(Note I'm saying this not knowing what the next promo is; I refuse to look it up in SS)

Not only is it my birthday month, but it's also the month of Halloween! I'm excited for this next one. I hope I can get one of the hats this time around. Of course, the Festival has to come in the first place. I'm just saying this in hopes it's here. I'll keep my fingers crossed!

lets hope they do, and tbh i dont want them add a daily prestige mission to get tokens, this would be the only reason to keep a bit alive arcade when people try to find king pumpking nest (was pretty nice to have friends and meet other nice players when you try to find the nest). also i hope they add the same masks and a costume armor for each masks (also new ones). its not like i dont think there an armor that match pretty well on the old mask i just a bit curious how the mask armor will look.

But if i remember it pretty well they said the event will return the next year (this one).

Well, the Dark Harvest Festival came last year on 10-19-2011 (also the day shadow lairs came out..... oh boy. good times. ¬_¬), soooo I would assume it will come out approximately 2 weeks from now? They could have several more outfits and costumes to farm tokens for. And maybe a new monster to farm as well as the pumpkin king? :D

On another note, accessories came out 10-5-2011, so I hope I assume "correctly" that the guild update will come out this week 10-3-2012.... >.<

Agreed

I hope they don't do the same thing for the anniversary....that wasn't very fun. (Though the rewards looked like !@#$ IMO, so I didn't feel so motivated, either.) I really do wish that they would add this to the CL. Or even better yet, both! A mission and a CL nest. Though the needed candies would have to go up somewhat to keep it from being really easy to get the rewards.

Another idea would to make it so that a nest would always be at the end of a danger room, in addition to the treasure you already can get.

EDIT: I was ninja'd! Yeah, hopefully they'll do the GH update with the DHF.

@Autofire, I actually don't think they should add a token mission. This would be a great, albeit short term, method for bringing back traffic to the arcade, and I don't want the missions spoiling that.

i agreed with oatmonster,

i agreed with oatmonster, while its truth that the chances to find a Nest its 50/50 thats pretty fine, to keep people playing arcade. i really enjoyed trying to find Pumpking nest the last year and i dont really wish a mission where i get tokens because that mean a shorter event. i want to find them which mean a longer event. i want at least for a few days to see again arcade like the old days of glory. but well thats my opinion.

Actually, looking back at that old event, that was a great setup to make playing through the Arcade useful for something: getting rare costumes. Maybe if they made some new accessories and/or costumes, new minibosses to bash heads with every once in a while, and roll from there.

And now for some of this.

I agree

I agree with Oatmonster and Autofire. A token mission would just take away the fun of going down into the clockworks and hunting for the nest with a friend, guild or random strangers. I really enjoyed spending countless hours doing random jumps down tier 1 trying to find nests. What I think they should do is make the nest tier oriented in how many token one will receive. Like 4 to 7 tokens in tier 1, 8 to 11, tier 12 to 14 for tier 3. and just make them just each tier more intense then last years. I did have a couple of nest runs in tier 2 and 3 last year and they did the same random token drops as tier 1 with monsters not much harder then tier 1. I also think its a good idea to bring back old masks, for those who did not have the chance to get them last year. They should how ever make new masks, matching costumes, and accessories to really make it feel like halloween.

I missed the Kat hat. I hope I can get another. Oh, and, what I was thinking was to have a prestige mission that would be ADDED into the actual prestige list, not something available everyday. Something with the whole Halloween theme in it. (Such as Bomb-kins?) Speaking of which, we need a pumpkin bomb head mask! :P We got a pumpkin bandolier last year, so a pumpkin bomb head mask would be neat too.

Bringing back the same masks is a terrible idea, in the entirety of my play time, I have never seen a duplicate promo. (there has been recolors, but those are fine) If the same masks were to be brought back, being a owner of all 3 masks and a phantom wearer, I would feel cheated. At the moment, I have probably seen 3 other people who wear a phantom mask, the others I don't see at all, If they were brought back, everyone would be wearing them, making me part of the 75% of players who will own them. If you missed your Kat hat, I'm sorry to say this, but tough luck. (the Kat looks ridiculous with most armors anyway...)

In regards to the Bomb-kin, there is already the Punkin, but it's a good idea to make the fight a bit harder with bombie-like pumkins trying to blow you up...

