
But... then again, A little more detail can't hurt right?
@Topoyozariane: Yeah, I'm painfully aware that my RPs tend to die off. That's why I've got Darkwatck helping me. ^_^
Since I'm not ready to officially assign apps yet, I can't tell you whether your app is accepted. However, your depiction of the character is not what I had in mind for her. Since Darkwatck is pretty good at guiding RPs, Teresa is just about perfect for him.
That doesn't mean you won't land the role, however. Depending on how badly you want to play Mother Teresa, I might recommend making a convincing case for why you should be her player instead of Darkwatck.
Otherwise, I think you should write up competitive apps for either the Recon or Male Love Interest characters. Just because Edolas and Liminori have made apps for them doesn't mean they're closed off to you; it just means you've got competition.
Does the battle sprite talk? Or does he solely communicate through actions? Is he largely independent, or does he only act upon one of the Delta Squad's commands? Also, no bio and intro?
Battle sprites can talk, but they don't always. Many prefer to maintain the appearance of subservience, and thus prefer to not speak at all.
Battle sprites can be largely independent as well, but again, they prefer to maintain the appearance of subservience, and thus will usually only act upon direct command.
Your sprite may be different.
You can make a bio or intro if you want. ^_^
Also, I'm thinking of introducing a few other ideas into the story:
*Love triangle between the male love interest, Evaria, and a certain damsel in distress.
*Betrayal by either a love interest (to add romantic tension) or by the other teammates (to explore their characters more). I lean towards the latter.
*Betrayal by the Spiral Order to add substantial tension. It need not be sinister; it could just be a misunderstanding.
*Temptation to join the Morai Legion. If Midnight-Dj's Affraiel is accepted, this could turn into a very interesting story arc.
@Midnight-Dj: Affraiel is accepted!
@Edolas: Solomon Trent is accepted!
Player: BB
Name: Gorram "Ghor" Khazaim
Gender: male
Faction: Morai Legion
Equipment: Warden Armor, Warden Helm, Warden Shield (Guardian Shield), Jalovec, Volcanic Pepperbox
Personality: chivalrous, protective, professional, authoritative
Biography: Born the bastard son of a high paladin within the legion, Gorram's life was one bathed in infamy. With his father executed for failure in service to the high priestess, and his mother abandoning him at a young age, Gorram had no where to turn but the legion that scorned his very existence. Offering his life in service to the high mother, Gorram found peace through faith and valor on the battlefield. As the years passed, Gorram overcame his heritage, and instead became renowned as a fine leader of men. Holding his men strictly to the code of virtues, Gorram has persuaded many conflicts to end through assurances of protection and absolution. Though he would attempt to dissuade others from needless deaths, he has also shown great ability with a blade. How it is that he came to be associated with Diavolo Sintaris isn't entirely clear, what is clear is how the two argue over ethics and where negotiations should end and assaults begin. Despite their slight altercations, the two have proven to be an extraordinarily effective pair that can accommodate any situation, covering each others weaknesses. Many believe the two's meeting wasn't chance, but something grander; a ying-yang combo of light and dark, good and bad. The holy crusader and the hellish enforcer, entwined in a mission to spread and enforce the High mother's law.
Battle Sprite
Type: Drakon lvl 105
Abilities: Meteoric Firebolt, Backfire Barrier, Explosive Firestorm
Name: Sol
Personality: Sol is quiet and observant. He seldom speaks (even though battle sprites can!) but when he does, it is with few words, but he rarely finds the need to speak. He is loyal and devoted to the Delta Squad's members, and often will patiently hover by them, intently listening to them speak. In a way, he is less of a weapon in battle than he is a moral supporter. Sol never takes the forefront in battle, unless ordered to, and intensively observes his surroundings, instantly engaging anything he deems a threat to the Delta Squad. The most prominent attribute of Sol's personality is his expression of self through his actions. Through this, he is his own unique character, and a member of the squad, rather than just a simple tool.
Bio: When Sol (Insert Artistic Liberation here) and thus became a Drakon, he was able to hone his abilities by (Insert More Artistic Liberation here). When Sol was first assigned to Delta Squad, which was given the honour of being the only squad to be at a great enough level to have the Drakon Battle Sprite, he was pretty apprehensive and even slightly arrogant. Despite it being a battle sprite's duty to fight unquestioningly, he felt undignified to be treated as a weapon of sorts, just because his abilities surpassed other battle sprites.
