For those who've missed the sprawling epics like the Return to Cradle saga, I have a present for you.

I don't have a title for it yet, and the plot (and game mechanics too) is still very much in the development stage, but I already have a few exciting new concepts planned out.

Darian Reflet, Captain of the Storm Legion
Wanna join one of these?
In case you didn't get the message, everyone gets at least one of these.
Happens all the time around here.
With magic, too.
It ain't all battles, though.

Excited yet?

I'm taking ideas if you guys got any.

Nice pictures! You could count me excited. As for ideas, I like Almire, and I was thinking about maybe a regiment that survived the fall of Almire, and regroup to try and take back the city, where in the final battle they all die. Any thoughts on a doomed rp?

I decided that the setting takes place on Isora, during the Isoran Civil War. I have all seven members of the Spiral Council created and ready to go. The trouble is, until I have the game mechanics set up, I won't know how to use them.

Mor plotz.

The story so far...

Isora is in turmoil. The seven members of the Spiral Council, Darian Reflet, Serris Lengsk, Winter Grey, Cecilia Barlowe, Solomon Trent, Desna Conroy, and Evaria Sintaris have each split off with their respective legions, throwing all of Isora into civil war. You, player, could be one of these members, and it will be up to you to decide how the war will end.
__________

I haven't yet settled the grievances between the council members that caused them to split off. It's important that they each be of sufficient weight that the players choose to stay separated of their own accord and voluntarily avoid alliances with other players.

@Saucce: I didn't make those pictures. I found them on the internet. :P

I'll gladly take part in an RP where I can become the main character of Waifu Emblem : Awakening.

Jokes aside, I agree with Liminori. Too long have my hands waited to command an army.

That consists entirely of bards using only lutes.

I mean, just think about it.

More Mechanics

Instead of magic, characters use alchemy in much the same way it's represented in Fullmetal Alchemist. Harnessing that power is not natural; one needs to have the requisite Drive Circuits in the body. They are activated by marking them down with liquid minerals. If you want to be a flame alchemist, you mark it down with crimsonite, for example. The seven Captains of the Spiral Council are all alchemists.

Serris Lengsk is an ice alchemist, marked with valestone.
Winter Grey is a nature alchemist. She uses a Tome of Rage in combination with valestone markings.
Darian Reflet is a plasma (electricity) alchemist. He uses a Thunder Tome in combination with moonstone markings.
Desna Conroy is a flame alchemist, marked with crimsonite.
Evaria Sintaris is light alchemist, marked with luminite.
Cecilia Barlowe is a weapons alchemist, marked with moonstone.
Solomon Trent is a light alchemist, marked with luminite.

These alchemical assignments are likely to change at any time.

Each player begins with a 1-million-man army that you can customize at your leisure with any reasonable gear from Spiral Knights lore. How you choose to outfit your army does influence the outcome of your battles, but since we're not going to be doing any complex mathematical calculations here, don't count on it making a huge difference unless the outfits are really groundbreaking. All knights are equipped and trained with standard Azure Guardian gear, so if you have them equip some other weapon set, they will need training with it before they are truly effective with it.

Polar Legion is stationed at the polar caps.
Storm Legion is stationed along the coasts.
Rage Legion is stationed in the jungles.
Iron Legion is stationed in the mountains.
Gold Legion is stationed in the deserts.
Azure Legion is stationed in the plains
Rose Legion is stationed in the capital.

I could use a world map of Isora, if anyone's willing to form one. If not, I'll make one myself at some point.

None of the council member have been assigned to any players yet, so there's no need to worry about openings just yet.

I want a map with a variety of terrains. The capital city, Va'Isor, is at the center of the map. There should be a major city in each major terrain area, along with various surrounding suburbs. There should also be a number of islands in the oceans, with at least one city therein. Roads should be marked between the cities and suburbs where appropriate. If you could create road, city, and terrain patterns that would lend themselves to interesting stories, that would be awesome; a mountain pass, for example, would make for a great ambush scene.

*giddy & excited that Thinslayer is making another epic* ^^

Maybe some sort of undermining spy, scout. Perhaps just the adventures of one of the soldiers under the command of these powerful captains, just cataloguing their life amidst the life changing decisions of the captains. Or a peasant caught up in the war, giving us a glimpse into the innocent lives, if there is or ever was innocence. How about some political scholars or alchemy professors pursuing knowledge, that transcend the quarrels plaguing the land, maybe even Morai intellectuals?

