I woke up this morning to see the game client downloading a patch. After installation, I tried logging in, but I can't. After about an hour, it downloaded a new patch, but I still couldn't sign in afterwards. When I try to log in, all I get is "You have been disconnected from the server"
I can't log in
I also can't log in. I've tried reinstalling and updating both my drivers and java. I also know its not my account since I tried it on a different computer that's on a different router.
My computer's info:
Processor: Intel Core Duo CPU L7500 @ 1.6 GHz
memory: 4GB
OS: Windows Vista Business 64bit
Video Card: Mobile Intel(R) 965 Express Chipset Family
Ask for more information if needed and I'll try to figure it out an post it.
Thank you!
Same problem, and my router is only six months old. Don't ask about my systems; it could run ten instances of this game if I wanted to with no problems.
try again
it was working fine this morning until the update was installed, now I keep getting You have been disconnected from the server
Rayen, it seems like your router could be the culprit. What kind of router do you usually use?
Bielg, you need to provide more information. Telling us your computer can run the game is fine, but we need more to go on than that...
Out of curiosity, what IS the router you are using?
I'm having the same trouble, too! My game patched at around 10CST and I've been trying off and on for the couple of hours to log in, but no dice. I've been playing the game problem-free since Beta (and as recently as a couple nights ago), so I'm a little surprised. These are my specs:
Windos Vista Business (32-bit)
Processor: 1.80GHz
Memory: 2GB
Display: 1280 x 800
Video Card: Mobile Intel(R) 965 Express Chipset Family
I suppose I should also mention that Rayen and I play together, though we live separately. Haven't yet tried seeing if my account can be accessed on another computer, though... I'll try that now. My router is a Linksys brand, but I'm not sure which type.
ETA: I completely forgot! I did try uninstalling and reinstalling, as well as updating my Java, but I still got the "You have been disconnected from the server." message.
I have been having the same problem. I have already un-installed and re-installed Spiral Knights, restarted my router, checked for java updates, checked my firewall, took down my firewall(then put it back up), trying 3 different computers not including my lap top(one of them isn't strong enough to handle SK), reboot the computer, re formatted two of my computers, tried using IE and Firefox to log in (chrome is my main browser). Went to my friends house and I was able to log in using her computer.
But I think 30 min after the reboot I went ahead to install the patch which took a whole 30 seconds probably. I have been trying to log in for about 5 hours now.
I use facebook to log into my account.
Router Model: WRT54G2
It's time to catch some Z's for now, Good Night!
Users with a Linksys WRT54G router were having this problem with the 5/17 patch. The WRT54G2 may also suffer from this issue because of Linksys' firmware "support." Have you tried updating your firmware?
(I did restart my router before posting as one of my steps, sorry for not saying that! Also restarted my computer)
My router is a Cisco and the same router that I've been using since SK launched, so I find it odd that it would be the router... but, honselty, stranger things have happened.
Thanks again!
Cisco bought Linksys----they're the same company now. Like I said, something about the 5/17 patch was too much for the WRT54G...
What more can you tell us? Have you tried plugging your computer directly into the modem, no router at all?
Just Googled the WRT54G router; that's definitely the one we have here at home, and it's the one I've been using since the Beta. I'll have to ask my brother to check if the firmware is updated, since he's the family computer science wizard and was the one who set it up for us. Pending that, I'll try getting SK to work on the computer plugged directly into it, although it's a desktop with different specs and OS (Windows XP).
Tried running through the cat5 gave me the same results as before. Disconnected from the server.
The last Firmware update for WRT54G2 was 7/16/2009. My Firmware has been updated to that one for a while. Could you give us a list of Routers and modem's that work well together for SK? What are you using right now? Also does SK plan on making new patches in the future to accommodate users with older routers? I am able to play SC2, everquest, and a few other MMO's using my current model without any problems which probably play heavier then SK. I am sure I have the wrong idea though.
I have no problem going out and buying a new router but I also know that they get expensive so I guess I want to know what the damage is going to be if SK is unable to fix the issue with this router.
That's really odd, users with misbehaving WRT54Gs were able to log in when the router was off, and they were connected only to the modem. Have you tried modifying ALL your firewalls, like in the Technical Support sticky? Antivirus, parental control software, etc.
I personally use a Belkin N600 DB router, but I think we should try to find another solution before you go out and buy something else for yourself.
There really isn't a comprehensive list of routers that work for sure, and compiling one would be hard because some might be ruled out unfairly due to poor computer configuration.
I'm sorry to say this, but I have reached the very depths of my knowledge about this subject. I'm so sorry I couldn't find a solution for you----my best suggestion would be to contact support: https://www.spiralknights.com/support/#mail
We could wait and see if other forum members have any ideas, but all I can really say is update everything you can think of and wait to hear from OOO.
