I'm going to boycott accessories until the price for Silver Keys lowers. And probably CE in general. Who's with me?

Hah.

I am. This stuff is total BS. 750 is not realistic.

I'm with you 750 ce for a key lmfao wow con-men in action 000 you got to be joking right? no one will pay that i mean no one!

Balancing the game?

Ha, no, let's add some useless accessories instead.

Ha! As if threads like this

Ha! As if threads like this ever influenced people.

I've spent more on armor that I use mostly for costumes, I'm sure others have too. The market will decide if this is a reasonable price or not. I've never bought a heat amp, I'm only slightly more likely to buy a silver key, but that is me.

Edit: the lockboxes are showing up on the AH quickly, they must drop a lot. I predict they will be close to worthless.

I like the part about this

I like the part about this release where we have to basically pay the Energy cost for a 5* item for a chance for a completely cosmetic item that gets destroyed if you don't like/get tired of it being on one of your items.

This is hilarious.

This thread is hilarious.

Yeah...

Have to agree with Algol-Sixty. I have several 5* armor sets that are just for costume, and those are pretty expensive even though they are also usable. Not to mention, people pay over 10k CE for a Rose set.

Lestatshadow's picture
Lestatshadow
no one will buy this 750 ce

no one will buy this 750 ce put it as much of a ripoff as heat amp is and no one buys those so, They have to lower the price or this will just become more unused content

Digitalartificer's picture
Digitalartificer
Still...

Still, this is a ridiculous price. Pay 800ce for a usable item, or 750 for a SURPRISE (it could be completely worthless to you -_-) costume piece. (thought they would have learned from the heat boost)

is paying $2.50 for something

is paying $2.50 for something totally random out of hundreds you probably don't want, or you'd destroy for a prettier one later, the only way to get these?

If so... o_O

Can't imagine them lockboxes being worth more than a couple crowns...

I think the reason people are

I think the reason people are angry is because the price of even the least rare accessory is so innately expensive. It's very unreasonable and I feel 0 desire to obtain accessories with such a price. With armor costumes one can much easier obtain lower tier armor and bomb masks. Even the 5 star items are functional, compared to the accessories which add nothing.

750 is just too high for my tastes. I do have the money to pay for it, but, again, I feel no need to because they're so expensive in comparison to other things in the game as well as the comparison of the price to their pure aesthetics which add no use.

Gell's picture

Are you the target audience?

I'll agree with Culture. I've spent time leveling and energy to get gear just for costumes. Promos like Rose regalia and PAX prime codes sell for the price of 10-30 keys (7.5k-40k CE). While those were limited, and accessories technically aren't, the price for a key seems fair. And you can be glad it uses CE, not real money.

Since I've spent nothing more than 75 cents to have an alt on the same computer (back when there was a 75 cent option), I've never really bought CE. Now I sit on piles of it, and a key is still less than a silly heat amp. Seems fair to me, and I wouldn't be surprised if the price for keys went up due to the large volume of purchases.

You won't be buying a key? OOO probably doesn't care. You're part of the game that moves the market instead. Are you crying about accessories you don't care about?

Coneykrab's picture

My issue

While it is about the same cost for a vanity item on TF2, at least you know EXACTLY which one you're going to get. This is too much cash to hope for an item that I have a <1% chance of getting even when I spend the energy. And where's our mat sink, ahem ahem? I thought this would work well, after all, these are just VANITY items, not super-awesome 10* epic haxxor whatevers.

should be kinda thankful that

should be kinda thankful that you don't need to spend cash to get a key like tf 2. the price would be even higher i'd imagine if that's the only method.

People pay craploads of CE

People pay craploads of CE for 5* stuff too, which costs only 50 CE more to make yourself than accessories (not including all the previous level items, which can run you as much as 1460 total). And the 5* stuff actually DOES stuff. Doesn't matter if you craft it with the intention of using it as a costume, you can still equip it and use its function. Whereas the accessories do nothing whatsoever.

Whimsicality's picture

Implying it's worth it

It takes a load of patience to play this game without spending a single cent on it. I respect those people.
The way things are going, the value of the crown will keep going down, there will be a plethora of people buying CE for the sake of getting these accessories that don't do anything but act as a Team Fortress 2 hat simulator, and then what?

Also, to everyone saying that it's only CE and we should stop complaining: Where do you think CE comes from? Real money. $$$. CASH. Dough. Sponduli. Green stuff.

Actually, I'm fine

Upon rereading, I noticed that items don't come out of the box bound to you, whoopsie. In that case, I am fine with this system.

Lestatshadow's picture

WOW they have failed big time

WOW they have failed big time here no one will pay 750ce for a key this will turn out to be just like TF2 crate where you have like 20+ filling up you inventory because no one will buy the key for it when it at such a ripoff price

be prepared for the box's in a very very short amount of time to become worthless and unsellable

Gell's picture

Let's not get back into the

Let's not get back into the old CE = cash argument. A giant thread didn't come to an agreement, so we won't here either.

Not that everyone loves keys in TF2, but the point is Valve is making so much money from key sales they don't care, and they don't need to. Neither does OOO. A key in TF2 costs $2.49, less than $2 in trade. A SK key costs about $2 based on the 7500 CE package. Everyone is free to whine, but you should definitely know that a large enough number of people will buy the keys (no, not because they are stupid, or sheep, as is always an argument that comes up in TF2). If you think posting your complaints so OOO will have a change of heart, they won't.