But there was something about the Delta Squad that seemed to change Sol's thoughts. They communed together well, not just as a battling group, but they were really strongly connected as friends (in Sol's eyes). Despite his lack of engagement in the group, he did enjoy watching them work together, and realized that he maybe just wanted to belong, being so different form other battle sprites.
@Blessid-Bombardier: Seeing as apps for the Morai characters aren't generally forthcoming, and considering the quality of your app and your writing skills, I'll accept your app right off the bat.
Congrats. ;)
@Hexlash: I'm about to open up another character. Would you be interested in playing a certain Almirian princess named Dejah Thoris?
Dejah is the (orphaned) daughter of High Chancellor Lord Brandell. She is well-versed in the arts of "magic" (weaving) and is a competent fencer with a Flamberge. Despite coming off as a little air-headed, she is quite cunning, easily able to navigate and manipulate political struggles with ease. In this story, her purpose is to intentionally derail the main plot, since Delta Squad could otherwise just waltz up to their target and kill it within the first few pages.
She also serves as a rival for Solomon's affections.
Interested?
Slight problem, not good with the personality...
Thinslayer, I'll take any character I get, but in this case, you haven't posted the character up on the original post, yet.... And you did already fill in all the fields, so are you offering for me to take that position? Or am I so far from your drift that I can't see Cradle anymore?
Dejah Thoris has just been added to the roster of playable characters. I am offering you the position.
Dejah... She sounds quite a nice person despite her role. That, and you just pressed several of my Kawaii buttons that rarely ever get pressed.
(Mind: "You... You're different from the rest of them, aren't you?")
Bumps of editing!
So basically, Ensure that you can keep my mind sane, or that I do not encounter said person 100% of the time.
*Mysterious Grin*
Um, sure, I'll try Dejah! Though I might need a bit of direction on how exactly she fits into the story, as she seems quite ambiguous and irrelevant to the premise of the story, coming from Almire...
And to be honest, to get it out of the way before it becomes a problem: I have little to no clue who exactly the Morai are. I've tried to understand Spiral Knights lore, but I don't really know most of it, so can you clarify as to what exactly is this conflict with the Morai and everything, because I can't really find anything about it on the Wiki.
EDIT: Dejah Thoris simply adds more flavor to the story, kinda like a spice. No, she's not particularly "important" to the story, but I think the plot would be far too short and a bit boring without her. I'll brief you on it should you decide to command her.
Got accepted. Yay.
And Poor Solomon, I feel like he's going to get very morally conflicted.
But just have to wait and see I guess.
I was kinda hoping to get the battle sprite, 'cuz', but I'll gladly have the honour of playing Dejah; Solomon, prepare yourself. :D
@Hexlash: Hey, if you really want to play the battle sprite, I certainly won't stop you. ^_^
Also, the story thread is up.
Thinslayer is playing portal with the forums, my mind has been beegoogled.
Is there a reason you removed the short intro passage of Evaria saving Solomon, and then coming down in a haphazard drop-pod?
Im wondering if I should start from that point, or to assume that no pods have launched yet.
I removed it because it was for the benefit of the player in question, and no one else's. I would like it if you'd start from that point. ^_^
@Hexlash: lol yup. I did my best to make it easy.
Wasnt Evaria the one in the drop pod with Solomon?
Am confused.
Hey again. I was originally going to take a 1 story break with the roleplaying, but then remembered I wouldn't be doing anything otherwise. Anyone currently spying the recon or battle sprite? I'll think on taking either, or else I'll wait for another role to pop up.
Submit an app for both of them, and I'll compare yours with Liminori's and Hexlash's apps for those characters. The best app wins.
I would take the male love intrest, but I'm not good with relationships. The recon I would like, but I'm pretty sure Hexlash would win....
Here, just in case:
(I suddenly have a lot of intrest in using girl characters. xD)
Name: Mira
Player: Topo
Loadout: Azure Guardian armour, Heater shield (With Spiral Knights coat of arms) Valiance, and Irontech Destroyer. (I prefer not to bring the Iron Vanquisher.)
