Now you know where all their manpower went.
Bye bye future content for this game.

My response till I hear from OOO that they won't ditch this like they did DW: Worlds in Time: http://i.imgur.com/nhfe7xF.jpg
Is it just me, or does that gameplay look completely and utterly boring?
15 minutes of gameplay footage. well, not bad as a trailer.
that being said, only the art style was translated. the music is always the same, thee is no trace of SK game mechanics whatsoever, and mist energy is back.
if this was a SEGA idea: great job, maybe you'll get some other players to be interested in spiral knights and the other game you own that is apparently what rise of knights is based off, but very few SK players will actually play that thing, let alone spend money on it.
if this was a OOO idea: you utterly wasted your time and ours. congratulations.
If I hadn't already (several months ago), this would be the point where I'd convert all my nonessentials into Steam cash and abandon hope.
I recall posts about a Mobile Knights game (or console/single player), but this is certainly not what was expected. How will this impact Spiral Knights proper? Does this impact SK in any way other than having a mobile presence?
Awaiting more news eagerly.
From what I've gathered so far, the game has yet to be released on Android. It's available on iOS but two reviews state that it has stability issues.
I'm going ahead and downloading it now. I'm certain this iPhone I have is compatible with it and will find out in about 15 minutes.
The Game is 404.1MB.
EDIT1: Interestingly enough, the app is called "Rise of Knights 0.7" so I assume it's not even the final build.
EDIT2: While downloading it I decided to take a peek into the files. It seems that the game was created in Unity.
I certainly hope that many of the items introduced in the game will be transferred over to SK.
That Electric Drakon is going to be something everyone wants
So far looking around from what I've played:
The Premium currency is called Gems. You start out with 200 of them from the start and you can recruit knights of variable star levels:
1★ - 3★ can be recruited for one "Soul" which is a rare material? No idea.
3★ - 5★ can be recruited for 235 Gems.
The premium currency goes as follows:
375 Gems - $5.79
785 Gems - $11.99
1650 Gems - $22.99
4350 Gems - $57.99
9000 Gems - $119.99
There's a merchant (two gremlins wearing masks) in this game that have a shop that sells you weapons and recruits (SLAVES). It resets every 3 hours or instantly for 30 Gems. You can also purchase extra Merchant Slots for Crowns. (Current price is 2000Crowns for one slot)
Daily Logins too as the game crashed for me by trying arena. There's a maximum of 24 Daily Bonuses and 12 Day bonus is a free drakon. Also, knight fusion!
Weapons no longer have a damage type (IE: Piercing/Elemental/Shadow) but instead deal their respective elemental damage (IE: Fire/Freeze/Shock/Stun/Poison/Curse) and critical hits exist.
I'll have more info later I guess.
Not seeing this on the play store for android yet (as Krakob mentioned) but I'll give it a go later when I can borrow someone's iPhone/Pad, or if it does show up on the play store. So far it sounds, looks and smells very............. well, I don't want to sugar coat it or get banned so I'll just leave it at that.
Really hope the main game gets more love though.. it could use it a lot more than the world could use another phone game with F2P trappings, that's for sure.
Interestingly enough the world map includes both old and things that haven't been released but promised before:
Area one is the Sky Isles.
Area two is a "watery" area. H20 promises?
Area three is what seems to be a frozen tundra.
Area four is a desert.
Area five is a mountain top. Perhaps reference to those knights before?
Area six is the Shroud Area.
Also, I hate this game because Crowns are refereed to as "Coins"
I honestly have no idea how I feel about this. Here are some stray thoughts I'm having; some of them contradict each other a bit, but these are just initial, mostly mixed feelings on my part:
The game looks fine enough I suppose, for a mobile app anyway.
They wasted all the manpower on a mobile game. Why.
I'm going to assume that this was Sega's work and not OOO's, since there is no sign of the source game's lore at all in this, and I would think that OOO cares more about it than to just not reference it at all in the spin-off game. Plus, with the Sonic the Hedgehog games of the last seven years or so, Sega has shown that they do not care whatsoever about the lore in THEIR games, so it makes sense.