I have a more recent model of the Linksys routers, one without an antenna. It's connected directly to my computer, and I can't connect.
Hope this gets fixed soon.
woops grabbed the wrong wire. Pluged in the one connecting to the router which is why it wasn't working. The one running to the modem is working. Thank you!
Saddly My modem only had one Ethernet port. I need the router to keep give signal to my cell phone (I live in a dead zone) and the 4 computers I have. So I guess I am still shooting myself in the foot. I don't want wires all over the house and I have a rabbit so she would chew threw them if she gets the chance so it's hard enough keeping all the wires I do have out of her reach. I guess the router is 8 years old made in China and I guess a little slip up over the weekend *cough* Dad the router is broken. Help him pay for half to get a new one hehehe.
Hopefully three rings will do something about this if they have enough users with this problem.
I have that router, but I didn't have any issue until the patch tonight. Is there a specific reason that people with that router aren't able to play? It's sounding like part of the patch is specifically to ensure people with that model router can't log in, which... makes no sense to me. Everything else works fine with the router, everything except SK now. Maybe I need to open a port or something?
I have the same router as the other guys in this thread. I am unable to log in as well. The update did something weird.
I am using the same WRT54G model and am having the same problem, although it worked perfectly for SK before. I have no idea how an update would change its ability to connect through a certain router, but seeing as this is a common router model I hope that this can be fixed quickly.
Hi again, everyone. I'd like to remind you that I don't work for OOO, this is not official advice and should be taken worth a grain of salt...
OOO might not ever put out a patch to fix this issue for you. Why? This is why:
Something in recent patches makes Spiral Knights no longer compatible with your WRT54G, I don't know what it is, but it appears only to affect older routers such as this one--or perhaps only this one. If you think that your router may be to blame, take the ethernet cable out of the back of the router, and plug it directly into your computer. If you can log in with a direct connection to your modem, you may need to update your router firmware or play on a wired connection.
The WRT54G model is about 8 years old at this point, it no longer has firmware updates and Linksys no longer provides support for the first versions of the router, so it can't keep up with new internet protocols and standards. Linksys should be the one providing you with firmware updates to ensure that your router remains compatible with the rest of the 'net, but they were consumed by Cisco, and the router is old and won't be receiving any updates.
That said, you DO have options:
DD-WRT is an open-source Linux-based firmware option for you to use----it is awesome software, but you need to proceed with caution, because installing it the wrong way could brick your router. PLEASE READ ALL INSTRUCTION PAGES ON THE DD-WRT WEBSITE. READ EVERYTHING. You can search for your router on this page; note that you will have to know the version of the router (revision number), as well as the specific model (WRT54G and WRT54G2 are two different models)----all of that information should be on the underside of the router itself.
My friend Dogrock said in another thread:
"Version 6 [the series your WRT54G is in] is when Cisco systems started shipping with a different OS installed. This Lasted for another two full revisions until Cisco realized that no one liked the new setup very much. Basically, if had a very short support life and received few updates.
DD-WRT is a great firmware to use on these devices and if you understand the risks of flashing your device I recommend it if no other option works for log in errors. I've set up more than a few WRT54G's and WRT54GL's with DD-WRT for people, the devices will chug along for years."
I know you probably didn't want to hear all this, but OOO can't really support all older hardware/software forever. The good news is, DD-WRT is free and should add many more years of life to your router! Please reply with any questions, comments or concerns.
yet, still no Spiral Knights. I would like to know if 3Rings even knows/cares that they are potentially alienating so many of their players. I would also like to know why the player should be the one who needs to change anything, if they have a nice running computer, with highspeed internet, and current software, why can't 3Rings change the problem that THEY created? It is unfair, especially to the players out there who paid 3Rings with their hard-earned money, (with intent to utilize said funds for entertainment purposes) to then suspend their capacity to be entertained. If 3Rings is working on this problem, EXCELLENT, I commend you, and I await patiently for the new bugfix/patch. If not, then I will simply take my funds elsewhere, so that I may get a feasible return in entertainment services. I'm just glad I hadn't bought the starter pack just yet, as I was waiting til my next paycheck.
Three Rings did not create the problem----Linksys did by not making sure their router firmware was compatible with what everyone else commonly uses. New Cisco/Linksys routers are ok, but the older ones can't keep up.
I just wanted to give everyone a heads up that the router is almost a decade old, and might not get love from anyone----the company that produced it doesn't even support it anymore, so it's hard to say if Three Rings will be able to do anything about it. OOO is not obligated to support everything under the sun, although they do try.
I would still recommend DD-WRT. These routers are only going to get older and more outdated, but DD-WRT can help keep them alive for longer.