I'll add my 2 CEnts to this as well.

Dark Harvest was the best and most fun event ever. Period. We need events, not another promo, please.

Keep the Dark Harvest exactly the same as last year - only accessible by randomly finding the lairs in the clockworks.
We need a reason to have people go hunt the arcade.
At this point, we do not need more prestige missions akin to what you did for the 1st Anniversary.

Make new masks please, do not recycle or reissue. We need new "treats".

I would love though if the Pumpkin King having been defeated last year... comes back with a few new "tricks". ;)

I'd like to see new items released, with the option to buy old ones too. You'd have to do twice the work to catch up, but you would have that option. Or just get only what you want.

For an item that the devs put into the game to be enjoyed by everyone, a lot of people are rather exclusionary about them. Kinda sad to see how selfish people are.

Groundbreaker is conceptually tied to beta, which happens once.

Yes! Autofire agrees with Oatmonster!

I do agree. Yet I also think there should be a way to get the old ones, but in a manner that makes it difficult to do so. (Maybe from mirrored lockboxes? Some of us DID miss it for reasons out of our control.) I think maybe a special ticket that could be traded for any one of the old hats? This ticket should also be unbound in the case a user who has the old hats can sell/trade it.

Like, last festival, I went on a weekend-long vacation AND I had heavy school during most of it, so I had no chance to really gain anything permanent. Since I'm not the only one, most likely, I think there should be some rare way to get it. Maybe not. I'm honestly not too sure what the best way to handle the situation would be.

Why does it even need to be extra difficult?

Assuming new rewards are introduced, players who want to get the old masks and the new will have to do twice the work.

This seems fair for *free items*. What, are you telling me that all--or any--of the players who got the old masks would just not have bothered if they'd known they'd have another shot at them a whole year later?

Are you telling me that, if OOO gave us all-new masks this year, but told us that they'd be available next year, you'd choose to forego the masks this time around?

Basically, I don't see what detriment players incurred by earning the masks last year that would justify their insistence that the masks not be re-released. These aren't promo items bought for investment; no loss is incurred through reissue.

+1 Derpules, and my 2 Cents

Yes please! Dark Harvest Festival style thing again, not another "energy promo" and PLEASE no "prize boxes"!

I don't see a problem with letting people work for similar masks to last year *and/or* interesting new ones... personally I'd LOVE a Spookat mask but I wasn't around to earn one last year. If you were around last year and earned one then congrats, you got to earn one and wear it a whole year before those that didn't get the chance (assuming a repeat this year). If someone goes to the /same (or equivalent)/ effort this year that you went to last year to earn the /same/ reward how does that devalue /your/ efforts exactly? Would you rather see them up on the AH in featured auctions so anyone with access to a credit card can just up and buy it?

For the record I think there should be more promotions that allow you to /work/ for /account bound/ promotional items and I don't think that such items should ever be put up as featured auctions. (yes I know the official position is "blah blah nothing is sacred blah blah" but I can dream)

That should be sufficient rambling for now... oh except for whoever it was that equated people wanting a seasonal mask to wanting Ground-Breaker gear... invalid comparison, the beta was a one time thing not a once a year thing... yes I'd love to have had it but I'd lose my **** if I ever saw it for sale!

Also Pie, Pie pie pie!

Last year had "Phantom,"

Last year had "Phantom," "Spookat," and "Frankenzom." How about some other Status variants such as "Slag Walker" or "Hurkat?" Or maybe Armor pieces to match the original masks? I most definitely agree that the Punkin King reappearing in the Arcade Clockworks would be for the best.

Windsickle's idea!

That's good. Whether or not they're doing brand new masks, having recolors of older ones would be a good idea IMO. That way, people who haven't gotten the original ones can still get something like it, and at the same time we can tell apart those who actually got the first set of masks.

Of course, this is ultimately up to the SK dev team...it's their game after all. I think it would be best if we didn't get our hopes too high. Doing so is the best way for a fire to start if things don't go our way.

What if...

What if they made new items that had a color scheme like Groundbreaker armor? I cant find many things that match my Groundbreaker for a costume outside of accessories. We dont see that direct color scheme really. Just my idea.