Okay, so maybe this isn't what WE all wanted. But let's face it, Spiral Knights has been slowly declining in players and more importantly, profitability, since 2013. Especially with the Forge and Alchemy Orb update, when Elevator fees were removed - not because people didn't like that update, but because that made it much, MUCH easier to play through the whole game without spending a dime, and made free play a more VIABLE option than spending real money since buying Fire Crystals and Orbs from the Supply Depot is WAY TOO EXPENSIVE. Yes, there were problems with the old system, but at least then OOO was raking in the dough, and at least then they were putting out noteworthy new content. So, maybe this could be something that saves SK, but then again:
If this becomes a success, and/or draws in new players, we could finally see constant new content in SK. If it fails, then SK will be taken closer to Death's door, because Sega/OOO wasted all that manpower and money on a flop. (hey it's Sonic Boom all over again)
The linked review speculates that this is an attempt to bring the Spiral Knights fan base into a new game. That delights me, as it suggests that Spiral Knights has a large-enough fan base to attract Sega's attention. Note well that this is something that Sega knows better than you or I do.
Alternatively, the game could serve as a teaser, to get more players interested in Spiral Knights. That would be great, but I doubt it, because of the play style.
Or maybe they're just raiding Spiral Knights art for a new game. But why did they have to change the art from the original Japanese version? Could western audiences not handle it?
So all the manpower and time goes there? oh well i guess then SK it just the money farm for OOO and SEGA now...
Hi, all!
It looks like you’ve discovered Rise of Knights. Right now, this very early version of the game is only available in a few regions.
Rise of Knights and Spiral Knights are set during different time periods in the same universe, and they are distinct from each other in terms of gameplay mechanics. We’re happy to be bringing this world to a new platform, and we hope people will enjoy both games once Rise of Knights officially launches. For those who prefer the PC experience to mobile, SK will be right here as always. :)
We’ll let you know more when we can. RoK will have its own social media channels and so on, so as not to clutter up SK's.
So, i tried downloading it, but is says i cant, cause i have to be in canada to download it...in in the USA. how do i dont it without making a brand new acc?
Since you guys finally release this, will the team be back to business and begin working on bug fixes, and release new content, and not just reskins promos? I prefer a few bug fixes right now. in the mean time once RoK is fully release 100%. I dont SK to fall apart. Is there anynews you can say right now, like is new stuff or patch stuff are coming in a few months?
This is why we haven't got any content updates? All your coders have been working on this...? Hopefully its good, ready to download it now.
.
@Arbitergomez: Per above, I'll let you know more when I can!
first, i should apologize for being so rude and profane earlier. it would seem that calling the game in question "a big pile of %^!@" was in poor taste and caused a furrowed brow of some individuals. i must insist that this was not my intention and that i meant to rustle no one person's jimmies, but rather partake in the wonderful discussion of how we seem to be... how do i put this kindly - not-so-gently nibbling on a piece of fluffy fabric, as it were - when it comes to having any progress being made on a game that i do believe that we, still as a community, enjoy playing. what i did here was what most would consider to be a "tasteful form of censorship", which would be altering the profane segment in such a way that removes it from the post in question while leaving the main point of the post intact if it can be done.
with that being said, i will now continue to demonstrate this tasteful criticism of the game in question in a way that will express my opinion without warranting a complete removal
relevant, tasteful, and still highlights that you have to be full of it (i won't say what it is, but you can probably guess off of context clues) to think that people aren't going to bring this point up themselves - SK getting shafted in terms of content so you can appeal to a mobile market that's already oversaturated with plants vs zombies clones is in its very essence, a stupid decision
let me know if i missed anything or if this was "profane" enough to merit being deleted again so it can be addressed appropriately
I am just quoting this from mister Greywell in the demo, who is, in no way shape or form, a spiritual successor of Ozlo (jk, he totally is):
In the beginning our world existed in serenity; above the Celestials, givers of light and life, below us the void, with its promise of peace through oblivion.
So, does this and Dreams and night confirms the existence of Lord Inceptron? . My fan made God of cradle who was responsible for the separation of two forms of energy? I am beginning to think OOO and SEGA took a page off my fan fictions, that or this is what Nick had in mind at the start.
ps. with RoK, I can finally assemble my crew , this is going to be fun.
Thank you for averting my fear of game collapse.... I have been in too many game shipwrecks to want to swim the seas of the online gamestore again......
My question is will SKpc gain some items (like that shock Drakon) that are in the SKios?
http://gyazo.com/20d32861b000dd9b7dc758e2e9c8024f
Giant glop drop boss? (Basically T3 glop drop...)

Giant dust bunny boss? (Basically T3 dust bunny...)

ELECTRIC DRAKON!
Also several new maps?
Are any of these going to be added in SK sometime? Also, is it possible to make this available for players who are on PC?
It's possible through an Android Emulator whenever it comes out by downloading the .apk and launching it.
From my experience the game is really buggy as heck, I haven't been able to clear the first world as every time I launch 1 - 3 - 3 the game crashes. I've relaunched it about 17 times in a row with no avail.
