SURELY you've milked enough from the COUNTLESS promos, each followed by another, (unending...) to afford SOME new content?

my suggestion is also a hope/wish/prayer that you guys stop choking one of the most UNIQUE mmo's around to death, and let it breath. god knows it hasn't much since nick bailed.

do you consider reskins/ junk "prize box" items New Content? (why they are called "Prizes" ill never know.. a Reward for inserting money! woo, those are called vending machines, not games) i don't think many do, how about a new expansion? a few new bosses? areas? clockworks lore... (THE CORE FFS?) we have plenty of BEAUTIFUL costumes/assortments of gear in all shapes, colors and sizes to fight them with! instead we are left playing a Glorified GAIA online which for anyone who didn't know- is a FORUM that allows you to dress an idle avitar that stands above whatever thread youre viewing...

you took away some of the BEST co op encouraging mechanics and replaced it with a way to make money off of knights ressing when out of sparks in a dungeon. now instead of playing together, sharing a goal/life youre practically alone in a crowd of strangers.

everything else aside, theres no excuse for how shamelessly you guys pump out promo's without EVER balancing out or trading it off for a REAL content drop here and there. quote "The innovative minds at Spiral HQ have created gear and accessories to help knights adapt to the harshest environments" .......

Put your Innovative minds together and come up with just ONE, ORIGINAL content patch for players that have kept this ridiculous plagued cash cow alive for you just off of what the game USED TO BE (that shows just how good it REALLY was/could still be)

break up the promo train and add some actual game content and not only would your cow live EVEN LONGER, but it would produce MUCH MORE/much sweeter milk. you'd be suprised... you might EVEN get the player base to increase and get EVEN MORE from future promos we all know you have standing by- already reskinned, labeled and waiting for whatever date milestone is next.

Spiral Knights is an AMAZING game, When will you allow people to continue playing it?

In defense of the prize boxes- most of them only feature one or two actual new models that took more effort than the press of a button to come out. For instance, spritely contained 1 new battle sprite model (snarbolax) with the others being only slightly tweaked and re-coloured. Ruby was even more recycled- the usual recoloured armor, reused apocrean accessories, even a recycled aura.

In essence, making prize boxes is cheap and does not detract from development.. which is important, because it offers a much more effective payment scheme than not having said prize boxes. Elevators and crafting are free of energy costs (unless you choose to pay for them), because we have prize boxes to pay the bills instead.

In defense of sparks of life- health revives were a flawed system in that poor play would drain the party of health, and that doing so left the health-sharer and revived party member vulnerable, in effect draining the party of health and forcing people to rely on Sonic mode while health sharing. Sparks on the other hand force people to actually improve themselves until they are capable of playing and standing on their own two feet.

If you play and don't lose or gain sparks, you're playing at the zenith of your skill. If you play and have an excess of sparks, you're playing on areas that are easier for you.. and finally, if you use that excess of sparks, you can play above your skill level and in doing so improve your skills. This system both keeps worse players out of difficult content and allows them a realistic chance at that content.

I can agree between your guys statement

Now i can see why both you guys are okay with me, yes, Prize boxes are out of hand, but i do admit they do put some effort instead of putting random color swaps, and for you Vico, i can see why your angry at the game, i get your statement, but i do admit the community is whats keeping Spiral Knights running its gears, now if only three rings can get some more effort by putting more bosses or adding more story instead of putting a big cliffhanger at the core....

i would be HAPPY with endless promo/boxes

don't get me wrong, i love this game (been here since beta) which is why im mad/feel justified) and i do not deny what effort goes into what IS created/ its necessity to keep things going while Free to play. but theres ZERO good excuses for them not releasing anything in terms of major content since the last Xpac which wasn't too big and was LOOONG ago.

all in all, PROMO your ASSES OFF... to hell and back.. fine. but if youre going to do that, FFS pepper in some MEATY gameplay content EVERY ONCE IN A DAMN while. and stick some of your reskins as rewards/ drops for PLAYING the game.

thats all, and for THIS community? it IS NOT asking too much

@the spark system

i don't buy that though, Heart res was great and the change really did make the co op play stale as hell. i remember how many major players/ guilds left when that changed. i understand the life sink argument where people didn't like the fourth wheel sorta player burning through the parties HP bars, but IMO thats no different than the SOL system in that if there WAS indeed a player who just kept dying and was a leech and was doing little to better themselves you simply stopped splitting your health with them when they werent going to be more careful. heres my extended take on all that :p if you care/ feel up to it anyway (means a lot to me, heh http://forums.spiralknights.com/en/node/100418

overall, i mostly just feel

overall, i mostly just feel that they would not only help the game itself more, but themselves/ their PROMOs would sell more if they put more work into actual content and beefing up the GAME. its a shell of what it once was and its obvious why. if they started replacing the hollow space where they ripped the games heart out with content, more people would play/others would return (myself included) and every promo would do that much better and they'd make a crap ton of money. instead it seems like they are just riding it into the dirt

@Kaiser

Oh don't get me wrong, they do put effort into the boxes.. just not enough to where I could see it taking up massive amounts development time, even from the artists.

@Viconaut

Yea. It really would be nice if there was just more in general coming out, more developers, all of that. What the developers do put out is definitely pretty fantastic, and I could really see SK taking off if whoever makes the decision decided to afford more resources to Spiral Knights, especially now that we've basically escaped the energy system.

With all these awesome suggestions in this part of the forum you'd expect them to do some patches to try and implement an idea or two (you know, something that isn't already in the game). Especially for the last huge update the GU. But what did we really get from the GU that's new?

Switched up catalyzer mechanics that makes it even less effective in parties and a Magnus change that pulled the gun up to the top of the OP charts. Everything else is same mechanics with different damage or status, or just some reworked speed and damage. The GU armors are nice but were a bit excessive (and pointless since everyone still uses BK and Chaos regardless). I had really hoped for some new guns that would bring out new playstyles, not..... shadow blitzing jellies, Shadow pulsaring gremlins, Antigua for fiends, etc......

I think the main issue with coming up with new gameplay content is legacy compatibility. There is a system built in place that isn't well adapted for change. For instance, the equipment buffs cap at 6 levels (some, at 4). New maps still must be made with the same tiling and flow structure. New sprites must be based off the similar base models. There's not much variety to work with.
AI should be straightforward to code, but it's very time consuming to test and refine.

To create really expansive stuff, they will need to overhaul the entire system under the hood. Otherwise, we're stuck with reskins and minor tweaks to what we have seen already.
