Chapter 8
As the quad walked in, they explored their new surroundings. The sun was high in the sky, the sunlight reflecting of the sparkling water from the fountain. Revan’s mouth hung slightly open as he walked through the town square. From the inside, it looked even more beautiful, watching the cute birds, and the dazzling fountain up close. Revan came up close to one of the birds. It was a shade of dark blue, and it’s wings twirled around in the air. It levitated slightly above the ground, diving in and out of the fountain’s water. As Revan came closer, it flew away.
“Its all right. I won’t hurt you,” Revan said. He came closer, and the bird shied away. He sat down at the edge of the fountain, waiting patiently. The rest of the group stood nearby, shifting uncomfortably. Nexon walked forward, looking at the bird he was trying to get to at the same time. “Umm, Revan, the rest of us would like to explore the rest of the place if you don’t mind, but if you want us to stay…” Revan interrupted him. “It’s okay. You guys can go wherever you want. In fact, why don we split up, and then we can meet here for later?” Revan suggested. The rest of the group murmured in agreement, and the group broke up.
They were about to leave, when Rangerwill said something. “Oh yeah! Revan! What are you gonna do with Chomp?” The wolver pranced around Revan’s legs, chasing the snipes that fluttered too close. “Hmm… Chomp, sit!” The wolver ignored him, and continued chasing the birds. This guys gonna be harder to teach than I thought, Revan thought. He then saw a piece of rope lying on the ground. It was roughly 6 yards, tangled up in a heap. He walked over to it, and unraveled it. He then made a leash for Chomp, who, with great resistance, tried to run away. But the other 3 also helped, and minutes later, Chomp was tied to a post, behind some bushes.
Revan sighed. “Well, with that done with, see you guys later.” The others then went to their different designations. Rangerwill headed for a crowd at the front of the town square, with a big building up front, with what looked like the market, and stocks. Alamar headed toward a building with a sign that said, “Advanced Training Hall”, that was at the left of the fountain. Nexon walked along with Alamar, but when they got to the building, he kept going into another part of Haven. Revan stayed where he was.
He turned back to the bird, which was now sitting close to him. He gestured to it, but it shrank away. Then he came up with an idea. He threw a piece of snack bar towards it, which bounced onto the edge of the fountain. The snipe flew quickly away, but after a few moments, it came back. It inched towards it, slowly at first, but then faster. Finally, he snatched it, and fluttered away to the other side of the fountain. There, it nibbled on it, sharing it with a few others.
After finishing it quickly, it flew around, aimlessly. Revan threw another piece on the ground. This time, more confident, the bird ate it up, this time not sharing with the others. This went on, until he managed to lead the snipe to his hand. It plopped onto his hand. Up close, he could now study it more carefully. It had a short and stout beak, but it was also very sharp. It chirped loudly, and its feathers were also very soft. It was rather plump, and heavy. He saw Chomp from behind the bushes. He was licking his mouth, and if wolvers could grin, he certainly did. It seemed to be deciding whether it would be a good enough lunch. Revan decided to move farther away.
“It’s called a snipe,” a deep voice said behind him. Revan turned around, to see that another one of those strangers. Like Hailoh, he seemed like a giant, towering over him. He could have filled the space of 4 knights, easily. Revan wondered if they were the natives of the planet. He looked at the snipe in Revan’s hand, and then Revan. There seemed to be… what was it? Amusement in his face? But of course, you could never really tell. All the strangers were covered in massive cloaks and scarves, so that you could never see any flesh or skin. He also wore a giant hat, which would have swallowed Revan up if he had worn it. But on the stranger, it seemed just right. On the hat, there were many other snipes perched on top.
Revan was surprised by the stranger. “Who are you?” Revan asked. The stranger laughed. It was a deep, booming sound, that set his ears ringing. “My name is Warnel. I’m an expert on snipes. I have dedicated my life to learning about them.” Warnel indicated the town square. Hundreds of snipes were flying around. “As you can see, after we built this village as a Haven for us Strangers, the snipes have kind of, well, just appeared. No one knows why. The records our ancestors had were burned in the Great Fire. It was disastrous, and we lost all knowledge we had from our ancestors. I have dedicated my life to bring that all back. Our ancestors had also recorded information about snipes, but we lost all that in the Great Fire, too. Well, look at that. This snipe here seems to like you. “ He indicated the snipe resting in his palm.