Some things to note from what I was able to gather until I attempt again:
Statuses don't exist from my understanding. There's also a new element in this game: Light. Some of the items have different prefixes but use some of the older equipment. I got a Light Alchemer but it was actually just a Prismatech Alchemer.
Most knights are not able to equip weaponry at will and instead require some unique ability to wield said weaponry: I have a Zapper but none of my recruits are able to wield it. I have no idea how this works.
All recruits so far are all "Fallen" Knights and you revive them. Each knight has a weaponry type and an elemental type. The weaponry type is equivalent to a role style:
Tank - Cannot attack but has a large HP pool. Main Tool: Shield.
Bomber - Does small AoE damage. Main Tool: Bomb.
Gunner - Small attacks but ranged only in the lane. Main tool: Gun.
Sword - Moderate damage but can only focus one target. Main tool: Sword.
Sprite - Small ranged damage. I haven't been able to try this out too much so can't say too much about it. Main tool: Sprite.
There are daily "events" that require you to run dungeons with three mode settings: Easy, Normal, and Elite. Each increment of difficulty causes energy to increase: Easy (3) / Normal (5) / Elite (7). You can either get Battle Drakes (From my understanding, this is something completely new.), "COINNNNNNNS," or I believe Gems.
Weapons have abilities. I don't know how to unlock them but currently the one I've seen was:
*"Increases Light Knight Damage by 15%" or something along the lines of that.
@Eurydice: Is there any way to discuss things about the game prior to its global release? There's quite a few things that seem like it could be tested on along with a couple of interesting things.
Like I said before, a 'Spiritual' successor, not 'physical'. #plzfinishmysentence
Oh my gosh the lore! THE LORE! Can we accept this as canon? Original appearances of Kats, revealed Knight faces, mastery over Owlite magicks, Cradle after it's been destroyed (as well as the fact that we're calling it "home"), the Celestials as a confirmed species (indicating the origin for the Angelic line of armors), although I'm unsure if the soul recruitment feature is just a simplified system for the sake of a mobile game, or if it's actually how Knights come about.
Thank you 3rings. I will make sure the game is known to the public. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2zFCn1L65lI
This game looks actually pretty neato.
Can't play it myself as I don't have an iOS device, but I love Plants VS Zombies so this would be an interesting game to play.
Granted, I'd prefer to play it on my desktop or something, but where there's a will there's a way.
Judging it as its own game, looks like it has its own kinks to it, but it's a rather common setup. From what others said with mist energy returning, it might be nicer to have it be more when units go down, they're unusable for 15 minutes or so, but you can purchase or find sparks of life to revive them in combat or on the menu (2 sparks in combat, 1 out of combat).
I'd have to play it to really say much more about it. Here's to hoping we can get a little bit of transparency on this project at the very least, haha. I'd love to put the endless amounts of suggestions that boil around in this head over to the mobile app as well.
Also... Is that a sloom I see on some of the promo art?
Three Rings pls.
EDIT: Also to add onto this, perhaps the reason we've been getting so many costume promos for a while now is because they're recycling content from the Rise of Knights area to let us play with in-game? I mean, they seem to just throw all colorschemes at all armor-types in that game anyways...
I don't know what I'll be more stuck to now, I'm torn between my phone and laptop when the game comes out, Maybe if I rip myself in half and play with my leg and arm for either game...
When you say-
"For those who prefer the PC experience to mobile, SK will be right here as always. "
Do you mean-
For those who prefer the PC experience to mobile, SK will still be available but left relatively devoid of new content on the metaphorical back burner.
Or is it more of a-
For those who prefer the PC experience to mobile, SK will still be developed, more than ever now that the mobile game has been released.
EDIT: Oh. Looks like Eury already gave an answer.
To be truthful I would only speed play to see if there any links or connections to the main story of sk and the art also looks nice apart from that there is nothing truly unique which makes me want to actually try this game out unless you actually like those type of games fighting systems...
Then again cant judge the game until I actually play it.( you better make a good impact on players with the final release o.o don't waist this good chance to make sk franchise stand out).
Since you said its on an early development do you plan on improving the fighting animations and mechanics ? Also when do you guys think will finish the game by ?
I very agree with Dreamless-Reaper's comment, I like the art style and I would look for some connections to main SK story, but gameplay is just sicky.
I wouldn't like to spend hours playing dis. Now I have bad feelings about Spiral Knights future, oh.
Anything said about an android version for Europe?