One thing we can agree on: [X] allow full inspect

And I will agree to one thing lestat just said: boxes will likely drop in value, once the initial rarity disappears. Sell them now! It took a while for TF2 crates to become nearly worthless (months), so don't expect it to happen overnight. For now, they are rare and mysterious! As for the TF2 equivalent of unusual hats, those will never come down in value, as I predicted at launch. No one believed me, people said unusuals would sell for the price of a regular hat within months. Nope, price went up instead. Minimum for an unusual now is 2 buds. Used to be 1.

Accessories will always be in high demand. One funny thing though is what OOO calls the "rare" accessories. The stuff that only works on specific armor. While rare, I don't think those will be as wanted as the "common" stuff that works on all armor. The reason being, they are like all-class hats in TF2 (i.e. unusual all-class hats). Those are worth more than most hats due to being so universally applicable, even if they are not made for a specific type of armor. Common items will have higher prices than rare items eventually.

Coneykrab apart from you

Coneykrab apart from you cant see what in the box before opening it so it totally random if you get something you like and even after opening it you have no idea what it look like on your gear/armor with out attaching it to it. Meaning if you dont like it guess what you have to destroy it waist 750ce nice!

...you guys are complaining

...you guys are complaining about the not-really-that-steep price of a little optional cosmetic feature? Really?

Njthug brought up a good point. I'd like to bring up one of my own: Many other MMOs have cosmetic items available, but only for a duration of 30 days, and with no way for a F2P player to get them. The accessories in SK give you a little more freedom than that.

Here's how you fix this, make

Here's how you fix this, make the keys a drop in the clockworks. Why not? Yea, go ahead and spend you 750ce on one (which i do think is a tad high, bring it down just a bit) but make them have a drop percentage that you can get one every 3-4 full tier runs. They will still be rare, they will still be valuable, and if you really don't want to work for one, buy one from the AH or from Boost.

Keys don't drop in TF2?

So I kinda doubt it.

Look, I only started "playing" TF2 when I realized there's a market for this stuff in SK. :D
Not even making it F2P did anything for me.

Awesome, this isn't TF2, this isn't Valves game. Having them drop would be a great idea, I don't care what TF2 does.

Arctic-Fern's picture

Well...

I don't really "play" TF2. I can't because I have vertigo that prevents me from meaningful play of any fast-paced FPS (read: all of it). TF2 can be played as a "spectator sport" if you know what I mean. And after that, any items gotten can be sold out.

***

By the way, I also noticed that this is also a stealth CE thread. :D

Anyway, boycott the keys, but don't ignore the boxes, even CE whiners and trolls like the original poster can't possibly say no to free crowns.

Even if boxes eventually sell for as low as 100 cr it's still free credits.

I'm with you 750 ce for a key lmfao wow con-men in action 000 you got to be joking right? no one will pay that i mean no one!

I'm probably reiterating previous posts, but oh well. You clearly don't play Team Fortress 2. Everyone said the same things when Mann Co. came about. Yet the sales of keys and other virtual products have made Valve so much money (probably more money than sales of the actual TF2 game) that it greatly influenced their decision to make TF2 free to play. Yes, people will pay that. In fact, people ARE paying that. I witnessed about eight box openings in just half an hour, in one haven. And even though Mann Co happened about a year ago, I still see many crate openings while I'm in-game. The mania will lessen, but won't end, and that's what OOO is banking on.

Edit: why the hell don't these forums have a quote feature?

Whatever, it's all cosmetic.

Whatever, it's all cosmetic. It doesn't do anything aside from changing your character's appearance a bit. Nothing to cry over.

But if you really want to strap a few extra polygons to the side of your character's Vog helmet, maybe you should beg your parents to give you money for the CE needed to buy your precious 750 CE keys. Darn kids.

Lanieu's picture

How about

250CE and perhaps I'll think about a silver key.

Or 10k crowns or something realistic for everyone. Noobs have no hopes of getting a silver key...

Or, you should be able to get a silver key in the clockworks.

The deal is

750 ce = $2.50
They are just copying an already tested model. Crates in TF2 are mostly opened for unusuals though, which are worth some hundreds at times.
Would be cool if you could also craft accessories from scrap metal or get them randomly from the roulette though.

people talk like they need to

people talk like they need to buy Skeys straight from OOO to use on the lockboxes when in fact all you need to do is pool the CE from normal dungeon runs into it just like you do for equipment over 2*

if you don't want, it don't get it, but for those that have all their desired sets of armor now can decorate them weeeee

the only issue i have is when removing them they get destroyed, that's not cool OOO

Ok.... OOO, what i can't

Ok.... OOO, what i can't understand is that you got rid of the blue key system back in the early previews because you guys didn't like the idea of people buying them and potentially not finding a blue key gate (essentially gambling). Now what do you guys do? You introduce Punch, and ironboxes; When will you add the blue key system back in i wonder?

Still I'm pleased i can customize gear... just not at the price i can upgrade all my awaiting 4star gear to 5.

here's my view if you want it

here's my view if you want it then you pay for it if you don't want it then you don't have to pay for it. it lends no actual advantage in game over any other players so once again it doesn't matter at all. quit your bitchin and complaining. they won't lower the price of the keys just like they still have never lowered the price of the heat amps.

Mainly because that's not how it works. Demand for Crystal Energy = higher prices; massive demand for Crystal Energy = lower prices. There's no massive demand - or even demand - for Crystal Energy at this time. The price hasn't moved from the place it's been for the last couple of weeks. It's not going to drop. themoreyouknow

Accesories are more

Accesories are more attractive to a large croud then u think. I was talking about them being bought from the auction houses instead(as you can actually pick ure accesory there) for great amount of crowns.
