Today in the morning i had a great idea:
What about magic for spiral knights?

i think for magic you must craft books(all with different spells)
maybe we become mana or have a book text screach time ...

I have 3 different ideas of a book(think the first is the best )
when you think the idea is good you can post some more spells for me :)
1.
Attack spells
(the knight carry the book in the weapon hand and the book si not so big maybe like in terraria)
-maybe fire balls
-icicle
-flash
-cruse spell(fires midel big balls and they look like the gran faust [color])

2. Defend skills
(carry the book in shield hand)
- shield spell (has a coldown from 10-15 sec or cost 100 of 100 mana)
[the shield spell protects you weith a golden shield arround you for 5 seconds it is stronger than a blue shield but can bbroken with massiv dmg(maybe 1 vana hit+1 slag guard from dmg])
-debuff spell [coldown 8-10 sec or 80 mana](you can debuff poison,fire,flash,cruse,ice)[from teammembers and from you]
yeah you use shield for it so the debuff spell will automatic choose a teammember how is taken by 1(when you have fire ,ice or.... it will first choose you
-push spell[2-6 sec coldown or 40 mana] (you will push all enemy arround you like the nitronome but WITHOUT DMG)

3.aura spells(the aura spell will be become all members in the party)
(carry the book as 1 weapon and you can change the weapon after make a spell without lose the aura)[you can only have 1 aura at the same time]
- elementar spell(all auras will have a coldown of 4 minutes )(auras will be lost after 5 min and by dead!)
[elementar spell will give you a extra defend for all elemts(ice,fire,poison,cruse,flash) so you can not easy being frezzen by a ice cube or some thing...
-attack spell (your weapon dmg will be become +5%) [or more its the choice of the gms]
revive[only avaibel 1 time in a level so you must use elevator for another spell and the spell will be only give to you!](have no time lost)
(this spell will give you a revive in the level thean you are dead ... but only with 25% of your life)[this spell is still over powerd]
-run spell(this spell will give you +10% movement speed)
animal[only the 1 with the book will become this like in revive](yeah will be lost with dead and only 1 time in a level but without dieing)
(you transform you in a monster of your choice(avaibel will be wolver,develits,zombie,normal gremlin(without shield),chromalisk,and this new almire knight from danger mission(not the big one)[all monsters without things like poison or fire...](you will be attack and move like the monster with the dmg of your choosen monster [maybe +10% cause monsters don't make many dmg to other monsters]
for example i tak a develite i will be jump from 1 point to another with shield and throw chairs or what ever with attack
(when you activate the book you will see pictures off all these monsters and click at 1 to transform in 1)
( you can deactivate the spell with writing /knight in the chat)

and i have another idea:
4. summoner spells(only 1 summon monster in the party ,when other persons summon monsters the first will be disapear)
(will cost 100 mana or 20 seconds coldown)(the monsters will be attacked from other monsters like your mecha knights)
-summon wolver(summons 1 wolver that will fight for you)
-summon mecha knight(s) (summon 1 mecha knight but after 20 seconds you can summon another and you can have 2 mecha knights that will fight for you)[max 2 not more!]
-necromancer book summon 2-3 zombies that will fight for you(coldown after 1 zombie is 25 seconds)
-slimer book (will summon 1 lichen[normal high] )
the 2 last books a rare and can only be craft with special magic items that you will find in a special mission that comes out with this patch :D
(the books will only have 5 stars and not less and you must craft theam like the heart pendaments but the 3 star book is a normal book without spell,the 4 star will be a magic book and after this 4 star book you can craft you spell book with the right items)
(i don't use large and small letters in the web)
when i have writen only a coldown it will be have only a coldown and not mana
(sorry for my english...)
so pls tell me: do you think this idea is good?

No.

This is Spiral Knights, not Spiral D&D.
Your magic will require a complete revamp of the system in order to work.
Quite a bit of it is overpowered.
Having a Tom Cruise spell with big balls automatically makes this a terrible idea. I have had enough of hearing about him and his Scienwhatsit on the newspapers already, I don't need him featuring in my computer game.

No magic. We are not magical. Though the knights and strangers are friends, and friendship is magic, so technically we are magic.

But no magic, durrdurrdurr.

Summoning is silly, seeing as we are technological. How about Engineering?

This suggestion is reffering to Harry Potter much? Basiclly what Toxicblade said is "Friendship is magic". So knights have magic. I mean, knights aren't wizards. You probably dreamed about him...

#2 lol i think only shadow lair is a little bit hard but i beat this 2 with a good group and 0-1 revs
3# tier shadow lair vana(beat all) -.- you don't trust me? watch my pictures in steam or see my knight with vana sl armore or snarbolax sl armore or ...
4# yeah pets are good all want it look at the pet suggsetion all knights sayed yes so i think we want pets!

I can dredge up the umpteen others from ancient history if you like.

I think we can safely say that, in the main, most people are not interested in having combat pets.

Magic incorporation would take a ridiculous amount of time, which could be used more fruitfully on rebalancing weapons, expanding the Clockworks, tweaking functions and adding new exploration areas. I would personally rather have this than have SK turn into another D&Dtype game.
If I want to play magic involving games, I've got a wide variety to choose from. I don't need this to become a clone.

yeah its in german forum so you must know german ;)
but i still think we must get pets(they only follow you and do 0 dmg 0 +buff or something else)
only for a sweet pet that follow you ^^

We already have ranged attacks which may cause a status. Most call them Alchemers. You must not know how curse works to attribute it to a ranged attack.

We already have a defending action. We call it shielding. We have a debuffing action as well, though I am unable to understand the nonsense you describe it with. We also have a pushing action already. We call it shield bumping and any weapon with knockback.

This is beyond overpowered.

Engineering translated by Aumir, my take on it. Your description is blatantly overpowered and ignorant of how the game works.

What are you going to suggest next, personal farms to collect vegetables which can be sold to NPCs for quick cash? That would devastate the economy and go against how the game works, but it makes more sense than your ripoff of basically every fantasy game in this whole suggestion.

...that thread was posted a year ago.
I found one 'pet' thread that might actually work, and was reasonably balanced.
Yours requires the entire combat system to be changed.
If they have no combative ability, then what's the point, other than causing people's computers to lag?
You already have the monster pockets for purely decorative purposes.
