no one should roll on their items anymore tho. next month they'll just sell triple max uv's in the AH any way

Meh.

I don't see what the big deal is unless you bought all that CE/cr with real money. (My understanding is most of you big-timers started with a modest purchase and multiplied it through merchanting--correct?) Yeah, now everyone else has a shot at amazing multi-UVs, too. Guess what? You guys are still the ones who have the largest fortunes and who are consequently best placed to 1) roll triple maxes omgomg using the lock-in system, and 2) buy the uber items lesser players might roll.

@ Derpules

Example, you buy something off AH at 1000ce, merch it off at 5000ce. That 4000ce is not made with real money. Does that mean you'll happily give it away to anybody? NO.

Another example, if you spend 30k ce investing in a pair of Shadow Dragon Wings, which wasn't purchased with real money. Only for OOO to put it up on featured the next day for a b/o of 20k ce. You'll be upset too. Real money or not does not matter.

It's not the point about how we got the currency, it's the effort that goes into getting it.

I couldn't care less if OOO's aim for now is just to make more money before this game's playerbase dies off, but there are much better ways of doing it.

yeppers.

never any new content in this game. just endless updates that take a dump on existing players to try and squeeze more money out of the community. at this point OOO = wizard of oz. Hiding behind their curtain, never giving new content, and tricking the masses into spending more money.

Or perhaps the emperor's new clothes, or a magician (never mind the business hand, look at my other hand).

Forever no new content. Endless updates for cosmetics. For heaven's sakes, quit trying to fix things that are not broken, quit giving us stuff we've specifically asked not for (don't' worry, UV'd gear on the AH is next), and start pumping out some freaking gameplay. NEW CONTENT. not NEW COSTUMES.

Anyways. I wish i were more apathetic about this, but i'm not. Ii'm pissed. I think its a pathetic money grab at the expense of those who had supported the game previously. It might be enough to push me over the brink. Could be it for me. Not going to make any dramatic i quit statements, but it certainly is pushing me in that direction. [which i'm sure they don't care, since i've only spent about 150 dollars on the game over the last year]. But i hope some of the big spenders are as outraged as i am.

Srsly, why not trot this idea out in the suggestions forums for us to chime in on first? Why not get a better idea of how sk players feel? why not have a survey with this on it for a month or two? Maybe the community would have voted for it 60/40, who knows. But at least i'd feel like they were trying to make the game better (by listening to their consumer base) rather than just say "What do we care about those who have grinded, spent, earned, and made great gear. Eff them, LETS MAKE SOME MONEY!!!!!"

@ derp, its not surprising. I don't think anyone who hasn't spent 100s of millions of crowns rolling for 3uv and 2uv gear can/could understand this plight. Even if pawn and i made our crowns in game, it doesn't mean we value them any less. And this function more or less retroactively robs us of crowns we spent. or if not robs, it changes it from "crowns i spent" on 3 uvs and into "crowns i wasted" on 3 uvs.

For the record, i don't' think this is going to be THAT game changing. Double and triple rolls chew threw even the wealthiest crown count at an amazing rate. So to sit there and double (or triple) roll on an item over and over.....thats not a sustainable plan. But still, through dumb luck, costly repetition, or spending a ton of real life money on it, the amount of amazing gear is about to increase exponentially, thus watering down those of us who have some great gear already (great gear we created at a much more costly rate :(

So while i don't think its going to really affect me that much, it still pisses me off. I don't understand how OOO can keep making these types of decisions. They are like the Lebron James of the MMO world. Spiral Knights is an incredibly gifted and fun game, and every time they open their mouths or make a move, its invariably a head scratchingly bad decision. To the point that its unbelievable. To the point where you begin to wonder "why not just hire someone to screen all your tweets (lebron james) and updates (OOO)." Go ahead leave it up to someone else's better judgement, because theirs has a track record like a train wreck.

I suppose the logic is something like this:

A - Should we enable UV locking?
B - But what about all those few players who spent millions using those rolls? Won't they be annoyed because it'd have been unfair to them?
A - Yes, but there are like what... 4 of them... if we do this, many more than 4 players will actually use the 2 and 3 UV rolling.
B - Let me crunch the numbers....... [Number crunching] Yup. More ppl will roll 2 & 3 uv's based on the data.
A - Good, so this will make UV rolling an effective crown sink, like we originally planned.
B - Yes, and then we can stop doing those CE promotions in such great frequency. The player community always seems to rage when the prices hit the 7k mark.
A - Make it so! Implement the UV locking.

