It all happened so fast. One moment, you're another Knight. Sitting around. Having fun with friends. Enjoying yourself amidst the normal hustle and bustle of Floor #2 on the Skylark. The next moment, you're fighting for your life as everything you thought you knew comes crashing down.
Let me explain myself.
My name is Sintag. I'm an Azure Guardian. One of the few privileged individuals lucky enough to serve with the best of the best. Valiance, Leviathan Blade, Azure Guardian Armor, Aegis...Truly, no gear was better than this. Myself and a few friends were just having a normal day. We were busy chatting about our next destination, Cradle. It seemed to be a normal planet. Wildlife was hostile, but everything was in this universe. If the wildlife was an insurgency, we were the police. Most of our contracts focused primarily on making sure other worlds were safe or eliminating hostile threats. Everything was fine until we felt a rumbling. I had assumed we'd entered an asteroid field - This has happened before. Then, someone came over the PA system and notified us of the news.
The Skylark was crashing, we were all to go to the Escape Pods. We moved quickly. Parts of the ship began falling in, inspiring panic into an otherwise calm place. I saw an armed blast bomb roll into the Blast Bomb storage, and in shielding myself and two other people, my Aegis was blasted into shards. Throwing the now-useless bracer off my right hand, I saw cables holding back something from flattening us. I climbed up and sliced them, but dropped my Blade and saw it shattered underneath the door. This left my Valiance. I used it's bayonet to slash through a jammed escape pod, but mistook the strength of the metal and broke the barrel, effectively rendering the gun useless. A very fast piece of debris, possibly thrown around from the tilting, slammed into me, shattering my armor and helmet, leaving me with my old Proto Armor (I kept it as a reminder I was not invincible.) Putting it on and readjusting the seals (It had been years since I last wore these), I didn't feel very protected. Suddenly, the back door, near the escape pods, opened. Reality ensued.
I was sucked out due to the high pressure and flung fast from the Skylark. I wasn't exactly trained for this, but as I freefell, I noticed an empty escape pod. I sped my fall towards it, and got inside. I prayed for life I wasn't going anywhere dangerous. I was unarmed, in poor armor, and in bad shape.
The pod hits the ground. It bounces, rolling, and comes to a complete stop. The only thing permeating the stagnant, mechanical air?
Silence.
I awoke in the pod. It hurt to move. I saw, on the right hand side, that the Punch Gun was OK. It's slug generator had been broken in the fall, but that was expected. I saw a second shell. I shot one hinge, reloaded it, and shot the second one. Clicking empty, I discarded the Punch Gun and kicked the door out, then climbed out to overwhelming brightness.
I saw that a helmet had been left there, and I swapped it out for my old, too-tight helmet. It's com unit was operable, so I sent out a distress signal. Much to my relief, I heard a familiar voice. Rhendon got in contact.
"This is Rhendon. Who's on the other line?"
"Rhendon. This is Sintag on the other end. My weapons are destroyed. I'm requesting a Proto Drop near my location. I'm near my pod. Transmitting it's coordinates now."
"Roger, Sintag. A Proto Drop is headed your way. Be on the lookou-" There was a small explosion. "DARN IT! Not again! This is the...Look, your Proto Bomb exploded in loading. The rest of it survived. It should touch down in three, two, one..."
A small pod blasted near me. It opened, revealing a blast crater in it, a slightly scorched Proto Shield, a Proto Sword, and a Proto Gun. Sheathing the sword, holstering the gun, and bracing the shield onto the armor, I was ready for battle once again. I set out, walking with my sword in my right hand, my shield held tightly in my left wrist. This equipment would do, but clearly I could use better.
"Rhendon, the equipment arrived."
"Good. Good. I'm detecting biomasses moving your way. You've got incoming enemies, 2 o'clock."
"Rhendon, your scanner must be going nuts. I don't see anything."
"That's a good first sign of identifying what's headed at you. Raise your weapon. Those will be at your location VERY soon." He warned.
Immediately afterwards, I saw a lizard-like thing approach me. I withdrew my blade, readied myself, and tensed.
Time to wake up, Sin.