"Android" is one of the tags on the link that Hexzyle posted.
Also- " It seems that SEGA has decided to bring back the franchise as a mobile game"
Reminds me of all those "SK dead" threads.
i have an iphone i cant find it in appstore the hell is this
I hope this means theres content in the works for new dlc or story arcs or something for Spiral Knights...
Wasn't me, although I can understand your confusion as Fastlex, Traevelliath, Theirillusion and I all have the same profile picture. (although I'm flattered that according to you, the Gun Puppy avatar and I are iconically connected :D I see you, Bopp, Zeddy and Psychodestroyer iconically connected to the associated avatars too :P)
Reminds me of all those "SK dead" threads.
Reminds me of all those "SK on 3DS" threads.
An option to transfer our existing Knights over would be cool. Give us who transferred our players a special cosmetic or something.
In the preview pictures on the app store I found a SLOOM!
Does this mean slooms are coming back soon?
Am I the only one who got excited to see the E-class battle sprites in the video?
The heck with shocky Drakon--I want one of THOSE!!

I'm going to be personally honest and direct with the development team as well as the players on this one. I do see a fair deal of the effort put into how it's presented and how it expands from Spiral Knights and I seriously hope that it becomes a good game for all parties involved.
But this is treading on thin ice. Ice thinner than Spiral Knights' recent and current course. I'm spotting many, many ways Rise of Knights can screw up and no-sell the work poured into it, then look back and recall how Spiral Knights has been needing it the most on various occasions. This worries the hell out of me because, while RoK presents a great deal of valuable and insightful continuity parallels to SK, its execution risks dividing the playerbase AND the active audience much more than it has ever been divided in the past. This is a very dire and callous risk. I seriously hope and wish wholeheartedly that the team behind its development knows full well how to work around it and deliver a promising experience, because at this point a project this secretive must have been offered very little feedback support to go through with it as it appears.
I personally don't do with mobile gaming. Not one bit. Convincing me to do it for this game would bear an incredibly good outlook for things to come, but until then I'll keep asking why you even bothered.
...and for Vog's sake, why such an ambiguously plain title? I mean it. This must be renamed to "Rise of Spiral Knights". What do you mean, you'll look into it? What the hell do you mean, you don't care? This isn't a suggestion, I'm not going to ask for opinions here. This is an order. Rise of Spiral Knights. No more, no less.
Look, there's no way I'll just buy into you guys putting up with having build a name for four years only to end up trivializing it when it has to count. The bulk of the characters showcased so far, and I dare call the remaining bunch to come, is clearly drawn from the Spiral Order of the original game, no way it could just quietly drop its meaning in the transition. This may be a spin-off title, but damnit that legacy heritage is strictly important and you would better use it thorough the whole thing.
Nobody's got time to compete with other countless mobile titles simply because it's got to do with "knights". We ain't anyone's typical, medieval-clad, plagued-by-landfilling-peasant-feces warriors with codes of honor for some dramatic royalty or fantasy kingdom, we're Spiral Knights. We've gone from hell to more hell and then back to some more through the confines of space to preserve and uphold that title and so did you. You know Spiral Knights has a lot more to offer than that, and I don't mean all that pretentious flow of perpetual collectibles.
I actually playing it, but I keep getting crashes :|
For those want to download the game on app store, change your store country to Canada :)
Since the developers actually read on of these threads, how about we focus on THIS game which is ridiculously unbalanced and our suggestions always fall on deaf ears? ORRRRR, are we not buying enough costumes that fail as an actual update?
Quick fork over da monies!!!!
Eurydice is a forum admin/game admin, she doesn't have the final say on anything that is related to game development, she is simply the lips of the OOO that talks to us.
Ya... still better then nothing i guess? Maybe that came off as too harsh. Retequizzle already made the point that I wanted to - just throwing fuel on the fir e of frustration.
-disable chat box option, or HUD in general
-disable AT, or make a custom lobby
-acheron damage a bit lower
-armor defenses more meaningful rather then having to go to extremes to make them note worthy
-more maps (NOT SNOW MAPS)
I dunno, just spitballin...
..Anything besides costumes?
...More often then once every two years?
Edit: suggestions?
No.... why!, what will this do to all the lore in which we have accumulated. Why is not as vibrant as times long past! will this shatter all in which i have constructed?, will this bring an end to what we all know and love!?!?. I do not wish to see such a bland construct to block out what was and still a vibrant beauty, cradle! the happenings in which occured during the events of the crash of the skylark, will they mean nothing anymore?!?
For those who, like me, had no idea what this guy was talking about
