When i asked a bunch or people running KoA with me if I should take the blitz or the plague needle, a few of them recommended the plague.
So when I checked the wiki, I noticed that the damage for the plague is horribly low compared to the blitz.
Personally i'm more or a support guy and the plague needle's poison effect is quite tempting to me, as poison causes the unfortunate victim ( Vanaduck in dis case) to take more damage.
So, should i get the plague needle or get the blitz and stuff my shiny new toxic needle into a cupboard
Should I get the plague needle?
Stuff the shiny new toxic needle into a cupboard and take the Blitz.
My detailed (with maths) answer here : http://forums.spiralknights.com/en/node/35702 last post. You also have different point of views.
This post is a little old, can anyone confirm if the numbers are still accurate (especially on Vana) or should I re-do the calculations ?
Well, first of all, technical difficulties.
If you don't PvP much or don't like it I'd strongly advise against Plague needle because you can get the recipes only from PvPing, trust me, I'm doing it for Electron Vortex and I regret doing every single PvP match I've played so far.
But if you're ok with PvPing a lot then the problem with plague lies somewhere else, A.K.A. its usefulness isn't really as much as it looks.
Sure, against Vana having a Plague needle along with blitzers is going to be helpful considering that the big guy packs quite the punch and poisoning him will cripple his damage, but honestly there are better ways to poison him than going for a Plague Needle (I.E. Venom Veiler) while still giving you the chance of fully hitting his guts with a Blitz, that said the poison effect on the plague doesn't really help anywhere else.
Trojans? a blitz charge will one-shot them even with a full party so poisoning becomes useless.
Single targets? Again blitz will make a quick-work out of them.
Big packs of mobs? Again, Venom Veiler outclasses Plague and gives you plently of time to switch to something with better DPS than it, plus you shouldn't really use anything from the autogun line against big packs of mobs.
To be clear, I only applied this to FSC because that seems to be what you want to do with Plague, but it pretty much could be the same for every other place.
Then again, Plague is green, unique, and probably more satisfying to have than a cheap Blitz that everybody has, so it's worth getting.
Swordie here, so venom veiler is out of the question

But you use guns, so you're not a pure sworder...
If you like the colour green, get the plague needle.
If you like the colour yellow, get the blitz needle.
If you like another colour, calculate the RGB values of it and turn these into a combination of yellow and green in order to compare them.
Or get both and switch between the two...problem solved.
Or man up and get VV, as haze bombs can fit nicely into sword loadouts, esp if you have UVs; even ctr:med is more than adequate.

Good lord I was looking for that thread high and low a few weeks ago for another similar post, thanks for rolling it out again.

^^ The before and after numbers for Vana + Mask concerning the gun buff.

Someone should rename this thread the end all be all thread about piercing guns and keep it permabumped!

don´t get it.
poison deals about 3.5% more dmg.
blitz deals more dmg, even in groups. i don´t have the exact data, one plague in a party of 4 blitz user might cause more dmg than 4 blitz´ on duke but srsly: don´t waste ce on plague
poison deals about 3.5% more dmg.
Lol?
@Trapzter before pulling number out of thin air, you may want to check just a little available data. Common knowledge is about 10%.
The data I collected (link in comment #2 and #8) demonstrates, on Vanaduke, a 17% increase for Blitz ((168-143)/143) and a 17% increase for Plague too ((100-85)/85).
To finish with percentages, there is a 5% increase of damage if you take 1 Plague and 3 Blitz ("one plague in a party of 4 blitz" is .... not possible), assuming there is always poison (not true of course). Otherwise it's about the same for 3 Needle users and Blitz win by a large margin under that.
Plague takes a lot of tokens to get, deals less overall damage than Blitz, and its poison doesn't generally have a massive effect unless you're with several other blitzers in a Vanaduke party. That doesn't make it a bad weapon, though; its output just doesn't match up to the Blitz Needle, but then, nothing does, and the damage is still enough to OHKO trojans in a 1 or 2-man party. The main issue is playing enough PvP games to get 300 tokens, which is a pain in the metaphorical posterior. In addition, one of the Blitz recipes comes free as a mission reward (the 4* Strike Needle), making it even cheaper to get.
tl;dr: Get Blitz, it's cheaper. Save your PvP tokens for something else, like an Electron Vortex.
If you can consistently get a competent party with 3 other Blitzers, get Plague. Otherwise, just go with Blitz or maybe Venom Veiler.