Remember that once you get

Remember that once you get one UV you like, you have to use the 2 UV ticket to get another one, and the 3 UV ticket when you got 2, just to get ONE new one, so you could potentially spend MORE crowns.

Lets go with the worst and best case scenario.

Lets say you want triple Maxs of ANY UV, and the method of buying one then locking it. If you get maxs on your first try with each, you spend 320K on that item.

Lets go worst case now. You only want 3 SPECIFIC UV's. The chance of getting the on you want as max 1 in 66 for armor, so if it takes 66 tries on EACH UV to get the one you want, it would cost a whopping 19,932,000 -or more for every time you get a single UV twice- for EACH ITEM. If it is this worst case scenario that is. Though it may not be as much as the worst case scenario for no UV locking, Its still a whole lot.

@Gingermace

This patch favors "pay to win." Normally I would never associate that term with Spiral Knights, as buying energy will do nothing but move you towards end-game faster and allow you some advantage in rolling UV's. This patch, while increasing the need for crowns and therefore decreasing the value of CE, still favors the people who purchase energy above anyone else.

I suppose it is not bad, but it is extremely shady. To see such a crown sink boldly implemented is kind of jarring.

You're right; I was far too glib above. Of course it sucks to be in your position (well, relative to someone in your position who hadn't spent so much triple-rolling). All I meant was that it's not like you guys are ruined, and given your vast wealth and ability to generate more, when the dust settles you'll still be the players with the best UVs anyway. Just with a smaller fortune than you would otherwise have had. Which does suck.

tld;dr: I meant "it's not the end of the world"; it came out as "it's no big deal at all; quit whining". Which I did not mean. Mea culpa.

Rom u r the man u pawn hippo rubyecplise and many others i dont know of have spent alot of money in game both in game money and real money to generate in game money.

i myself have spent well over 1000 Australian dollars on this game and it saddens me to see this kinda direction "forward"

the effect this will have on the in game economy will be disaterous. inflated ce prices 100 ce sale = 10k cr and 9.9 cr to buy it!!!!!!!!

all the single uv items will become trash i mean i spent a good couple of hundred dollars worth of CE on buying items!!! which will now only have a value that doesnt even make up a single penny!

and ur right there was no survey there was no real interaction. why even have a forum when u can make the descissions on ur own OOO? ever since the sonic promotion SK has dropped ball big time.

wings? nobody cares about wings! get flying lessons in a plane!

cakes? bah we dont want cake we can make it ourselves!

pets?! are u kidding me?! we cant even look after out knights arsenals and u want us to play with monsters?!

there is no long term for SK at this rate i dont know who agrees with me but hell thats how i feel about all this.

"...it's retroactively robbing me of 100's of millions of crowns..."

I want to stab you in the throat now with the way you've phrased this. You are not being "retroactively" robbed. That is impossible. That cost you sunk was one you willingly did knowing how much it would cost at the time. Did you not think it was worth it then? Then why in the everloving name of god did you do it? Did you expect prices of these things to stay static until the sun died? Are you an idiot? I doubt that. You won't see me complaining if they invalidate the few UVs I got. I certainly got what I payed for out of them. I wouldn't have payed the price if I thought otherwise.

Your complaints over their content release schedule are justified though. Anything playable is a rare release.

Yeah, sort of a bummer...

I really feel for you, Pawn.

However, I feel like I ought to point something out. You may already be well aware of this, based on your post above. There's this horrible principle in online games, you could call it 'feature creep' or 'power creep'. I haven't played an online game yet that didn't have to contend with this issue.

WoW is a good example. Used to be that getting faster transit (mounts) was a level 40 thing. Now it's 20? I don't know. Weapons, armor. Leveling speed. Online games are a bizarre evolution of change and creepiness.

Adopting things early is sometimes good (cheaper, limited availability) and sometimes very bad (price fluctuations, systematic changes) but it seems to hit outliers the hardest. I've been playing a year now and still don't have any CTR VH weapons. I had a VH ASI Argent Peacemaker, which I sold. Despite my cautious nature, I have still been burned by the feature creep, and probably will be with this patch.

I guess what I'm saying is, always expect the game to become friendlier (easier) towards new players. And yeah, sometimes the dedicated players get the shaft. I don't think it's necessarily right, but we need to stop being blindsided by it and learn to expect and anticipate it.

Anyhow, my condolences. As always, I'm waiting to see how this pans out, too.

You spent the money as part

You spent the money as part of a challenge, for fun, to be unique, whatever. now that challenge has been changed and its a different ballgame, its easier to obtain these things. What can the new challenge be? I dont know, and i think this is the real problem.