I'm going to say that Three Rings did create the problem, seeing as prior to this patch it worked just fine. There was an issue with this about a month ago which seems to have been resolved in a following fix since I was able to start after it first occurred. I would like to think that with this update they may have reintroduced what was causing the problem the first time and am hoping that they will fix it again.
My router is only about 2 years old so it is slightly frustrating. I'm hoping that the e-mailI sent off to the Tech Support will be able to get me back online.
Thanks for all the suggestions and in for, Providence! I don't know about others but I liked how quickly you got back to us, even though you don't work for OOO.
Rayen, what is your router? The information I gave was about the WRT54G; if your router is different and is still having this problem, it would be good to know what it is.
For everyone in this thread, could you edit your posts/post again with the router and its version number? I am starting to collect information about this issue, to see if other MMOs are misbehaving with certain routers.
Everyone keeps talking about the 5/17 patch... but for me, SK has worked up until the 6/9 patch.
Yeah, the issue seems to be inconsistent, which suggests that people's individual router configurations are the cause. Can you edit your post to include the router and version number? Thanks.
Same story here.
I use the old wrt54g v6, and can't connect after the newest patch.
The router is definitively the problem, as found out by beryl a long time ago and the most plausible immediate solution is to install dd-wrt, which is a delicate/risky procedure for those who aren't experienced and isn't always possible for everyone, such as in my case where the router isn't mine and connects a plethora of computers belonging to others. I've contemplated buying a new router and convince the residence to upgrade but it still seems like whatever change to the netcode/connection protocol/magic incantations could be scrutinized to isolate what's making it tick with the old routers...
i cant log on too my router is a Linksys by cisco model WRT45G2
I'm using the WRT54G2 V1 Wireless-G router (this thing), although I'm using a wired connection and the firmware is up to date. Doesn't seem to be anything else I can do.
A quick question in the router hijinks: how many users have tried simply rebooting their router? The amount of transient problems I've rid myself of with a simple reboot is a bit silly.
The WRT54G version 5+ is when Linksys changed the router OS for a number of reasons, it seems like they never got tings quite right on these older devices. Newer ones I cannot count on.
I am going to have to say that this is just bad programming. A game should not be based on hardware for people to play. I understand that there are system requirements but the router I have is 2 years old and I bought it new. The game should cover routers for the past 5-10 years after they are discontinued(Maybe longer). I put no blame onto Linksys for this problem when I am able to play SC2, everquest,Divine Souls and several other online games with my current router without this problem. I have no problem money wise buying a new router but it is quiet frustrating to waist $70 to get a decent one when I have invested $60 to play Spiral Knights in my first month of playing. Which means less money for Spiral Knights because I will have to go buy a new router to play.
I will wait for a few weeks to see if any of there updates will fix this.
@d0gr0ck a reboot was probably the second thing I tried after 5 hours of trying to log on.
I've been having this same problem and I have a WRT54G. Please fix this!
I am still unable to connect. The exact error I am getting is "you have been disconnected from the server." This happens after I have correctly entered my username and password.
I have comcast (infinity) high speed internet. I also use the linksys wrt54g v.6 router
The game has ran fine up until after this current update. I understand my router is old but it has the latest firmware which was released in october of 2009.
Providence posted about a site where you can get 3rd party firmware however when I searched there for my router, the firmware they had available was just as old as the official one so I'm figuring it can't be that different.
I hope this problem gets corrected soon.
If this comes off as hostile, I will apologise first before I begin as it's not my intentions.
I am running a Linkysys/Cisco WRT54G2, like most in this thread. My router is up to date firmware-wise. The game ran fine right up until yesterday's patch, so I'm not keen to blame my router, old or not. It isn't what has changed, the patch is what changed things.
Now, I have cold booted my router, I have opened my ports, I have port-forwarded both router/firewall, I have uninstalled/reinstalled, etc. Right down the list of process of elimination.
If it comes to buying a new router, then I do not believe that's the best course of action for me to take in order to continue playing a game. If the game itself had updated its engine or hardware, such as EVE or WoW, then I might understand. But Ox3 is alienating/abandoning a lot of its player-base if they choose to blame the router rather than offer a modification.
Thank you to the admins/community helpers of these forums who have tried to offer advise, but now the ball is back to Ox3 or someone to find a better clever fix because while the previously mentioned ones work for some, they do not work for all.
I updated my router with the DD-WRT firmware and now I'm able to log in. I wouldn't recommend doing this as it might render your router useless. I hope Three Rings will find a way around this for those who can't log in.
I find it fairly ridiculous that such a bug would occur. I don't see any reason as to why this would occur, or why it is necessary to keep such changes to the game. No other game demands that I purchase a new router in order to play...
Such a shame... this game is so fun, too.
Perhaps a port forward would do the trick? Unfortunately, I have no experience in those matters...
[EDIT]: I apologize for the double-post.
