Online, I run by the name

Online, I run by the name Mantikore, but that was already taken. As for the current name, I'm a metallurgical engineering student, and haematite is a substance i often have to deal with (basically, its red rust). The word is derived from the greek word for blood, hence its red colour. I would have used the name magnetite, but it sounds too much like the pokemon

Origins of my name

Comes from an alias I use; Darakuji Shidara, Daraku (堕落 - read: corruption) relating to my standard username that I use elsewhere. Shidara was a name I made up to sound similar to my actual name, if only because of the sh.

Being read in traditional Japanese surname-first name, I use Shidara as my handle in most MMOs.

Originally my name was meant

Originally my name was meant to let you, the reader, insert your own pun of varying quality, since I felt like being meta and enough fun gets poked at overly edgy names. It's also conveniently short.

My barrage of stupid jokes means people expect me to make puns now, but they usually aren't clever, so the name remains but its meaning is different.

Well, a couple of years ago I

Well, a couple of years ago I was really into the Warriors series by Erin Hunter. The naming convention was a root word with a suffix that changed based on rank: -kit for a kitten; -paw for an apprentice; -claw, -heart, -stripe, etc. for a warrior; and -star for a clan leader.
I like wolves, and thought hey! WolfStar would he a good name to show how epicly awesome I am! (yes, that's about what went through my head. I was a noob back then). However (un)surprisingly WolfStar was taken at Kongregate already. Being unimaginative, I tried WolfClaw, WolfPaw, and hit a slightly less obvious name, as in one that wasn't take already, in WolfKit.
Nowadays, I use WolfKit because I like wolves and also cats, but I like the oxymoron mostly.

Some variations of my username that I used are WolfKitOF, WolfKit_OF, and Wolfkit Jones. The OF stands for OpenFeint, mobile forums where I (mostly) graduated from noobhood. Wolfkit Jones comes from back when I had a Facebook account. I needed a last name to make an account, and unimaginatively tried Wolfkit Animal, but Facebook wouldn't let me. (Good riddance! Wolfkit Jones sounds much better anyway.)

Fun fact: even though Animal isn't an acceptable last name on Facebook, Happyspleen is. I kid you not not, there is a Fred Happyspleen on Facebook.

P.S. I no longer use Kongregate, I'm running SK from Steam

The Triarii - my favorite pre-marian soldiers and the last line of defense for Rome before the reforms. Singular it is Triarius, which was taken, so I took the plural version which is Triarii. Blessing in disguise since I rather like the double "i" at the end, right Batabii?

Btw, big fan of of the quote memento mori. Also, murum aries attigit and alea iacta est, among others.

Big Latin/Roman fan here.

WELL

Completely took random letters and put them together. What It came up with was Xylka.
Checked google to make sure there were no matches, and when I realized there were (albeit too late) I would rather be called Xeirla.

Again, random letters + random letters = good name.

And I was the first to claim Xeirla, so +1 for originality....sorta

And what about Nick? Is it his real name, or an alias like most of ours?

I really liked the Troika series on my first Knight, Sirsteel (which was a Pokemon name I made up, but then deleted the Knight). Then looking at the cool Plate Shield, I thought of myself only using heavy weapons, like the Sealed and Troika lines. I also have other names Gyrome (for Gyro) for quick swords and Kross-Fyre (Cross Fire) for guns (this was before the Lockdown update). I only use Heavy-Duty and retain to using heavy swords, but am free to use any other equipment. :D

So, when I was really young I

So, when I was really young I started playing this game on yahoo called Toki Toki Boom. After a long time playing that many of the frequenters in the game found puzzle pirates and invited me along. I started playing in Alpha but the computer I was on at the time couldn't handle the game so I had to quit for a while. But I made my account name as Jenny, but when I went to make my pirate they said to use an adjective+noun combination. I chose something that represented my former game. Tokinjen... lol. I was like 13 when i started playing puzzle pirates.

I didn't know what tokin meant at the time. I just thought it was a clever and cute name. But someone informed me of the other meaning and... when I quit the game again and lost my character I created dancinjen, I do use tokinjen on puzzle pirates though because that is my pirate and I claimed it. lol.

So, for now on since i was like 15-ish I have used dancinjen as a character name.

I used to be a hip hop dancer and I suffered too many injuries and I can't really dance as of right now. I do some, but professionally would put too much strain on me. Also, my real name is Jennifer... most of everyone calls me jen though. My guild calls me dan as a joke. lol.

Scarred-Knight's picture
Scarred-Knight
Well...

First of all, I have two names, my forum name and my in-game name.

Starting with my in-game name, Ailment, it came from the title name of a storyline I have been creating for over 4 years now. The title was meant to imply that there was something unwanted in the storyline, but in actuality, in the storyline I define it as having conflicting sides (directly corresponds to the main character and another character later in the storyline). I don't like using my main characters name as an actual username, so I simply went with the title, it fit pretty well though.

Moving on to my forum name, Scarred-Knight is actually a character from the storyline I made, and in a spin-off I made for SK (in which the main character's name stayed for the majority, but changes to my in-game name later), the Scarred-Knight is actually my main characters rival, thus it makes it an awkward scene when I get both of them in the same general location at the same time...