Revan shrugged. “How do you get the snipes to do that?” He pointed at his hat. “These snipes are my own. I have a lot more at home, but most of them like to stay at my house. A few like to come out with me to do my research. They help a great deal.” He patted a snipe on his head, and it chirped contently. “This one here is called Ashes.” He took the snipe into his hand so that Revan could see. It was a grayish-blue, with speckles of brown and black all over. It chirped loudly again. Revan petted it. Its feathers were soft, like the one in his palm. “How do they help you with your work?” he asked. Warnel smiled. “They fetch things for me, and they also help me with my research. I study snipes, so…” He let the sentence carry on as if it were obvious.
Revan thought about what Warnel said earlier. “What’s the Great Fire?” Warnel shrugged. It was obvious he was uncomfortable about the subject. “Long ago, when we had started building this place, a worker was smoking some Snipe-pipe. Their droppings make a good source for smoking. Anyway, the smoke, for some reason no one knows, it caught a piece of paper on fire. Perhaps he just smoked a lot. It blew away in the wind, and flew into an open window into the Archives. Now, well, the Archives are just a pile of ashes. They managed to save a few records, but most were destroyed.”
Revan thought about that. Then he saw Ashes again. It was back on his head now, sleeping soundly. “Can I keep this one?” He showed the snipe in his palm, which was now asleep. Warnel took this as a surprise. No one usually wanted one. Sure, they were cute, but they were hard to take care of. Warnel, with his extensive knowledge of snipes, knew how to take care of them, but it was still hard. He tossed the idea back and forth in his head. “Well…” he mused. “I guess you could… they are free creatures. They only decide to stay here, because of the plentiful food. Also, they are hard to take care of. They will only eat a certain type of plant, and it needs to be fed twice a day. They also need to be cleaned once a week, to be inspected for lice, or worse.”
Revan took none of it in. He was too excited about the prospect of keeping it. He already had a name for it. “So I can?” he asked once more. Warnel shrugged again. “Ultimately, it’s the snipe’s decision, but it looks like it likes you, so…” Revan yelled in glee, waking the snipe up. It chirped wildly, but seeing that nothing was wrong, went back to sleep. “Thank you, thank you, thank you!” Revan danced around in joy. His very own snipe! Warnel smiled. “I can give you books on how to take care of it and all that…” But by now, Revan had already gone to free Chomp, and find his friends. Wow, he thought, my very own snipe! I think I’ll call it Bluey, he thought as he unleashed Chomp. Yeah, Bluey is good… after all it is blue, he thought. As he was heading toward the big building at the front to tell Rangerwill of his news, one thing coursed through his mind: This is going to be a good day.
P.S. Dyrus, srry, but i couldnt find a good place for you in this chpter. i'll put u in the next though.

Chapter 9
Nexon walked out of the bazaar, swearing. He made a mental note to himself-never bargain with a Stranger. He had recently just tried that, and it hadn’t ended well. Was it Nexon’s fault that the Strangers’ prices were total rip-offs? Was it his fault that they were always looking for a chance to cheat him, too? He marched into the Town Square, still angry, looking for his comrades. He saw Revan and Will over by a building at the front of the Town Square, and headed over.
As he neared them, he could tell that Revan was talking excitedly to Will, and that he was carrying a snipe on his head, pointing to it. Will seemed to be distracted, and didn’t seem to really notice what Revan was talking about. He kept checking with the Strangers in the building, asking questions, and generally ignoring Revan, although Revan didn’t seem to notice. When Nexon came up to them, Revan turned to him.
“Hi Nexon! Guess what I got?” He plopped the snipe onto his palm, startling it. “Look, Warnel let me keep the snipe! I call it Bluey. Warnel said he can give me some books on how to take care of it…” Revan continued to blabber, while Nexon crouched to pet Chomp, who was chewing Revan’s Vog Cub coat.