Personality: A cautious girl, she tended to ask questions first, and shoot later, unike most of her squadmates and friends. She's always friendly, and knows how to lift the mood when it's dar and depressing.
Biography: A normal girl, she ventured into the woods every tuesday, to try and discover everything. One day, she was venturing into the woods again, when she heard a low growl. Turning around, she saw an Alpha Wolver, and two more Wolvers, preparing to strike. Pancking, she forgot that Wolvers were provoked by sudden actions. The Wolvers chased Mira into a clearing, where they suddenly lost track of her. But in fact, she was just besides them, her face and armour hidden by mud and leaves. She turned virtually invisible. That was when a Spiral Knight on a patrol found the Wolvers, and killed them. He was about to leave when he saw Mira, two eyes staring at the knight. The Knight was impressed, and reported this event to Feron. Feron then chose her as Delta Squad's backup recon.
Intro: The pod crashed into Cradle, bits and pieces breaking up. She climbed out of the Pod, dizzy from the impact, when she saw another pod, right next to her. Blasting the door open with her Valiance, she saw a knight, breathing faintly. She carried him back to the tempoary base, but it was too late. He had died on the way. Furious at the Morai, she swore that she wouldn't have mercy, for anything that posed a danger to the Order.
What attributes does a female recon bring to the table that a male recon does not?
I can think of a few things. But I want to hear you make a case for it, because I'm not inclined to make an exception on a whim to my policy of keeping most of the cast male.
I suppose I should tell you now that the intended story works best if Solomon leaves the dead girl alone.
I will neither confirm nor deny whether this girl is Evaria, though I suppose you could force my hand if Solomon were to carry her all the way to Haven (dangerous as that would be).
Hi, there thin, this is probably the first time I have done a RP, so I have some questions.
-Do I just start my own adventure at the story thread and see what you throw at me, or can I continue the story branch of Affraiel vs. Ozlo/corrupted senate ? If it is Ozlo, I promise I won't make him the bad guy, he is just a bit single minded and a bit full of himself when it comes to Affraiel, after all Ozlo did jail Affraiel for years, so neither of them trust each other.
-As for the RP rules (godmod and what not), do keep in mind that Affraiel is wearing a suit of modified ironmight armor that protected him from a planetary fall. He probably collided with the ground at terminal velocity. Imagine if you fall from stratosphere all the way down to Earth surface, it is gonna take one hell of a armor to survive that. One weakness to the armor would be its rechargeble powercell, which would seal Affraiel into an iron coffin if it runs out of power and have to recharge.
-My story would be written in a script style, hope you don't mind, and also, would it be possible for me to have a younger and inexperienced version Of Lt. Desna as my companion? It would help greatly in exploring Affraiel's personality.
@Thin Would like to discuss a cool little idea I had, anychance you have Steam? I could add you and talk to ya easier. If not, lemme know when we can meet (P.S Mondays/Wednesday are a no go)
@Midnight-Dj:
1. I prefer the second option, replacing Ozlo with Serris.
2. The armor won't protect you from terminal-velocity falls. That's what escape pods are for. It is indeed very tough armor, but it's not THAT tough.
3. Affraiel is part of Delta Squad, remember? Evaria actually plays that role to a T.
@BB: I don't use Steam (though I have it). Feel free to PM me in-game.
Kora is currently the only Intel Agent on duty at the moment. She has two main systems available to her: the monitors (kinda like what you see in the Ready Room) and the switchboard. The switchboard keeps track of all incoming calls, and she can transfer a few of them to the monitors. Then, using the speech-to-text functions (and the built-in helmet cameras for each knight), she can see what the knights are calling about in a glance. This allows her to determine the priority of the calls. Once she has determined which call to take, she flips a few switches, presses a button, and introduces herself.
The monitors take data from helmet-mounted displays, video cameras, and the rare satellite. As noted above, they can also display textual information from various sources, including knights' calls, electronic reports, recon modules, and such like. She also takes video calls on them sometimes.
She's pretty good at her job, so she rarely gets overwhelmed.
Now, maybe I can allow Nezula if she only works for Lord Serris and only communicates with Affraiel. Intel Agents are important story-movers, and I can't allow you that level of control, but as long as she is no more important than any other NPC, she'll be fine.