Also, if they had armor matching costumes, what good would it do if some people (like myself) missed last year due to actions beyond our grasp? Sure we could have things that would look good with it, but it's mot a matching set. Personally, I think a stranger's abandoned or "dead" stranger cloak would be a good idea. We get a cloak, and we can still obtain the hats for them from AH or that 12 dollar thing. I dont know, but I cant believe it's already the second Halloween for spiral knights (since release). I'm sure whatever the Dev team does will be good for the larger scheme of things. But if it's a promo like a box or something, oh I will be livid. Maybe reintroduce a new (for most) boss or level for the clockworks? . Liiiiiike a sleep boss, Halloween, scary, not many know about, SLOOMBARGOOOOOOOO!

*Sigh*

Now that the tide has switched to people who missed last years DHF wanting a difficult way to get the old ones, I will have to argue more points...

"Some of us DID miss it for reasons out of our control"

Yes, true, just like I missed beta, winter events, and anniversary missions because I was not playing at the time. (I got bored of the game, for beta I did not know it existed) Do I deserve those items gotten from those events? No, I was not there as a committed player at those times. I am not complaining about not getting those items, those people who were there deserve them, just like the people who were around for the release of the Coliseum got Spiral Bombhead Masks to show "Hey, I was one of the first to play BN!" They would no longer show that authenticity if they were handed out to every new player.

I would suggest looking back through all the old events/promos and try to tell me which ones are exact duplicates, if there are any.

If you really want a lick of the old items, I would suggest bringing back the paper and replica versions of the old masks.

What I think will happen

1. Return of the pet-in-belt NPC with again Spookats, and Devilite, Griever and Silkwing as new ones.
2. Dark Harvest event again, with a daily prestige mission too. Masks are different.
3. Old masks are Featured Auctions. Daily auctions of them in high quantities which would act as a heavy crown sink.

How is that? I don't even...

@ Marazo!

First off, speaking for myself at least, I want the same shot you had at a /seasonal/ promotional item or something passingly similar to it, which I don't consider unreasonable. (in this case I like Guyinshinyarmors idea to have last years items or a variant thereof available in addition to new stuff so folks who already have last years stuff have something new to work for and those who don't can grind the clockworks like champs to catch up)

Secondly; of your 4 examples 2 were definitively seasonal in nature (anniversary and winter) and 2 were one of a kinds (beta and BN). I don't advocate for giving people who missed one time events access to the related promotional items but I /do/ advocate giving them a shot at seasonal promotional items. I don't want them to be sold, I don't want them to pop out of silly boxes and I don't want to be handed them just for signing up. What I want is the /same chance/ you had to put forth the /same effort/ to /earn/ an equivalent seasonal item (ie. same masks, re-skinned or something). If you really think this is unreasonable I'll just agree to disagree with you...

...and lastly your offhand implication that if people did get a crack at the items this year you'd suddenly go from being one of a deserving few, to one of "75% of players that have them" is specious. There is spam with much of the recent costume stuff because it was handed out like candy to everyone and his snipe for zero effort. I certainly didn't see even close to 75% of the player base sporting the Halloween gear, or the Anniversary gear, or the Santa hats etc and I've been playing almost daily since a few weeks after Halloween last year.

I definitely see your points there with the whole seasonal vs. one of a kind thing.

Now thinking about it, this is kind of silly because we are only assuming that the DHF will come back. Since it is highly likely though, this is is going to be the first repeat of a seasonal event and we will have to figure out if OOO thinks it is a good idea to bring back seasonal items.

Sorry if I was being "selfish or exclusionary" (truly sorry, I tend to be unintentionally mean when typing..), but about the devs wanting to put stuff in the game "for everyone to enjoy", I can disprove that. If you were talking about the masks in particular, then I could say that they wanted people who worked for the tokens to have them and/or people who were playing at that time, otherwise they would have just mailed it to everyone who logs on.

I don't really see what is so great about having the same masks again when you haven't even seen the new ones they could potentially make. It would be fine to bring them back if the new ones completely suck, but if they are sufficient, then there is no need.

I also like to think of this analogy, think of it like a club or sport that has T-shirts each year.
1. They would rarely use the same design or have an option for the new/old design
2. You obviously have to be in the club to get the shirt
3. You could wear that shirt next year to show "Hey! I am a veteran of this!"