“Yeah, yeah, that’s great…” Nexon waved a hand at Revan dismissively, and went over to Will. “’Sup? Find anything interesting?” he asked him. Will ignored him for a moment, looking through his money pouch. He looked up. “Hmmm? Oh, yeah, this building here is called the Auction House, knights can vendor stuff here, with starting bids, and buyout prices, and other knights can buy them, the Strangers make a bit of money from this and...”
Will continued to talk, while Nexon half listened to him, half observed the other knights crowding around them. The hustle-and-bustle of the Town Square was somewhat confusing, knights pushing each other back and forth, shouting out prices to sell their wares, or fighting each other to get to the best piece of equipment at the cheapest price. Each knight was also very unique. Nexon saw a gunslinger, clad in long pieces of cloth, wearing a big hat with a star on it. He saw a relatively new knight, still in proto gear, asking around for crowns. He saw a group of Skolver knights, joking around, arguing who had the better gear even though they were all virtually clones. A knight wearing dozens of accessories on some 5* gear was hosting an auction for a Glacius with triple UV’s, for 1 million crowns, while knights crowded around him. In other words, it was total chaos.
A yell from somewhere over to the right piqued his interest. A knight was running away from another, who was cussing, and brandishing his sword above his head at the same time. ‘Damn you! Come back here, bastard!” Nexon had seen this before. In fact, it had been very common practice around Spirulus Prime. Scamming. You trick someone stupid enough to buy your wares for expensive prices, run away home, and hope that your customer didn’t realize that the sword you sold him was made out of cheap plastic disguised with paint, and other things, to look like strong steel, until the next day. It wasn’t surprising that old habits die hard. Nexon had even been scammed himself a few times, when he was younger.
The other knight dashed around the corner, pushing and shoving others out of the way. Other knights gave cries of protest, but otherwise stayed to themselves. The knight had almost made it to the transporter, a device that transports you to other Havens identical to the one they were in. If they hadn’t had dozens of other Havens, it would never fit the entire population. Right when the knight was about to transport to another Haven, a hand grabbed his shoulder. He turned around, and saw Nexon’s face inches away from his, staring down at him. Crying out, he tripped over his own Dusker Coat, and fell onto the ground. Nexon grabbed him, and heaved up, so that they were face to face. The knight in the Dusker Coat was barely touching the ground.
“I’m in a rather nasty mood today, so I’ll make this nice and straight. Give me that money pouch you stole from that knight, or I will turn you into the authorities.” The other knight looked nervous, but looked bravely at Nexon, and smirked, “You and what army?”
Nexon growled, “I’m my own army.” He brought out his newly crafted Leviathan Blade, and brandished at him. “Unless you’d like to see for yourself?” The other knight’s confident smile vanished. He shifted nervously in Nexon’s grasp, trying to get away, but Nexon’s grip was like iron. By now, they had attracted quite a crowd. Nexon, who was starting to get a bit nervous himself, not wanting to attract any more attention, ripped the money pouch off of the knight’s belt, and tucked it away. He threw the knight onto the ground, who grunted. “Next time, better watch out what you do,” Nexon snarled. The other knight scrambled away, leaving an astounded crowd.
Nexon glared at everyone else. That alone seemed to send the message itself that he didn’t want anyone here. The crowd soon evaporated, leaving the original knight, gaping at Nexon. Nexon tossed him his money pouch, and muttered, “Next time, think before you buy.” Nexon trudged away, back to where Will and Revan was. Apparently, they hadn’t noticed what had happened.
“So, yeah, I was thinking about buying this recipe for my Divine Avenger, it’s a bit more than what the Stranger’s prices, but I guess that’s okay, what do you think? Nexon?” Will looked up expectantly from his calculations. “Hmm? Oh, yeah, sure, whatever…” Will shrugged, and went back to the Strangers. Nexon suddenly felt guilty. He hadn’t really been paying attention to Will. He hoped he hadn’t just suggested to Will that he should buy something overpriced. He glanced at Will, but he was already giving the crowns to the Strangers, for safekeeping, to be mailed to the knight who had auctioned the item, in exchange for the item the knight had put up. Nexon shrugged, and turned to Revan. He was sitting at the foot of the fountain, happily watching Bluey fly around, while Chomp rested its head peacefully on his lap.
Nexon gazed around the Town Square, frowning. His first, few days in this strange, new world had not exactly been what he had expected.
