I'm not sure how practical it is, but it would be nice to have the option to get the outbid notice in either chat or mail. I'd personally prefer having it in chat, but others may be in more talkative guilds, or listen to /1 and /2 and thus be likely to miss the chat message.
I don't want to add another preference, let's just do it right in a way that works for everyone.
Maybe you get the mail, but it says "the crowns were returned directly because you were online" in the body.
We already get the notice "have received mail" in chat. Could that notice be amended to, say: "You have received mail from the auction house (outbid notice)!" Equally, the mail notice could just be "Look in your pocket; your money came home already!"
Something like this may be best.
If there wasn't list fee AH would be like the CE/CR market, where people climb each other prices, retreat and reprice it again in a frenzy. List fee pushes players to think before deciding a price and not sit there all day re-pricing every moment just to be on top of the "price queue".
Just a note about a bug I just caught:
Cancelled auctions aren't going away. They stay on your lists forever.
The fix will go out sometime next week.
Like how /o have bright green text ^^ that definitely caught my attention, maybe you can use colours like hot pink or just use the /o color.
The main issue I have with the mail is that my mailbox piles up with auction house mail, so the "it's already there!" message isn't really all that different. Maybe that's different for some people though.. I personally think that it would be best to just have the crowns refunded instantly, but then you don't know if you're outbid when you're offline, and that's a whole new problem.
So as one said, the preference route would probably be the best. Or, if it's possible, have a (bright) chat message pop up when you're online, and a mail sent when you're offline. That also is a little more in depth and would require more cases, so that's not as easy, but I still think is the best in the long haul :).

tl;dr: The current system is definitely better than just a chat message (because then we have no idea what happened while offline), but in the end preference or login-status based system would be best.
This isn't completely related to the AH but can we get a button to delete all read mail? The new accept+delete button is great but I'm finding it tedious to clear my box of all the older auction house mail.

Sorting
I think having a secondary sorting parameter would very useful to navigate the offers.
Materials
I would like to be able to offer a package of materials (and possibly assign a name). Calibur package: 5 light shards, 2 bronze bolts, 2 swordstones.
Increments
Why aren't we able to set a minimum increment for our auctions?
Of course if such a thing is going to be implemented it will affect how bid prices should be sorted, because it will be pointless to sort a lower bid with a high increment before a slightly higher bid the next increment of which will turn it into the best offer. Probably the system should display the requested bid.
Getting a mail per auction bid/win/sale is just too much.
I mean we can read what we won/sold/were outbid in the AH anyway.
Just completely drop the mail part in favor of an informative status message, and give your auctions/bids in the AH with a status change from last check a different color. (light/sky blue perhaps~; actually red would fit better for outbids; perhaps a deep orange for all to keep it simple)
Just wondering how feasible you think a secondary sorting option would be. (by clicking on the dropdown headers for instance). I guess I haven't really though of what kind of algorithm you would use to do this, however.. It would have to be a sort that maintained the order of the list upon tie-breakers.. I guess you could specifically design a heap-sort to do this? Or maybe just an insertion sort, even though that would take more time.
I don't really know myself, but if you have any comment on the feasability of it from a dev standpoint that would be great :). (After thinking about it, I almost want to try to make an algorithm myself that could do a secondary sort. If there was some way of making everything integer values of all the same length (maybe have them all be 8 digit integers) then maybe you could use a radix sort or something. That would be super cool :).
My Auctions tab takes like 10-20 seconds to load when it gets filled up too much. Restarting client helps a little bit but it still takes ~5s to load then eventually slows down to 10-20 seconds again. When this happens checking my mail also takes forever to access.
Hopefully the next bugfix will fix the overfilled auctions problem.
Some items are repeated on different pages of the same list.
Might that just be because the same person posted the same items, but the criteria are slightly different? For instance, if you sort by stars, it only sorts by stars and takes nothing else into account (probably just randomly pulls them from a database) and what appear to be the same item are actually different items with all the same information (because the person who posted them posted them with the same criteria) ending up on different pages because of the inherent randomness of how they are stored in the database.
No, it's really the same item. I can't reproduce the bug now, but it was an item with a particular UV. When I filtered the list by name (plate) it only appeared once, but when I showed the complete helms list it appeared twice.
Then it sounds like there might be a bug with the sorting algorithm. I wish I knew what kind of sort they were using so I could speculate more :).

It'd be awesome if we had sell price variation charts for items at AH.

I actually saw this bug on a smaller list and bought the "duplicate item" When I bought the item it was sold out in both pages so it is actually being listed more than once rather than items being hidden in certain views.
