@Sr-Gravity- Nah it's all cool, and yeah Emancipator is trip-hop. I think I've heard a couple Massive Attack songs awhile back, but I'll have to look them up again soon.
What music do you listen to?(Discussion)
I remember when this started out with just 2 people posts, and went dead for a little bit. Then I made a post and it just took of from there. *sniff* Anyways, how did you know I like sing-a-longs?You must have read my mind. But do cheese have brains to read of from? I'll have to look into that. And with that awesome live concert from AC/DC, I wrote "go to a concert to see a band live" onto my bucket list.
I also found this great song this morning from a music channel on my tv. First time my tv has given me music to listen too lol.
Haha, I guess you're right! Thanks for pushing this thread along, you block of cheese you!
As for the sing-a-long, that was the best version I could find, so glad you enjoyed it!
And yes, concerts are the best. Unfortunately I'll never be able to see MyChem live now like I always wanted....But there's other bands to see.
And great song too! I'd heard a couple songs from Yellowcard before, but never really got into them. I loved that song though!
Random [stuff].
Macklemore: Thrift shop.
Passion pit: Took a walk.
Modest Mouse: Jesus Christ was an only child/Trailer trash.
Stephen Walking: Motions.
Nico Vega: Beast.
Johnny Cash: Hurt.
Bonobo: Terrapin.
Whole lotta more, but my brain hurts and I'm tired.
Ah another Johnny Cash with "Hurt" fan! Hah, nice.
(Keep it clean though.)
"Oh, forgot to ask you, when you said the headphones depended on the music type, what would you say for rock? Or just all around?" -Immortous
Well, the ones I bought, the Sennheiser Momentums, are some pretty good all-rounders. They don't really excel at any particular area, but they don't fail in any area either; they're just... Good.
Personally, I find it hard to say anything negative about them, comfort is good, they fit well (thanks for tiny ears! Apparently, people had some trouble with comfort because their ears were too big), they look classy and not like the usual flashy-colour show that many headsets put on. They're closed, so I can use them on the bus or whatever without disturbing others with my loud hardcore black death meta- I mean... Classical symphonies. However, my wallet cried the night I ordered them...
There are some surprisingly good-sounding sealed cans here and there that are super cheap, but still considered to be 'up there' with the rather expensive ones. So they're definitively worth a look.
You can also find open-pad headphones at reasonable prices. They will leak sound if you turn it up too loud (which might not be ideal for loud-ish rock music I guess). The Koss Portapros were mentioned earlier in this thread, though they sound great, they seem quite fragile.
Another good all-rounder headset is the The Audio Technica M50's. Seems like they've been widely recommended among headset folks.
Now, back to the original question;
I don't think I can suggest a headset specifically for rock. As I mentioned with the AKG K518LE, they have good bass that The Glitch Mob and the likes would probably sound very good with. If you were to listen to classical, you probably wouldn't be as caught up with how the bass is, but probably more high-mids or something, and you'd focus on clarity and such.
I won't tell you exactly what headset to get, but when I was trying to figure out what cans to get, I used that innerfidelity site a lot. There's also head-fi.org. I find head-fi a bit messy and I like having an all-knowing god to keep to, instead of all these ants that makes reviews on head-fi (I jest, I jest). A quick search for "headset for rock" on head-fi gave me this thread, which may or may not point you in the right direction.
Alright thanks! I'll look into those Innerfidelity and Head-fi threads.
I like Johnny Cash's "Hurt" but NIN did it so much better.
And yes, keep it clean and don't knock it especially when I'm listening to it. I might seriously hurt myself while trying to figure out how to cut my head off with a chainsaw.
Indie rock FTW! And I love Sonic soundtracks!
Sonic soundtracks?
Uh... No thanks. *Shudder*
Oh and, I think the Sonic band is called Crush 40, no?
"I like Johnny Cash's "Hurt" but NIN did it so much better." -Iamnoone
NIN and Cash sang the song through different lenses, ya know? You get a different feel from NIN's version than Johnny Cash's. They're both good in their own way, but I don't know, there's just something about Cash's version that gets me. If you read the back story of the song you'll know what I'm talking about. Very poignant.
~
@Feral-Cz- Indie rock? Sure! Sonic soundtracks?....Well, to each their own, eh? =P
~
@Anyone- "Gotten" by Slash ft. Adam Levine
No, I'm not really a fan of Maroon 5, but I love Slash's song here. Love Slash's playing in it too.
Yes, I know exactly what you're talking about. Look at where the two artists where in their lives when they did the song and you'll see the difference. NIN living the good life, they are young and still have things going for them. Johnny Cash was old and though he didn't do hard time in jail as most think, he was over the high of his career and long past the down slope. He had been through divorce etc. He know his end was near. He put more heart and soul into it. NIN also had the edginess of youth who go for the shock and awe value.
