Transparency rules. It's actually a practice at some companies to force their devs to spend at least an hour on some public outlet (like their forums or an IRC channel, or hell even in game) to interact with the people and tell them a bit of what they're doing. Secrets are fun sometimes, but speculation can lead to disappointment. I'd rather know "well we've got an auction house more or less modeled already, but the system's been biting me in the ass all week." from some dev than "Oh ho ho ho, wait till you see what we've got next week! Maybe next week..."
New something something in haven coming soon.

I must consult with the Grand Council of Really Old Wizards to determine a suitable course of action.

That there is a host of slow tinkering going on in the tech end surprises me not one bit.
In terms of balance issues, I mainly mean things like adding a piercing-dealing gremlin here, a shadow boss monster there, or what-have-you, to even out the big equipment gaps in value. Which are things I'm pretty sure we'd all notice.
But, hey, if that stuff does end up getting managed with small changes rather than the larger ones I imagine? All to the good. So long as it's something the Devs have on their list, and the list keeps getting work, that's shiny.
I'd sure like to *see* that list, of course; while the coming AH will bolster my faith in "things are being addressed" greatly (including the mentioned drunken cat dance), the trust-o-meter could clock in higher yet.
I love me some transparency, I guess.
