You should enter, as the judging will be done as objectively as possible. We won't say 'I liek dis, 100/100 for you', we'll ask ourselves 'Is this an original costume? How well do the colours of each piece co-ordinate? How well does the costume fit together as a whole?' when deciding the scores. So just because we don't like it doesn't mean that it can't score well.

Due to me being too lazy to look for someone to be the second judge I'll be accepting bribes from people that are interested in the position. I'm only half joking. If you're seriously interested there are a couple of things that need to happen first:

You must be able to be online for the duration of both in-game judging sessions
You can't enter the competition and be a judge

Although I would probably fall into the "upper class" section of the Spiral Knights community, I generally strongly dislike spending a lot on costumes. You won't see any Rose Regelia sets, Prismatic/Divine/Shadow/Volcanic accessories (save for one) and I don't use Auras either. I don't like the cost of my costumes going anything over 50k, and those DWings and XVVs were an exception because I was around when the promo was out and got them cheap.

After a lot of contemplating and turning things on each side, I've decided to join in on the fun, not for the prizes, but more so to show off my vanity. I'm up against some serious competition, anyway, it would be foolish to expect to win with my distorted perception of beauty. I don't consider myself a good looking knight, nor do I want to be one. I wear what I like, whether it conforms or not by the other knights' notions of good looking.

I would like to take the Saturday, 6th of April, 7:42 slot. There's a 50% chance I'll miss it, but as I see, there aren't many people fighting for the slots, so I don't feel bad taking it. In case I miss it, and to present a more in-depth thought on my costumes, which I don't know if I could tell the judges there, I'm also leaving screenshots with descriptions here.
Oh, and on the concern of me not owning the outfits, if I don't make it to the judging session, I doubt you can preview things with the "Character Options" button still visible. c:

First, I'd like to begin with a submission to the Ugly Category, because this is what most people would classify this costume as.

1. Long live simplicity and contrasts
[Snarbolax set + Hallow Toupee, Cyan Personal Color]
I like wearing this outfit when I want to feel pro-ish. It's the simplest and most basic thing ever, but I love it. The splash of cyan on the personal color parts makes it all the better and draws the eye.
Why is this in Ugly? Because it is where it fits. Even if I think it's pretty.

But for my real, serious outfits submitted to the Open Category, I present...

1. Hairy, winged non-comformism
[Elemental Cloak + Military Valkyrie Wings, with Skolver Cap + Surge Toupee + Cool Scarf, Cyan Personal Color]
Perhaps my most adventurous outfit, that I prize and love the most. CompleyetelyIcan'tspell unplanned, I discovered it while equipping random stuff to look ugly. It simply worked with the Cyan, every color lining up surprisingly well: white/cream extremities, dark in the middle with cyan stripes, and a grey line to segregate the top from the bottom. I'd change nothing about it, while I've contemplated Divine Wings, I've come to the conclusion that the grey stripe in the middle is essential and I'd rather not mess with it. The colors couldn't fit better to the "hairy scholar" look which the Skolver Cap, moreso my dark haired one, composes with the pyjama Elemental Cloak. [That's a pyjama, really, I had one which looked strikingly alike when I was young.] Even though it's a tiny, adorable and somewhat oddly, differently pretty look, because of my Extra Short height, it simply reeks of knowledge, skill and power. If a midget roundhouse kicked you in the knee during LD, with an Argent Peacemaker, that's what the midget would look like. Or maybe it's just me. I'm sure most will disagree with me and call it a poorly assembled costume but I think this unexpectedly born outfit is the epitome of fashion, elegance, cuteness and costume design. I love it to bits. Because it's beautifully different. <69

2. Hairy, winged conformism
[Dragon Scale Mail + Toasty Valkyrie Wings + Toasty Wolver Tail, with Dusker Cap + Military Scarf + Heavy Toupee]
My first serious outfit, which would have not been possible without the help of some sexy people. <69 I made it long ago back when I had not yet realized that you can disobey the unwritten rules and still look pretty in Spiral Knights, and back when the only message and look I wanted to convery was "cute" and "unique", which I may have fulfilled, more or less. Perhaps the only adventurous element among the tidy lining of appropriately colored parts, is the Military Scarf, which pins down the red-cyan contrast achieved through the personal color. An old symbol of my personal fashion inclined mind in Spiral Knights, I hold it dear and still wear it often. <69

3. Shockingly Scaly
[Volcanic Plate Mail + Volcanic Wings + Volcanic Bomb Bandolier, with Salamander Mask, Cyan Personal Color]
Perhaps one of my only pure, naked, thoughtless vanity costumes, which has the sole purpose of existing and looking good. I gave in to my love for all things reptile and went ahead making a costume including something Chroma. Very conformist outfit, it sticks to tame color combinations with minor contrast achieved only through the Personal Color. Simple, but effective! It also looks quite cool with shock weapons.

As a closing note, I'd like to accentuate how subjective fashion is, and while there may be a shifty base for what is considered good-looking, the build up from that base is entirely different from person to person. Which means that this contest isn't relative in any way to how good-looking your knight is, if you win, you're pretty in the judges' eyes, but if you lose, you're still pretty in your own eyes. An early "everybody wins" speech, I suppose. No matter the results, you're all sexy in your own way. <69

The reason I've made such a theory out of this is because I don't think vanity is simply about looking good, not the vanity I cater to. I think my vanity is about looking good, while also letting your look speak for you, and to you. Perhaps then, it's not exactly vanity, though I'd like to classify it as such. Thoughtful vanity.
