Returning player: "new" bombs ?

I am returning for a long pause (several months), and after checking up on the wiki, the only thing that seem to have changed is bombs, namely the RSS which now have a 5* version, as well as having a new effect (didn't have the change to test it in game yet), and new similar bombs with different damage type.

As I understand it, there are now 3 lines, 1 for each damage type, each having two variations.

First question is : how good are those bombs ? Compared to other bombs (Dark Briar Barrage, Dark Retribution and Voltaic Tempest/Ash of Agni), are they worth getting ?

In the case they are good, which variation of each line should I aim for and why ?

Thanks.

Welcome back ^_^

sadly no they are not worth it anymore, their damage is so pitiful, however people have found ways to use them effectively like placing them so there explosions explode in a pattern. Oh and the mechanic like the old one except they barely go out and lodge to the ground then they explode

They suck, but three of them are kind of worth it if you squint at them a little.

If you don't have access to OCH, Salt Bombs are okay shadow-damage bombs that inflict shock. Dark Matter has something like 20 more damage but doesn't do shock.

Stun isn't bugged anymore, which means Sun Shards are kind of cool. They're really my preferred weapon against devilites, but don't prioritize it over Dark Briar Barrage. Splinter Bomb has something like 20 more damage but doesn't do stun.

Deadly Crystal Bomb are okayish since they're the only elemental DPS bomb, but they're plain old outclassed by Electron Vortex in a group or Nitronome if you're solo.

They're slow, the range for each shard is 1 pixel, they're kind of bugged so that enemies often take no damage at all, and shards will disappear for no reason. Compared to the old 4* bombs, the new 5* ones do less damage, have less range, detonate slower, have broken behaviours that work against you rather than for you and cost more.

We have tried to find redeeming qualities but they are very subtle.

In terms of raw power, spamming a nitro will end up dealing more damage.... if you dont mind your teammates.

Thanks for the answers,

Thanks for the answers, especially Zeddy.

Since I already have all the bombs you mentionned (except Nitronome. This one is a BIG NO, I don't play solo with bombs), I guess there is not much point bothering.

Well, actually I'll probably upgrade the RSS, since I already have it heated and test it out, and take the elemental one to cover elemental damage, since Electron Vortex is not always good and status effect from mist bomb don't stack.

And no shadow bomb since you said Dark Retribution is better. Unless I fall in love with those ones, but I doubt it.

welcome back

Rarely do I care when a player returns to the forums, but this time it's nice to see you again. Here are some more threads to ponder:

Good to see you again,

Good to see you again, Fradow. I was wondering the same when I got back, and upgraded my RSS to 5*. Waste of money imo, hardly ever use it anymore. As a bomber, I've more or less fully converted to pure support and am leaving dps bombing to the side for a large part, as they just don't seem to keep up much anymore. Really enlightened me to just how much I relied on RSS as a dps tool.

Not to say that you should ditch dps bombing, but if you wanna maintain dps, gotta just focus on the other old bombs; DBB, Nitro, vortexes etc...shards are just pretty awful for damage on a useful scale~

Thanks,

My bad, I didn't search. Well, I wanted to know how they perform currently compared to other bombs, but I don't see a clear answer, except Zeddy who is convincing.

I got myself one earlier and tested it in training room, it seems intriguing. I'll do a test run later with that.

Edit : replied before seeing your message Darkbrady, thanks for the feedback. I didn't use RSS much before, as I am not primarily a bomber. I guess I will follow your advice after testing it to see for myself, I love Dark Briar Barrage (woof woof bomb <3), as well as the VT + AoA combo. I'll have to make do with Dark Retribution for shadow then.

@Fradow

It's worth noting that a Deadly Crystal Bomb isn't going to do substantially more damage on undead than Dark Briar Barrage is, just as a they won't be killing constructs much faster than Dark Retribution (if at all). However, the subtle knockback and attack interruption can be used.

Try out your new 5* Sun Shards on appropriate targets (preferably devilites). You should only consider getting crystal bomb if you end up liking the sun shards. Same deal with salt bombs, really. DBB and DR are probably better options for gremlins and slimes.

Thanks for the additional comment Zeddy. I already decided I won't be pursuing any other Shard bomb, as I was heavily disappointed by the 5* sun shards.

as I was heavily disappointed by the 5* sun shards.

You're tellin' me. I wanted to 5* my ISB for pvp but after seeing what SSS was like I just don't care to. My career as a dps bomber effectively ended when they removed RSS....I highly overused it, I'm aware...

They aren't BAD, just a

They aren't BAD, just a little weak and/or slow.

The deadly shard bomb/sun shards line is generally totally outclassed by Dark Briar Barrage, but the others are fairly good considering how rare DPS-type elemental and shadow bombs are.