Chapter 10
A snipe sat peacefully on a bench, dozing into a light trance-like state, when it suddenly chirped loudly, and took off, feathers flying. Moments later, two troika-line swords embedded themselves into the bench, quivering, where the snipe had been moments ago. A knight, who had been sitting on the bench, sat staring at the two swords, eyes wide. A deep, crunching sound came from the bench, and the side the knight was sitting on gave away, and it crumbled onto the ground, the knight falling onto his rear end. The two swords swayed on the other remaining side of the bench standing, the weight of them causing part of the bench to wrench away from the remains of it. The swords clanged on the ground, causing a dull, gonging sound.
A lone knight came trudging over to the swords, picking them up with apparent ease. He mumbled a few words of apology to the knight who had been sitting on the bench, who was now gazing with fearful eyes at him. Alamar swung the swords onto his back, and walked slowly out of the Advanced Training room, by now, with all the eyes in the room looking at him. He walked up the stairs leading to the outside, and shielded his eyes from the sun while they adjusted.
Alamar tromped down the stairs leading to the Town Square, searching for his companions. He spotted the three of them gathered at the fountain, and walked toward them. As he got closer, the other three noticed him, and waved him over. They had been sitting down on the stairs of the fountain, enjoying a snack and chatting.
“’Ello,” Will greeted him. He was chewing an energy bar, which he had almost entirely eaten. “Missed the party, you did.” Nexon snorted. “Not much of a party, more like eating some cheap food with a couple friends. A stream of smoke came from Revan’s direction, followed by a violent fit of coughing. Nexon frowned at Revan, who was now wheezing, his face red. “Oh, yeah. Revan’s become a Snipe Pipe addict.” Will burst out in laughter, and Nexon joined him. Alamar allowed himself a slight smile, which vanished just as suddenly as it had appeared.
Revan’s fit of coughing soon dispersed, as did Nexon’s and Will’s laughing round. Revan steadied himself, and gave Alamar a grin. “Heya. Just trying some of this new stuff the Strangers showed me. Seems to work best with fresh droppings.” He indicated his pet snipe, Bluey. It was resting on top of Chomp’s head, resting peacefully. Chomp himself was in a light doze, and knights were gathered around them petting and stroking them. “They seem to be quite the star, the two of them. They’ve also promised to not fight anymore.” Revan winked at Alamar.
Nexon and Will smirked simultaneously. “Yeah, right,” Will said, holding his mouth to prevent it from bursting open with laughter. Nexon himself had taken a sudden interest in his boots, shoulders heaving with a silent laughter. Revan looked at them innocently. “What? It’s true.”
Alamar sat down at the foot of the fountain, and took a bar from his own sack. “Hey guys, guess what I found out?” He opened his wrapper slowly, and took a bite, savoring the tangy taste that seemed tingle on his tongue. He looked at the wrapper. Tangy Tanga. He Thought so. The other three looked at him curiously. “What?” Revan asked. Alamar paused, and then, quick as lightning, whipped out his twin Troika-line swords, and held them at a threatening angle that somehow managed to hold all three of them at an uncomfortable stance. “Knights scare easily,” Alamar grinned.
Nexon looked down at the blades, cross-eyed. Revan looked at him in shock. Will make a choking sound, and chuckled nervously. “Umm, heh, that’s kinda nice to-,” the blades tightened around his neck, and Will stopped talking, struggling to keep his neck above the two blades, and trying not to breath at the same time, so as not to expand his neck and cut himself.
Alamar kept the swords there for a minute or so, enjoying the looks the other three gave him. Suddenly, his arms dropped, and he put the two swords back in their twin back sheaths, criss-crossing. Nexon, Will, and Revan all dropped to the ground, making retching sounds, panting. After a few more minutes of watching his friends struggle to breath, Alamar smirked, and said, “Especially around big boys.” Will was the first to recover, and glared at Alamar. Alamar grinned at him, a rare luxury he allowed himself every so often. Nexon and Revan soon joined him, and Alamar’s grin vanished, replaced by an uneasy smile. It was one thing to hold your gaze against one angry knight, but another to hold it against three.