I used to be big into Dragon

I used to be big into Dragon Ball Z. I liked the Earth dragon Shenron and decided to use that name on the internet. For a while I'd add something at the end based on what I was into: DBZ, Zoids, AC. Then when I came to a certain Animal Crossing forum the people there shortened it to Shenny. I liked it because it sounded effiminate, like Jenny (not my real name). When I sign up for something on the internet I try to use just Shenny. If that name is already taken I'll go with ShennyNerd, because "nerd" encompasses anything I'm currently into and that name is never taken.

A Tengu is a mythological

A Tengu is a mythological creature from Japanese folklore. They're master swordsmen, secretive, and all kinda of a big group of d-bags. They were originally "Dogs of heaven", but somehow got transformed into bird-men.
Originally, in Pocket Legends, I was Tengotengo. That's why most of my alts have repeating names; I would think that a bird-man would be into repetition.

I don't know what made me think of this name. I came up with it for a Lego robot, (it didn't use electronics, just Lego pieces.) and I really liked the robot. (I was a little kid then.) When my brother got into the beta for Lego Universe(He has this thing about betas. First he got into the Lego Universe beta, then the SK beta. :P), I wanted to have a character also, so I used AutoFire there, and it just stuck.

Thanks for asking

Back in the early 90s I was
a regular at an arcade called Friar Tucks. My arcade had a friendly rivalry with a neighboring arcade. One day the leader of the rival arcade saw me in his arcade and said "hey, you're that guy from Friar Tuck's! That 'Fryguy!'" and I've been Fryguy (no hyphen) ever since. It's usually taken so you can often find me online as "fryguy42," for The Answer to Life, the Universe, and Everything, or by my ign, "Aremel," which is my name. My initials, rather: aR eM eL, or RML. But everybody online just calls me "fry."

Skold-The-Drac's picture
Skold-The-Drac
A nickname

Skold was my nickname in school... I won't go into detail as to why. (Think in elementary school they preferred s'cold, those who actually respected me anyway) That name was taken.
Torn was a nickname too, but I knew that was taken.
SO, using my obsession with dragons (DRAConis) I decided to give myself a royal name since I was going to be a knight. Skold-The-Drac.
Now I'm recognizing that Drac has also been used as a slang term to mean something along the lines of 'dark-hearted/cruel'. And it is true... I am cruel to my enemies.

The other knight I use Chimera-Jazz is because when I played other RPG's I always named a character called Jazz who would be a very avid fan of two daggers and a gun (or other manner of ranged weapon). The Chimera portion is because I recalled that name for the creature of alchemy under the same famed name. A creature made of two (or more) very different animals, designed for a specific purpose. Jazz's is easy, either slash it down or gun it.

Azkaellion's picture
Azkaellion
Azkaellion

Azkaellon is a character in the Warhammer 40k universe who, thousands of years before the current story arc, pulls his Chapter through the loss of the Emperor and their Primarch... After establishing a new chain of command, he simply disappears from all records... However when the forces of the Blood Angels are pressed to the point of breaking, and it seems there can be no escape, a warrior clad in armor and wings of gold hurtles from the sky to change the course of the battle. All that is known about him is that he is one of the greatest human warriors alive... No one knows where he comes from, and no one knows where he goes...

I loved the fluff, so I changed the spelling for copyright reasons and there you go!
Azkaellion (Az- kay- lee- on), or Az for short.

Spectralcolours looks weird

Spectralcolours looks weird without a space and a capitlized c so I went with the other online name I used once upon a time "Ech0ez" which -and this may come as a surprise- came from the word "Echoes" -truly a shocking twist-. However "Echoes" looked boring so thought I'd jazz it up with a 0 and z because the use of 0 and z in internet names is a clear sign of coolness, like randomly spamming numbers after your name -I was 12 when I came up with it, shut up-. However 0 is apparently an offensive number in the eyes of Three Rings since Nick has a crippling fear of numeracy, so it ended up just "Echoez".

Negimasonic
just copying from Deviantart because I'm lazy

What is a "NegimaSonic"?
"I don't know >.> It started from me being foolish with my Runescape password and me having to trust someone else blindly to recover my Runescape account and I couldn't think of a decent password to give them so I just put something new I was into "Negima" with something I've always liked "Sonic" and tada. It really could've been NarutoSonic, or perhaps NegimaMario lol...

Since then, I tried to envision what a NegimaSonic could be. My first result was a messed up mash up of Sonic the Hedgehog with Negi T. Springfield. Later, I took some of my knowledge of the words and tried to make up something.
Negi = onion, one version of Negima means a food where an onion is on a skewer with other foods.
Sonic = sound->speed or supersonic speeds of aircraft, yeah, that one needs some work but it could still dodge some copyright issues probably..."

end cut/paste

Though in beta, I used my real first name. Not like that period mattered much, I was only there for like a week before the official game. So I decided to go back to NegimaSonic past that point...but alas, the game doesn't like capital letters in the middle.