If you honestly are complaining purely because you spent millions, i suggest you get over yourself. You had fun while the system was in that particular state, if you didnt, then why did you waste your time. creature of habit? Did it because you already invested so much, so you want a return?

Or simply, and more likely, because you really had fun getting to that point, sk is a great game and at heart you simply find it a shame that there is no more content that satisfies you, so you feel cheated that that investment could not have been put onto something that could have continued that fun you had. What aspect you did gain satisfaction from, OOO have taken away and its frustrating.

I think this is a good patch as it introduces a VERY good crown sink, which is scaleable for players at all levels, which will sort the economy out.

However, this does not make up for the fact that the game desperately needs new playable content. A level editor for us would be ideal, where we can submit our own designs. use the playerbase to your advantage OOO, we beg of you :D

@Dirt I suppose it is not

@Dirt I suppose it is not bad, but it is extremely shady. To see such a crown sink boldly implemented is kind of jarring.

How do you think this compares to the old way of rolling for 2 or 3 UVs? Is this more of a crown sink, or less? The OP seems more upset that it's now easier to get UVs, which to me, sounds like it'd be less of a crown sink to one person, but more attractive to more players, sinking more total crowns in the game. Isn't that a good thing?

I'm not saying locking UVs is a good idea. I'm just discussing how this is a shady crown sink, whereas before, it was totally cool that 2 and 3 UV tickets were totally random and reset every time a player rerolled, which I'm sure plenty of people did after getting 2+ low UVs. That seemed more of a crown sink to me than locking UVs, at least for one player. I'm fine when more people are able to sink their crowns, not only the extremely rich (but the somewhat rich as well). The poor can keep not sinking their crowns, since they have too few.

Oh no! I will be able to catch up with the big boys sooner!

Didn't I hear people rant about the unfairness of heart pendants being made available to the poor? Oh, and when Shadow Keys were made available without having to open a lock box, people got made because they spent so much money on the lock boxes and only to have their shadow keys become common. I guess any time something is made cheaper and less rare. The players who got the stuff first will complain.

Pawn, Dirt, you two have become legendary players who I fear, your gear is godly and near unattainable for me. I know Everyone in the Jempire and Guild will be upset due to this update but I, being a relatively noobish player, will rejoice in the ability to catch up to them.

Ya'll got those things first, you reigned with them, and now other people will be able to compete with ya'll. People always pay more money to be first and less money to catch up so I quite love this update (Although I didn't spend 300million on armor to be the best.)

This update just makes it easier to balance out Lockdown once you're filthy rich.

@Rommil, Shadow Lairs, Drones, Missions, Expansion, and soon more weapons. This game keeps making plenty of new stuff to do.

hi gell

My issue actually is exemplified by your points. You are right. 3 random uv's every time was a larger crown sink. And i have invested in it MIGHTILY!!!!

i have vog coat max pierce+max shock+low norm
snarb coat max pierce+med stun+med norm
Crest of almire max normal+high shadow+low elem
Crest of almire high elem+high shadow+high pierce
Barb thorn shield max shadow+med normal+low elem
Perfect seerus mask max shock+high shadow+med stun
Voltedge ctr vh+asi low+undead low
DA ctr vh+slime low+ubeast low
GF ctr vh+beast high+slime low
Darb briar bomb ctr high+grem med+fiend med
Dark Retribution ctr high+fiend high+undead low--i spent a ton rolling this before they nerfed it :(

Well i have more too, but i'm not gonna list it all. So the fact that the old way is more expensive and i rolled all that above (i bought the voltedge) is the reason why i find it so alienating. It's why i feel retroactively robbed. I mean look at all those swords and bombs. Now i would have saved a ton of money just buying a ctr vh and then adding any 2 random uv's to them. My swords, my bombs....they are no longer prized and cherished items. Everyone who has a ctr vh can now have a ctr vh triple uv. It just sucks for me. I spent a fortune because i wanted to have the best gear on the game. I have 3 swords with ctr vh+uv+uv. It cost me a ton. Now everyone who has a ctr vh sword can have what i grinded a year to get. Just lame. I mean, it's personal issue to be sure. But it just feels like i worked so hard (a labor of love to be sure) to get all this stuff, and now it's being given away.

To quote spiral hipster.....GG

@balderus

I won't belabor the uv's point.