Custom Characters Permitted!

@Hexlash: That's a really cool idea, actually. Having scholars, politicians, and intellectuals engaged in the story would add a great new dimension to it. I'm not keen on having small-fries, though. There are all kinds of RPs out there that let you play as the small-fries, and I don't want this one to be among them. Player-made NPCs & supporting characters, however, are a different story... ;-)

So. Down to business. If you guys don't want to play as any of the presets, I'll permit custom characters. However, for the purposes of this game, I'm biased toward more important ones. The more important the character, the more likely I am to accept it.

Here are a few of the ones I have already planned out.
Astran Valderis as a young man during the war. He served as a commando unit.
Vaelyn as a Squad Leader.
Ozlo Yeager, Field Commander

Possible idea!

Not sure how you feel about this, but I thought it was worth a shot. What if there were to be a mercenary faction? Other factions could hire them out, but the mercs would still be working whatever benefited them. It might add another layer of complexity by having a universal friend/foe relationship.

I'd normally have no problem with a mercenary faction, but the problem is, if I add one, EVERYONE and their mother will want to be in it. No matter how many other cool factions an RP has, if there's a mercenary faction, everyone wants it. So unless you can convince me that it won't be an issue, I won't be adding it.

Mutually Assured Destruction

Everyone must have an issue that forced them to split from the Council. You must choose one.

  • Power Hungry - You have been expanding the power of your government. You think your reasons are wholly justified, but it's royally angering the other factions.
  • Slavery - Your economy depends entirely on the use of unpaid workers. Since they are inferior, you feel that there is nothing wrong with using them. Maybe they're robots, work animals, lower-class citizens, or something else. Even so, the other factions think you're committing a grave sin by forcing them to work for you.
  • Land Grab - You've been taking over neighboring lands or jobs, making them and their allies very angry with you. But you believe you have no other choice, since maybe your resources are depleted, the neighbors provoked you, or you just randomly decided their faces would look better with your fist in them.
  • Religion - The other nations around you have fallen into immorality and wickedness. You are called to be their judge, jury, and executioner. Show them the error of their ways. Make them pay for the evil they have wrought.
  • Intrigue - You've been spying on your neighbors for far too long. The assassination attempt was the last straw, and you are now drawn into all-out war over it.
  • Racism - You have created the ultimate race. You spent countless decades of your precious life perfecting the human genome, and you will NOT have it screwed-up because some dimwit got laid by a prostitute one night.
  • Nationalism - Your country right or wrong. God Bless Your Country. Land of the Free Handouts and Home of the Brave Idiots. You stuck your nose into everyone else's business because you're so much better than they are, and now they despise you for it. Oops.

In addition to the above issues, every faction has a stock of key weapons up their sleeves called "Magical-Alchemical Deconstructors," or "MADs," which are essentially anti-everything weapons capable of neutralizing anything and everything they come in contact with. Magic barriers in the way? Boom. Fancy alchemy a problem for you? Boom. Rogue planet in your way? Boom. Nothing gets in the way of these babies.

They resemble the star-like sci-fi torpedoes, but they are launched from cannons and underground silos, and most starships have a small battery of tactical-sized variants on board. They can be fired any way you like - you can direct-fire them, send them in a high arc, have them tunnel underground, or have them home in on a moving target. They are the ultimate weapon.

There are exactly two problems with them, though. Firstly, they are powered by tearium, which is a rare earth element on Isora that is difficult to mine and refine. Secondly, every faction has them. If you use yours, they use theirs, and everybody dies in spectacular fashion. Even the smaller, less-than-apocalyptic versions should be used with care, because as previously described, they neutralize (as in "destroy totally and irrecoverably") whatever they come in contact with, permanently altering the total quantity of matter & energy in the universe. It's so powerful that the very laws of physics bend to its will. Choose wisely how you use it.

What is this?! Thinslayer, I came here for an RP, not an insightful, intellectual, education, informative and interesting summary of everything I learned this past semester. I don't need to tolerate this kind of entertaining application of what I've been taught.

Sarcasm aside, I love how you've used those realistic concepts of historic ideals for this RP.

Also, "... permanently altering the total quantity of matter & energy in the universe." Well excuse me. I don't think you're allowed to break two fundamental laws of the universe in one go. Mind as well say the theory of relativity is broken by these MADs because they create reference anchors in space. That you could teleport to. Wait, what?