Alamar decided to return the glare, doing his best to counter the other three. The four of them looked intently at each other for a few minutes, until, after a few moments, Will let out a snort. Nexon’s face had turned almost purple, from glaring at Alamar, eyes popping out. Revan, in turn, looked at him, and let out a giggle. Suddenly, Revan and Will burst out laughing, rolling over, and patting each other’s backs. Nexon was still focused on Alamar, who was starting to find it a bit disturbing, so he turned his back on him so he wouldn’t have to look at the purple face with the popping eyes.
Chomp was suddenly up and about, wakened by the sudden laughter, and was barking and jumping and leaping, surprising the knights around him. Yelping, they retreated to the far corners of the fountain to see what would happen. Bluey chirped loudly, and flew high into the air, settling back down with a few other snipes. This only seemed to enforce the laughter, and the Town Square was soon ringing with Will’s and Revan’s laughter.
Revan was laughing so hard that he was making choking sounds, and was soon struggling to breath, his own face purple, but with his mouth wide open laughing silently, so that he looked like a demented monster. Tears were streaming down Will’s face, and he, too, was choking. Alamar turned back to Nexon, who was now scowling at the other two. “What is it?” he snapped.
Revan tried to reply, but only succeeded with snorts and giggles. Will managed to make out a sentence, between the insane laughter. “It…it’s…just that…” Will suddenly let out a belch, which silenced all of them. For a few moments, they just looked at Will, who had only just realized what he had done, and had froze there, mouth wide open. They all came out in laughter this time, including Alamar and Nexon. Revan was laughing the hardest, but suddenly froze, ran to the fountain, and puked, all the while laughing. Revan stayed facing the water, spluttering white spittle everywhere, shoulders heaving up and down, giggling madly. He plunged his face into the water, and back out, laughing with new vigor. A few knights nearby wrinkled their noses with disgust, or murmured something to each other. If someone had just met him, he could have thought he belonged in an insane asylum.
The other three soon calmed down, and Nexon scowled once again at Will. “What was that about, anyway?” Will allowed a few more giggles and snorts, before answering. “You should’a seen your face… it’s too bad I didn’t have my camera…” Will started laughing again, but this time Alamar slapped him in the head, which had both silenced Will, and earned Alamar a glare. Nexon was huffing his chest out, muttering something about pride, and dignity, and how he wouldn’t stand for insane knights destroying his reputation.
Revan had finally returned from his trip to the fountain, wiping the back of his hand on his mouth. The others looked up at him, and Alamar broke the silence, by saying, “Revan, I didn’t know you were that good at laughing. Or puking, at that.” Revan returned the look with an innocent smile. “Me neither. Now then, who’s up for Round Two?!”
Chapter 11
“Hey, Revan, did’ya know that your barf is really disgusting? I swear, even the snipes are staying away from the part that you barfed in. I think you might have contaminated the water,” Nexon said to Revan, smirking. Revan scowled, and pushed Nexon away. “It’s not my fault that Will just had burp at that moment. My stomach wasn’t feeling so well, anyway, from the Snipe Pipe.”
Nexon, Alamar, Will, and Revan were walking down to the newly established Spiral Headquarters right outside of Haven. Since the crash, many of the senior ranked knights had already started to establish new teams and squads. The four of them had been noticed yesterday to meet at the Headquarters at 8 o’clock sharp in the morning to be assigned to their teams. Nexon had put in a request for all of them to be put together, so they were confident they were going to be in the same squad. They had also asked if Chomp and Bluey could join (actually, Alamar and Will were disgusted by the idea, it was Revan’s idea), but the Headquarters had said that they might “compromise the team.” Revan was especially disappointed, but the Headquarters had told him that if Revan trained them enough, and if they passed the Headquarters own test, they might be able to join as “assistants”, so Revan’s mood was lightened at that. Since they obviously couldn’t bring them to headquarters, they had organized to leave them at Hailoh’s for a short while. Hailoh was especially excited, since he had worked with many creatures, but never a wolver, so thought that this would be an excellent opportunity. They would drop by Hailoh’s after the meeting, stay for dinner, and then head back to the free apartment rooms they lived in that the headquarters had lent them.