/agree Iamnoone
Yes! Immortous agrees with Iamnoone!
Also, when I said "If you read the backstory", I meant Johnny Cash's backstory with the song. To my knowledge, his wife had died recently, and Cash ended up passing away himself shortly after filming the video for "Hurt".
But again, I agree with your above post there.
Yes, that's the etc. The part I left out. I think she died from breast or ovarian cancer, and as a women's cancers they are, I seem to recall something with his daughter. He also had drug and alcohol problems throughout his life which cost him the people closest to him, the ones he loved the most.
Yes, he did die shortly after filming the video to the song he sought out from NIN as his last life's works. I believe he traded songs with them to get the deal done. Could he have known the end was near and possibly found a song that spoke what his heart felt? Could NIN have touched Johnny Cash?
I was going to say this in my last post than deleted it. I think I can word it better now.
I think Johnny Cash put more heart and soul into it. You can feel the pain. When I tried to kill myself, it was NIN. They have the dark, eerie mental state of mind of the cut.
I do enjoy a lot of Crush 40's music. It fits with the style of the sonic games.I have some of them on my psp. Also, there are other artist that contributed to the soundtrack of the sonic games.Bowling for soup was the band that did the song "Endless possibility" in Sonic Unleashed(and did the theme song for Phineas and ferb) In Sonic and the Black Knight, the final boss music is Face to faith(With Me) by the band All Ends. That song also features Johnny Gioeli, which is the vocalist for Crush 40.How do I know this? Prior knowledge and wikipedia. Ok, half of it was wikipiedia, but you get the point.
All i listen to is DUB STEP(especially the ones by Skrillex) ~~~~~
Seeing a lot of talk about Johnny Cash here. The only song I remember by him is... Uh... The one that uhhh... Damn. I can't remember the name of it. I know I used to have it and listen to it a lot. Think it was in the 28 days (or weeks) later movie. Apocalyptic song... About the four horsemen of the apocalypse or something?
Looks like I'll have to find me some Johnny Cash to listen to.
Anyone got any albums they'd recommend?
I keep thinking of that weird pokemon fish thingy. You know, the one with the weird mustache? It was like cashothingermajig...
There are rumors going around that MCR is reforming with a new name because the label has rights to the "My Chemical Romance" name.
/squeals Art, you made my day. I don't care what you call them...
YAY!!!
You better not be lying.
I'm sort of neutral to MCR, but in my opinion Gerard's vocals, didn't fit this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hr2Bc5qMhE4 it was ok, but it could've been better with someone else doing the vocals, either way it's still a good deadmau5 song.
It's like your reading my mind and typing it out...O_o
~
@Hero- Yep...I only vaguely remember seeing the name Crush 40 somewhere.
~
@Orkwrath- Check out the artist Flux Pavillion. The Glitch Mob is an amazing artist as well.
~
@Weedy- Ah....can't say I remember any of the album names.....This is so unlike me....
~
Post#121 -Artistbma
What??? OHHMERERGUUUURSHHH that would be amazing! But there's always rumors floating around so....forgive me if I'm a bit skeptic. =O
~
Post#124 -Gzilla
Nah that song did Gee no justice. I don't think DeadMau5 should have done that song with him either. If you want to hear his voice at its best.....well, just listen to all 4 1/2 MCR albums. (Not so much their debut album though.)
I like SK soundtracks.
/shields from flame wars
No need to raise your shield. We are all understanding and respect other peoples musical choices in this here thread.I do like some of the music in sk.It fits the mood for the game.It helps build suspense at the right times.
@Fleet/Hero- Yes that's one of the three rules here lol.
1. Respect everyone's music tastes.
2. No flame-wars.
3. Keep it clean.
Anyhow, I do enjoy myself some SK soundtracks every now and then. My personal favorites are "Somber", the Chill/Ice theme, and the Spiral Fortress themes.
To be honest, I don't really like the SK soundtracks. That kind of music just doesn't appeal to me, I guess.
"I like SK soundtracks." -Fleet-Miss-Gun
I never really noticed the music before I reached Snarbolax for the first time. That speedy organ...
... Has to be some of the best boss music I've heard. I remember I did Snarby over again, just to hear the music.
@Artist- Yeah, game-music usually doesn't appeal to me either, but there's something about the three ST's I mentioned. They remind me of when I first joined SK in early '11. Yall remember that good time, no? The basil runs, first stepping into this world, etc. It was so much...nicer back then. Those three ST's remind me of some of my favorite depths as well.
~
@Weedy- Yep, I'd do levels over again for the same reason sometimes.
~
EDIT: I also love the "Sanctuary" theme!