But i did wish to correct you on the shadow key front. The reason people raged about shadow keys is because OOO implied that we all needed to open lockboxes to find a shadow key (with out telling us there was roughly a 1 in a million chance to get it--if you even could!) They then covertly started seeding them into the auction house, while not announcing that they were doing this. Then they doubled back a bit later and made them available for purchase by CE.

then they dropped the price after a few weeks. It was just shady and sketchy from cradle to grave.

and trust me. the game has not offered plenty of new stuff to do. Over the course of a year, the amount of new content has been incredibly sparse. At this rate, check back in with me on april 24th 2013 and i'll bet you will sing a different tune :)

Just an FYI. 90% of the original heart pendants on the game were farmed by cheating. Thus 90% of the players with heart pendants dominating LD were using an item obtained by breaking the ToS. And before you jump to conclusions, i'm not saying they cheated. Most heart pendant owners bought them, they didn't directly cheat themselves.

Hm, and I think that Shadow Lairs may even become easier to get to... after all, the price for entering them is almost the same as buying an expansion mission. er... stop the insanity.

Come on guys, this isn't the end of the world.

I honestly thought this "update" should have been implemented from the start. (Admittedly I am speaking as someone who does only a limited amount of rolling.) The luckiest UV's I've ever gotten were either H or VH, and always during crafting. When Punch came out I was like "oh right on Becs, you can now add some awesome ctr uv to your vh asi Caliber, wouldn't that be great", only to find out that I would have to risk the first UV to add another.... ugg

Honestly, every time I roll I fail. Come on people, it's still probability. In my world Punch is the biggest troll in SK. For example one day he gave me Beast Med or low 10x in a row on my FOV (I was like f-it, Med beast it is), or just the other day, undead low on my EV (damage bonuses on bombs are his ultimate /rude becs). You are still going to need to roll a [poop] load of times or get very very lucky to get a MAX UV rolling on anything, and then consider adding a second or third UV. It staggers the mind. It honestly is probably easier and cheaper to rage craft using mist than roll.

Maybe the biggest issue in the game is lack of content. I can't run the shadow lairs effectively (lag some days) enough to buy shadow keys, if it was a one time pay deal maybe more people would run them. Would also add challenge to a game where people are starting to complain about lack of things to do.

Content please, pets/uv locking not the end of the world, meh about height, eyes, pretties.... I like the people I've met here, I'd like to play with people more.

My 2crs (will refund if requested).

They've been doing this for ages, releasing Accessories while they work on new content. Why is it bothering you now?

I think it's great for the newer players

I have found that the better one gets at this game, the less one cares about UV's. In fact, veteran players are often leveling up quite under-powered gear or even completely inappropriate gear, like an ash tail in Firestorm Citadel. I rarely truly need even the single Max. UV's I have on most of my gear, and I won't be spending a lot of ce to get multiple max gear now that I no longer need it. Oh, I know lockdown is popular for a lot of players, but for those of us who don't play it, ASI VH really doesn't matter.

Lets all take a deep breath,

Lets all take a deep breath, and relax. First, off no-one cares how much money one or two individuals spend in this game, if you think because you spend more than a grand or two in this game your more special trust me your not. 50 kids who spend even 100 bucks or so a month or every other month bring in the cash for Three Rings instead of 1 to 2 kids.

Now, as for the new changes in the uv's: Okay, your upset that you wasted x amount of crowns in rolling, but logically it wouldn't of been smart to double or triple roll for (double max or triple max items) *If you cared about money, and well just the whole luck aspect*. If you're complaining about the money you spent, well you could of always waited and bought the uv gear off someone selling it as well might of saved you some rolls.

Pets --- Okay, some of you can hate the sense we have pets, but I can dig up at least like 30 threads suggestion of having some type of pet....and now its here you rage....really guys...

Want to talk content:

1 Year:

3 Rings made 2 new bosses

Shadow Lair (3 new bosses since they are all different)

Mission System (which is over 10+ Hours of content if you don't run through it and do it properly)

Expansion Mission System (which is early 5+ Hours of content)

Added a bunch of new monsters

Added over 10+ new weapons

Accessories --- Im sorry if you don't consider this content, its not playable, but it sure as hell has kids spending hundreds of dollars.

Two special occasions to get rare masks (Halloween and 1 year Mark)

Two mini-games (Lockdown and Blast Network)

The game is filed up with content guys, the staff has been listening to most suggestions posted and add a twist to some of them, but well they need to use their ideas as well, but at least they listen to us.

Its cool if you don't agree with my point of view, and you can suggest I love three rings or am looking to twist the idea, but if you look at all the new add-ons this game went through in a year or so its been a lot of content for such a little team.