Will snorted. “Hey, don’t drag me into your argument. Anyway, that’s what you get for becoming a Snipe Pipe addict. I told you it wasn’t good for you.” Nexon, Will, and Revan continued to argue about what had happened the previous day, while Alamar stayed silent. It wasn’t surprising, after all, since he was a quiet type of person.
When they reached the doorway to a massive building, they pushed it open, and they walked inside. It was all hustle and bustle, and they were constantly shoved, pushed, tripped, and squished against walls. Surprisingly, they managed to stay together, and they finally reached a doorway, that read:
TEAM ASSINGMENT
They entered the doorway, and the door closed silently by it-self, blocking away the sounds outside. Suddenly, it became very quiet. They looked around, and saw lone knight, sitting at the far edge of an oval-shaped table. They paused, unsure what to do. The knight raised his head, seeming to only just notice they were there. He gestured with his hand, and they presumed they were to sit down. They sat down, and waited, uncomfortably.
After what seemed like a few minutes, Nexon decided that he had enough of the silence. He coughed, and when the knight made no movement of acknowledgment, Nexon stood up uncertainly, and said, “Umm, sir, me and my fellow knights here are here for-” The knight finally stood up, eyes blazing with fury “I KNOW WHY YOU IMBECILES ARE HERE!!! DO YOU THINK I’M STUPID?!” Taken aback by the sudden outburst, Nexon stumbled backward, crashing into his chair. The other three knights, trained to do so since the age of six, immediately stood up, both arms locked to their sides. They saluted in unison, and shouted the standard reply to a ranking officer; “SIR, YES SIR!!” Nexon hastily stood up, and also shouted, “Sir, yes, sir!”
The knight who had just rose from his chair looked surprised at their answer. He glared at them, scowling. The other four knights stood there, almost like statues. Nexon whispered something to the other Revan, who whispered it to Will and Alamar. No one said anything for a couple moments, until the knight on the other side of the table sighed, and sat down. He motioned for the others to join him, but when no one moved, he said, “At ease, gentlemen.”
This seemed to have the desired effect he wanted, and the knights nervously sat down. Nexon quietly said, “I apologize for my outburst sir, it was-” The knight interrupted him with a wave of his hand. “No need, Nexon, that’s just part of my job and all, I really don’t give a damn about all those silly rules and such.” Nexon looked surprised at the knight’s answer, whose face was obscured by a hood. “Feron, is that you?” The knight took of his hood, showing a smirking knight. “’Course I’m Feron, you klunk head.”
Nexon gave a yelp of delight, and ran over to hug his best friend. Feron shoved him away, disgusted. “Always a softy, you were. Could we do this in a more manly way, maybe a handshake? A pat on the back?” Nexon backed off, smiling. “I see you’re still the same, Feron.” Feron shook his head, smiling. “Whatever you say, man. Now, about that team assignment…”
A few hours later, Nexon, Will, Revan, and Alamar came out of the room, all smiles, except for Alamar, who was neutral faced as usual, admiring their new badges. They were all wearing new badges, along with new equipment.
Nexon was looking at an especially shiny badge, which read:
Captain Nexon
Special Forces 11459
Leader of Omega Squad
Members; Alamar, Will, Revan
Team Striker
Will and Revan were already arguing whose equipment was better. “All you got is a puny medical kit. My stuff can make me go invisible.” Will smirked at Revan, who countered, “Yeah, well, being invisible is gonna be no good once you get yourself killed.” They continued arguing, while Alamar inspected his own equipment.
Nexon finished admiring his badge, and started exploring the uses of his new armor. It had little defense, but if you pulled a trigger, it let you go at a really fast pace for a short period of time.
As the rounded a corner, footsteps echoing on the gleaming, marble floor, Nexon saw that the next hallway was empty. He stood rooted to the spot for a few seconds, thinking that this would be a perfect opportunity to test his new stuff out. He glanced down the few doorways leading from the hall, checking to see if anyone was going to be watching, except his friends. When he saw no one, he let out a shout, and pulled the trigger. The small rocket booster on his back flared to life, and he zoomed down the hallway in seconds, exhilarated and thrilled at the same time.