Battle Sprite
Player: Dmatter
Type: Drakon lvl 105
Abilities: Meteoric Firebolt, Backfire Barrier, Explosive Firestorm
Name: Gojira
Personality: Analytic and takes his duty as a sprite first, but might throw in an off-handed joke to lighten moods. Although she can be independent on his own, she'll generally try to gain permission first. It's supieior abilities allow him to be fairly useful in a fight, though xe prefers support play. Enjoys flammable or of fire alignment materials, dislikes cold or fire retartent materials
Bio: Before the Skylark crash, he was part of the last line of the Proto type sprites made, which contained a stronger power supply, allowing them to do slightly more than the average sprite. Upon being ejected, she found itself in a depth fire themed. Over the next few hours, her body had slowly mutated/adapted into that of dragon-like shape to prevent damage from the extreme heat that surrounded him. Once his energy recharged enough to return to his squad, she did just that. Although along the way, xe realized it might have some explaining to do of why it's a dragon...
There, sorry I couldn't post on sooner. If this one fails I might write one for a recon. Gender confusion intentional. Might edit it over the course of a couple of hours, I'll make note of such if I do. Please bring to attention any problems that may be in this app. More various legal text.
#1: Topoyzariane's recon Mira
#2: Liminori's recon Leeroy
#3: Hexlash's batte sprite Sol
#4: Dmatter's battle sprite Gojira
#5: Pipipipipi's battle sprite Fildisk
Now, to choose between them all...
Results:
#1: Clarification required.
#2: Reasonably well-written. Awaiting Topoyozariane's reply to the above comment before deciding.
#3: May not see much activity in-game. Undecided.
#4: Unacceptable.
#5: Unacceptable.
Oooh. Okay. Right.
Might take a while for that... (Gah. At least I know that we're slowly progressing)
/derp
Name mix-up. I'm waiting for Topo's reply to my comment on his app before I make a decision.
How come you deducted there might not be very much activity? Is the story line going to inhibit the Battle Sprites interactions or something? And, if I can't use the battle sprite that much, I could then also play Dejah, and heck, I could even drop the battle sprite if you change your mind about Pi's or Dmatter's apps.
@Dmatter: Upon looking over your app a second time, I can't remember my reason for rejecting it. Consider the rejection redacted.
@Hexlash: Glad you replied. See, while the battles are important, I reckon they won't be as numerous as conversations. If the sprite doesn't talk much, it might follow that he won't see much activity.
Well, my battle sprite was never really battle orientated anyways. I was aiming for the battle sprite to be characterized as a unique individual, without ever speaking. He would be most crucial during certain parts of the story, because he provides not battle or dialogue support, but rather an interesting "speak through your actions" kind of thing.
More so, he would allow the members of the squad to explore their own identities, and develop character. Think of it as if you're having a rough day, and you just sit down and talk to (if you have one unlike me) your dog. Of course since Sol's sentient, he can provide greater guidance and understanding, but he appears, as you stated, subservient.
Remember the Intel Officer is a NPC. Though I give you credit for remembering you need her help try not to take actions or put her in any place of control for Players. She has a vital role threw out any RP and that is the discrimination of information and movement of a story. This is just a fair warning, not in trouble just giving a heads up I suppose.
I'm attempting to imagine how it would play out. I cannot seem to find a good reason not to relegate him to the role of NPC. You are a good writer, and I am not inclined to let your skills be wasted on a character that will not see much dynamic interaction.
Specifically, I have difficulty seeing why you would be needed to make the battle sprite interact with the other characters in the above example. I can handle NPCs rather well-enough on my own, since they do not appear commonly (i.e. every 2-5 posts or so) in the story.
What do you offer to the battle sprite's story that I cannot?
Not sure what you mean.
I was only quoting Kora's line that Thin Posted, and the responding from Solomon's PoV.
The movement of the story, would be to get everyone to the camp through signifcant RP.
Solomon asking to Rendezvous, without any knowledge known to him from the hectic situation he's in, doesn't seem out of line to me.
Could you please explain it to me clearer, or could Thin perhaps?
We'll need to discuss plot details tomorrow. I likely won't have time to do it live in-game, so we'll have to settle for PMing each other back and forth.