You can try port forwarding; I don't remember if users have tried that in previous threads, but I'm still not sure if that would help.
Has everyone submitted a support ticket? It would help OOO understand the scope of the problem (both WRT54G and WRT54G2 owners are affected, it's a series-wide problem, possibly) if you submitted a respectful, clearly-written request for assistance.
Include a short description of what the problem is, including when you think the problem started. Then, I think the router number and version, followed by your computer specs etc.
Sorry I couldn't find you all a better solution; I really didn't anticipate the later WRT models to also have this problem, so it's probably much deeper than not adhering to modern conventions, as others have suggested.
wrt54g v5
it's up to date on firmware too. Please give me a solution.
Acer laptop. Intel Centrino processor, 4gb of RAM, Nvida GeForce Card. About 2 years old.
WRT54G router Ive had for about 4 or 5 years now. Can play every other major MMO, stream movies, skype, all of the other heavy bandwidth usage that we all like to do being the nerds we are without issue. However when trying to sign into Spiral Knights I keep getting the same message people above have been getting.
Posting this is redudant, but I am doing this in the hope that the developers who read this understand the breadth and gravity of this issue. SK is a new game, and not a big one yet, people are not going to invest in a new router to play it. People will probably just walk away. And other players who can log in will hear of how the developers dont care, and then the 'magic' will be broken.
I dont intend to sound mean, judgmental, or hostile. I am simply pointing out proven trend in the MMO industry.
Cheers
I contacted the extremely nice support. Apparently the developers are working on a solution to this problem.
^ Hurrah! That's always good to hear. And Providence, thank you so much for quickly getting back and doing your best to help. It's gone a long way towards adding patience on my end. :D
I did the same. Trouble ticket, sending log files, whole nine yards. I think they realized "Woah. A LOT of people have that router!". Irony is, I went shopping and saw another WRT54G on sale at Walmart, which... makes me just blink a little.
But yeah, put in a support ticket for those who haven't done it. Every little bit helps.
Question: How/where do you access the log files? I assume it's in a directory under Program Files, right? I ask because while I have the game installed via the .exe installer file, but there's no folder for it in my Program Files. >.>
Spiral Knights doesn't install to Program Files because it's a Java application, not a full-fledged program in and of itself.
The .log files (not sure which ones you need) should be in the game's folders in:
C:\Users\[YOUR USER NAME]\AppData\Roaming\Three Rings Design\Spiral Knights
If you'd like to try and uninstall/reinstall SK, the uninstall.exe is also in that folder.
DO NOT DELETE/MOVE/MODIFY THINGS IN THAT FOLDER/SUBFOLDERS. The game doesn't like it when you do that.
I'm not sure either, but I got a DM from the official Twitter account to e-mail them to Tech Support so they could look into the problem. To be honest, I don't even have an idea which ones are the log files. /o\ I'm seeing things like PNGV's and dll's...
There was a time when I was much more tech savvy, but I traded that knowledge in (albeit happily) for an English degree.
I am still unable to log in. I was able to update with the new patch though.
I have a WRT54G v6, but I flashed it using DD-WRT. It seems that the OEM Linksys firmware doesn't process connections for SK properly as of the most recent patches.
If you're technically inclined, I suggest flashing your router with DD-WRT... but if you're not, don't; or you will probably brick your router. If you aren't flashing your router, the best thing to do is to just wait for the devs to create the solution.
Resources for DD-WRT:
Please read everything thoroughly in the "Read Me First" section (first link) and the Peacock announcement (second link), then find your router using the first link (including the version number; very important), and click on "Install Inst." in its row. Once again, read everything contained within, and everything that they tell you to read. I'm not liable for any damages you might cause to your equipment.
Supported Devices: http://www.dd-wrt.com/wiki/index.php/Supported_devices#Read_Me_First.21
Peacock announcement: http://www.dd-wrt.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=51486
I'm also not able to log in, really wanted to try this since I saw on steam today :( But it won't let me log in, I guess this is a known issue?
Tech Support is working on it. If you're having this trouble, I recommend e-mailing Tech Support at support@spiralknights.com and explain what's going on. Chances are, they'll ask you to e-mail them the log files titled "launcher" and "projectx". (Their icons resemble .txt files.) I'm not sure what they need those specific for, though, but you can find them at C:\Users\[YOUR USER
NAME]\AppData\Roaming\Three Rings Design\Spiral Knights
But, like Providence said a few posts up, DO NOT attempt to alter anything within that directory. Bad things only a Time Lord can fix could happen. (Okay, maybe I'm exaggerating, but...)
What kind of router are you using? Please provide us more information.
Some users that have been experiencing this problem have older routers, and with recent patches they just can't handle the game anymore.
As always, please read the Technical Support sticky to help you rule out other common problems: http://forums.spiralknights.com/en/node/48