When he reached the end of the hallway, he stopped abruptly, and fell down a staircase, bumping along every step. When his friends rushed to the bottom of the staircase, they saw that Nexon was slumped against the wall, breathing deeply. He had several cuts and bruises, along with scratches and dents on his brand-new equipment. He also had quite a nasty cut on his forehead, and possibly a few broken bones.
Revan knelt down to him, scowling. “Watch it! If someone saw that, we could have been kicked out of the Order for good! Dang, that’s gotta hurt.” He poked Nexon’s forehead, and Nexon let out a yelp of pain. “That…” Nexon managed, “was the coolest moment of my life.” Nexon winced as everyone heard a crack under his armor. “But…” he said, “also the most painful.” Revan was murmuring something about stupid knights as he opened his medical kit. Alamar didn’t seem too worried, and stood leaning against the staircase, watching Revan pull out bandages and other medical things. Will seemed pretty excited. “Wow, did you see those skid marks?” he gushed, “those were pretty sweet, dude!”
Revan was peering at his forehead, looking worried. “I think you got something in there, hold on, this might hurt. I don’t think it’s too deep in, just a small rock or piece of metal or something.” Revan reached into his medical kit, pulling out a shiny pair of tweezers. He told Will to shut up, and quickly pulled something out of Nexon’s forehead. Nexon grimaced, but didn’t complain. A bloody, un-identifiable object came out with the tweezers, and Revan placed it on his tray. New blood was gushing out of the cut, and Revan had to put more bandages to stem the bleeding.
Revan worked for a few more minutes, covering cuts, and putting disinfect on them, until he looked satisfied. “That’s the best I could do; those ribs will have to wait till I get my better equipment. We should get outta here; we won’t want someone seeing this.” He helped Nexon up, and told Alamar to help him walk. “I’m okay” Nexon said. It was one thing to get hurt and break a leg or something, but it was a whole different thing when it came to injured pride. Nexon grimaced, and let go of Alamar. He walked a few steps, and then tripped again, moaning in pain. Revan scowled. “Look here, you’ve opened up a few more cuts. And watch those ribs! It’s better to accept some help then kill yourself trying to do everything by yourself.” This time, Nexon didn’t complain when Alamar helped him up, taking his arm, and the four of them started down the hallway.
Will looked back at the other hallway that Nexon had ran in. “Wonder if anyone’s gonna noticed those marks… those were pretty deep man.” They continued down the hall in silence. It was about 5 o’clock, so the hallways were pretty much empty except for the occasional knight. Will glanced at Nexon after walking down the last staircase leading to the exit, and casually said, “You know, that was pretty irresponsible for a team captain. A new one, at that.” He smirked, and jumped the last few steps, avoiding Nexon’s blow to his head. “See’ya later, Captain.” He laughed, and ran out the exit, with Nexon cussing behind him. “Cmon, race ya back to Hailoh’s! Why don’t you use that striker shield of yours?” Will continued to laugh as Nexon kept a continuous stream of cuss words behind him. Oh, what fun it was to make people angry! Will thought happily, as he dashed down the road.
Chapter 12
“Hey…hey, umm… Hailoh, did you know that your pasta is JUST fantastic? I love it, the taste is so…unique,” Revan said, nervously. Hailoh beamed at him from over the table, and Revan shifted uncomfortably in his chair. Will and Nexon smirked at him, their plates just as full as his, while Alamar silently shoveled food into his mouth, with no expression. From under the table, Chomp was resting on Revan’s legs, and Bluey was hanging out with the other snipes outside.
The four friends had gone to Hailoh’s house shortly after Nexon’s “accident”, and had stayed for dinner. They soon found out that it was a bad idea. First of all, when they had gotten to his house, they weren’t sure that their directions were right. All they saw was a lump of brown… stuff. Then a door opened, and Hailoh come out, greeting them inside. Turns out that the brown “stuff” were actually snipe droppings. And the house was loaded with them.
The four of them had also had a once-in-a-life-time opportunity to choke to death on pasta. Actually, more like three, because Alamar hadn’t seemed to show any emotion whatsoever about the food.