I've been varying my musical horizons... lately it's Voltaire (cannibal buffet's kinda catchy but lots of pun) David Bowie, I annoyed someone once by playing Wannabe by Spice Girls, oh oh and anything that's Renard Queenston or any of his labels but I really liked "what you do" by The Queenstons
- Touhou themes (remixes too)
- vocaloid
- Nightcore (genre)
Different music for different posters am I right?
@Porcrhind- Ah, the name Bonobo was slightly familiar, but no I didn't know them until now. One of the others might though!
~
@Vbunny- Did you say....Voltaire?? Someone get Lugee back in here! (Read whole thread to know why.) =P
~
@Blade-Of-Grass- Well, the music does not have to be different for every single poster. You just post whatever music you like, and then discuss it along with other stuff with the rest of the "forumites".
Touhou themes--I first came to love touhou music because of well Touhou (The "bullet-Hell" shooting games)! I enjoy the stage themes also.
Vocaloid--Back in 2010 is when I got my glimps of the vocaloid Hatsune Miku. I've also noticed my friends talking about Miku. In fact albums have been out on the itunes store!
Nightcore--What can I say I like remixes. Nightcore also has some originals (I think).
@Blade-Of-Grass- Alright, I'll make sure to look those up soon. Right now I have a couple papers to write...O_O
~
Where'd everyone go?? Helloooooooo.......
"Alright, I'll make sure to look those up soon." -Immortous
I feel sorry for you already.
I actually like Video game music because to me it's better than today's modern music.
Stuff from like Super Mario, TF2, and of course SK. Not to mention loads of Gangnam Style >:3
@Xtweeterx ah gotta have that gangnam style. =3 Some people don't like psy, but I'm cool with that.I can't force them to like music they don't like. And I also like the music in video games as well.Without music, video games wouldn't be the same. From the original mario bros, to the theme song to Borderlands 2. The tools that the composers use have changed, but the same over all idea is there: to make music that ppl will like to listen to through out the game.
Anybody heard the new single from Daft Punk? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5NV6Rdv1a3I
I have now ;) It sounds good. Definitely a song you can dance to. While I haven't listened to a lot of their music, each one I have listened to, love them.
@Blade- ....Well....what can I say? Anime isn't really my thing. To each his own though! =P
~
@Sr- What did I just watch....? O_O (EDIT: It wasn't music, just a random vid, so I'm a bit confused here.)
~
@Tweet- I might have to agree with some game music being better than "today's music", if by "today's music" you meant pop.
~
@Hero- Psy isn't awful or anything, just overplayed. =P
~
@Gzilla- Not until now! But I agree with Hero, definitely a dance-song. I was getting into it just while sitting here lol.
~
@Anyone- Check out this extremely talented guy here! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BIm0kOa65Do
Not just those I listed but I didn't want to list all of them (it'd take up quite a few pages). I recently got into Kubbi
-Drum and Bass
-Rock
-Jazz
-Classical
-Bossanova
-SRW Music
-Eurobeat (lol initial D)
That guy has some serious talent. He played Kings and Queens by 30 seconds to mars(which is an awesome band) and on top of that, on the side on a mountain.Props to him.
I listened to the first track on the page(The See-Through Zone) It was like a mix of rock and 8-bit music from the golden age of gaming.Liked that as well =D
Good to see that we have a wider range of music besides rock lol. I think people were afraid that if they didn't show us rock, that we would hate them.Which is totally l not true. Just tell us what you like, and we'll tell you what we think of it =)
Recently I've been listening to Alt-j. I dunno, I kind of really like them. A lot of people don't.
And I'm going way out on a limb here...
Does listening to the morning concert the birds give us in the spring count as music? If not, all well. I've been not listening to cd's or the radio in the early morning and listening to the birdies sing. :P
A perfect morning; coffee, birds singing and watching the sun rise.
@Sir-Wuddle- Nope, no judging here! That's a nice variety of music there. Since you said "Drum and Bass", check out my link from my previous post!
~
@Hero- Gotta love me some 30stm. After all, they created this song!
~
"Good to see that we have a wider range of music besides rock lol. I think people were afraid that if they didn't show us rock, that we would hate them.Which is totally l not true. Just tell us what you like, and we'll tell you what we think of it =)" -Hero-Of-Cheese
Exactly! I was afraid that people were thinking that as well! This is a global discussion, for any and all music!
~
@Iam- Alt-j? Could you explain that to me? Is it a genre? An artist? But yes, I agree with the birds part! I never listen to music during those early hours. That perfect morning. (I just don't appreciate the birds waking me up when I'm trying to sleep. =P)
implying kanye isn't one of the most innovative and influential artists of the last decade, ok. also sorry immortous, bae, will never happen again.
and nah, i never liked green day or any pop punk band. and rise against is leans too much towards metal and hardcore for me to enjoy them.
emancipator is trip hop right? you might want to listen to massive attack if you haven't already, they're like the quintessential trip hop group.