Just wait this one out, if the new event is just a bought promo, then go ahead and complain, I will be on your side. If new uber masks and accessories come out that completely overshadow the old ones, then I see no reason to complain because at that point you would just be wanting to fill up your arsenal with things you will never use.

(with the 75% thing, thats just me blindly typing absurd hyperboles)

We're dancing around an agreeable middle ground... I have a personal bias because I //ermahgrrrrd rlly want a spookat mask// you have a personal bias because you already earned one (actually I believe Phantom mask in your case?), regardless, you have, I want, we both seem to get where the other party is coming from.

Believe me I want to see TR throw us some new goodies //that we have to /EARN/ Nick, you get me? Eury, I'm not out of line?//

In any case, Mara I get your position, I just want a recolored variant of that T-Shirt?

...and at the end of the day, as long as we get to crawl the clockworks for some sort of account bound reward, I'll be happy (though I'll still be jealous of your Spookat mask!)

Marazo, I'm not denying that "I was here" items are nice.

But not every event item needs to be like that. I'm just suggesting that it's fine for seasonal items to return, not that every event item should.

I'd really like to know if you'd actually decide not to participate in the coming event if you knew that *this year's* items would be available next year. Would you?

I'm also not sure how you can have an "uber mask" or how one cosmetic item can "completely overshadow" another. It's a matter of taste. Some people still prefer G1 wings to the animated ones, etc.

I'm fine with the old looks returning as long as there is a distinction between 2011 masks and 2012 masks. Maybe an amendment to the original description saying it was from Dark Harvest 2011, and the new masks being a seperate item with exactly the same cosmetics and a description saying 2012 Dark Harvest. I would still prefer new masks though.

@Aumir, There was already a mewkat pet. Adding a spookat would be confusing and rather lazy. The pets should be rather weak/frail monsters in my opinion, so yes to the silkwing, no to the rest. No daily prestige for tokens. This is a great chance to boost the arcade's popualrity (albeit for a short period of time) and shouldn't be spoiled by missions. Definite no to mass featured auctions. If the old masks were to come back, they would need to be much harder to obtain than they were during the festival.

I just hope we can permanently keep at least some of the masks -- just like last year.

One thing that really disappointed me about Winterfest is that you could not keep any of the helms after the holiday was over. It really took away any desire to collect them. Why waste my time and koins getting items I can only keep for a couple weeks?

Ah

Sorry Oatmonster, it was a Mewkat then. And the anniversary event had both the daily mission and the Arcade event, so if we have already an event, why not the daily mission...?

And the Arcade is dead anyway at its current state, it would be alive only for a few days, sadly as you say. Missions are also now the bread & butter of the game, it is what developers have been upgrading since quite a few months non-stop, and we also have that 2nd Crimson Hammer mission pending... so expect more Mission mode love from OOO's part and nothing for Arcade : ( -wish it changed.

Oh, and the Featured Auction bit... is just due to the pattern that we have seen until now with "exclusive" accessories etc. But yeah, we will see what will happen. Have you seen the Guild update photos yet?

Sort of like TF2's event last year?

For the record...I was not playing Spiral Knights during the last Dark Harvest Festival, so I don't really know what went on except for what I've read off the SK wiki. I do think it would be neat to have a chance to obtain the masks from last year. Whether it says 2012 or not on the mask info doesn't really matter to me.

I'm thinking of this going down similar to how Team Fortress 2's event was last year where you could collect the previous year's masks in Mann Manor, then go fight Monoculus and collect the new Halloween stuff.

I definitely liked the Spiral Knights birthday event this year where there was a prestige mission and hunt through the arcade for cupcake nests. That was a blast. If that format was repeated for this year's event, then this should be great fun.

My two cents anyway.

Keep in mind everyone, that

Keep in mind everyone, that even if a special Prestige Mission for the Dark Harvest Festival were to be released, Knights would only be able to complete them (and acquire the rewards) once per day (which might not even be every day like the Caketastrophe Missions, but in a cycle like with the Danger Missions) and as of such, would be required to go into the Clockworks through the Arcade to continue to collect Tokens.
