Not what I was expecting.
This is pretty big for Three Rings, yup - Steam lets them reach a bigger audience, and hopefully get an expanded playerbase as a result. I just hope the pre-Steam players won't get all elitist and snobby about the influx of newbies. Seriously, guys, don't do it.
Also, I'm hoping there'll be a way to link existing Spiral Knights accounts to Steam accounts, as I'd really prefer not to have to build up a new account from scratch. I want to be able to show off my achievements. :B

I've already had SK on Steam for...the longest time, really. (Thanks to my friend who knows his bit of programming.) But this is great, I just wish it was out sooner. =w=

Whilst this is a nice development, I'd only really be thrilled about it personally if I could link my existing account to my Steam account. It's not like the Steam version is any more convenient than the client I already use.
That said, more players is always a good thing.

You cannot link Steam and SK accounts. If you want special Steam deals, you have to start over completely. If you are a preview event fellow or have any amazing UVs, prepare to lose out.
Achievements also won't unlock on Steam if you've already earned them in game. You're going to have to spend a lot more energy if you want them on there. Just as Three Rings designed it.

That shan't be right...
There should be a way to let those who have steam but don't want to start anew be able to grab the goods. There is no justice in forcing us to start over and spend money and time on a completely new character when we already have three knights to take care of. I for one want to grab these goodies but I am not willing to give up my main knight that I have been working so hard on. If I want the mist tanks and the mask, I want it on Shidara and not on my steam account that holds nothing but an empty slot. This is poor planning on Three Rings' part and they should start working on a solution to include everyone instead of forcing us to give up our knights for a limited time event.
So yes, please work on sorting this out, admins. I, and many others, will not be satisfied with a "Sorry, not possible."

To all of you who are just joining us from Steam and are looking into these forums, please just ignore Magnus and GodofSkype, they just want to turn the game into Recettear Online/Hoard. (not that i'm saying that its a bad thing, but i dont fancy an 'endgame' where all you do is hoard Crystal Energy and Crowns for no use and only bothering to bat an eyelid towards any player who has more Crystal Energy than Brain Matter.)
Instead, just jump in and give the game a go, you wont be dissapointed that's for certain!

This is not true. My friend Ethyl had the Craft-50-Items achievement upon login once the achievement patch was added. (Ragecrafting has its occasional perks, I suppose.)

Hmmmmmm...
I know there may be some technical difficulties with integrating steam and SK accounts, but it most likely IS possible if the programmers work on it. Sony managed to merge PSN and Steam accounts together, and I'm sure Valve wouldn't mind helping OOO out a little with that. And even if I have to redoo stuff to get steam achievements, I'm fine with that. Patience is key in a game like SK, and I've got plenty for this game, although having to completely start over again is a little stupid in my eyes.