Revan picked at his food for a few more minutes while Hailoh was busy tending to his snipes in his study. Will and Nexon were making jokes about each other’s food and what they looked like, while Alamar finished his pasta, and started reaching for seconds. Revan glanced at Chomp; he was still asleep. Revan kicked him lightly in the ribs, to wake him up. “Psst. Wake up.” Chomp lifted his head, and opened his eyes halfway. He opened his mouth and yawned, and settled back down to go back to sleep. Revan kicked him again, but he wouldn’t budge.
Sighing, Revan stared at the plate of food, thinking about what he should do with it. He honestly thought it tasted like sewage, and the snipe droppings just sitting around the house didn’t exactly help. He glanced at a window next to him; it had been a warm day, and Hailoh had opened it to let the evening breeze in.
Revan grabbed his plate, and crept over to the windowsill. Alamar didn’t seem to notice what he was doing, nor care, but Will and Nexon looked at him, confused. Revan put a finger over his lips, and dashed over to the windowsill, dumped the contents of the plate over, and ran back to his seat. It was just his luck, too, because Hailoh suddenly walked back into the room, with Bluey on his shoulder.
“Err, it’s getting real late, seems like we’ll have to leave now. Thanks for the meal, Hailoh,” Nexon said to him hastily. “Too bad we can’t finish this wonderful pasta, there just wasn’t enough time.” “Yeah,” Will agreed, “just wasn’t enough time.” “Oh! But that’s alright, because I already prepared two jumbo-sized containers full to the rim with my pasta for you guys to take! Revan said that you guys loved it, so I thought, why not?” Hailoh went back into the kitchen and came back out a few minutes later with two gigantic containers. He placed them on the table, smiling broadly. Will and Nexon looked surprised for a few moments, and when Omega Squad finally departed, Revan could swear that he felt two pairs of eyes boring into his back the entire trip back to their apartment.
When they arrived back at their apartment, Nexon immediately tossed the two containers into the garbage can. Will settled down on the top of his bunk, and took out his Avenger, to start cleaning. Alamar went into the bathroom to clean himself up, and Revan was making a makeshift shelter for Chomp and Bluey to temporarily share. Nexon sat down on his bunk, which was underneath Will’s. “How come we have to share a room?” he complained. Will answered without taking his eyes away from his glowing sword. “It’s protocol. Squads have to stay together in case of an emergency, so they don’t get separated. Plus, there aren’t enough rooms for everyone to have their own. Once everyone starts making homes and shelters, this place will probably become pretty empty. It’s only a shelter for us knights as a temporary solution. Soon, we’ll have our own homes.”
Nexon shrugged. “Guess that makes sense.” Alamar came out of the bathroom, all cleaned up. “Done,” he said. “Thanks.” Nexon got up and went in.
“How do you guys like this makeshift shelter I made for Chomp and Bluey? It’s pretty small, I guess, but it’s only temporary.” Revan smiled proudly as he showed Will and Alamar the small box-like… thing, which consisted of blankets, cloths, and other things. Chomp was resting inside of it, gently snoring, while Bluey dozed peacefully on Chomp’s head.
“You know,” Will said as he climbed down from his bunk, “I think it’s pretty cool that Chomp and Bluey got along so quickly. I would’ve thought that Chomp would have eaten Bluey.” Revan shrugged, and said, “Well, he didn’t, so that’s good.” Alamar looked at it for a few minutes, shrugged, and climbed to the top of his bunk. He placed his Jalovec and Khorovod in their criss-cross sheaths across his back, and took the sheaths off. He placed them under his pillow, and pulled the blankets over him, obscuring him from view.
Both Revan and Will looked at Alamar. Shrugging, they both returned to talking about Revan’s pets, until Nexon walked out of the bathroom. Will went in next, and then Revan, and soon, they were all getting ready for bed, except for Alamar, who was already asleep.
“So…” Revan said as he pulled his blanket over his head, “how’s your first day as Captain, Nexon?” Will snorted at this, but kicked his bed from underneath. Will yelped, and was silent after that. “Eh, it was okay. My favorite part was trying out my striker set.” At this, Nexon smiled at the memory. “Speaking of that, I think you should stay here tomorrow, let your ribs heal, you know. I don’t think you should go out tomorrow,” Revan remarked. Nexon was going to protest, but thought otherwise, and shut his mouth. Revan smiled, and closed his eyes, falling into a deep sleep.
